Status Update!
Posted a year agoIt's been A LONG while huh? Giving a brief status update in case you were wondering where I've been on FA and elsewhere.
I've been mainly focusing on my own meandering doodling via Patreon/Twitter for the last like.. decade! Going to try to show more love to my FA since it's a very important place to me really.
Also have been trying to focus on my art skills harder. I've really slacked for a long time.. so wish me luck >.< I WILL CRUSH IT. I SWEAR.. Gonna work hard.

iPad Pro vs Surface Pro 4 Digitizer Showdown
Posted 9 years agoI've been on the hunt for a portable art tablet for a while.. This is just a quickie write-up to summarize my thoughts after using both devices.
Everything here is biased as heck and based on my own experiences and tastes. : D
iPad Pro 9.7" / Surface Pro 4 i5 8gb (SP4)
Stylus Input (Winner iPad Pro):

This is the most important category to me. Without good input ya got nothin. :V NOTHIN!!!
-Screen/Stylus parallax is close enough for me not to care. Both are spot on.
-Pressure sensitivity. Both are excellent.. the SP4 bumped this up from 512 to 1024 levels and I honestly can't tell at all.
-Responsiveness goes to Apple hands down. Citiq's passive stylus run at around 120hz, Apple pencil is 250hz, MS haven't advertised their polling rate. iPad pro stylus feels more responsive than anything I've used before hand down.
-Stair-casing/Jitter problems. This has been a problem on active digitizers forever though not a problem depending how you draw. When drawing slow diagonal lines the tracking can form a wavy pattern. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z0YurhNy88
On SP3 the issue was quite obvious, it's still present on the SP4 though slightly improved. It's near imperceptible on the iPad Pro. I was able to reproduce it when moving EXTREMELY slowly and it was very minute bumps, a non-issue.
Stylus Physical Design (Winner Surface Pro 4):

Microsoft destroys in this category imo...
-Better material and shape for grip
-A Button! (buttons are nice to have)
-Size, the Apple pencil is loooong and back-heavy
-Magnets! (it sticks to the side of your tablet, super handy)
-Eraser
-Changable tips with options to choose from (grippy, slippery, etc)
-Charging mechanism is awful on the Pencil. Plugging it directly into the iPad leaves it rigidly sticking out from the bottom.. one wrong move and that puppy's toast. They ship a female-female connector to let you charge it on a cable at least (something tiny to lose). Feel like they could have come up with a way to snap it onto the magnetic pins where the keyboard connects to charge. I much prefer the 1 year battery on the surface pen in this regard.
Size/Weight (Winner iPad Pro):
==============
Surface: 786g / iPad Pro 9.7: 437g
To be fair, there's a hell of a lot more going on in the Surface so no surprise here. It also is substantially smaller in terms of screen size (the 9.7" model).
Software (Winner Surface Pro 4):
==============
Being able to run any software I run on my desktop machine is a huge bonus (Clip Studio, zbrush, desktop Photoshop/Flash). To be fair there's some SICK software on the iPad like ProCreate (only NINE bux!!!).
File management also is way breezier imo on the SP4/Win 10.
One thing not brought up enough is hover. From what I understand tablet iOS has no capability to display cursors.. so despite having an active stylus it STILL can't display a brush cursor unless you're drawing. This sucks butts. Though it could be fixed down the line (software limitation).. we don't know that it will be.
Cost (????)
This is pretty up in the air. In one way they're bargains compared to equivalent Cintiq's... though if you ask me they're still overpriced for what they are.
On one hand you've got a $1040CAD tablet for watching netflix and drawing furry porn. Alternatively for a mid-range SP4 you're spending over $2000CAD (EEK), though it's definitely a capable a laptop replacement and not just a monster-drawing/netflix machine.
Conclusion: I still can't decide. :(

I just got tired of the layout and all the facebook integration garbage that kept popping up there.
Took my collection of crap, cleaned it up and re-uploaded all of it though. Here's the new spot!
You should be able to scroll though here for all the high res versions of my stuff.

Turns out I'm going to be at FC. Mostly thanks to someone very kindly helping me out with a room. That and school almost behaving for once.
If ya'd like to hang out at some point I'll be... there! Somewhere. So try not to step on me. Not right away anyways. Durp.

One more thing, not sure if anyone'll have any advice to give me on this but s'always welcome. I'm gona buy my tickets tomorrow. Planning on doing it like this but I don't travel often.
5am-9am, train to Seattle - 40 bux each way
12pm-6pm, plane to San Jose - 176 bux round trip
Will be there starting late Thursday to sometime Monday. Most time I could get away for! >.>

Walking back all exhausted from finals and found a note on the car... rear driver side wheel well dented and scraped. Did some investigating and found out it went down something like this.
-Guy speeds in and bumps my car, right quick. He proceeds to walk away without doing anything.
-Other guy watching, super nice, leaves a note with his phone number and the smashers plate.
-Original guy comes back sometime in between and takes off the note. Writes his own without a plate.
-Cool guy comes back to check again, finding his note gone. Re-appends his phone number and the plate to it.
Eeeesh! Looks okay for me anyways. Will most likely be covered and my name clear. Wheee. Poor car. T.T

Posted 16 years agoJust sitting here... bored and eating ginger snaps. Started thinking about all the things people will tell me I'm wrong to like. Stuff people'ul scold me for or suddenly look at me differently after knowing.
Just to preface my little list. These are important things and stupid things, things that go both ways, things that might not make sense to anyone but me. Either way just an experiment.
-Final Fantasy VII is my favorite Squaresoft game. People will freak out over this for some reason. To the point of calling me names. It's happened.
-Lost. I think it's an okay show. Used to be better, I still like it. My friends can't stop telling me I have no taste.
-Rap. Not my favorite genre of music. Not even close. I listen to some french rap once in a while and it gets me glares and snickering without fail. Same goes for 40s/50s music. >.> Weird, it's like the opposite in most people's minds.
-Macrophile, vore, furry.
-Guns. I like to go to the range, tinker and modify, practice shooting. Most people seem to have a phobia of this kind of behavior.
-Drinking icy drinks in winter. Weird one, right? Someone gave me the glare of death while I was drinking an Iced Cappuccino a week ago. I love cold drinks.
-Mac stuff. I'm no fan of Apple products really... But for the year or so I had an iPod I never heard the end of it from my friends. Freakin' hell. It's just a music player.

Posted 16 years agoVoosh. Now I'm in London. Went to a friendly pub and gobbled stuff. Walked around Kensington and Hyde park. Pretty tired already but I just got here...
Paris was great. So much good food. People were pretty cool as long as I spoke french to 'em without screwing up. Some amazing sights too. Yeeks! But now I'm in London. SOOOO looking forward to this part of my trip.

Today was one of those... Let's walk around and point at things days. Really tired and lazy the whole time. Such good food at least... Eeeeesh!

FC soon. Going to be staying at Motel 6 for Wednesday and then in the DoubleTree until Monday night. We have some kind of fancy suite or something I heard, woo-hoo. Will be out and about so say hi if you see me.

Cern Castle Crashers while he was over for his b-day. It was freakin awesome. Ended up also getting a controller for myself. It's red. <3
