Preliminary disability rating
Posted 13 years agoI found out the proposed rating I will get from the army and VA. 10% on both........... WTF?!
A fucking spinal injury to where I am in constant pain which is also pinching a nerve which makes my left leg feel like it is in constant pain and all they suggest I get is 10%?! With multiple re-injuries in the line of duty and a combat deployment while injured that I highly protested and I only get 10%. This is what I get after ten years in the military. Can someone pull the knife out of my back instead of wiggling it around?
I am going to JAG tomorrow to see what I can do. I'm sure that nothing can be done with the army since they use range of motion anyway. The VA is not even tracking my sciatic nerve pain. I will bug my PA to get me an appointment with another doctor so that more tests can be done and hopefully I submit it to the VA after I am out and raise my percentage.
To anyone thinking about joining the military, please consider all other options. You don't want to get caught up in this nonsense where you will be fighting pointless wars for people that don't even want you there in the first place. If you do go in, make sure that whenever you're hurt you go to sick call and complain about it. If you get put on a profile, never let anyone force you to break it. My whole time in the army wasn't all that bad, but these last few years have had me regretting my recent enlistment.
More as it comes in.

I got this book to help me pass time during a bad day. Once I started reading it I found it hard to put down. I finished it in a few days. There was so much about the characters that I could relate to. I found myself wanting to be in that world and helping out wherever I could. The book brought out some of the damages caused by DADT and the fears one has about being outed. I recommend this book to anyone that can handle a few detailed sex scenes.

cianthefur and I went shooting with
lagarto and
hyper. It was fun even though it got pretty cold towards the end. I brought my 22lr and 30-30 lever action. They brought a 22lr, 9mm, and a 12ga.We ate at Tokyo Joes when we got back. It was pretty good, I'm glad we went there.
On another note, I finally replaced the original battery (7 years old) in my jeep and when I was driving it around something happened to my back axel. I think the gears got destroyed again. I might just fix it and sell my jeep. I've hardly used it for months and right now I can't afford the maintenance on it.

NARSUM
Posted 13 years agoI have received my NARSUM (don't worry about what that is) a few weeks ago and it has been sent up to the PEB. My next step is that they determine whether or not I am fit for duty and I will get my percentages soon after.
At this point, it could take six or more weeks for my percentages. I might not be out of the army until March or later. I'll update once I get my percentages.
[edit]
The good thing is that I will hit my ten year mark in January. Why is that good you ask? Well, take a look at this with E-5 pay. http://usmilitarypaychart.com/2013-.....ary-pay-chart/

Substance Dualism

This seems so obvious that it is amazing that people still believe it. If you destroy a part of your brain, your consciousness will be affected. There is no nonphysical mind that exists independently from physical brain matter. We are the product of ~3.6 Billion years of evolution which has put us in environments that pressured the bodies of our ancestors to require a bigger brain that is capable of abstract thought. A byproduct of this is that we try to form patterns that do not exist. Hopefully, with the advent of advanced artificial intelligence we will be able to learn more about ourselves and the emergence of superstitions.

Sad story, but justice was won
Posted 13 years agoFor those that don't know, I work at a gym on Fort Carson while I am going through the Med Board process. One of the supervisors there is a retired Command Sergeant Major who has been through Vietnam all the way to Desert Storm.
On 2 May 1964, his brother, Charles Eddie Moore, along with a friend were picked up by the Ku Klux Klan. They were taken to a National Forrest where they were tortured before being taken to the Mississippi river where Charles was tied to a jeep engine and thrown in alive. His friend was tied to a flywheel and tossed in the river as well. Evidence was gathered by the FBI, but the case went cold due to a higher profile "Mississippi Burning" case and Klan interference at local and state levels.
In 2005, 41 years after the murders, Canadian Broadcasting Company journalist David Ridgen contacted Mr. Moore and convinced him to return to Mississippi so they could investigate what happened and have closure. He eventually got that plus the fact that by his efforts, the only remaining suspect living was arrested and charged with one count of conspiracy to kidnap two persons and two counts of kidnapping where the victims were not released alive and sentenced to three life sentences.
The most touching part of the documentary is when the US District Attorney who was an officer in the same division as Mr. Moore said, "We will take a real careful look at this for you. It is the least I can do, for my old Sergeant Major." They had never met until that day. Anyone in the Army and military in general will understand.

Great Sand Dunes
Posted 13 years agoThis weekend I went to the dunes with
cianthefur. I get off at 10p, so we didn't arrive until around 1a that night. The campsites at the park were full so we had to go down the road to a private site. The location was pretty cool but there was a group near us that was pretty damn loud until about 2:30a.
We woke up at around 8:30a and started breaking down the camp. We went down to the store to pay for the camp site and we ate at the diner there which was pretty damn good. We went to Alamosa to get water and a few other things before heading to the dunes to get a camp site in the park. Once we were set we went out to the dunes. It was about 1p or so and I went out without shoes on like a dumbass and got blisters between my toes. We went back to the site and I took a nap. I took a lot of amazing pictures such as the sun setting over the dunes and night sky shots, but my SD card messed up and most of those pictures were lost.
On Sunday we woke up and broke down camp. We had our breakfast (MREs) and headed out to the dunes again. This time I was wearing my black combat boots with thick Fox River socks. It was also about 11a or so and the sands weren't nearly as warm. This time we were able to make it up to the second tallest dune (the tallest is too far away) which was a reward for me since the only other time I did that was when the sand was firm after a blizzard. In case you are wondering, walking on sand hurts my back, a lot. On the way down we came across two owl pellets which were pretty interesting.
After all of that we headed back. We got to see the landscape around us this time since it was mid afternoon. The aspen trees were a nice golden color and were nice to look at. Overall, this trip was überfun and I think I have a bit of PDD (Post Dunes Depression). I can't wait for Friday to roll around so I can be with Cian and our ferrets again.

Cosmic Journeys : How Large is the Universe?
Posted 13 years agoI love videos like this. How awe inspiring it is to see how small and insignificant we are. In the video it is asserted that the visible universe would look like an atom to the total of the universe. If that is the case, then we would be smaller than Planck length (1.616199(97)×10⁻³⁵m) in comparison. This idea makes me feel that it is even more likely that if there were a deity that created the universe then it is deistic in nature. In other words, pretty much every organized religion is wrong. :Þ Of course, we don't know for sure. So if you want to keep on believing in a personal deity that affects the day to day activities of the inhabitants of Earth (and to a lesser extent, the solar system) then ok. But if you want to pass laws based on that belief or convince others of your belief, then present the evidence. By looking at the mountain of evidence against it, you better have something very convincing that can be independently verified.
I really love the part where it starts out with our galaxy and zooms out. Even at this stage our galaxy looks like a mere prick of light. It can be erased and the rest of the universe would hardly notice!

Genetically Modified Food
Posted 13 years agoWhy the fuck are people against it?! With the droughts we are having, wouldn't you want a crop that can still produce food without as much water as other crops? I think the real issue is people believe in pseudo-science and think that such crops will poison us somehow and destroy humanity or whatnot. People will believe anything.

Workout update
Posted 13 years agoIt's been a few months since I've started regularly and only about a month or so since I've had an actual plan. lol
I have seen notable improvements in my arms and chest. My back feels stronger too.
cianthefur said that my lats feel bigger and more defined.
Lately I have been using a scale that measures body fat. I started at above 25% and stayed there for a while, which was really irritating, but then it dropped to 24.4% and last night I was at 23.8%! Wooo!
I am liking the mirror more and more. xÐ I used to be thinner and stronger before I hurt my back, but I don't think that I ever looked this defined. :Ð
My cardio is swimming laps, last time I had to swim 25 meter lanes instead of my normal 25 yard lane. I did 30 laps of that last time which equals to 32 laps in the yard lanes. In case you are wondering, that was 1,500 meters or 1640 yards (.93 miles).
My weight lifting is a variation of three workouts. Unlike most people, mine is set up for a full body workout. I have definitely shown improvement there, I have gone higher in weights every week.
I might start taking progress pictures, but the last time I did that I got bummed out by how I looked and lost a lot of motivation. I should just have my mate handle all of that. :Þ

We're NASA and we know it!
Posted 13 years agoRMFC Debriefing
Posted 13 years agoYeah, I know. It's about damn time I did this.
On Thursday night I was told that I had Friday off. So the first thing I did when I got to my room was to pack up and haul ass to Denver to meet
cianthefur at
FoxTrotClub. I can say that this one seemed to be the worst one yet. It was due to the venue which was probably the only one that would take one the trot on a Thursday. There were norms all over the place and the area for the club was way too damn hot even for those out of suit. When I got there I noticed my mate looked tired as hell so I met a few friends and then we went back home.
On Friday we arrived at the con around noon or so. We went to the room and
wesleywaya had to let us in because we didn't have the key yet. We later bumped into
rox777 and
pyndan to get our key before signing in. We moved the rest of our stuff to the room and said hi to
hyper and
lagarto before making a run to King Soopers to get a few food stuff and dry ice. I also picked up some food for Lagarto and Hyper since they were busy with con stuff and needed some füd. After eating we suited up and checked out the con. We ran into
Farasi,
jaketwolf,
tenebraevulpis, and others. We decided to bring our backpacks with camelback bladders and drinking tubes. Those were live savers. The only problem was that fur would stick to the nozzle and when you go for a sip you get a mouth full of hair. Many people pointed out how often I stuffed my hand into my muzzle which made it look like I was trying to eat it. lol After a while we got out of suit and went to the bar before hitting up the hot tub. We later went to the dance in suit. good times.
Saturday was the fursuit parade. We started the day bright and early at about 11:45a and went to the Starbucks for some coffee. For some reason, people thought that the parade was going to be at 12:30. I came across
who said the parade would be at the regularly scheduled time and that whoever put out the wrong information just didn't know how to read a clock. Anyways, when the time came we got in suit and went to the headless lounge where we stood around for about thirty minutes before heading out.
was in front of us and when we left the room and were in sight he turned around and said the funniest shit to me. That is all that you'll hear from me on that. :Þ
A lot of other stuff went on. I had a Vietnam era M1 helmet that I started handing around for people to draw random things on the shell and liner. While in the dealers room I got a little creeped out by a guy that said, "He is so yiffible." That, plus me in suit, equals überuncomfortable. Luckily for me, right after he said that Cian said, "Ok baby, lets go." phewww, talk about a perfect time to give me an out. xÐ I went to the dance out of suit and was wearing my green shirt, bracer/gauntlets, and the helmet. :3 It was damn hot on the dance floor.
Sunday was pretty much the same thing. We moved stuff to the car and walked around the con a bit before going home to drop everything off. We came back for about an hour but it got to the point where Cian wanted to go home and my back was hurting more than what I wanted to deal with. So we went home early.
Special thanks to Pyndan for bringing his cooler for us to use. I learned that 11lbs of dry ice is a little much, but we didn't have to refill it with regular ice the entire time!
There are details that I am missing, and that is because I am writing this days after the con ended. If I left out names and key events then I apologize.
I can't wait for next year! :Ð

Denver/ Front Range Furs
Posted 13 years agoI have an idea for my birthday. lol, it isn't until the last weekend of December. I was thinking of a group of furs suiting down the 16th street mall. Last year I had my party at Dave and Busters, which was a blast, but was more than what some people were willing to pay. This one should be relatively cheep and pretty fun. Any thoughts?

In a clear violation of the constitution, Missouri has made a law that forces religion on others and they call it, "religious freedom." This is abhorrent and unfortunate for the children and people of the state. Millions of dollars will be wasted defending this asinine law. The children that want to learn will be handicapped by those that claim to be offended by what is being taught. There is going to be a drop in scholastic achievers in that state. What is frightening is that there are a lot of people in other states that want the exact same thing! If we don't stop this now we will end up as a backwards third world country with nukes that can strike anywhere in the world.

But it's just their belief.
Posted 13 years agoThat is the main argument people have when it comes to the Chick-fil-h8 protest. Beside the fact that the corporation is donating money to hate groups that are fighting against equality and would criminalize homosexuality if they had their way. People say things about the first amendment which ignores the aspect of religion.
Anyways, here are the Top 50 Homophobic Chick-fil-A support tweets: http://storify.com/homophobes/top-5.....k-fil-a-tweets
This is what "just a belief" leads to. If you dehumanize a group of people then you open the door to hatred which eventually leads to atrocities. This has happened time and again. Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Waste of money?!
Posted 13 years agoEvery time NASA is mentioned some people say that it is a waste of money and we should divert the money elsewhere, but how much does it actually cost compared to other things?
2012 US Budget defence: 925 Billion: http://www.usfederalbudget.us/feder.....n_12s1li1n_12#...
Mars curiosity: $2.5 Billion: http://www.spacenews.com/civil/1106.....asa-audit.html
Cost B2 Bomber: About $1 Billion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northr.....man_B-2_Spirit
Cost of wars since 2001: Up to 4 Trillion: http://costofwar.com/ AND http://costsofwar.org/
Cost of olympic games: $14.46 billion : http://professional.wsj.com/article.....;mg=reno64-wsj
Add to this that the most useful technologies that we have today came from developments made by NASA for their space program. Here is just a small list of technology spin offs: http://ipp.nasa.gov/pdf/spinoff_top_20a.pdf
With that in mind, the total sum of the NASA budget since it was activated has been $526.18 billion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budget_of_NASA The corporate bail outs enacted by Obama has been $549.4 billion. http://www.nytimes.com/packages/htm.....ecipients.html
Is it really worth cutting the most productive part of our government which will stagnate development to redirect the money as a temporary solution for a long term problem?

With that in mind, the total sum of the NASA budget since it was activated has been $526.18 billion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budget_of_NASA The corporate bail outs enacted by Obama has been $549.4 billion. http://www.nytimes.com/packages/htm.....ecipients.html
Is it really worth cutting the most productive part of our government which will stagnate development to redirect the money as a temporary solution for a long term problem?

lagarto and
hyper are going through a hard time right now. Their Great Dane, Minney, has been diagnosed with stage 4B lung cancer. Her life expectancy is less than a month. She is an awesome dog and I will miss her. I wish she had years left in her, but it isn't going to happen.http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8546042/
