Upload frustrations & Mermay
Posted 6 months agoSo in my last journal I talked about how I was split on whether or not to upload art not originally made by me. Things like commissions and such. I haven’t gotten any input yet, and I’m still rather indecisive on it. The same can be said about posting OC bios here, since again, I have a Toyhouse account that I’ve been using for that too (though at the snails pace I’ve been going at…).
Why am I bringing this up again? Simply put: Mermay and financial complications.
I wanted to make several nice commissions in regards to it, but thanks to recent pressures at home I may be limited in how many I can get, let alone on what to do. And I wanted to do more this year after how last year was pretty quiet. It doesn’t help that I’m also trying to plan out some future purchases such as living expenses and when to get luxuries like a Switch 2.
So I’m stuck on what to do. I will probably upload a few bios that fit FA too, thanks to the help of a few friends and their input, but I wanted just any input at this point. I’ll take what I can at this rate, I’ve just been in a bit of a stagnant rut at this point.

2024 review & recent thoughts

I tried several times writing a journal entry to post how things have been since the last major journal entry back in June. It’s been difficult for me to when things kept developing at a regular pace. My overall mood though has been rocky as a result, to the point that I can easily say that this year has been one of my least favorite experiences to date. Particularly between March to Mid-October (with August being the exception).
I won’t spend too much time on a recap of events for this year that I’ve already mentioned, specifically both of my grandmothers passing. Family is important to me, and those losses were hard as a result.
After the last funeral happened, things seemed to start off fine. I got to visit with my brother and his family afterwards. Hurricane Debbie originally caused things to be in question, but that turned out to be nothing much and I still got to visit with them in August. Things seemed pretty quiet otherwise…
Then Hurricane Helene happened. I was spared from a lot of the damage other areas got, but it still was rough. Went without being on the power grid for about 5 days, and wifi internet was cut off thanks to something going out with one of the region’s providers. There was a lot trees downed, and several power lines too, even cutting off one of the roads I frequent. And if that wasn’t enough, I ended up catching a stomach bug in the middle of it all. Heck, there were still huge piles of debris that weren’t picked up until mid November, and there’s still a few trees downed, it not damaged. Thankfully my place has backup power, cellular internet still worked, and I was lucky to family support me while I was sick.
All things considered, I’m extremely thankful to have support like I did. Especially when it looked like barely over a week afterwards, Hurricane Milton would compound things. Luckily for where I’m located, Milton didn’t do much aside causing the surge to pick up & some gusts. I wish I could say the same for a lot people south of me, as a lot of Florida got it hard with Helene & Milton nearly back-to-back. Once those storms came and gone & the cleanup was over with, it felt like things were finally beginning to return to normal here. I even enjoyed a few weeks of hanging out with other family members.
November was also looking to be quiet at the same time. And it mostly was… Save for catching strep throat. Thankfully it was a mild case, in fact I didn’t even know I had it until I went to the doctor for an annual checkup. Got put on meds right then & there and thought it was done about a week later until I started getting symptoms again. Then after that round, I caught a cold before Thanksgiving. No rest for the weary…
December was ok. Mostly hung with the family and enjoyed a really laid back Christmas.
That all said, between the multiple funerals, a crazy hurricane season, back to back Illnesses, and other stressors: I’M DONE WITH 2024. I had enough going on just on a personal level that I couldn’t ask for much more than to leave it behind me…
Other Recent Thoughts
Lately, I began to wonder a few things with how much I lack in posting things here. I began to ask myself the question “Should I go back to reuploading anything I’ve not made?”
Reason I bring this up is because these days when I commission artists, I prefer to let them post it so that they get the credit they deserve. Sometimes I see that they don’t mind it, but it’s just a personal preference. I know I occasionally did it back in the past, but it’s something I’ve become pretty self-conscious on. The only exception being places like Toyhouse, where it’s meant to be a collection or archive for pictures for characters and their bios
Additionally, when it comes to character bios, I’ve had a strong inclination to post them on Toyhouse. Part due to preference again, but I got to wondering about that lately. Part of the concern is due to things like concern such as art theft and the bio images being used in AI and such *without consent*. I have a mixed view on AI overall (if you’re curious on it, just ask in the comments below), but I do think the rights of artists should be respected.
Back on point: If you guys want me to repost comms & character pictures, let me know. you’re welcome to give me input on that.

Moody Birthday
Posted a year agoIt’s hard to put into words how I’ve felt these past few months. While I should be happy that it’s my birthday today (along with it being Father’s Day & being able to spend time with mine on it ), I can not lie, I’ve had a sense of melancholy for this one. After my grandmother (dad’s side) passed back in March, there was signs that my other grandmother (mom’s side) was beginning to decline in her health as well. Last week, she passed away, just 3 months after we had laid the first one to rest.
I don’t know how to exactly describe it, but I think both these deaths happening so close to each other, let alone this other one being near my birthday, has really depressed me. Specifically, when it comes to one detail: how it feels like a new era is starting for me. There’s been several issues on my domestic front that has kind of dampened my creativity, to the point where I’ve had to just drastically cut back on the commissions I buy. And these family deaths feel like I’ve just ran into a wall now on even working on character bios or ideas for things I wanted to see with said characters.
I hate to say it, but I think I’m just stuck for now. I’ll still work on things like organizing my characters & writing out bios for them on my Toyhouse, but I can’t say for now what else will happen.

Grandmother
Posted a year agoI know I’ve not made a lot of journals or uploads in a while but today merits one. It’s been challenging for the last several years, but today I’ve arguably been given one of the biggest blows in my recent life.
My grandmother, whom I was rather close to, even referring to her as “Nana,” passed away in her sleep. I had know her health was in decline, and had even intended to visit with her before such could happen, but this still hits me hard. Honestly, I don‘t think I could have ever been prepared enough for this…

Profile Updating & Misc

Jokes aside, I’m doing some cleaning up & updates for my profile here. It may not appear like much, but I realized that some of this information needed tidying up.For instance, I’m thinking about updating the “Great Friends list” on the profile header.
Additionally, I need to catch up on a few other things, like a few uploads I wanted to share from friends & other artists got on here. I’ve been split on whether to post more character bios here or not. I’ve been using another website to help manage my OC count, and I may be tempted to link it in my profile.
There’s a few other things I also need to clear up, but I’m trying to take it a step at a time, given how busy real life has been to me. V_V

Posted 2 years agoI admit it. I’ve been pretty quiet outside a few comments & comms. Between the pandemic, work, and other domestic issues, it’s kind of stifled me creatively a bit. I’ll try to fix that over time, but admittedly there may be some slow periods in the process.

December update
Posted 10 years agoNot a whole has been happening as I've been mainly helping my folks around the house, especially with landscaping and decorating for the holidays. Otherwise I've been trying my best to find a job so I can not only support myself but also go back to commissioning people I like or want to. However that hasn't been easy and I've sorta...needed to slow down on things. I want to just go ahead and put this out their for any artist that I've commissioned watches me: I'm sorry if I haven't commissioned you in a while but I have a tight budget.
I have been working on more character bios and I may do some written stuff in the future but it may be a while. Still working out details on what I would wanna write. In fact if things get slow enough for me, I could be tempted to do writing commissions for cheap, but I'd need to work out the rates and such first.
Finally: I wanna say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. Hope this season is good to you
