After rereading chapter 3 after I posted it, I noticed some flaws in my writing. I noticed I tend to just tell the reader how the character is feeling instead of showing them through the character's actions, speech, and thoughts. I went back and fixed some of this. I think it's a big improvement. Please let me know if you notice anything else I need to work on!

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to update everyone. The knee surgery I had this morning was a complete success! I am very sore, but all in all, I feel pretty good! The meds definitely help! I don't have to use crutches and can already put weight on it for a limited amount of time. My partner has been wonderful and is taking very good care of me.

Tomorrow morning I am going to have knee surgery. I will be off of work for about a week while I recover so I will most likely be online a lot more than usual. I will probably be bored out of my mind!

Anyway, it will provide me an opportunity to do some more writing. If you see me online, please say hi, and please forgive me if I ramble incoherently. I will probably be on some heavy pain meds. :)

Hi everyone! Today in my Fitness and Wellness class, my professor talked to us about facing adversity. She began talking about how different people handle stress and adverse situations differently. She showed some articles about murders and people cracking under tough life situations. She then showed us an article about a mother of six was killed. The 8 year old daughter witnessed her mother being murdered. The investigators used cruel, strenuous, and corrupt interrogation techniques and basically forced the little girl to say that her father had done it. The father admitted to having an affair but not to the murder of his wife. But he was sent to prison for life even though he was innocent. Our professor then revealed that that little girl was her. SHE had witnessed her mother's murder. SHE had been forced at 10 years old to wrongly accuse her dad of the murder which sent him to prison for the rest of his life. When she got older she tried to clear his name but with no success. He since died. Recently, she's spoken with investigators and has been told that her father was obviously innocent and that today, this would never have happened. But she has to live with it. Instead of being an alcoholic or a basket case, which we would understand, she went to college on music and track scholarships. She, with her relay team, broke a world record. Then she got in a car accident which ended her running career but still traveled with the team to competitions. But one weekend, she stayed back to do homework. On their way to that competition, her team's van was struck by a truck and killed many of her teammates. It is likely that if she would have gone with that weekend, she would have died too.

Today, Professor Ingram has her doctorate in Kinesiology (or something of the like, I'm not exactly sure). She is an expert on sports, fitness, nutrition, and health. She is highly recognized in her field and speaks at many conferences and events on her knowledge and research. She has a husband and two kids. She says that she got through it all by surrounding herself with a good support network of people who cared about her and encouraged her to live up to her potential. She said that her faith played a huge part too. And she said that ultimately, sometimes you just have to laugh.

I'm not exactly sure why this lecture got to me like it did. It could be the way she speaks. But it really opened my eyes. She said that no one can compare their experiences to anyone else's. Everyone goes through hard times and it is how you handle them that makes you who you are. Everything happens for a reason. I am not sure if I would've turned out like her if I had gone through what she has. It just makes me want to be more positive and choose to be happy even when it's hard. If she could accomplish everything she has, then surely, anyone can. It makes me appreciate my family. My siblings, mom, my friends. We are so fortunate to have each other, our health, our situations.
