The details and fun facts of Robin Marx
Posted 5 years ago1. In her 1st drawn appearance, she didn't have a name. She was simply referred to as the "Hi Striker Vixen"
2. She was originally created for humor as part of an Oekaki Board's "Bizarro Valentine" theme, but seemed to draw some good feedback and grew on me more
3. She was inspired by my actual career as a carny, which spanned from 2003-13, though I originally tried to have her show more carny stereotypes like missing teeth
4. While her primary and favorite color is canary yellow, she sometimes also wears sky blue, which is another color she enjoys. This is not as random as it appears. When I 1st worked on North American Midway in 2007, their shirts for jointees (game workers) was yellow, but they later changed that to sky blue shirts. I still like showing her in the yellow more than the sky blue.
5. While she's mostly a nomad, being a carny by trade, she resides in Gibsonton, FL when off the road. Gibsonton (or as carnies often call it, "Gibtown") is a suburb of Tampa that was founded by carnies
6. No, I don't have a fetish for eyepatches, LOL, but I figure it does much for her character and shows how she's been through a rough life, even if enjoying every bit of it. Just don't ask her to take it off and don't ask how she lost that eye. It's 1 of her very few highly sensitive subjects.
7. Her name is an age old carny pun that originated in the sideshows. To understand it, you just need to know that the carny term for patrons is "marks"
8. While not always seen smoking, when she does smoke, she smokes cigars. This is a nod to the history of the hi striker game she works for a living. From sometime in the 19th Century until the 1950s, hi striker games used to give out cigars to those who rang the bell. This is also how the term "Close, but no cigar" originated

In Memory of Albert Temple/Gene Catlow
Posted 8 years agoAs a loyal follower of the furry fandom since 1999, anytime a fellow fur passes away, it's almost like losing a family member. While
genecatlow and I never got to know each other really well (which is something I do deeply regret now that he has passed away), he and his wife
catswhisker were 2 of the 1st furry artists I ever admired and followed during my "noob" years. To describe how much this death saddens me is beyond the feeling of losing an ordinary cousin. This hits me almost as if losing an uncle you wish you could've known better. In fact, this is actually the 1st time in my 18 years as a furry that I have actually cried over the loss of a fellow fur.
To Mr. Temple, may you Rest In Peace, and thank you for all the wonderful entertaining works you shared with us for so many years.
To his Ms. Gilroy and everyone else who loved and admired him, whether close or distant, you have my upmost condolences. I am feeling your pain and praying for all of you, regardless of what faiths you may have!

My thoughts on the election
Posted 9 years agoAs I voted for and wanted Gary Johnson, here's how I see it.
If you voted for Trump, I don't give a fuck
If you voted for Hillary, I don't give a fuck
If you voted for anyone else, I don't give a fuck
If you're going around unfriending, blocking or harassing people over who they voted for, you're a moron!
If you're leaving the country or committing suicide over the result of a stupid election, buh-bye!

Looking for committee to help start a con in Iowa
Posted 9 years agoSo far, I have
strikercheguar as my interim VP (pending completion of committee assembly, and vote after innaugeral committee meeting), and we could use more volunteers willing to help administer a convention in Iowa in the future. We have been currently considering the following venues:
Davenport
Hotel Davenport
Iowa City
Iowa House Hotel/Iowa Memorial Union
Cedar Rapids
DoubleTree Hotel Cedar Rapids Convention Complex
Best Western Plus Longbranch Hotel (too small to be more than a 1st year venue, though)
Coralville
Marriott Coralville Hotel & Conference Center

Crazy con idea
Posted 9 years agoLately, because I've wanted to eventually start a con in my home state someday, I searched places in eastern Iowa that might be big enough to hold one. The best possible venue I found was in Iowa City. Here's where this idea gets crazy. The venue would be the Iowa Memorial Union & Iowa House Hotel (attached to the Union), which are both owned by the University of Iowa. This would mean if I and a committee could get this booked, it would probably be the 1st time a furry convention would LITERALLY held on a college campus. By the way, besides a hotel, food court, art museum, and other cool things, the IMU has 17 meeting rooms and 4 ballrooms (+1 in the art museum if not during the academic season). 1 obstacle would be transportation as it's about 30 miles south of the nearest international airport: The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, but I know a cab or shuttle van from the airport to Iowa City would be $38 for 1 person and if demand is high enough, there's possibility of hiring a shuttle service, the cheapest route would be from the airport's off-site Burlington Trailways terminal to downtown Iowa City. They only would charge $10 per rider. This is still in the idea phase, though

Explaination of Rocco's tye dye
Posted 10 years agoNo I don't wear it for LGBTQ pride, and no I'm not a hippie, I simply like the tye dye because it's colorful. Back when I was a dunk tank clown, 1 of my best outfits to wear in the tank included overalls over a tye dye shirt :o)
AC Bound for sure!

I'll be staying at the Wyndham Grand, sure it's 6 blocks away from the convention center, but if I could walk over 30 miles in a day (which I used to when I was a drifter) 6 blocks is nothing. I also love how the train station is right between the 2 places :o)

On Harold Ramis (R.I.P.)
Posted 11 years agoHe truly was a man I respected highly as I loved just about all of his work. From acting in Stripes, Ghostbusters movies, Heavy Metal, and other films, to all the great works he wrote and directed. Here are some of my favorite movie quotes of his.
"We had part of a Slinky once, until I straightened it." -As Egon in Ghostbusters II
"If there's 1 thing I know how to do, it's drive stoned!" -As Zeke in Heavy Metal
"Well, let’s say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning’s sample, it would be a Twinkie… thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds." -As Egon in Ghostbusters

6am: show up to work, find out lock box to get into office is frozen, walk to Hy-Vee to call since I forget my cell phone at home, almost losing all feeling in my ears from the frostbite
6:45: finally get into cab, only to find out headlights are out and there's no power steering
7am: finally take off in another cab
10am: slide on ice through a stop sign and collide with a moving pickup truck
The results: $195 fine for stop sign violation & now possibly having to pay $500 for the insurance deductable + salvage fees

Posted 12 years agoI don't like to post about my woes, nor about the negative realities that is my life, believe me, but I dunno if I'm gonna survive this bus trip home. I haven't eaten in over a day in 1/2 and don't have anything to my name to eat off of until I get home Friday afternoon. Even worse is last night during a bus layover in Beaumont, TX, some prick stole my cell phone while I was asleep (UGH!!!), This recent run in the carnivals has cost me way more than it has gained me! I pray to God I never have to work another carnival again, but God doesn't seem to want me to keep a job that makes me a profit, or else I'd still be driving semis for STS and not up this creek without a paddle :o(
Major furry sports announcement (FBA, FCAA & FSPN)
Posted 12 years agoAs much as I like
buckhopper's FBA and get along with Buck,
steviemaxwell, and several other GMs, due to 3 consecutive years of getting shut out in the draft and lack of time to do anything there anymore (mainly because of how busy I am in the Second Life pro wrestling circuit), I must announce my retirement from involvement from the league, I still respect the league highly, I just feel like an outcast from them.
As for
, it is also because of this lack of time to keep up that I must step down as head of the group and am offering it to anyone who wants it.
The FCAA, if I find time, I might just do the tournaments, but will most likely give it up all together.
