Obligatory "It's been a while since my last journal" line here.
A lot has happened last year and recently, almost having lived a full year in a new city now and unfortunately having old health issues return to pester me.
But as they say: new year, new chances.

Though Tephra's model and setting had a lot of progress, I've had more plans in mind. But I keep getting stuck on some technical issues. That's why it's been going quite slow and is pretty much put on hiatus. I hope to get back into it and finish it completely. At least I learned alot from it so far.
My 3D printer has been gathering dust for a while now. So I wanted to make a new 3D toy to print; A "functional" Emperor, from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. I've already made alot of progress with the big parts, but learning how to make a fictional handgun work requires a bit more know-how than I first considered. Atleast it's funny to see how impractical the design is.

My eternal struggle is balance between drawing and 3D; when I work on one, I tend to keep the other on hold, as you may have noticed. After the recent drawing, I feel like it’s been a while since I last drew stuff. So I’d like to pick that up again in 2023, before I start any new 3D projects.

Absence

You may have noticed I vanished for the past month(s).
Struggling with a lack of help from the hospital and constant pain are taking a toll. I had my 2nd surgery a few days ago, which hopefully will be the last one.
I had put everything on hold the past month, including a comic I was working on.
As the wounds heal, I’m slowly picking my life back up again.
The creative fluids should be flowing once I become more mobile.

Change of plans

Aside from having to go back to the hospital, I have some more unfortunate news.
I may have a been too eager in my previous journal, claiming I’d proceed with Sushi Showdowns next.
But I don’t have the same passion that I had when I made my other comics. I thought about forcing myself to start again, but then it would end up half-assed and nobody would be happy with that.
Sad to say, I’m shelfing Sushi Showdowns for now, until I turn the concept into something better.
I currently got other ideas that I’m more enthusiastic about to make!

2020 Update

It’s been a while again since I typed a journal update. Plenty of things happen, so that calls for some news.
There’s nothing I can say about 2020 that hasn’t been said before… So I’ll just skip that!
A couple of weeks ago I had to go to the hospital for an infection (not corona. No worries) and I am still recovering from it. But it’s getting better and better with each day.
Now that I finished my AC comic, I want to keep up the comic-making pace by picking up where I left off with Sushi Showdowns (a title I’m still considering of changing when I come up with something better)
I want to upload pages at a steady pace, but I’m going to drop the weekly deadline and stick with “it’s up when it’s done”.
Have a nice summer and keep your distance!

Christmas and 2020

As 2020 is closing in and the final pages of this intro comic are approaching completion, I’d like to make a new journal entry regarding the future.
I’d like to continue comic, having written a couple of chapters already, but I can’t right now.
I haven’t gotten a proper paying job since I graduated, more than a year ago. I need to put more focus on that first. The reason I was able to make these comics was because of all the extra time I got. But I can’t fully enjoy making comics and focus on deadlines, when I have money issues to worry about.
I tried garnering attention for a Patreon, to see if my drawings would be good enough for it to earn something. Secretly hoping that maybe even going surprisingly well for me to turn it into a fun job instead of only a hobby and push out more than 1 page a week or something.
But I’m realistic; I don’t see that happening right now. Maybe if I gogh ahead and chop off one of my ears, but I’m not THAT desperate yet.
I’ll still draw when I feel like it, but it won’t have as big a priority. If my Patreon were to suddenly get to 200 a month, even if it wouldn’t be enough to live from, it would be convincing that there’s a future in my art and that everyone wants it enough.
I also want to take the opportunity to give an extra big thanks to the people that continue to support me for what I like to make.
And a shout-out to my loving parents who’ve always supported me without question.

It's Alive!

For the past 2 months I was fully dedicated to a sort-of-internship in VR. Which also meant I didn’t have much time left for drawing, sadly.
But I got some good news now and stuff to show!
It looks like I’ll be getting some more time soon. And I got plenty of stuff I’m going to start uploading overall!

I decided to use my long train trips to my advantage and work on more 3D stuff.
I’ve been rewatching Alfred J. Kwak recently, a cartoon from my childhood. A lot of nostalgic cartoons seem to return in 3D lately, which inspired me to try my luck at making a 3D model of one of the characters.
I chose Lispel the jellyfish, who was a recurring spy that sold information to pretty much any villain.
I’ve never made controls for tentacles before, so I figured it would be a good exercise.
Here’s a little animation I made to show what the model is basically capable of:

I may have hinted at it a few times, but never outright said it; but I have been writing a new Splatoon comic. Because I couldn’t start with it lately, I was a little quiet about because I didn’t want to give false hope and long waits. But I’m still working on it and excited to start with it, so at this point it’s an inevitability instead of a maybe! It plays off between Octoling in need of Asquidstance and A Kelping Hand and shows what happens during the time Alivia and Biff live together in Inkopolis and the two splatoons that they are captains of.
Alivia has settled in Inkopolis and is now living at Biff’s place. The people of Inkopolis are still oblivious to the fact that octolings are living among them, which is a secret New Moon Splatoon has to continue keep up at all times. Team Jetstream, the hopeless outcasts, have a dream and will fight tooth and tentacle for it. Both teams have members with different reasons for teaming up and fight together. Biff & Alivia’s teams turn out to be quite a match for each other and soon there grows a rivalry between them.
If there ever was a time to keep it a secret that you’re living with the rival captain, it’s now!

Posted 6 years agoBasically got an internship as a 3D artist. Though satisfying, the 5 hour trips are exhausting.
Updates may be a little slower for a bit. Hope you can all understand.

For the past months I’ve been writing up a storm. But right now I’m waiting for the weeks to become less chaotic and order to return.

So… what happens now?
The Bad news is:
I was able to create so much in a short time because I currently don’t have a job.
It’s been almost a year since I graduated as 3D Animator (BA) and I still haven’t found a job. It’s been rough.
As much as I like drawing comics, it sadly doesn’t bring food to the table. I need to set my sights on that more before I can confidently continue making new comics.
My loving parents have been really patient with me and I wanna give them a special thanks for all the support they continue to give me.
Atleast regular drawings itself isn’t a problem. I got a new tablet and I damn well want to make use of it now.
Bee considering setting up a Patreon and see what happens. Something as a gesture of love rather than an income, likely. Still not a 100% sure how it all works.
The Good news is:
Inkapacitation may be the end, but there’s plenty to tell about what happened before it.
What all happened during the time of Biff and Alivia in Inkopolis?
Who are their teammates?
How did their time together play out?
What kind of high jinx are we missing out on?!
AND WHICH SIDE OF THE SPLATFEST WON IN THIS UNIVERSE: WAFFLES OR PANCAKES?!
All valid questions and I already got a couple of good ideas for it.
I would like to experiment with focusing less on details. If it wasn’t obvious already: I’m perfectionist; when I see a chance to add details, I tend to do it even if it doesn’t add much, while it takes time that could’ve been used wiser.
Less is More.
If I can make them look good without 8+ separate layers for lighting, It would allow me to make more pages in a shorter time.
Aside from making those Kingdom Hearts Cards printable, I’ve also been working on another fun lil’ project for on my Youtube.
If you’re a fan of Deus Ex 1, you may have seen a few examples on Youtube. I personally find ‘em funny and decided to give it a go as well. X)

The final year has begun and started off with my minor: Game design.
The past 6 weeks I've been working with 2 other people on making an app game, with me as the Artist.
This was a 2D game project with 3 people. The upcoming assigment will be a 3D game and with 15 people in a team!

So, yea. Vacation has begun for me, after I've had been making animations for a game company for months. I get to take it a little easier now and pick up my hobbies again, like drawing.
Normally I draw cute stuff and sometimes a bit more cheekier stuff~. This time I chose to kick it up a notch. I'm certain nobody would mind. X)
That doesn't mean I'm suddenly gonna throw my work around and make stuff that would keep y'all from visiting my account while at work or something. But it doesn't mean that I'm not gonna stop trying new things. -cough-
Aside from that, This summer I'm gonna start coming up with a concept for my Final animation project next year to finish the art academy. finish reading my latest Arsene Lupin novel and pray that the sun is gonna shine some more.
