It's looking to be a bit tight this month for rent and bills, so I'm opening up for commissions for the first time in years! |D

Handling this differently than the past: I will not be requiring payment upfront! I want to give you peace of mind and not bury myself into a financial hole in my quest to get out of it. This way it does not add to my current backlog of other art I owe to people (which I have finally the time to begin working on as well). I wish to have each request finished in a very timely and reasonable manner. Most turnaround times are within a few days at the moment!

Update 7/30: My job just gave me my schedule and will require me to work nine days in a row leading up to RMFC, so depending on what time I get home and what time I need to be up the next day, I may not be able to draw every day now :/ At most will be able to get one or two drawings done. I've been rather exhausted lately and sleep is important but I'll do my best. lol, I went from having like no takers on commissions when I had almost 4 days off in a row... to everyone wanting one at once when I can't draw! Oh you guys *paw wave*


This is practice for my transition into becoming a working artist. I dropped down to part-time at my job last week and will need to rely on my talents to continuously support my livelihood now. It's a scary transition but I'm excited. I really look forward to drawing for you!

Yey porn ads are finally being taken down, but I was upset I had to block ads in the first place. I absolutely LOVE to see my fellow artist's ads but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to adjust all my filters to block the third party ads and keep the good ads. After fiddling with it for hours last week I gave up frustrated. I was on the right track but hadn't been able to figure out how to whitelist all the necessary components.

A few quick life updates:

-We did finally get a new house, still unpacking slowly but the studio is mostly set up again. I have a garage for the first time! I can now do year-round casting
-I am focusing on casting as many products as I can to catch up on previous orders and have items for sale at RMFC. I will be contacting everyone to make order/payment/refund/etc arrangements when I am ready to tackle them all.

-CanineHybrid.com is no more I lost the domain name a few months ago; it expired without me knowing or being contacted. Unfortunately someone bought it out from under me and uses it as domain squatting for something inappropriate. Therefore, I can no longer do business as CanineHybrid Creations.
-My email broke, my website, broke, my webstore broke. Everything associated with CanineHybrid.com I no longer have access to and haven't for quite some time.
-I will be doing business under a different name soon and rebranding my work, which I will announce when ready. I will still be active as "CanineHybrid" for personal use. For now, quickest way to contact me is poking Twitter.

-I will be on my family's vacation from July 6-13 (this is why I'm not at AC again, it usually overlaps) and not available during this time
-When I return, I will be switching to part-time at my job... allowing me to FINALLY be a working artist for the first time ever. This means no more stagnation and there will finally be commission opportunities for you guys! It's a big, scary step for me but it's always been the goal to at least try it out someday.

Hey Internetland! I wanted to take some time to cover a few basic but major things going on with me so you can all stay in the loop.


Webstore & Email
Currently my webstore is down for maintenance. I discovered that for the past few months without my knowledge, there was an error that stopped receipts for customer's orders from being sent out as well as my entire email system not functioning properly. I had only begun to realize something was wrong with my communications and orders very recently, and then I woke up the other day to a call from Paypal about several customer chargebacks at once- which have locked my account until further notice. So my hands are a bit tied right now until a lot of these incidents get sorted out. Oi it's a mess. I'm sending a bug report to my ecommerce company and trying to get things sorted out with clients in alternate methods besides email because it's entirely unreliable right now.

SO if you are waiting on a mask or a parts order from my webstore, and you have a Paypal record of the transaction, you are safe! I have received your order without issue even if you didn't get confirmation from my webstore. For some reason the public list of webstore orders also hasn't updated itself automatically since October so it's severely outdated... which is crazy odd because on my end it's current but my website doesn't appear to be loading the most recent version. That will be the first thing I tackle this week to get back on track.

But basically my whole system is falling apart.

If we've already talked within the past month about your webstore order, our arrangements are still to be honored and fulfilled as soon as possible (unless you've requested a chargeback or refund of course). Through email I had been giving ALL of my current customers monthly-ish updates about what's going on, any delays, announcements, etc. So in case you haven't gotten these emails (which I'm learning many people haven't been also) I am very delayed in my orders right now and for three main reasons: the time of year (I can only cut masks on the porch when it's warm enough), the much-needed holiday break I took mid November-January, and the large volume of orders I got in October's mask sale from overwhelming interest. My list is pretty long, which I can't thank you all enough for your support and patience while I work through everything. If you have any questions, try and poke me on Twitter as I've easily found that to be the most reliable and quickest medium to get my attention above any other right now. I truly do not mean to be unreachable and I'm certainly not ignoring you guys! I'm incredibly sorry for the inconvenience and insecurities this issue may have caused you. As a reminder I do not use my FA/DA notes, and do not log on to my gallery sites every day nor can I possibly check everything when I do. I'm going to try to keep an eye on this journal for the next few days, but after that I have a lot of other things to focus on that are more pressing.

Moving
Biggest bit of news I can share with you guys now is the announcement that we are moving... again. I never went into details about what happened to me last year, but the bare basics involve me breaking up with my ex boyfriend Verlis only weeks after him, Xander, Pox, and I moved in together in March. Unable to cope with the situation (to put it as lightly as absolutely possible), Verlis abandoned the property and effectively broke the lease- so we had fought hard to maintain our end of the bargain with the homeowners by agreeing to cover his share of the rent so we could continue having a roof over our heads. And trust me when I say that this was nearly impossible for us to do with the kind of income we all have and the level of high-end luxury our current place offers us... (I mean seriously, does your house have heated tile flooring in all the bathrooms and kitchen? As my parents have become fond of saying, our house is "much too good for children" XD) I never got around to doing a video house-tour, but we nicknamed this place the "Palace" for a reason.

We've been forced to live paycheck to paycheck, barely eating sometimes to pull it off, and celebrating how much of a miracle it's been to live here. I mean, what a privilege. Even though we've suffered through easily the most significant financial burden of our lives, we've just been so damn happy to be together enjoying life and each other's company over the past year. I can't even begin to tell you how close and strong our bond as friends has become from this and how we're so glad everything happened, the good and the bad. I'm proud to say that we have successfully survived to the end of our 1 year contract paying in full on time every time against all odds. Unfortunately, despite leveling out all the circumstances with them, the homeowners have come to love us as tenants for our responsibility and communication... but so much so that they just don't dare want to "risk adding an unknown element" into the arrangement and in turn reward our dedication by allowing us to obtain a fourth roommate. Period.

Without a fourth person, we cannot stay here. It was pretty much a big slap in the face after all that has happened honestly and we're left a little hurt and confused. And to top of it all off I found out about this on my birthday. So I've basically have had adult life dumped onto me all at once the moment I turned 25. It's been stressful ever sense. We are house hunting like crazy and naturally I'm in charge of all these arrangements again- calling people, arranging showings, driving all over town, glued to Zillow, all while having a full time job during the weekdays. If you've ever had to go through this then you know what it's like. Pickings are slim right now, my credit took a nosedive because of the excessive use of my card to make sure I could still feed myself, and we even considered buying a house to best afford our monthly payments on a mortgage... but with the disarray paying for the current rental house has left us, we don't have a savings anymore and certainly can't commit to a house on such short notice. So we're just looking for something to help us get back on our feet for the moment.

How does this effect you guys? Well, all commissions are forced to being back on hold (unless we have special arrangements or deadlines). I have to pack up the studio and the computer and relocate at the end of the month. Every spare ounce of freetime has literally been taken up by househunting, my job, enough sleep to function, packing, and other various life priorities... and making sure I don't go insane all the while. I've been away from FA, Facebook, Twitter, etc for long periods of time (well, long for me anyways) so I can focus on this. But as soon as we have secured a new place I'll feel much better and will update you guys what's going on with that. I'm pretty anxious to sign a lease so I can stop spending energy on that, and will cram as much work on things I owe you guys as I can before we pack up and move. Hopefully the financial burden lifted off our shoulders will really help improve our lives overall just a little bit more.



New Projects:
I have lots of big plans this year. Like always. I'm super excited about them! I really can't wait to share everything with you since this major project has been planned for awhile... and I expect to be able to give you the full reveal sometime after we're settled in to a new place. It will be another creature costume project that I'll have some collaboration on to be debut at cons this summer- aiming for either Denver Comic Con or A-kon.

I am trying hard to attend AC this year as well, I just need to confirm plans with my family's vacation timeshare and I'll look into travel arrangements. Sonar is put on the backburner for completion until after I move, but I have given the head to my good friend Rukamae to sew together this past month and she's almost done. Pictures soon! I have about 10 things I want to upload to my galleries I've either forgotten about or haven't found the time to do. As far as New Years resolutions go, I really want to improve my dedication to all you Patreon supporters, update all my items in the webstore as well as come out with new stock (I didn't do anything new for CHC in 2014, just private client work that's not available for purchase by the public), and of course get caught up on my to-do list. I'm also an admin now on the Angel Dragon facebook group and working closely with everyone over the next few months completely overhauling everything, doing a bunch of exciting and useful stuff to help them out.


And now I'm exhausted. This journal took me over 3 hours to type but I really wanted to get everything out there. Important stuff.


Oh yeah, and my roommate TelltaleFirebrand is open for commissions, helping him out will help us all pay for a deposit on a new house that we so desperately need assistance with. I can't justify opening for commissions with such a full plate myself, but I've thought about some YCH auctions or OTS (On-The-Spot) Lvestreams... only out of desperation though. Just two quick questions to my followers: Do you watch me for something specific (drawings, costumes, etc) and do you think it's a good idea to create a secondary account for just my business?

Costumes would be uploaded to both accounts since I still want to keep this account my main one, but I've noticed a huge trend that most suit builders have a personal page and a costume/business page. It's less common on DA unless it's more like a photo account or a fan art account, but I'd really like to hear a much input as I can. Do you like this format? Anyhow! It's update time once more, and boy have I been putting this off for awhile now. Got quite a few things to cover since I've been a little quiet this past month.


Big Changes

Well arguably the biggest change in Riley-land is this: as of November 3rd I earned a new job title! I have now been promoted to full time Fabric Coordinator at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts, hooray and stuff! It wasn't the easiest decision to make because now that I am full time (in retail, around the holidays) things are gonna be pretty crazy at work and I will no longer have as much time as I originally wanted to put towards my artwork. That's life for ya.

As much as I really wanted to jump right in to being "Ms grown-up professional artist person", at this stage in my life what I really need is stability and insurance benefits. I feel that I need to get my feet under me as a safety net before I can invest everything into my business and artwork. My student loan payments are going to kick in next month (geeze how has it been six months since I've graduated already!?) and that's going to need a lot of attention to maintain alongside everything else I have to worry about. Finding a new place to live is still in the cards but hasn't been very successful yet.

Commissions

Naturally due to the change in my work schedule, commission work is going to have to be handled differently. I still have a few lingering responsibilities on my list before opening up for new stuff but that'll come together pretty soon. In the meantime I want to do an OTS livestream day at least once a month and have been playing with the idea of doing some YCH auctions (that's a "Your Character Here" commission, for those unfamiliar, where I sketch out a pose and you bid on how much you would like to pay in order for me to finish it with your character instead). Would there be any interest there? YCHs are also often tailored to the adult market- while I have never drawn porn I will do artistic or tasteful nudity, and this would be a great way for me to draw something I am comfortable with without any awkward questions from you guys to gauge what I may or may not be willing to do in this area. Might also do some quick, smaller, fun things... like more wavy icons or derp chibis.

As for normal commissions, perhaps January I can start considering taking them again. I wanted to get a feel on how my new schedule was going to be first and what might be acceptable to take on. I'd like to try and open as much as five slots and get them all done within a month so I could have monthly openings, but it's hard to do that alongside webstore orders and full time job and any personal projects/time/life. Speaking of which...

Webstore

My webstore orders are caught up once again though turnaround time is within two weeks due to having less time to work on them. I like to use one of my days off each week for webstore stuff. Mask cutting makes a mess so it requires me to be outside... which is a problem now that it's winter so it may be even harder to work on everything. After casting about 60 canine masks, my mold is finally starting to show some wear and will need to be replaced soon. I'm looking to tweak a few things on the mask that have been bugging me too as I make the new mold. I'm also still working on the new dragon mask and have a little progress to show you here:

As for everything else, eyes aren't happening anytime soon since I'm getting a new mold created and it'll take a month to go through production and shipping. Jawsets will not happen until the new mask molds are done to ensure they'll properly fit. I won't be making new species until my current two are more or less finished/perfected. Claws and feetpaws may be happening soon however. I've been testing out a few things and playing around with other ideas so we'll see what comes out of it. I don't release anything for sale until it's undergone thorough testing and prototyping so it's a very slow process.

Commissions

I still plan to open commissions this month, soon as I'm caught up with my current batch. I am finishing up the last two RMFC 2012 commissions within the next day or two and have been working on my RMFC 2013 list on and off as well. Quotes will open soon, not sure on the exact date yet but it will go live before commissions slots do. I will also be taking a lot more OTS (on-the-spot) livestream commissions and am doing a bit of price adjustment on my commissions list to reflect better prices for sketches by separating rough sketches from refined sketches.

Webstore

Masks and webstore items are doing awesome and I've been keeping up a very consistent flow consistently for the last month, so I'll be sticking to the current schedule I've got going. Turnaround is a week, so if you want anything for Halloween, purchasing something this week would be ideal. I'm still working on perfecting the eye mold that has been giving me trouble left and right, and once that's ready I'll be able to offer clear eyes and color tinted eyes in both 2D and 3D. I'm working with CircuitPawz and sgtknifeman to offer LEDs and painted eyes respectively. I am in the middle of re-sculpting the dragon mask and slightly tweaking the canine mask!

So expect this to be ready sometime in November, but I'll be sure to keep you posted on what's going on with that. I'll be doing some Livestreaming sessions as I sculpt as well.

I wanted to announce that I'm holding off on opening commissions this month. I didn't want to do that because there's no thing I hate more than having to take back what I said; when I make plans I want to be able to stick to them... but things happen. It's already hard enough to plan Livestreams because it's just hard to foresee what will get in the way. But until I've got more of an idea what my daily routine will be like, it may be a sporadic for awhile so I apologize in advance.


Commission Schedule

Every Wednesday - Webstore Cut Orders [link]
There will be a limited number of "Custom Cut" and "Cut + Hinged" masks available for purchase from my webstore every week on Wednesdays and will remain up until the slots are taken. If I fill up those order slots during the week, orders will be temporarily disabled until the next Wednesday. Turnaround time is within two weeks. This schedule will remain in effect as long as it is practical to do so.


Monday, September 16 - Commission Livestream [link]
Livestream won't cooperate and I have plenty of other things to do today. Cancelled, sorry :(
Instead of opening quotes this week and accepting slot commissions on the 15th as planned, I am canceling my plans to open commissions and instead will be hosting another On-The-Spot Livestream (which I now dub OTSL) commission day. This may end up being a regular thing.

I really liked the two other times I've done this style of commissions and figured those who want art from me can still get a chance to get something smaller/simpler for now and much sooner than if I took them as a normal slot commission. And I prefer it so I don't have any lingering responsibilities; I finish everything I was paid to do in that day. Downside is I can't do anything too crazy or detailed with these unless I purposely set aside a timeslot to accommodate it and it's best to do that in advance. I will have to judge interest for this.


Tuesday, October 1 - Commission Quotes Open
First day of October I'll be opening quotes for character drawings (NOT COSTUMES). The price I quote you at is good for 3 months so you can submit your requests at any time, get a price for your art, and be ready to grab an open commission slot when they are available. This makes it easier for me to organize and allows you to not have to scramble to fill out your form when I open- you can be ahead of the game and have the best chance at getting an earlier slot. I'll have quotes open for awhile but I'll announce a day in advance when/if I close them again.


Mid-late October - Commission Slots Open
There are many reasons I'm holding off on taking new slots. Number one reason is that I'm not going to be able to finish all the old commissions on my to-do list before Sep 15 -which was the date I originally planned to open for new slots. Basically it would give me no time to enjoy myself and celebrate my accomplishment. I just need a few solid days of work to wrap it up but I don't want to immediately jump back into that hole I just crawled out of after being buried in it for so long. I also had a convention this past weekend that interfered with plans to quote and open slots since I wasn't home.

SO you can expect the opening date to be in October now. I will be starting on the 2013 RMFC commissions that I took in August first and once that dies down (I'll still be doing some OTSL during this time... again that's On-The-Spot Livestreams) I will have an official new opening day and hope to consistently offer new slots once or twice a month from then on.

Hello internet-land! September is finally here and I've been quite busy catching up on my to-do list throughout August. I have a few people I haven't heard back from yet but I've got one wavy icon, two headshots, five RMFC 2012 commissions at various stages of completion to finish, and have four more masks to cut/hinge before those old commissions are wiped off my list entirely. For once in my life I'm about to be caught up. I still have a few side projects here and there, some old trades and whatnot, and will be worked on throughout this month alongside the new work I will be taking on.

That's right, for the first time in three years, Riley CanineHybrid will be open for new commissions! :D

I'm finally ready to make art and my business a full-time job and it will be my main source of income for the foreseeable future. If you would like to help aid me in this endeavour and get some original, custom, bitchin' awesome artwork, then get your references ready because I have no idea how fast these slots will go.

Opening Dates

∙Wednesday, September 4 - Webstore commissions

"Custom Cut" and "Cut + Hinged" masks will be available for purchase again, experimenting with opening 2-3 slots every week on Wednesdays. Once the slots are taken I will be closed for custom mask orders until the following week. Items like noses, pawpads, and uncut masks will remain open (unless my to-do list becomes too long for me to properly manage them). I will try to maintain a strict turnaround time of 1 week, but no more than 2 weeks. So far all the new orders I've taken throughout August I've been able to keep up with easily alongside everything else.


∙Monday, September 9 - On-the-spot Livestream sketch commissions

I will be hosting a Livestreaming session at 2pm MST where you can come on and have the chance to purchase commissions or to watch them drawn live as they are requested! More details will be given when that happens but essentially I will be opening for sketch commissions (and maybe a few lineart ones) that are quick turnaround character drawings, each taking anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours to complete depending on the character and what kind of drawing is requested. This is an all-day stream and may go on until midnight-ish, and every commission I take that day will be finished that day.</div>


∙Wednesday-Saturday, September 11-14 - Drawing commission quotes open DELAYED

This is the timeframe when I will be open for commission quotes, questions, etc that you may have for me prior to the day I open for new slots. If you are interested in commissioning me, you can give yourself time to prepare for it by typing out all your commission info (I will have a form for you to fill out) and get an idea of what it would cost. Quotes are good for 4 months so even if you are thinking of something down the road, you are welcome to send in your ideas/requests now. Remember, Pokémon characters and/or simple receive a discount. Keep in mind these are for character drawing commissions ONLY; I will not be taking costume commission quotes at this time.


∙Sunday, September 15 - Commission slots open DELAYED UNTIL OCTOBER

This is it! Commission slots go live on this day; depending on how popular or how quickly the slots go, I may be changing up how I accept them but I plan to post it at noon (MST) and give you a 6 hour window. I will then cut off new commission requests and assign out all the slots. If you post for a slot, you are expected to have payment ready immediately; if your commission is $50 or more, then you qualify to have the option of paying half now and half upon completion. <em>This is my current plan:</em> slots will be first come first serve, but for fairness I will set aside at least one slot for the winner of a randomized selection and another slot for accepting a commission of my choice based on how much it interests me from the ones remaining. I will contact you if you received a slot and will post the finalized list on my journal. If you do not pay me or arrange a payment agreement within a few days, you risk losing your slot. Commissions will then close until I have completed all the slots on the list. Directions on how to reserve a slot will be posted in the commission journal.

Other Updates

I will be attempting to work on some personal costume projects this month if I find the time, but otherwise I'll be concentrating on improving the webstore products with new molds and new items. Planned this month are Dragon and Canine masks 2.0, canine jawsets, and eyes. They will become available for sale as soon as they pass prototyping and quality tests. Expect some Livestreams of sculpting sessions. All I'm really waiting on at this point to be able to start is receiving a new eye mold from a plastic's manufacture that has been completely custom made for CanineHybrid Creations, so my eyes will be a slightly different size and depth than what any other builder offers and will be designed to work with my masks out of the box. When they officially launch, there will be clear resin, colored/tinted resin, and silicone options with half or full (3D/follow-me) versions and LED add-ons. Custom painting is a service I'm working on offering to you soon as well.

Hello!

Wanted to inform you that my normal commission work will be suspended for the next 2 weeks and unless otherwise posted, I should be able to resume my work on Monday, August 5th. The reasons behind my absence for the month of July have been due to a family vacation I took from the 8th-15th to Lake Powell, and unfortunately on that trip I was in a jetski accident. I had a collision with a canyon wall and my foot was crushed inbetween. Luckily no bones were broken but had some nasty cuts, bruising, and internal bleeding. While I was treated right away and put on antibiotics, it ended up severely infected and have now been to two doctors and a wound clinic specialist with the instructions to stay off my foot and keep it elevated above my heart 80% of the time.

This means I cannot sit it front of the computer or be in the art studio working for an extended amount of time and must lay down to be able to elevate my foot high enough. I can still be reached through my phone (what I am using now to type this message) but for the time being I cannot return to work for the remainder of the month.
