Art Prizes & Tournament Finale Next Month

Sorry for keeping you out of the loop for so long. We had a fantastic tournament and then suddenly a big break before the finale. It's somewhat anti-climatic and makes the finale feel de-attached from the tournament itself.
Unfortunately I'm going to postpone the finale until next month. My grandfather has been hospitalized with spots on the heart and he already has bone cancer, so I've been spending a lot of time with my grandparents in addition to my own running medical treatments.
But the art prizes are still in the works! I'll try and get them all done in early August and then we'll see the big grand prize.

- You still have until Thursday the 23th to enter the Comment Writing Contest and earn Tournament Points. Then, the final leaderboard will be posted and the winners of the contest will receive a note from me to receive their art prizes!
- Tank and Jeremy have cast their last match and have been put up for adoption, with a "Your Character Here" picture included! Click here to see the auction.
- All of the censored champion art has been uncensored! Refresh the folder if you're not seeing them.
When I've finished drawing the art prizes, the finale will be posted with Onodera and all his new trophies!

Slight Delay @ Comment Writing Contest & Next Journal
Posted 9 years agoHey guys, as I've been busy most of the day the contest results for Tio VS Onodera will first be selected tomorrow morning. Entries posted before then will still be counted!
Arenas will continue to have new effects
Posted 9 years agoAfter a lot of thought and consideration on the criticism that some champion abilities are just too unbalanced and the matches will become too predictable, rather than "nerfing" abilities and punishing contestants for their well-thought choices, each match will continue to have a unique arena effect that can swing the tide of battle in an unexpected way. However, each arena will still have a theme with their effect:
- The Boxing Ring will continue to focus on "sustained damage."
- The Castle Courtyard will continue to focus on "an unexpected change."
- The Science Laboratory will continue to focus on "UNLIMITED POOO- abilities"
As always, I will stay objective and just try to come up with some crazy fun ideas for your combat analysis.
This is just a quick note before I go to work and my doctor's appointment afterwards. The next match will probably first be up in 4-6 hours.

Mistakes and Errors
If you notice any mistakes in the match picture or description, like an ability costing a wrong amount of mana, please do not hesitate to send me a note! I have to read over 200 comments per match and there's a lot of information to process, so sometimes I make a mistake and the faster I can correct it the better.
Chamber Description

Rule Change @ Comment Writing Contests
Posted 9 years agoAt the end of every match in Draco's Tournament, winners for the Comment Writing Contest are picked. But as Damaratus pointed out, the differences in time zone can make it a little hard to post your comment writing entry in time. As such, the winners will now first be picked the day after---giving you an additional 24 hours to post your entry. You should still try to post it on the day of the match's end, but at least you shouldn't get caught off-guard anymore.

To keep you guys up to date, here's the progress I've made so far on the event and when you can expect to see the event start.
Champion Artwork: 100% done
Villain Artwork: 80% done
Arena (background) Artwork: 33% done
UI & Layout Artwork: 0% done
Combat System & Ability Design: 20% done
- The event should be ready to begin by the end of the month.
- When the time comes, I will send private messages out to every champion owner for them to pick abilities and stats as well as an opportunity to include a short character description.
- More information on the contests will come when all the artwork is done.
- You will be able to earn Tournament points by commenting on the fights.
- Tournament points will earn you artwork of your character in the event.
- There will be different ways to earn tournament points.
- The fights will still be primarily decided by votes.
- Whoever has an advantage with the combat system will get a 25% bonus to their votes.
- Talented writers will be able to earn the champion bonuses as well.
- There will be a "tournament page" again where you can look up the story, the champions and their artwork, abilities and arenas, etc.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please feel free to ask them in this journal.

Busy this week
Posted 9 years agoSorry everyone, a whole lot of things came up this week and I haven't had time to sit down and draw yet! I should have time again this weekend to work on the next champion, but this probably kicks the start of the tournament to May instead of April. Just wanted to keep you guys informed, the tournament hasn't been forgotten! =)

Voice Acting?
Posted 10 years agoI'm working on a big visual novel game (After School style) after a friend recommended me TyranoBuilder. Having been very inspired by this video, I would like to do a short similar introduction when you launch the game.
Unfortunately, my only means of recording is my headset, which is nowhere near the quality of something anyone would listen to. Rather than buying an expensive microphone, I was hoping to enlist the aid of some voice acting. Does anyone know a good way to get such a job done, or would offer me their services?
The script I'm looking for to read follows,
"Hear now, this story. There once were three boys born all on the same day. Together they grew, a friendship forged both true and strong, their lives forever connected. Yet a trial would test their mettle, for all boys must become men.
Three predators they would have to pass, the wolf - instinctive and dominant, the hawk - keen and prideful, the viper - devious and toxic. Every day the boys battled the pack, only to become the prey. Still the day awaits, when the hunters would become the hunted."
I'm not looking for a Hollywood talent, just someone who can make it sound entertaining without all the breathing and saliva sounds my recordings yielded. Anyone know any worthwhile sites for a job like this or how to go about it?

Released From Hospital & Slowly Recovering

Three weeks ago, I suffered a severe case of Pancreatitis and was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment. After 17 long days spent in the hospital bed with intravenous therapy of fluids and antibiotics, I've finally become stable enough to be released and returned home.
Unfortunately, the road to recovery is not yet complete. My body is still weak and fatigued, slowly regaining its former strength. Living alone has suddenly become tasking and difficult with a limited pool of energy, frequently suffering dizziness, muscle soreness, lack of appetite and sleep disorder.
I want to thank all of you for your well wishes during my time of illness. Hopefully it won't be long before I'm back to my old creative self. Until then I will be resting and taking it slow.

Of Disease and Death
Posted 10 years agoGrowing up, one of the ways I dealt with hardships was telling myself, "You'll live." A simple but fundamental truth. No matter how hard, painful or scary the experience was, I would survive. Things like going through a hard day with little sleep, walking through a dark spooky forest at night or having to endure a long boring lecture.
So you can imagine how terrifying it was when the day came where I might not have survived. When I arrived at the hospital, I was dying. Not the immediate kind of threat, but if I didn't get treatment and soon that would have been it for me.
It started on the 16th with a growing stomach pain. After sending my visiting friend home, I took a hot shower to relieve the pain where I proceeded to vomit intensively. I barfed about 9 times over the day, and the pain grew so much I couldn't even lie down.
Time felt like it was endless, every second spent in pain unable to focus or concentrate on anything. Thinking it was food poisoning, I staid at home to ride it out. After 2 days of no sleep and constant pain, I made an emergency appointment with my Doctor and bought a Taxi, being far too weak to even walk now.
My doctor was unable to determine what exactly was wrong, but saw enough: my vitals were dropping dangerously low. She ordered an ambulance and had me admitted within the hour.
I remember the storm of doctors around me after I was carried inside. It was like being on an episode of Grey's Anatomy, only it was real. It was at this point I realized how serious it was. They rushed all kinds of tests to determine their plan of action while I got high on the morphine they fed me to reduce my pain.
They discovered I had Pancreatitis and Pheunomia with blood poisoning. For anyone unaware of these diseases (including myself) the former is extremely painful while the latter makes breathing difficult.
The first couple of nights at the hospital was the most difficult, as the pain was still skyhigh. They hooked my veins up with catheters to feed me liquid and medicine straight into the bloodstream, and a tube deep up my urethra to pee straight from my bladder with an oxygen mask to help my breathing.
So far I have been admitted for 11 days. Recovery has been slow, but the pain have finally started letting up. It's still uncertain how long I need to be in here, but I look forward to returning to my normal life.

They discovered I had Pancreatitis and Pheunomia with blood poisoning. For anyone unaware of these diseases (including myself) the former is extremely painful while the latter makes breathing difficult.
The first couple of nights at the hospital was the most difficult, as the pain was still skyhigh. They hooked my veins up with catheters to feed me liquid and medicine straight into the bloodstream, and a tube deep up my urethra to pee straight from my bladder with an oxygen mask to help my breathing.
So far I have been admitted for 11 days. Recovery has been slow, but the pain have finally started letting up. It's still uncertain how long I need to be in here, but I look forward to returning to my normal life.

Posted 10 years agoI've been unable to respond to any messages over the the last week due to being hospitalized under aerious circumatances (which I cannot explain typing on a phone). I will be released in a wrek or two.
