Bassy here. This will be one of those rare journals were I talk about something that happened in my personal life, somewhat. It's a pretty long one too, but I feel it's worth sharing with everyone, specially other fellow artists.

I have a pretty messed up scheddule, so lately, in my attempts to get through my due art, I try to crunch in as many work hours as I can, more than usual, taking advantage of the fact I'm pretty much self-employed and work at home.

So I decide that, in order to finish my Halloween picture early and move into my other drawings and Windborn, I say "fuck you weekend" and work my ass through what were supposed to be my days off. I'm no stranger to depriving myself of rest and even a few break meals, so it shouldn't hurt me much. Right?

Hours into my work, sitting on the computer drawing, suddenly my heard starts spinning, dizzy, lightheaded and even short of breath. Lasts a few seconds. And it keeps coming back and forth irregularely through the day.

I ignore it the first day. Maybe it was a one time thing. Day two, again I'm supposed to rest but there I was, working on my Halloween pic. It happens again. Milder symptoms again, but same crap. Now it starts to concern me. Low blood pressure? Worse? I tell myself ok, if it happens again, I'll just go to the doctor.

Day three. I wake up early and the first thing I do is, guess what, work on my drawings! By now the Halloween pic is finished, but hey, there's still shit to do. Symptoms happen again. Welp, time to see doctor now.

Good news, blood pressure is fine, as is sugar levels. In most likeliness, it's two things: work induced stress and lack of enough water (which I tend to neglect in order to draw more). Nothing some meds, water AND some real effin rest won't fix hopefully.

Except, you know, I'm the kind of idiot who stresses when he's drawing, but gets even MORE stressed when I'm not. Ever been an artist on a day off and having this weird, naggin feeling that you should stop slacking, get your ass in your desk and drawing something? Anything? Even a lazy ass doodle? Well, that's exactly how it goes.

But, there's no way around it. Either you rest, and learn to enjoy it and not worry about the work you're not doing - and the money you could be doing -, or you get worse, end up heading to the emergency room and lose even more precious hours of work you so badly dreaded to lose.

Morale of the story...REST AND RELAX!! It's hard once you've made a habit out of working a lot, but your health goes first. And that money you were trying to earn and save up for stuff? You'll only end up using it for medical expenses and heading back to square one. Tis a harsh lesson, but an important one. And luckily, no one (me) lost consciousness in the process.

As for my art, Halloween pic is done, so it'll get posted on the 31st. Windborn will get updated this week as usual (thank goodness for buffer). Everything else I had in the works will have to wait up for a few days til my body says it's good to get back in business.

I promised it once and I promised it twice. So now that my last commission batch is finished, it's time I fulfilled both promises at last! No abridged version like past times though - this time, the long and detailed version. Because I believe all my followers, especially those who looked forward to commission me, deserve to know at least this. Fair warning, it's going to be yet another long journal, this time for good reason though.


So, why am I, Bassybird, closing off from doing commissions?



Before I properly answer that question, there's something I need to come clean about - in truth, I'm not entirely quitting from doing commissions. It's just that instead, I'll be doing commissions for a single, particular commissioner.

Wait, what? Why??

Let me explain myself. First off, I have nothing against doing commissions for anyone. All in all, I've had an amazing time drawing commissions for all kinds of people! Many of my favorite drawings have been ideas and/or characters from commissioners, not to mention they've given me a perfect opportunity to challenge myself and diversify my palette of subjects, poses and anthro species. And I regret a little having to give up that.

So then why am I? It all came down to economy - of time, money, stress, etc. A less amount of workload, same amount of financial gain and more time to work on my personal projects. And I had the opportunity to work with one amazing commissioner with whom I managed an arrangement to make this possible - kalofoxfire, aka “Kalo”, (who gave me permission to openly name him).

I won't bother anyone with the nitty-gritty details of our arrangement and why it's far more convenient for me, so I'll just say that that it simply puts me in a better position for me as an artist. I'll still be able to draw some personal art now and then, while still being able to make some profit through my drawing and, most of all, have more time than ever to work on my main project - ya know, that vague big project I keep talking about. More about that in a moment!

I'd really like to apologize to anyone who was looking into commissioning me in the future. I hope you understand that as much as I would have liked to continue things the way they were, this new deal is just a whole new opportunity for me as an artist. Also, Kalo is a really nice person and I'd appreciate that, regardless of how you feel about this, you leave him be and don't take whatever resent you may have on him.

UPDATE: As of this journal's first posting, if you see any artwork drawn by me posted by anyone besides Kalo or I, know that it was paid by Kalo and no one else.



So, what was the need for this new deal o begin with? Why did I want to get all this workload off shoulders? Because from now on, I want to dedicate most of my spare time working on that big, important project of mine - my webcomic, Windborn.

For those who frequent FurAffinity, you may have noticed an ad banner advertising said comic. Well, that's it. The big project that's been taking most of my time and effort. But hold on a second, didn't you talk about Windborn before? I did, actually. I made an announcement about it sometime before the comic launched...then deleted it soon after.

Originally, I was planning to keep Windborn and my furry artwork (as Bassybird) separate from one another as much possible, only telling a few select people that I was doing both things. However, those "select few" ended up being not so few anymore as I began to tell more and more people about it. And well, it dawned on me that sooner or later the proverbial cat would come out of the bag, no matter what I did.

So I figured, what the heck, why not openly let my followers at FA and tumblr know from the get go? Let the followers who didn't know already check out what I'm up to. After all, in this day an age, there are more and more artists who balance between been doing lewd art as a hobby while working on a big, more wholesome project.

Besides, it'd save me a lot of awkwardness if I someday start creating NSFW content for Windborn...but I'm getting way ahead of myself. That's talk for another time. ;P

Now a few things to clarify regarding Windborn:

-I'm not going to post any Windborn content in my FA/tumblr gallery, at all.
-I won't post any updates or announcements of Windborn in FA or tumblr, only in the comic's official site, RSS feed and social media pages.
-I really won't be talking much about Windborn in here and I'm not even sure if I'd be able (or willing) to answers many questions about it. But if it's somehow relevant to my FA/tumblr galleries, feel welcome to ask anyway!
-Last but not least, I have no problem whatsoever with anyone drawing art, or even commissioning art, of any of the Windborn characters, be it SFW or NSFW.



And, well, that's that. The big, elaborate reason why I won't be doing commissions for everyone - at least for a long, indefinite amount of time. In the long run, if it's successful enough, I do intend to make Windborn my sole project and dedicate entirely to it. But we're talking years from now on, and a lot of things could happen. Maybe it'll crash and burn and I'll be back to open commissions. Maybe I'll do something entirely different. Who knows.

But for now, this is the plan - personal art, commissions for one person and one big, time consuming webcomic - and I thought you all deserved to know it. So thank you for reading! As usual, I'm willing to answer any questions you may have about this whole shebang.

Hey everyone! Bassy here, with my wrists feeling better sooner than expected. Now with a handle of quick updates about all sorts of art-related stuff, as well as a few WIPs of what I'm cooking up right now - color coded for your reading convenience!


1. As you can already tell, my final commission batch is near its end. As I've mentioned before, there will be a big journal explaining out my reasons for closing off like this. There's a couple of things I feel I need to come off clean about, but we'll get to that soon enough!

I was originally going to wait for Season 2 to come out first, but seeing that it may as well never do at this point, I said fuck it and started up a small little lineup of new frog pics. One of the banes of every artist's existance is upon me and I'm figuring out how to deal with it. It's possible that it may caused by something other than exhaustion - like bad sleep posture for instance. Woah! I ended up getting more people in than I imagined today! I'm so thankful for everyone who decided to get a commission from me. So thankful in fact that I ended up giving the chance for a couple more people to get a slot, for a total of 10. Seriously, thanks! It means a lot for me, both frequent commissioners and new ones alike.

It saddens me a bit to close the doors on commissions for a lot of people, but future circumstances recquiere that I do. Once again, I'll make sure to fill you in about this in a future journal once this batch is done with. Hey everyone! Bassy here, with a very important notice about my next commission batch.

For everyone who's been wanting to commission a picture from and hasn't had the chance to do, I suggest you to take the chance to have one if you can, because after my next batch, I am closing off from doing commissions indifenitely.

To compensate for this sudden turn of events, I'll be increasing the number of commission slots to allow more people a chance to get a commission from me. I don't have an exact ammount yet, but it'll will be well past my usual ammount.

If you're wondering for my reasons to close off commissions, it's nothing I haven't talked abotu before: my other projects taking priority more and more. I'll be able to get into further details in the future, but just know that this is not due to an emergency or any other kind of sudden circumstance.

Next batch opens August 16th

Bassy here. There's a big lesson I learned, or more like re-learned, from the my ordeal with the Kazooie/Jewel/Crane image series, now abandoned, which is being patient with my artwork, both as long-term projects and individual pieces.

When I first started the series with the Kazooie pics, I did it at a leisurely pace, without any pressure to get it done right away. This was back when the Miss Renamon series had just started off. Then as I began to sidetrack and work on different pictures, like the Jurassic World and beach Darma pics, and as my plans changed to throw Jewel and Crane into the mix, things just went hectic.

Once I decided that these image series were too much to work with and cancelled them, I set myself on to finish Jewel and Crane's pin ups in a bit of hurry. And I think it shows quality-wise. I'm overall proud of they turned out, but the ammount of care and attention I put to Kazooie's pics wasn't the same. It wasn't as fun to do them either with so much hurry to just wrap them up.

From now on, I'm set on giving myself time to work on individual pieces and ensure they're the best quality possible, even if it's at the expense of image output. Which shouldn't be much of a concern since as of late I am putting out a decent ammount of art anyways, partly thanks to commissions. Quality over quantity, after all. It's a bit of a shame that some of my pieces suffered from my haste, but as a silver lining, I got a good lesson out of it. A lesson well worth remembering.~

Hello, everyone! Bassy here with an important announcement, and a long one at that, regarding the dubious future of “weekly series” projects that I’ve been doing the last couple of years, IE, Feathursday, Buttload of Gryphons, etc.

My weekly image series have been some of my favorite things to draw for my online galleries (tumblr and FA). On top of giving me reasons to draw characters I normally wouldn’t have, having a theme added to them gives them a bit more flavor to them besides being mere pin-ups (with the exception of the Friday Fanart series). And even though I’ve only done four of them so far, I’ve had several future ideas written down, a few of which I’ve teased before, and the desire to draw them hasn’t really gone away.

However, due to several circumstances, I’'ve decide to put all future weekly image series in indefinite hiatus, possibly cancel them.

So what circumstances are these? First and biggest of them, lack of time, partly from the frequent ammount of commissions I get as of late. Don’t got me wrong tho, I’m super thankful for that! Being paid work, however, gives them priority over most other things I work on.

Commissions, however, don’t figure on what takes most of my time during the day. My projects outside of tumblr and FA, the ones you seldom get to hear from me, are my biggest priorities. I have a side job as an animator to complement the money I make from commissions - and if you wonder why I don’t make animations for my galleries anymore, it’s because I don’t like mixing both professions together. Personal work ethic of mine.

And of course, there’s my webcomic, which I’ve mentioned here a few times in the past. It’s my biggest project at this moment and where most my energies are going into.

Aside from time, there’s another two important reasons I’m considering abandoning the weekly series, or rather, lack of them: purpose and profit. Why purpose? Because the weekly series originally gave me a reason to draw characters and themes I’d normally not give myself time to do. On top of that, it guaranteed that I’d have at least one picture ready to be posted every week. Lately, however, I find myself sidetracking and making drawings, both personal and commissioned, that not only accomplish the same goals, but are far more fulfilling than those from the series. Hence, I see little purpose to continue doing them.

And why profit? Bluntly, because it was far too much work for no monetary gain. Whereas many artists usually sell projects like these as image bundles, I prefer doing it for free. It is simply not my philosophy to profit from my artwork that way. So between making no image series or making them for a price, I’d rather go with the former option.

Last but not least, there’s the matter of fatigue and pressure that have been turning me off from drawing any further image series. I’ve said this before on occassions, but all of my weekly image series, including the current Miss Renamon 2018, are all finished before they begin to get posted. Saddly, trying to keep things up that way just aren’t working out for me, with Miss Renamon nearly done and the next series barely even started with.

Because of all these complications I’ve been struggling to keep my priorities in check when it comes to artwork. Thus, I think a solution to this is to get what is, I believe, the least important of my artistic commitments, which is the weekly series.

So what to expect of the weekly series from today on?

First of, the Miss Renamon series will continue as planned. When all pics are posted, I will hold a poll where viewers can vote for their favorite and the winner will be drawn in a special victory pic, as I promised.

The next planned image series was going to be a 15-picture series featuring Kazooie, Jewel and Master Crane in the reimagined anthro versions that I’ve posted lately. Right now only three pics have been made so far of just Kazooie (who was at first going to be the sole character in them). While I may not cancel these series altogether, I am definitely thinking it of downsizing the ammount of drawings in it and post them at irregular, non-weekly intervals, so I may work on them without any pressure.

And finally, any future image series after that aren’t currently planned to get worked on, including the male-only series I asked suggestions for a few weeks ago. I apologize to anyone to was looking forward to it. I appreciate your interest a lot and I’ll look into bringing the concept I had planned for it back in the future, perhaps in a different way.

I would also like to introduce a new concept for my commissions: Character Discounts!

How does it work? Each new batch, I'll post a small list of characters along with an ammount. If someone commissions me a picture involving at least one of those characters, they receive a discount of that ammount from the final price. Most of the time these will be characters from movies, games or cartoons, but I may occassionally include some of my original characters, which will have bigger discounts than the former category. The list will change with every new batch, both in the characters themselves and the ammount of them.

There's a few other limitations. Each character can only be claimed once per batch, so two commissioners on the same batch cannot ask for the same character. Also, I may or may not limit whether said character can or cannot be drawn as an anthro, feral, different gender or different bodtype. Other than that, as long as it follows my Guidelines, the commission they're drawn in can have any content!

All of this said, Character Discounts are currently just an experiment. Depending on how they work out this batch, I may or may not do them again. If I do, the dynamics may change. I may also not offer them every batch.

And last but not least, Character Discounts are of course completely optional. You're free to ask for a commission involving any character of your choice that isn't in the list for my usual Commission Prices!.

Bassy here! A big thank you to everyone for being patient on my last commission. After a very busy last couple of weeks, I’m ready to start working on everyone’s commissions once more.

Although, before anyone jumps in, I wanted to make a couple of quick updates on information regarding commissions:

-I’m putting a limit of 8 characters per drawing. This based on my experience with my last commission, and so I don’t take too long to finish a single drawing.

-Reminder to please, when sending me payments through paypal, change the currency to USD. Refer to my last announcement for more info.

Bassy here! This is a brief service announcement to all my commissioners out there.

As I've mentioned in my Price Guide sheet (and now on my T.O.S. as well), I only accept payments in US Dollars. This is so I can keep much better track of my financial records. Even though my Paypal account was made before I moved to the USA, and thus has a differen native currency, I still want to receive payments as USD only.

So a big request to all commissioners, regardless of where in the world you live: when you send me a payment, please make sure that the output currency (the money I'll be receiving) is set to USD. Otherwise, the money I receive will be converted to my original currency, and it'll have to convert to USD later on when using it to make purchases here in the U.S.

Because of Paypal conversation rates I may end up receiving a little less than I would otherwise, but since that money is gonna end up converting to USD at some point anyway, getting that done beforehand would make me and Wolfeh's finances a whole lot easier and less time consuming.

Hello all. First of all, a big apology to anyone who's been wanting to commission me. Though I was hoping to reopen commissions by now, it just wasn't possible with the ammount of workload I had. However, I feel confident to resume business again starting next monday, April 2nd.
