i'm home from confuzzled... actually, i've been home for almost a day now but i've slept most of it because post con exhaustion is always a thing. i'm so sad it's over- it was the best confuzzled yet! and next year's theme was revealed, which is video games, so it's going to be a whooooole lot easier to co-ordinate a room sign and badges yay.

i'm still tired so lemme give you a rundown of my highlights from this year:

♦ aki bringing a knockoff beyblade stadium and a bunch of cheap beyblades. much ripping happened then we did shots out the stadium on the last night. legend.

♦ having a really nice, bright, comfy hotel room overlooking the lake.

♦ inflatables panel! i got to see a bunch of really cool inflatables. my favourite was the giant wolf. hopefully next year the pool party will happen and i'll have something to bring along.

♦ little scribbles! i drew a picture and gem gave me a sticker and some transfer tattoos for being a good cub.

♦ suiting for the first time ever! ab let me borrow meeko for the con, and i got some really lovely pictures which i'll be uploading later. i never thought i'd enjoy suiting so much- hopefully i'll have a brambles partial ready to go for next year.

♦ the sponsor pack- the first year i went the goodies were okay, nothing massively special, but this year wasn't just nice stuff but also stuff i'll get good use out of.

♦ artists alley. good for creativity and for making new friends!

♦ seeing old friends and making new ones. this is always the best bit without a doubt.

also because the uk was on the highest level of terror threat alert the nec were checking bags, and i had an interesting experience with a security guard searching my case full of nsfw stuff and asking why so much fetish gear was coming through. i told him, and i don't think he was expecting the reply. it wasn't invasive or anything, i think he was just genuinely curious and i don't mind telling people as long as they're respectful about it. plus i guess what i had was tame compared to other stuff.

confuzzled really is my favourite con and it just keeps getting better. i'm so excited for 2018's outing and i'm already getting plans into motion for it. if things go to plan, i should be running an event and entering the fursuit dance competition.

i'm back from bristol! well. i got back late last night and basically just fell into bed and went to sleep because it was a long day of travelling and a very busy airport. also we got caught in traffic on the way there and i thought i only had ten minutes to make it to my gate, but then the plane got delayed because it was late leaving reykjavik and all that good stuff.

just fur the weekend was awesome, i had an amazing time. got to meet some friends for the first time irl, and caught up with some old ones. i really didn't want to leave them behind- it sucks living in the middle of scotland when all your friends are in the middle and south of england. gman was the best roommate i could've asked for, and mel was amazing for letting me stay with her before and after the con.

next up is confuzzled in just over a month! smith's decided he's coming last minute too, so we just sorted out his registration over the weekend. gonna be gooooood!

it's that time of year agaaaaain! well, almost. just fur the weekend is this weekend. however, travelling over easter weekend is expensive so i'm flying down to bristol tonight and spending a couple days with friends before heading to the con on friday.

pretty nervous because i've never flown alone before and i don't travel far alone very often nowadays so it's a big deal but eh, won't get to go to the con otherwise so i've just got to deal with it.

i'm so, so, so pleased to hear that anthrocon finally cancelled 2_gryphon's show.

if you don't know who 2_gryphon is, here's an example of some of his tweets. this pretty much makes up the content of his shows. transphobia, misogyny and racism are his favourite targets, and a lot of his routine is regurgitating jokes from 4chan circa mid-00s. this isn't anything new; he's been doing this for years. he's been very sympathetic with "alt furry" recently, which is just neo-nazi furries. so you know, charming stuff!

now he's throwing a tantrum all over facebook. pretty ironic considering his recent platform has been "LOL TRIGGERED KEK SAFE SPACES R HUGBOXES" and attacking fandom members for asking for more inclusivity at events. pretty good to see it happening considering the huge steps backwards a lot of the world has taken in other aspects.

you don't have to be okay with people taking shots at who you are and what you've been through. you should never have to feel unwelcome in your hobbies. there's repercussions for being an asshole- sometimes they take a while, but they happen.

happy 2017 everyone! hopefully this year'll be at least a bit better than the last. i hope everyone's doing well!

also, my friend finally decided to get involved with the fandom so you should go add him over at  yehaws- he's great and his 'sona is really cute.

it's been a long, long fortnight and a half. i haven't been this exhausted since i was pulling 40+ hour weeks at my old job, which was months ago. it feels like i've barely had any time to rest, let alone dedicate to the projects or etsy store i'm putting together. mostly i've been out first thing in the morning and not getting home until 9/10 at night which isn't good when you already have chronic fatigue. but stuff's been going down.

first off i got a new job! yay! it's only temporary but it should boost my savings up enough to keep me going for a bit until i find something permanent. in the meantime i'm just going to enjoy being back at a place i like without any obligations looming over me. do my work and when my shift's over i get to go home and relax. simple as that. plus i'm only working three days a week so it gives me time to motivate myself and get cracking on with the other things i've been meaning to do but didn't have the time or money.

second of all, i quit the training course thing. my lecturers seemed to take an instant dislike to me, kept mocking my appearance in front of the rest of the class and talked to me like i was a particularly stupid child.

so that's what's been going on. come friday i'll be paying my just fur the weekend registration and starting to save so i'm ready for when confuzzled's opens. for the first time in my life i'm not sticking to a rigid plan. it's scary but it's good; we'll see where it takes me over the next year.

i'm tired of seeing this one-sided excuse of a debate happen. i'm not an artist, i'm a commissioner, so if you're not going to listen to the people who produce the majority of the content for this fandom then maybe you'll listen to me, one of the people who buys said content.

my artistic talent is very rudimentary at best. i can't produce the art i want of my characters and i won't be able to for the foreseeable future- any time i spend on art is purely a hobby. some time for me to relax and do stuff for myself. instead, i commission artists to make what i want. these are people who've spent hours of their time and loads of money honing their skills, learning and improving, so they can create those scenes i want of my character. they've spent money on materials, on classes, on tools for their craft. it's a long process. it's tiring and a lot of effort goes into art. it's a job, and while a lot of them are also part of the fandom they're still working. this is why artists deserve to be paid. most of them end up working for below minimum wage too simply because people aren't willing to pay or acknowledge it's a job.

another issue is people trying to befriend artists for free art, or having artist friends and doing the same. i have a lot of talented friends, and i pay the prices they ask. as their friend i understand this is how they make their living or extra cash so they get to do nice things. sometimes they're generous and will do me a free doodle or add in something for free when i commission them. this is the equivalent of going into a small shop and them giving you a free item; it's not something to be expected. it's disrespectful and devalues their work if you expect it. i'm not their friend for freebies; i'm friends because i love them. i want to see them paid for the work they do.

tl;dr nobody owes you art, art is a luxury item produced by people who see little profit, respect the people creating the fandom's content.

i've not been online much the past few days because of important rl stuff but i've got a relaxing day today- and i just found out furvilla finally opened!

this was not a senseless attack, this is what homophobia, biphobia and transphobia do. they kill. it causes homelessness, suicide, self-harm, rape, assault, violence and death. the media is trying to play it up as a senseless attack by islam, when it's a homophobic attack by a non-religious individual.

going to a vigil tonight in the city centre then going to another tomorrow night with friends nearby. right now it's a time for the lgbtq+ community to put aside petty squabbling and band together against cis & het society that deems us deserving of death. if you can go to something similar then i urge you to.

it feels like confuzzled was an eternity ago, when actually i only got back home on wednesday. due to my inability to understand dates, it turns out i head off for download- which is a huge five-day rock festival in england- on wednesday. not a week on wednesday like i previously thought. oops.

i'm excited though, if a little nervous! this is going to be my first big festival- when i went to festivals previously i was staff and they were all pretty small. it's going to be good not having any responsibilities at a festival too. my friends and i are staying on the quiet campsite... but we'll see how quiet it really is come friday night when everyone's got there and set up camp.

finally got back home this evening and the post-con sadness has kicked in fully. i never got this after anime or comic conventions, but after furry cons i find myself sinking into a huge sadness that takes a while to fully dig myself out of. i can't even get excited for download next week because i just want to be back at confuzzled with all my friends.

where do i begin with my weekend though? it was all amazing, from getting the sponsor goodies at reg to being justsmith's glamorous assistant in the dealer's den to the events to the numerous room parties. i never had a dull moment and it felt like a week-long holiday- which i guess it basically was. staying on-site this year made a huge amount of difference too, especially when we checked in and found we'd been upgraded to an executive room!

i meant to do this journal over a week ago but life's been pretty hectic. i was in bristol for jftw, then at my parents, then glasgow and finally birmingham before coming home. i haven't done that much travelling in a long time so it's taking me a while to recover from it. as fun as it's all been, it's caused me a huge pain flare-up which is never nice.

just fur the weekend was amazing! i made a whole load of new friends, the venue was really nice too and the free hot drink station was one of the best bonuses. i didn't feel bored once, for a small con there was always something to do or someone to talk to. they're planning on running again next year and i'll be going along- hopefully some of you will as well because it'd be nice to see it grow.

after that i visited my parents for a couple of days. not much to say there other than it was nice to see my family again - i only see them about three times a year now. although it's still weird that my old bedroom is now my dad's office, even though i moved out eight years ago. i was meant to head back home for a couple of days but ended up staying at my parents longer. i then found out my train to birmingham was much earlier than expected so i spent the night in glasgow. i managed to get a fancy hotel on the cheap!

last weekend i was in birmingham. the yogscast were doing a live stage thing at the gadget show so justsmith and i decided to go see it. we also queued for a while to meet them, but it's worth it when it's something you really like and gives you a lot of entertainment. i may have splashed out on a t-shirt and a couple of wristbands as well... oops.

and now i'm home. got a bunch of prep for confuzzled to do and less than seven weeks to do it. that may not seem a lot but i'm still waiting on a bunch of stuff to arrive so i can get working on it and justsmith needs to work around having a full time job. onwards!

heading off to bristol tomorrow with Klone for just fur the weekend! i'm excited, it's been a long time since i went to a small con and they've usually got pretty good atmospheres. we're also going to the zoo tomorrow since our flight gets in at 9am and we can't check into the hotel until 2pm.

IT'S GOING TO BE EXHAUSTING but it'll be worth it.

one of my favourite things about pokemon has always been the ability to turn the game into a multiplayer, and it's amazed me to see how easy it's become over the years. not just the console games but the trading card game too. i have my irl decks online in the game too which is great because i don't really know anyone nearby who plays. the player search system in the gen 6 games also makes it really easy to battle people from all around the world, and usually it's pretty good fun.

until you meet someone who hates to lose.

it's frustrating. you're winning, it's going great and then they disconnect so they don't have to lose. so you're stuck with a temporarily frozen game and you don't get to end something that you've been enjoying just because the other person can't stand losing at a video game. then the more it happens the less you can be bothered and it sucks the joy out of the versus aspect of the game for you.

i just spent 20 minutes in a versus match on the tcg online. they played an yveltal, which i'm assuming is their trump card, but by sheer luck i had a frogadier with a move that had the ability to paralyse. but even more luck i got a heads every single time i did a coin flip, meaning that their yveltal couldn't attack and within a few turns i beat it. so what do they do? they disconnect. which froze the entire game for me, meant i didn't get my daily achievement and meant the game was a complete waste of time.

don't be that guy. if you're going to lose then lose and move on. it's just a video game.

but yeah! i was meant to be going to kitacon in april, but it's not a very enjoyable or safe con any more due to incidents in 2014 and 2015. so i cancelled my registration and i'm going to just fur the weekend in bristol instead the weekend before! it's going to be a super-small con with less than 150 attendees but it seems like it's going to be really cool to me. the only furcon i've been to has been confuzzled and it was pretty big. plus it's jftw's first year of running so it's nice to support these kind of things. hopefully klone can come too.

space-permitting i should also be selling some things, which means i really need to get on setting up jackalopestudios internet presence properly. clovencreeds won't be with me (he's going to birmingham for insomnia 57 that weekend instead) but i should have some of his art prints available. it's all up in the air at the moment but since i'm unemployed again due to health reasons i've got some time to sort stuff out.

in two weeks this is the third journal i've made mourning the death of someone famous who meant something to me. 2016 is shaping up to be an awful year and we're only two weeks in.

the fact we've now lost an absolutely amazing actor is painful. personally, i'll always remember him as the man who brought snape to life for my generation of harry potter fans, the man who played a terrifying villain in die hard and the hilariously jaded sci-fi actor in galaxy quest.

r.i.p to yet another amazing person.

that's a title i thought i'd never write.

i don't have anything really coherent to write here other than this is yet another huge kick to the gut. it didn't occur to me while listening to lazarus that it was a final farewell, and when i woke up yesterday to the news i just wanted to scream and cry. this was a man whose music and image gave me courage to continue and not change when i was bullied as a child, and who continued to amaze me throughout the years.

david bowie had a massive impact on my life and the world has lost an amazing figure of inspiration and creativity.
