Calling all furry musicians!
Posted 9 years agoJust got a panel assigned for Fangcon this year that will be an open jam session. This will be a perfect opportunity for any fur who wants to play but doesn't feel like they're quite ready for prime time or just too shy to do a show. Bring your instruments, equipment and whatever you need and join us for a fun time to play some music and learn from each other. Everyone from beginner to pro is welcome. I'll provide more information later or feel free to ask any questions you may have. Please spread the word so anyone interested will know to bring what they need.
Following Fangcon wherever it goes
Posted 9 years agoSo I'm sure many of you have heard, after many attempts to find a hotel at the right price on the right dates in Knoxville and other Tennessee cities, Fangcon will be held in Birmingham, AL this year. As with any move it's inconvenient for some and great for others. For me, it only adds an hour or so to the drive. I would loved for it to still be in Knoxville but on the other hand hopefully I'll get to see some of the awesome Alabama furs I haven't seen in a while as well as meet new furry friends.
In other news, we will also be attending MFM this year for the first time. That's a much longer drive from here but I think it will be worth it.

The FangCon Circus is almost here!
Posted 12 years agoWow I can't believe FangCon is almost here. It seems like it's been so long since last year, yet suddenly seems like it's coming up so quickly. I'm so looking forward to going this year and can't wait to see friends I don't see often enough and making new ones. See you at the circus!
My, how things change
Posted 12 years ago One year ago, June 17'th 2012 was Father's Day. Not just any Father's Day, it was the first since my dad lost his long battle with prostate cancer. I didn't feel like talking to my friends or family. I didn't feel like being around anyone. I recognized the signs of depression once again rearing it's ugly head. I logged on Second Life for a while to see who was on. That was the one place I could usually relax and forget the troubles of real life for a few minutes. Only a couple of friends were on and neither of them were talking, either busy or afk. I took a look at the online members of TNFurs and saw a couple I had seen post on the forums but didn't know. I sent friend request to them and was just about to log off and try to keep my mind from going to that dark place I'd been too many times before.
Just as I was about to log off, one of the friend request was accepted and he sent me an IM. We started talking and before I knew it I was having a very nice conversation with him. We ended up talking for a few hours and started sharing some personal information, something I NEVER do with someone I just met online. Well, things went very well from there and we started discussing a relationship. I tried and tried to convince him I was too old for a guy his age. He kept telling me age is just a number and if it didn't matter to him, why should it matter to me? Things progressed very quickly and two weeks later we met in person for the first time. After that weekend together we never wanted to be apart again. Two weeks later I went back to where he lived and this time when I came home, he was with me.
He's been with me ever since and it has been the most wonderful year of my life. There have been many hard things to face during the past year, things I'm not sure I could have made it through withing him by my side. Life's troubles, no matter how hard, are so much easier to handle knowing he's always here for me, here with me. I'm so happy and lucky to have him in my life and to know he'll be with me for the rest of my days.
Never give up. Just at one of the lowest parts of my life, the best thing I've ever known came along. We both believe my dad had a hand in guiding us together. We are both just what the other needs. I look forward to many, many more incredible years with my loving husband.
I love you Takashi.

Be on the lookout-friend's stolen fursuit
Posted 12 years agoPlease take a moment to read this journal http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:32572868 and look at the picture linked there. Someone broke in her car and stole her fursuit. Most of you know either how hard it is to make a fursuit or expensive to buy one. Not only that, it's just such a personal thing to have stolen. Please report any sightings or any tips to find the suit to her, me, the police, anyone that can help bring it back where it belongs. Thanks.
Look twice, save a life.
Posted 13 years agoI'm sure most of you have seen these words on bumper stickers and billboards here and there. I thought I'd share a very personal story with you to show just how important this can actually be.
The last weekend of November 2010, my youngest nephew, Barrett, was riding home on a motorcycle. It was a nice sunny Sunday and he had just been to visit his girlfriend. Coming the opposite direction was a couple in a pickup looking for a relative's house. They had just moved to the mountain where we live and while they knew basically where the relatives lived, they weren't sure of the exact house. The couple in the pickup thought they might have had the right house then decided it was the next one. They started to go on past the first one when the driver of the truck recognized the relative's car in the driveway. At the last second he did a quick turn towards the driveway. He had checked traffic when he was about to turn in at first, but didn't look again after deciding to go to the next house then realizing the first one was the correct one after all. Unfortunately in that short period of time Barrett had come over the crest of a small hill and the driver of the pickup turned left directly in front of him. Barrett hit the truck just behind the passenger side front tire. It wasn't a terribly hard impact, but he went chest first into the A pillar, stopping his heart.
He didn't have any broken bones and no injuries that would have been life threatening, however it was twenty-six minutes until paramedics arrived and were able to get his heart restarted. Unfortunately he was left with severe brain damage from the lack of blood flow for so long. He was in a coma for two weeks and not expected to ever wake up. He fought hard and proved the doctors wrong though and regained consciousness. He eventually recovered to the point of being able to breathe on his own and eat real food and was moved to a nursing home. With over a year of therapy he got to the point of being able to talk and have some movement of his arms and legs although with very limited control. His personality started to return and he was finally beginning to smile again almost two years after the wreck. He would occasionally have seizures due to the brain damage and was on medication to limit them as well as possible.
Unfortunately, he had a very severe seizure and at the 2:00 AM hourly bed check on January 12'th at the nursing home where he was living, he was found without a pulse, unconscious and unresponsive. He was already turning blue and cool to the touch. Somehow they were able to revive him and get him to the hospital. After several hours in the emergency room he was taken to ICU. The neurologist said we should be prepared for the worst and that they would be monitoring his brain closely to see if any more damage had been done. He was completely unresponsive and on full life support. The first brain scan showed the vast majority of his brain no longer had any activity at all. Only an area about the size of a quarter was still working, and that part is what's generally considered to control involuntary things such as heart and lungs. Further scans and test showed that the brain activity was diminishing and his organs were all shutting down. A panel of doctors all agreed that short of a miracle there was zero chance of recovery. The decision was made that the best thing to be done for him was to discontinue life support. He passed away at 12:45 this morning. He was twenty-two years old.
Every vehicle has blind spots. Most drivers are aware of this. What many don't think of is just how little it takes to block the view of a motorcycle. If the driver of that pickup had taken a fraction of a second to look again, he might have seen Barrett coming and none of this would have ever happened. I'm not saying this to place blame on the other driver, but to point out just how fast situations on the roadways can change and how little effort it takes to simply take one more quick look. The pickup driver said the number one most common phrase uttered after a car vs. motorcycle wreck. "I never saw him."
As a motorcyclist who got my first motorcycle at the age of six and currently owns four, I'm well aware of the plain fact that when I'm on a motorcycle I'm generally more vulnerable than when surrounded by several thousand pounds of steel. I'm also aware of just how easy it is to overlook something as small as a motorcycle or bicycle. Even though I know about blind spots and how to position myself to see around them as best I can, I've still overlooked motorcycles the first time I checked. It was looking twice on several occasions that kept me from being another one who "never saw them." One recent incident I never encountered before last week and would like to share happened of all things, on the way home from the hospital one night. It was after dark and I had stopped at a stop sign. I looked to my left and saw headlights of a single vehicle approaching a few hundred yards away. I looked to my right and saw nothing. I knew the vehicle approaching from my left was plenty far enough away that I could easily proceed to pull out and turn left onto the two lane road they were on. As I was about to pull out I quickly looked left again just as a motorcycle was passing by. Apparently the single headlight of the much closer motorcycle had lined up in such a way with the headlights of the other vehicle that it appeared to be only that one vehicle far away. Once again, looking twice possibly saved a life.
I ask all of you who drive to take that extra fraction of a second to take that second look that could save someone's life. Do it in memory of Barrett. Do it so that no family has to go through the pain of loosing someone they love this way. Do it so you don't have to live with the guilt of being another statistic who "never saw them."
Thanks for taking time to read this and for taking a second look.

Posted 13 years agoNever say never
Posted 13 years agoThe day I never thought I would see is almost here. I never thought I'd want to be married or dreamed it would ever happen. Well, as often happens, someone came along that changed my views on marriage. Someone I want to spend the rest of my life with and want to declare it to the world. At FangCon this year, on Saturday October 27'th at 10:00 AM in the Grand Ballroom, my mate
icebluekips and I will officially become one as we enter into wedlock. The wedding will be announced on the schedule as well as in the con book and is open to all of you, our extended furry family. It will be an informal ceremony so come however you're comfortable. Feel free to wear your fursuit if you have one. Come witness the joining of our lives and celebrate our happiness together.

Posted 13 years agoWell, RCFM has come and gone. I'm left with a bit of PCD (post con depression) and I'm already seriously missing some furiends I don't get to see nearly as much as I'd like to. If you came through registration early Friday I was the guy who folded your con schedule. After that I was most likely the one who printed your badge. It was great meeting everyone, even those who I only got to say hi to as you passed through registration.
Now it's time for me to get going all out preparing for FangCon. That's the only other con I'll be attending this year and we're working hard to make sure it's a great one! If you're interested in hosting a panel, volunteering, performing or anything else hit us up at www.fangcon.org or even drop me a note here. There's a forums section on the website so be sure to register for that as well. We welcome all suggestions and still have some time before the full schedule is set in stone.

RCFM 2012
Posted 13 years agoSo far RCFM 2012 has been a lot of fun for me. First, Snappy finished my fursuit and brought it to me at the con. I absolutely LOVE it. I'll put up some pictures soon. I've been working with Snappy in registration printing everyones badges. It's been a nice experience getting to meet everyone. We got off to a slow start because the hotel didn't have the registration room ready until about minutes before registration was supposed to open. After rushing like crazy to get everything into the room and set up we finally opened registration an hour late. Everyone, and I mean everyone seemed to be in a good mood and pleasant even after standing in line for so long. If you were one who had to wait, thanks for being patient and remaining calm.
Panda brought pizza Thursday night before the con opened and when Snap came to the room to join us he walked in wearing my new fursuit. I'm impressed and amazed by how incredible his fursuits are. Each one he makes is better than the last. When he walked in I couldn't help but jump up and give "myself" a hug. Tonight once we finally closed down registration I suited up for what I planned to be a short walk to familiarize myself with wearing a fursuit. About an hour and a half and many, many hugs and pictures later Cain and I made it back to the room. I'm looking forward to doing it again tomorrow.

My first fursuit!
Posted 13 years agoAfter lots of consideration and searching and saving and selling a car, I'm finally getting a fursuit! I'm so excited. A couple of years ago someone asked if I had a fursuit and I told them no and didn't think I'd ever want one. Going to my first con last year was all it took. I was hooked and started really wanting to have my own fursuit but never thought it would actually happen. I'll add more information later. I sent the deposit today and I'm just so happy about it I wanted to share the joy. Group huggles!
