Streaming stuff?
Posted 7 years agoI rarely stream. Usually because at most three people tune in when I've used Livestream.
Outside of Twitch what streams do most folks like to use that either download the video or archive it? Should I try Periscoping and broadcasting over Twitter?
Next week I'm gonna be sewing a custom bandanna (rainbow pineapples!), drawing a badge for a friend's new fursuit (Brook an adorable rough collie) and stickers for Eagle Beagle.
The projects are going towards a MRI. If you want some custom artz I'll be working on those this month. Please visit here for more info: www.furaffinity.net/view/28195385.

Working on bandanna prototypes
Posted 7 years agoIn the rare moments when I have some time I've been slowly working on bandanna prototypes.
The first one was space themed, zipper access from the top, attaches with a button, rocket patch attached, letters stitched on, and lit up (lights were attached to inserted material) and was for a mascot appearance.
The second was made for a mascot appearance, is pumpkin themed, currently no inserted pouch (plans to eventually), after pins arrived they will be attached, letters stitched on, and a quick release snap.
The next step will be having a pouch installed to have access from up top.
I'll eventually have photos up. For those of you whom might be interested in a custom character bandanna is there a theme you might like? LGBTQ+ pride? Disney stuff? Paw prints? Foxes? I've seen quite a few options.

Thinking of adding Telegram stickers to August fundraiser
Posted 7 years agoI've had inquiries for sticker art. I figured drawing/coloring would take about the same amount of time as badges. Since they would be drawn with the 4" x 5" specs in mind and digital they would be interchangeable.
If you're interested stickers/print files would be $15 per image. Examples:
Pencil/digital color(badges/stickers would not include shading):
*Example 1: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18603956

August MRI fundraiser (overage will go to Time Out Youth)
Posted 7 years agoPlease read the whole journal for info. If you have any questions please email me at jasperbluecanary [at] gmail.com. Please do not post questions in the comments.
I am presently trying to downsize on things I've collected over the years. On the upside you get a chance at some cool stuff. If any raised funds go past the cost of the MRI/transportation and/or the high end of the goal I will donate them to Time Out Youth (www.timeoutyouth.org). TOY is a local LGBTQIA+ safe space for youth in and near Charlotte, NC.
TLDR about the MRI:
* In September of 2015 I injured my right foot while mascoting.
* I was told it was a stress fracture and I'd be wearing a boot for 8 weeks.
* 8 weeks came and went and doctors were puzzled as to why my foot was not getting better. I spent around $1000 getting no answers and expensive pair of compression socks that did little to help.
* I can no longer run (I call it hobble-running if I need to move faster) and walking or standing for long periods. Sitting or using a wheelchair helps.
* I attempted to look into a MRI last year, but savings were diverted to other things needed.
* In February I re-injured my foot while stepping out of a bathtub. I learned the Lowes electric chairs are slower than me using my manual.
* Speaking to a doctor about it, we both thought it might be best to look into a MRI again.
**Goal update: $425. On August 1st I plan on posting the following for my fundraiser plans:
1. $15: I am selling discounted 5" x 4" sketched badges with flat color in a digital format (these can be printed at your leisure). If you want me to turn it into a Telegram sticker that should be possible. The sketches will feature a head shot and can either be an expression or include a speech bubble. Please keep any requests simple and G-rated. Art will either be done in pencil or pen, photographed, and colored digitally. These will be unlimited until I announce that I am closed.
2. +$15: If you want to donate additionally I will mail you a handwritten thank you with a small sketch.
3. +$30: For anyone who wants to donate beyond the discounted badge a bit more I will be happy to draw and mail a sketch to you, print and laminate a badge, and send you a handwritten thank you.

Happy Pride Month!
Posted 7 years agoMay your days be full of happiness and rainbows!
Charlotte has its week long of activities and street festival/parade in August. Fun times. I won tickets to a special thing for my boyfriend and I to enjoy this year. It involves air conditioning in the summer heat, so always a plus.

Learning who your family is
Posted 7 years agoThis year the folks on LI have been silent. A year has passed since I was called "brainwashed" for supporting people who identify as gay and asking for support of my name change. I literally removed one letter off the end if my first name (also changed my middle name, but I did not disclose this to them). Instead if apologizing they're being quiet. They don't know what LGBT stands for and their idea of a transgender person is a creepy guy in a dress. I've mailed letters, photo work, and portraits of myself in male attire and everything went in one ear and out the other.
Instead of being angry I'm thankful. Those close to me that care have shown me and I'm moving past passive-aggressive bullies.
So...despite being a responsible adult, good personal relationships and a spouse, with a career and several awards I'm still a failure to them. I honestly couldn't care what they think of me.
TLDR: I'm the proud transgender disappointment to a passive-aggressive bully and the other passive-aggressive individual who stays with him.

Postcard idea
Posted 7 years agoI'm pondering designing some postcards and larger prints featuring miniatures in exaggerated daily situations. Like posable figures gardening. I was gifted a figure of Judy Hopps and soon a Nick Wilde. If anyone would be interested in these please let me know. I can update you.

People gather at Wedgewood Church (1/28 & 1/29)
Posted 8 years agoThere was a regular Sunday service held. I was told over $6500 was raised towards the security system and roof repairs. People will be expanding the pride colors to include two black pride colors on the front doors this Saturday.
This afternoon Equality NC and several religious leaders gathered outside of the rainbow doors to speak about how Wedgewood is a sanctuary for everyone, and hate would not be tolerated.
A Facebook Live video was recorded earlier: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?st.....id=50013609338

Stopping hate and helping bring a community together
Posted 8 years agoYesterday around 4:30PM I saw several shared photos of Wedgewood Church's front doors were tagged with graffiti reading, "FAGS ARE PEDOFHiLES." With one of the locks and door handles the last message read as "PiEDOFiHiLESi." I saw that and said, "Nope," showed the photos to my partner, and said I was heading out to Lowes.
I opted for some what matching four cans of spray paint, back tracked to get my step ladder because I'm short, and headed over to the church. The head of the choir, some choir members, and others there for bible study were present.
There's always an officer present while the church has a gathering. I introduced myself and then asked, "Is it okay if I start painting over the graffiti? Did you need to take photos?" "Sure go ahead and we already took pictures."
I started around 5PM, took a break around 7PM, and finished masking and blocking everything out by 8PM. Between that time a concerned Mom, a mother to be, and someone in the area from California to stop by to check on what was happening. A few people helped me mask, and the person from CA helped hold up a light so I could see better. I showed her around inside the church after I finished up.
Today I was woken up around 7:50AM by what sounded like an eight year old trying to do prank calls with a private number. By 9:30AM I gave up on trying to go back to sleep and continued touch up spray painting around 10:30AM. Met a local officer who was checking the area and I put him in touch with Chris Ayers. He gave me his card and headed out not too much later.
In order to mask more sections I needed to let the paint set, ran errands (botanical store, Harris Teeter, Michael's, and a haircut, and came by later. A local in the neighborhood walked by and liked that I was covering up the graffiti, but the rainbow doors were a target. He's an older fellow and was meaning well. Chris wants the church to be visible to everyone and makes that an important statement.
I arrived around 3:50PM, set up my paints, and a cameraman from WCCB came by. He asked if I minded being recorded, which I have no problem about it and we did not want to tolerate the vandalism.
Chris came by later and by 6:30PM I had peeled the last of the tape. While Chris was there he recorded a Facebook live video. You can see it here: https://www.facebook.com/christophe.....0913299324694/

Retiring as an admin/planner from CF
Posted 8 years agoTLDR: I freelance a lot. Half of the time I'm not even in the same state. My schedule is not my own and I can't plan anything more than a week or two if I'm lucky. Even then it changes. The little free time I have I tend to just want to be at home with my partner and my garden.
Between October I have been to five states, plus DC and had to pre-bag up my clothes. I get home, wash stuff, swap out what's in my luggage, and then work on cleaning the house. Maybe watch Youtube and garden. That's been my life lately.
A bunch of my savings lately went into replacing some work equipment, making sure travel expenses, like gas are covered, and however much my car repair is setting me back.
Posted to the Charlotte Furs Facebook and Meetup accounts (Meetup's announcement included links to the Facebook, Furaffinity, and Telegram groups):
Greetings everyone. Sorry for being so quiet lately. Project work and having to travel out of state has been keeping me busy.
When I moved to Charlotte in October 2010, my partner Robert was the only person I knew. Starting in spring 2011, after noticing that a lot of NC furry groups were spread out I began doing what I could to encourage groups here in Charlotte. I put together an account on FurAffinity, joined the Facebook group Devin started, and set up a Meetup group. It’s been nice getting to meet so many people over the years and to work on creating programming with such a great community. Thank you Hitoru, Reverb, Varment, and Surx for currently taking on admin roles and Devin, Hawthorne, and Azure prior.
Today I’m announcing my retirement from these groups. It’s getting harder to predict when I will be available. The Meetup group will remain operational through January; if anyone wishes to continue it, please contact me via Facebook or Meetup prior to February 1st. All of the images from Meetup have been archived on the Charlotte Furs Furaffinity account.

Answered questions, helped people with lost/found items and physically couldn't log anything (my login didn't work), Satan's Habitrail, comedy shows + booze + awesome talented, cool GOHs, seeing people I only see once a year, people assume I'm on HRT/getting my pronouns wrong/adding letters to my name/not letting me out of an elevator when I'm a wheelchair/making comments about me in a wheelchair (separate incidents)...I need FAQ cards to give out, fixed someone's body suit's torn knee seam said hi to folks in Artist Alley (one was rude post-event) and in the Dealer's Room, held a chihuahua, costumed once for 2.5 hours and got portraits, played with a dog-veteran two people I see a few times a year, memorial service, donated two boxes to If It Fits It Sits, Shamus is still an awesome roomie + his two nice MI-localish buddies, was not around for guy bringing distressed animal into the event and guy previously banned from the event coming back and ended up getting arrested outside of the venue (both situations were dealt with / any comments about them will be removed), $85Kandthensome raised for the charity!!!, ate too much at the staff dinner, wheelchair questions, sickpeoplewenttotheconanyway.
That was my weekend. I donated to the charity and had ZERO ROOM in my luggage to buy anything. I got creative with my con swag, including a toy ball someone left in front of my hotel door. I barely fit a toy ball in my luggage. Giving it to my neighbor for their pup.

Posted 8 years agoHeading to MFF in the morning. Working the event throughout the weekend. If you're going have fun. If you're not stay warm and also do something fun.
Depending on mobility I'll see how going from the hotel to the convention center goes. Taking the tunnel with a wheelchair got awkward with the inclines. Going to see how going through the ground level entrance works out.
If you're attending, the Dealer's Room and Artist Alley will be in the convention center. The fursuit menagerie photo schedule is also up. I'll be working during it.
Enjoying that I get to go to bed at a decent hour. Not enjoying having to get up with an alarm. Usually the sun wakes me or my allergies.
Wondering what in the garden's gonna be alive when I get back. Hard to study some of the plants when I'm away.

Mostly sticking around the Carolinas next year
Posted 8 years agoTo help with savings I will be cutting back on events outside of my area next year, with the exception of New York Comic Con (I'm usually flown up and comp'd a pass). This past June and August I've had to cancel two events I would've staffed/volunteer-worked. I do not get paid, nor does anyone else to volunteer-work fan run events, so career work takes priority. I've also resigned from a few fan-run events recently due to various reasons. After 2017 I will not be staffing events I have not worked prior.
I plan in the next few months to research someone who hopefully does accept my insurance (or I'll just save out of pocket) to give me answers as to what is wrong with my right foot. I've already lost $1K in either wrong answers or no answers. Due to someone in 2015 misdiagnosing it as a "stress fracture" I could not get assistance with a placement agency for office work. Instead I am freelancing coloring comics, fixing costumes, public speaking, portraits/post production, and any gigs that I come across. In good news it's stable at the moment, but that can change at any point.
My expenses are low, which helps. Student loans were paid off this year and I own my car outright.
On a separate note for those who complain that they can't afford a convention or fursuit, honestly please stop. Live within your means. There are ways to save. Attending a geek culture event is a luxury, not a right. Here's a few suggestions:
*Open a savings account.
*Budget for food/shopping and put aside $10/$20 per pay check (or a percentage).
*Roommates.
*Stay off-site (I've seen too many people complain they won't go if they can't get into the event hotel).
*Carpool.
*If you craft/draw/write/record, stay off site.
*With enough time ahead of time you can get car rentals for $8/day (Enterprise is good and won't charge you to add a second driver).
*Check if the venue's hotel has free shuttle service.
*Stay by a friend nearby if possible.
You do not need a costume to attend a convention. If this is what is preventing you from having a good time you really need to rethink priorities. This is something I've also seen too often with people complaining about not being able to go. Just go if it's within your means to.

Westworld: The Experience (New York Comic Con)
Posted 8 years agoPhotos: https://www.facebook.com/pg/bluecan.....54158141510103
As part of a promotional event for HBO's Westworld during New York Comic Convention 2017 (October 5-8). Clues were given via the WestworldHBO Twitter account, with the exception of Sunday. Each day a new sign up location with given around 8AM.
The event had limited free admission and was an interactive experience similar to a LARP (live action role playing). Participants ("newcomers" in the show) were asked to come inside for their appointment, check in with a host at the front end desk, and entered a clean-cut room of straight angles and glowing lights surrounded by clothing, mannequins, a table featuring various firearms and knives similar to ones from the show, and a large screen. We were instructed to put our phones away, and a glitching video of the park (both as a friendly setting and of death and destruction) with clips of Season 1 and the upcoming Season 2). Once the video had ended we could resume talking to each other, looking around, and interacting with the front end hosts in white clothing.
Our names were called individually to be evaluated and suggested a role as a black or a white hat. Having tried out the experience prior I changed up my responses, which caused the Delos agent to pause and consider her responses. When asked to look at my hand and mark a finger that I would get rid of if I had to (I'm ambidextrous), I chose a black hat response marking my left ring finger saying, "I have no ties." I was asked if I was deaf and suddenly got my sense of hearing back what would first come to mind. My original response was that I have participial hearing lost and I would expect "enunciation." With the new response it was "distinction." "You can hear an impression of your mother, but it is never the same as hearing the real thing. What you have in your mind may not be what you actual expect. This was a play off of an actor playing Shaggy from the Scooby Doo series, where Casey Casem liked hearing his version, but the actor didn't feel he was 100% like the original. The final question I was asked, "Two men enter a bar and shoot people around you. They offer you a gun. What do you do? Join them, do nothing, or fight them." As a white hat you'd fight them or try to infiltrate their gang. For my second response I said, "I'd join them. If things don't go well I'd turn on them."
After the group had finished choosing their hat everyone was escorted into a waiting area with mounted head castings and then entered an elevator to be transported to Westworld.
The elevator sounded like someone pulling on a chain. Upon arriving at the Westworld location you entered Sweetwater's Mariposa Saloon. Everyone was greeted by several hosts, which included ladies of the house, a male bartender, and a couple of female bartenders. Hosts interacted with their new guests and drinks were served, which included a "sherry punch" in a small glass, "Blue Blazer" with a squeeze of a small orange slice and displayed with a small orange peel over a large cube of ice, and a "milk punch" over crushed ice. Everything was well made.
The player piano played various songs featured in the show. As the scroll rotated periodically a red strain could be seen. When asking a host if she noticed her response was, "It doesn't look like anything to me." Glancing back it was gone, "Ah, I was probably nothing."
One lady of the saloon mentioned to me, "You look familiar. Have we met?" "It's possible. I'm just passing through, but I do frequent the establishment when I'm in the area. Maybe we've had the pleasure. I have had my portrait drawn a few times. You may have seen it around. They've been printed...on paper." She paused and then understood what I was hinting at.
The interaction ended when a series of bulbs above the bar flashed a deep orange color, followed by a low buzzing alarm. A guest was having their photo taken by a host holding his phone by the player piano posing with two female hosts just as everyone from the saloon froze in place. I picked up the fellow guest's phone who was unable to get his photo and handed him his phone. Two men wearing black clothing and tactical gear came in to announce we had to leave and there was a malfunction in the park. We were ushered into a small elevator playing a video displaying an announcement to not interact with any hosts and to relocation.
We exited the elevator and thanked the security team for keeping us safe, The hallway lead to outside and we got to keep our hats (there was a Westworld logo inside).
Overall it was a great experience and outdid last year's virtual reality simulator.

Trying to get a hold of Brutus/Wayah and ArktosBear
Posted 8 years agoI'm in the process of working on a video project with Romeo Rabbit and I'm trying to get in touch with Brutus D. Bernard / Wayah and ArktosBear.
If you're able to help either reply below or send a message. Thanks.

Does anyone know anyone involved with Anthro Northwest?
Posted 8 years agoA friend mentioned she's a dealer there and I hadn't heard of the event prior. Checking out the website the panels look nice, lots of folks I saw listed are interesting, and I hope the event goes well.
Cancelling Megaplex plans
Posted 8 years agoDue to work obligations that Dave and I both have with two publishers I had to make the decision to cancel doing photography coverage at Megaplex. We both would have been very stressed and not very happy during the event. My roommate said he would be okay and I will be canceling the room. I emailed people I had previously been in communication with, but no word from all three of them.
On the upside money I was budgeting can get allocated elsewhere and I can head to NYC earlier (anniversary/hanging out with Dave, work and hanging out with folks involved with the same publisher, seeing They Might Be Giants). Part of my expenses includes replacing my slowly dying phone and figuring out where to get my foot looked at to hopefully get answers (even with insurance visits can cost between $100-$200).
