Posted 11 years agoHey. Did you know? Different cultures have different responses to sneezing!
Most countries simply respond to them with variations of "may god smile favorably upon you!" Or "May you be in good health!" But some have responses that are a bit more interesting.
In Japan, and Cantonese speaking Chinese cultures, they think that sneezing is a sign that someone is talking about you behind your back. But only in Japan is it considered rude to sneeze. In fact, you're supposed to apologize if you sneeze over there, apparently.
In Vietnamese, they say "Rice and Salt" to children when they sneeze. Adorable.
In the Netherlands, they believe that if you sneeze three times in a row, it’s a sign that the weather will be nice tomorrow.
In France, they have a specific saying for sneezing. If you sneeze once, their response is “to your loves~” If you sneeze a second time, they then say “to your dreams~” And if you sneeze a third time, then they will say “and may they last forever.”
French is such a romantic language. -Dreamy sigh.-
How do you guys respond when someone sneezes?
