Eric DeLane
Home Life:
- Eric's late father was Mick "The Train" DeLane, a prominent arena battler in the two-on-two tag division of Felix Blackclaw's Iron League, among others. His mother Elena, a glaceon, battled as an independent throughout a number of leagues as the masked fighter better known as Tundra. Eric's older brother Matt, also a glaceon, recently signed with the Steelstar League and has been enjoying a measure of success there. Following his father's death Eric and his mother moved back into their home in Viridian City where the two now live. Elena retired from arena combat when her husband's illness was diagnosed but has been considering returning to the arena, as she's still in remarkable shape for her age and eager to get her life back to normal.
- Eric has been looking for his own place closer to the school, his family's home is fairly far away and he has about an hour commute to and from the academy. Thus far he's been busy settling back in and helping his mother with things and so still lives at home. He has about half of the fairly nice house to himself, including a room that has been converted into an artist's studio and workroom.
- Eric doesn't get to see his brother very often and spends as much time with him as possible when Matt comes into town with the Steelstar League's traveling battle shows. The two get along quite well despite their differences. Even though Matt is the older of the two (by three years), he's always been the instigator, causing trouble that the more level-headed Eric had to figure a way out of. Very little about that has changed over the years and remains much the same when the two are together now.
Personal Life:
- Eric tends to carry a sketchbook around with him on campus and will spend offtimes just drawing what he sees or whatever random thoughts occur to him over the course of the day. These drawings are fairly well detailed, he's extremely fast at doing them. It acts as something of a sketch diary, though the contents are random and disorganized to anyone who happens to view them out of context..
- Eric has always had a talent for battling and though he had more of an interest in it when he was younger his interest began to wane somewhat when his older brother Matt was the first to take up their parents' career. Matt enjoyed the focus of their parents' training and efforts regarding battles and Eric's interest began to wane as a result. He and his brother were always close and he was leery of a rivalry developing between them, so he took off in his own direction. After their father's death however Eric renewed his interest in battling and approached his brother about forming a two-'mon team after Eric graduates.
- Eric evolved less than a month after his sophomore year began and was out of school for a couple of weeks as a result of complications. As a zigzagoon he was fairly short and somewhat hyperactive, he added over a foot of height when he evolved and it took some time to adjust to his new form. His personality changed a bit as well and it was at this time that Nicole first started to notice him as something more than just a friend.
School Life:
- Eric is still working on his artistic studies in the promotions and productions program he first began at the academy, though it's mainly just to finish it up and give himself something to fall back on once his battling career is done. His grades in such are quite good and he's quite talented, some of his teachers aren't very fond of his apparent decision to abandon his artistic career for a battling one but understand it.
- Contrary to expectations of his species Eric tends to have a slow, methodical approach to battles. He plays a lot of hit and run, wearing his opponent down while slowing and hampering them, then moves in close and uses his tremendous speed and hand to hand fighting ability to finish things off. Of course if the situation calls for it he's perfectly capable of a blitzkrieg style offense that can overwhelm unprepared opponents. He's a very versatile fighter, always aware of what's going on and how to manipulate any situation to his advantage.
- Eric is taking a number of extra classes but the workload isn't really that big of a strain. Several of his academic courses are ones that he already took at his old school but due to bureaucratic or procedural hangups the credits didn't transfer. He coasts through these for the most part so he can focus on his battle-oriented classes, but sometimes doesn't remember quite as much of the material as he thought he would.
Love Life:
- Nicole Blackclaw was Eric's first true love, the natural result of hormones involving themselves in a long friendship. Although they tell themselves that they broke up because it was awkward dating after being friends for so long, the truth is that they broke up because their interests were pulling them in different directions and they found they had less and less in common. After returning to the academy with a renewed focus in battles he hoped that the common ground might get them back together, but that was before he discovered how different she had become since they last spoke face to face. She never told him about her sister, her boyfriend, or much of anything else, and the more he finds out about her the more of a wedge it has driven into their friendship.
- While attending his prior school, an art school in Hoenn, Eric was involved in a number of relationships, none of which ended well. He refers to these relationships as "trainwrecks", and truthfully the problems were little fault of his own. The string of bad relationships has somewhat soured him to the idea of a new one, and the bitterness and resentment over them has caused him to have little interest in relationships for now. One of the reasons he was initially interested in resuming a relationship with Nicole is that it's the one relationship he was in that ended well, and he considered it relatively safe.
- Eric has been spending a lot of time with Gabby Jaide of Team Driller over the past couple of months.They long insisted that they were just friends and gave little if any indication that they were otherwise, despite constant teasing from their friends. Recent events however have brought them closer together, and although they still insist that they aren't dating, they will admit to being close friends. In truth he does care about her, but isn't willing to enter into a serious relationship with her while the wounds from his old ones are still open and sore.
Misc Facts/Quirks:
- Eric's most striking feature is his ice blue eyes, courtesy of his glaceon mother. He claims that he's had girls offer to sleep with him just because of them, and few who have gotten a good look at them doubt that claim.
- Eric hates coconut with a passion. He won't eat anything that has so much as a sliver of coconut on it and doesn't even like the smell of it.
- While he was attending his last school Eric produced a fairly popular on-line comic, a sword and sorcery epic with a slight comedic slant to it. He's quit working on it since returning to the PCA and it's not even known that he's the one who created it, as he never attached his real name to the comic.
- Despite being fairly wealthy and more than capable of affording it, Eric seems to have something of a disdain for the latest technology. His cell phone is very bare bones and he often doesn't bother to carry it. He owns an outdated game system, and his home computer is several years obsolete.

Posted 17 years agoHaven't done one of these in a while, guess it's time for an update. This time, Dominic.
Dominic Ardillo del Relampago
Home Life:
- Dominic has a total of three sisters and one brother, of which only Tessa still lives at home. His mother is an eye doctor and his father is an architect. While the family isn't in the "filthy rich" category they are rather well off and live in a nice subdivision not far from campus. In fact Rylai's family lives only a few streets away. The two of them and Tessa used to play together when they were very young but haven't thought about it in years and it's debatable whether they would even recognize or remember each other.
- Dominic's bedroom is on the upstairs floor of the house but most of his time is spent in the basement where he has a small soundroom and amp for his guitar, his computer and video games, stereo, mini-fridge, fold-out bed, and other living arrangements. It was formerly used as a design studio by one of his sisters but he took it over when she moved out and Tessa passed on it.
- Dominic doesn't have his own car but does at least have his driver's license. Sometimes he'll borrow one of his parents' cars but usually he gets a ride to and from school with Tessa. Although he has a set of keys to her van he can't drive it because it doesn't actually have gas or brake pedals. He uses it to store his guitar and other items while he's at school but keeps leaving more and more stuff in there, much to her annoyance.
Personal Life:
- Dominic has always been musically talented and first picked up the guitar when he was very young. He appeared on a late-night talk show to play when he was only six years old. His preferred style is more oriented towards blues or classic rock but recently he's shifted into speed/thrash metal. Dominic joined a metal band named Napalm Orgy as part of a concentrated effort to remake his image, and while he enjoys it, it isn't what he would truly prefer to be doing.
- Napalm Orgy consists of Dominic on lead guitar, a blaziken named Faran who does the vocals and most of the songwriting, a kricketune bassist named Lenny, and lairon drummer named Lorissa. Dominic tried out for the band when their previous guitarist graduated and moved away. Faran objected to him on the grounds that he felt Dominic didn't fit the band's image but Lorissa insisted that he was by far the most talented and skilled of everyone who had auditioned. Lenny remained passive as always but in the end Lorissa's arguments won out over the opinionated blaziken. Dominic and Faran have argued over various issues related to the band since then but usually Lorissa sides with the pachirisu. Lenny never really says much of anything...
- Dominic and Tessa have always been best friends as well as siblings, and it hit him pretty hard when she was hurt. His dedication to success in the arena comes from a vow he made to fight the battles that she no longer could, and he takes every loss personally, as though he's let her down. He puts more pressure on himself than anyone else does, most especially her.
School Life:
- Dominic had no experience in arena-style battling before his freshman year at the Poke-Combat Academy. It was only through dedicated training during the summer before he started at the school that he was even able to pass the school's entrance exams, and even then he didn't score particularly well. His academic scores were much better, and he was accepted largely on the strength of those, but his skill in the arena has greatly improved since the start of his freshman year. Many opponents don't seem to realize this and so he's one of the more underestimated battlers in his class. His academics, however, have slipped somewhat.
- Dominic's admission into the academy was somewhat rushed and last-minute and as such he never actually signed up for a particular battle division. His freshman year was spent in a combination of solo battles and temporary teams. He still hadn't made a decision by the time his sophomore year came around and so the administration assigned him to the team division based on his previous year's record. Dominic got the position as team leader only because his name came first alphabetically on the team's registration form. He wanted to name the team Crimson after a favorite band of his but it was already taken, so he just changed the spelling rather than come up with something new.
- Ever since he's been hanging around Zap, Dominic has been considering trying out for the academy's Pokeball team next year. To that end he's been spending quite a bit of time working out and building up his strength, having bought a set of weights for the basement. His motivations are twofold - one he wants to prove his toughness, and two he wants to get girls. All things considered it has had an effect, he's noticeably bigger than he was last year.
Love Life:
- Dominic has long suffered under the curse of being "too nice" and "just friends" with a number of girls. While he was patient for a while, the breaking point came when a spinda girl that he was interested in turned him down in favor of a guy who was "dangerous". A little over two weeks later she came to him looking for comfort and complaining that there weren't any nice guys out there after her new boyfriend treated her badly. Ever since then he's been acting like more and more of a jerk, and although it hasn't paid off yet, it doesn't help that a number of girls who previously wouldn't have given him the time of day have taken notice of him. But ironically as he's not used to such attention he hasn't really picked up on it.
- Dominic has a minor crush on both of his female teammates but is wise enough to believe in a "no dating teammates" rule. As such they're the two girls he doesn't mind just being friends with. He flirts with both of them (even though Neve is currently spoken for) but it's all in fun and all parties involved know that it isn't serious. He's also been flirting with his bandmate Lorissa, and though he just assumes it's all in fun as well, she doesn't and can't help but wonder why he doesn't follow up on it.
- Although he's not exactly picky, Dominic has a fondness for outgoing, athletic girls. The chainmail-bikini wearing amazon look is a favorite of his and he has a few Boris Voltejo posters depicting such hanging on the walls of the basement. His father didn't approve of such, claiming that such a display was disrespectful to females, but when the two females who actually live in the house had no objection he rather lost the argument.
Misc Facts/Quirks:
- The silver ball bearing necklace that Dominic always wears is actually made from small pinballs strung together. His grandfather, whom Dominic was close to, rebuilt and refurbished vintage pinball machines as a hobby and gave the necklace to Dominic to remember him by shortly before he died.
- Dominic hates it when people talk about his sister Tessa in a suggestive fashion. However she often encourages people to do so or says such things herself just to get under his skin.
- Dominic prefers to end his battles with a combination of Quick Attack and Spark, an out-of-nowhere spear-like tackle that he calls "Electric Funeral".
- Despite his last name, Dominic only speaks enough Spanish to order off the menu at Taco Beldum.
- Dominic's musical pride and joy is a heavy-metal styled cover of The Anvil of Crom from Conan the Barbarian. He plays it (very well actually) during his band's set with Lenny doing the bass line when Faran takes a break to rest his voice. Faran doesn't like the fact that it's one of the more popular parts of the set and it it doesn't involve him.

Posted 17 years agoWell time for another one of these I guess, work has been boring today. This time we'll go with everyone's least favorite psychokitty, Nikki.
Nicole Hunter Blackclaw
Home Life:
- Nicole and her family live in a very nice, very expensive, and very luxurious mansion in the hills to the northeast of Viridian City. Their closest neighbor is about half a mile away and lives in an equally opulent home (think Hollywood Hills). The estate is actually a little smaller than many would expect, her father Felix didn't want "more rooms than I'll ever have time to see". The grounds support a large pool, spacious garage, fully-functional training gym, the works. A small staff tends to the maintenance of the grounds, and the family employs a butler/caretaker/chauffer/all-around assistant named Owen (a pidgeot).
- Nicole rarely spends any time in her room, usually it's just to sleep, and even then she often crashes in other rooms of the house. There are still stuffed animals, outdated posters, toys, and other items strewn about her room from when she was very young. She hasn't kept them around for any kind of sentiment, but rather she just hasn't seen any reason to get rid of them and replace them with something else, seeing as how she doesn't spend much time in there anyway. The one thing in there that she does have sentiment for is an old, worn-out, (but very comfortable) beanbag chair that often gets drug around to other rooms of the house. It's black and silvery-gray with the faded, barely visible emblem of a professional pokeball team on one side.
- Between her mother’s acting career and the demands of her father's business there are often long stretches of time when neither of her parents are home. Nicole's parents trust her to take care of herself but still have Owen keep an eye on things. Nicole thinks she gets away with much more than she actually does, the pidgeot is much more observant than she thinks but is quite adept at playing otherwise. He usually keeps her parents up to date on what she's up to but has been known to look the other way from time to time.
Personal Life:
- Nicole has been slowly and steadily evolving into a persian for years now, gradually picking up more and more traits from her mother's side as she's gotten older. Although she isn't vocal about it, the fact that she hasn't yet been able to "take the plunge" grates on her. Her mother has given her plenty of the obligatory "it'll happen when you're ready" talks but Nicole likely would have gotten very frustrated by now if not for the fact that the slow and gradual evolution she's been going through is noticeable, at least to those who know her well.

- During Nicole's freshmen year she broke her arm during a match with a rhydon upperclassman but finished the match anyway. The injury caused her to miss that year's midterm exams, and though she was excused from them, missing out on those points still hurt her overall ranking. Home Life:
- Nicole and her family live in a very nice, very expensive, and very luxurious mansion in the hills to the northeast of Viridian City. Their closest neighbor is about half a mile away and lives in an equally opulent home (think Hollywood Hills). The estate is actually a little smaller than many would expect, her father Felix didn't want "more rooms than I'll ever have time to see". The grounds support a large pool, spacious garage, fully-functional training gym, the works. A small staff tends to the maintenance of the grounds, and the family employs a butler/caretaker/chauffer/all-around assistant named Owen (a pidgeot).
- Nicole rarely spends any time in her room, usually it's just to sleep, and even then she often crashes in other rooms of the house. There are still stuffed animals, outdated posters, toys, and other items strewn about her room from when she was very young. She hasn't kept them around for any kind of sentiment, but rather she just hasn't seen any reason to get rid of them and replace them with something else, seeing as how she doesn't spend much time in there anyway. The one thing in there that she does have sentiment for is an old, worn-out, (but very comfortable) beanbag chair that often gets drug around to other rooms of the house. It's black and silvery-gray with the faded, barely visible emblem of a professional pokeball team on one side.
- Between her mother’s acting career and the demands of her father's business there are often long stretches of time when neither of her parents are home. Nicole's parents trust her to take care of herself but still have Owen keep an eye on things. Nicole thinks she gets away with much more than she actually does, the pidgeot is much more observant than she thinks but is quite adept at playing otherwise. He usually keeps her parents up to date on what she's up to but has been known to look the other way from time to time.
Personal Life:
- Nicole has been slowly and steadily evolving into a persian for years now, gradually picking up more and more traits from her mother's side as she's gotten older. Although she isn't vocal about it, the fact that she hasn't yet been able to "take the plunge" grates on her. Her mother has given her plenty of the obligatory "it'll happen when you're ready" talks but Nicole likely would have gotten very frustrated by now if not for the fact that the slow and gradual evolution she's been going through is noticeable, at least to those who know her well.

PCA - Blatant Extortion & Skimpy Swimwear
Posted 17 years agoWell Tenebra won the spring break skimpy bikini picture poll and I'm working on that pic, though it's taking a while due to the large amount of detail. But in the meantime I went ahead and finished the original pic that I started working on (before putting it up to a vote) with the original subject, Tessa. The thing is she's being ornery and is refusing to let me post it until she sees some other people do some art of her first. So, once she sees herself five times, she says it's OK to go ahead and put up the picture of her in a skimpy bikini. I even got her to count one that was done just before we reached this deal, so really it's just four more. She also says she knows that she's appeared in a few stories and appreciates it, which is why she isn't demanding ten, and that she likes to read and will count either pictures or text-based stories towards her quota. (I thought for a moment of posting it anyway but she threatened to EMP my hard drive and that's a lot of um... data... yeah, data to lose.)

PCA - Academy FAQ
Posted 17 years agoWell I've seen a lot of questions concerning the Academy itself popping up for a while now so I thought I would take the initiative to come up with some answers based upon some rough sketches and outlines I did for the campus itself. And here's what I came up with. If anyone has anything to add or other questions to ask, fire away, hopefully we can come up with something that can serve as "official" source material.

The Poke-Combat Academy of Higher Learning is located in Viridian City in the Kanto region. The campus is located on the outskirts of the city, in the more rustic and rural section, but still within the city limits. The academy has a long and proud tradition that predates the current campus. The current academy was built up next to a small defunct liberal arts college, the grounds and facilities of which the Poke-Combat Academy has over time assimilated for its own use. The original buildings of the campus have been renovated and modernized on the inside but still maintain an old-fashioned, rustic look and feel on the outside. These red brick buildings are used for academic classes, while the more physically-oriented classes are held in newer, more modern, and sturdier buildings. The academy is rather large and has been growing rapidly in recent years, it has the ability to support many more students than are currently enrolled. The campus is very spacious and boasts beautiful landscaping with trees, bushes, a few ponds, and a fair-sized lake behind the main administration building (which is not the "infamous" lake, that one is located off campus). Benches and gardens provide ample space for students to socialize between classes. Groundskeeper Sprouts takes great pride in keeping up the grounds and maintaining their aesthetic beauty.
The pride and joy of the academy is the Taylor-Gates Arena, one of the newest, largest, and most state of the art battle facilities in the Kanto region and beyond. The modern facility stands in stark contrast to the rustic, red-brick academic grounds but is not without a beauty of its own. The arena is an indoor facility with a domed roof and enough seating to accomodate the entire school, students and faculty alike. In addition to the main battle area the arena boasts state of the art training facilities and houses a fully-functional medical ward. There are even power generators and ample supplies in storage that allow the arena to be used as a safe location in the event of a natural disaster. The academy features two auxiliary arenas, the Lillis Memorial Arena and James Zoppi Stadium. The Lillis Memorial Arena was the original gymnasium for the academy and was renovated many times over the years until the Taylor-Gates Arena was built. It is a covered arena not much different from the typical high school gymnasium, although somewhat larger. James Zoppi Stadium, named for one of the Poke-Combat Academy's founders, is an outdoor arena not much different from the typical high school football field, and in fact doubles as the school's pokeball field.
There is an unofficial fourth arena - the school's large outdoor pool which is often used when battling water types want to battle in their own environment. The school has a smaller indoor pool as well, but it isn't meant to be used for battles (but sometimes is anyway). There are also a number of battle areas throughout campus, both indoor and outdoor, some of which are terrain or type specific. These are used for teaching, examinations, or for students to freely use when not being used for scheduled academic purposes, but these battle areas lack the seating space to be used as true arenas and aren't quite as sturdy, it's common for several of them to be under repair at any given time. The school also has fair-sized facilities for more "mundane" sports, although by the school's own admission their facilities for these sports are not quite as developed as those of some other schools.
The grounds of the academy are arranged somewhat like a wagon wheel. The hub is the main administration building, a large three-story building that houses the offices of the administrative staff, the school's cafeteria, commons area, main bookstore, library, and other such features that need to be centrally-located. A large parking lot is located in front of the administration building, divided into sections for visitors, staff, and students. There are smaller parking facilities located here and there around the campus as well. On the grounds to the right of the main administration building is a small memorial garden with a monument dedicated to students and faculty who have passed away while attending or employed by the academy.
The academic buildings radiate out from this central hub. The "spokes" of the wheel are walkways, some covered, some not, that lead to these academic buildings. There are two indoor hallways that stretch out to the left and right of the main hub. The hallway to the right leads to the main battle arena, the hallway to the left leads to the secondary arena. Spaced at intervals along these indoor hallways are walkways that cross perpendicular to the hallways and allow for easier passage from the northern to the southern halves of the campus. The school's more modern, physically-oriented classrooms are located at the edge of the "wheel", while the older, red-bricked academic buildings are closer to the main hub. The entire campus, when viewed from the sky, bears a slight resemblance to a pokeball.
Although battle is the main focus of the academy there are a number of facilities devoted to other educational pursuits. The academy trains its students in all aspects of the battle arena, not just in the battles themselves. Education includes such things as management, promotion, broadcasting, health and medicine, and a variety of other pursuits. Although these programs aren't as popular as the battle classes, those students that choose to focus on the non-battle aspects of the academy are generally treated well by their fellow students, who realize that a champion needs a good team of well-trained specialists behind them.
Located about a quarter to a half of a mile away from the campus are several dormitories to house those students from out of town. The dorms range from a few old-fashioned buildings that were left over from the liberal arts college days to more recently-built apartment-style buildings. The dorms are divided into buildings for males and females, there are no co-ed dorms. Although the old style dorms lack some of the "creature comforts" of the newer ones, they are regarded as something of a status symbol and are almost exclusively populated by senior and junior level students. These dorms are located on the other side of a small wood that surrounds the northern side of the campus and are connected to the main campus by a few well-lit walkways. While these dormitories are owned by the academy and subject to their rules and regulations, they are not considered a part of the campus proper.

PCA in-depth character meme - Rylai
Posted 17 years agoWell let's go with the second-place vote-getter for another of these character memes. She was actually winning for a little while there, go fig. I'm sure she'll have something to say about how she would have gotten more votes if she had made out with some chick beforehand...
Rylai Summers
Home Life:
- Rylai's mother Deborah is the vice-president in charge of market research for a large advertising firm. Her father Barry (a hoppip, by the way) is a tax attorney for a multimedia corporation that owns a number of cable TV stations and other media outlets. Rylai refuses to use any products advertised by the former and refuses to watch or listen to any stations owned by the latter but slips up sometimes.
- She actually lives very close to the school, in one of the wealthier suburbs located not more than a few miles away from campus. She usually just walks to and from school, cutting through the woods that separate the campus from her neighborhood.
- Rylai's room at her house is set up more like a loft with a large sunroof. One of the walls of her room is covered with graffiti that is constantly getting painted over (by herself) according to what she feels like venting about. The rest of her room is decorated with painted-on sheets, posters, random debris, and a large number of houseplants. A rather large and elaborate stereo system that constantly undergoes "improvements" takes up one corner of her room. She keeps trying to blow out the sunroof with it but hasn't succeeded... yet.
Personal Life:
- Rylai is pretty good, but not great, at a number of artistic endeavors, from painting to a variety of musical instruments. If she were to focus on just one she could probably be quite good at it, but she doesn't seem willing to put in any sort of effort toward that end.
- Her "thug life" attitude aside, Rylai is very smart and well-read. The sheets hung up in her room are partially there to protect a large collection of books, magazines, and other literature. Most of them concern politics, revolutionary manifestos, and other such matters. She spends a fair amount of time up in her room reading.

She left the third team after she got into a heated political argument with one of her teammates and made the demand "him or me". They chose him. She hasn't entirely ruled out the possibility of joining another, but it seems very unlikely.
- Rylai has been in trouble at the school many times but all things considered has a very good record when it comes to not getting caught or getting off with a slap on the wrist. The worst disciplinary action she ever received was a week's suspension (and some additional detention time) for setting fire to two of the floats in last year's homecoming parade during the parade as part of a protest regarding the sponsors of those floats.
- She actually has done a fair amount of good at the school, from pointing out the unethical practices of some of the companies that the school purchased supplies from (that caused the school to change suppliers in protest after agreeing with her) to being rather vocal about proposed changes to curriculum, scheduling, or other matters that could have been thought out a little better. She can be very persuasive and surprisingly rational when she wants to be.
Love Life:

- Rylai's mother Deborah is the vice-president in charge of market research for a large advertising firm. Her father Barry (a hoppip, by the way) is a tax attorney for a multimedia corporation that owns a number of cable TV stations and other media outlets. Rylai refuses to use any products advertised by the former and refuses to watch or listen to any stations owned by the latter but slips up sometimes.
- She actually lives very close to the school, in one of the wealthier suburbs located not more than a few miles away from campus. She usually just walks to and from school, cutting through the woods that separate the campus from her neighborhood.
- Rylai's room at her house is set up more like a loft with a large sunroof. One of the walls of her room is covered with graffiti that is constantly getting painted over (by herself) according to what she feels like venting about. The rest of her room is decorated with painted-on sheets, posters, random debris, and a large number of houseplants. A rather large and elaborate stereo system that constantly undergoes "improvements" takes up one corner of her room. She keeps trying to blow out the sunroof with it but hasn't succeeded... yet.
Personal Life:
- Rylai is pretty good, but not great, at a number of artistic endeavors, from painting to a variety of musical instruments. If she were to focus on just one she could probably be quite good at it, but she doesn't seem willing to put in any sort of effort toward that end.
- Her "thug life" attitude aside, Rylai is very smart and well-read. The sheets hung up in her room are partially there to protect a large collection of books, magazines, and other literature. - Charlotte lives in a fairly nice house, though much more modest than Sherilyn's house back home. She was perfectly happy to take her niece in after her divorce left her with a large yet somewhat empty and lonely house.
- They share the house with a primal umbreon named Ninja, who naturally assumes that he owns the house and allows the two manectrics to stay there and feed him.
Personal Life:
- Sherilyn spends a lot of time training and studying and actually considers herself something of a nerd. Some of her aloof personality is just to disguise the fact that she's a bit shy.

Nicole Blackclaw
- Has spent so much time training with her teammate Mitzi that she's built up something of a resistance to fire. She can hold her hand over a candle flame for a rather long time with no ill effect and has used this ability as well as similar ones in the past to win bets.
- When Nicole was five her mother got her a role on a short-lived sitcom as "precociously-annoying neighbor kid". Nicole doesn't talk about it today, she considers it demeaning in retrospect (and really doesn't remember it anyway).
- The pokeball on the choker that Nicole always wears actually hides a sophisticated psychic scrambler, the kind used in military installations to prevent espionage. She "borrowed" it when her father took her on a tour of the facilities of one of his business associates who did some contract work for the military on the side. She never wears it in battles (such would be flagrant cheating) but more than one psychic has come away with a splitting headache and nosebleed after trying to telepathically eavesdrop on her in the hallways of the academy.
- Her hair was brown when she was younger, it's steadily gotten lighter and lighter as she's gotten older.
- Is fluent in at least a half-dozen languages but doesn't make it known so that she can keep tabs on what people say when they think nobody can understand them.
Tenebra Blackclaw

- Once spent a night in jail. But it was because she wore herself out playing while being pup-sat by her policemon dad at the police station. He put her on one of the cots in an empty holding cell to take a nap but just let her sleep through the night while he pulled an extra overnight shift.
- Hates onions.
Methelza Muma
- Is the only member of Team Jet who lives in one of the campus dorms. She has had a few roommates over the years but none of them have lasted more than a week without demanding to be moved.
- Is left-handed.
- Transferred to the P.C.A. just prior to the start of her sophomore year. She attended the Johto Battle Academy during her freshman year but withdrew when her mother got into a rather heated argument with the principal of that school.
- The distinctive black teardrop under her left eye symbolizes the misery inflicted upon her family as a result of her ancestor's act of selfish betrayal. It isn't actually a tattoo, her mother won't let her have one.
- When nobody is looking she likes to watch cartoons, the sillier the better.
Dominic Ardillo del Relampago
- Broke his arm when he was four when he crashed his Big Wheel into a tree.
- Goes by the name "NemesisZer0" on X-Ball live.
- Has an impressive collection of model cars although he doesn't have a real one. His parents are waiting on the results of his grades this semester before deciding whether or not to get him one.
- Dominic and Tessa are the only members of their family with any interest or talent for battling. Dominic never showed much of an interest in it either until Tessa's injury, at which point he promised to "go out and win her matches for her."
- Was once suspended in middle school for a prank pulled with some other students that involved many canisters of whipped cream and an unpopular teacher's car whose window had been left cracked open due to the heat.
Skylar Ferrotti
- Her father is very bigoted towards electric types. Though she doesn't share his narrow-minded sentiment, she's lied to him thus far and told him that Dominic is a growlithe. She's afraid he'll have her removed from the team if he finds out the truth.
- Professes to be straight but if pressed will admit to being a bit bi-curious (ok maybe more than "a bit").
- Although definitely a party girl she's also exaggerated some of her exploits. She isn't quite as wild as she claims to be.
- Despite her fondness for showing them off she's a little self-conscious about her breasts and wishes they were a little bigger. She also wishes she were better proportioned all around.
- She thinks she's better suited to being a team leader than Dominic but doesn't really want the responsibility so she stays quiet about it. Even still she acts as something of a "field commander".
Zachary Gircoli
- Hasn't actually told anyone about the fact that he stands to inherit millions when he turns eighteen, not even his own teammates. He doesn't want any friendships he makes at the academy to be tainted by such knowledge.
- Has caught a lot of opponents and teachers alike by surprise with how good of a battler he really is if he can actually muster up the motivation. Problem is that he usually just doesn't care enough to do so.
- Zach's "smoking up" started as an attempt to get the angry voices in his tail-head to quiet down.
- In addition to his motivational problems Zach also has some self-esteem issues. He has a crush on a few girls at the academy but doesn't act on them because he's sure they'd have no interest in him.
- A lot of Zach's "braindead stoner" act is just that, an act. He's a lot smarter than he lets on but doesn't really want a lot of pressure to succeed academically so he tries not to get people's expectations up.
Neve Oscadreja
- A part of her attitude is actually to mask some insecurities and guilt that she has about being a bit of a problem child when she was younger. She kind of has the feeling that she doesn't really deserve to be at the academy.
- The first time she got her ear pierced was an accident involving a nail gun (don't ask). Long after she calmed down she figured she might as well put an earring in it. The rest just followed over time.
- Her claws and bangs aren't always painted/dyed pink, sometimes she'll use other colors like purple or turquoise. But pink is her favorite.
- Neve is slightly nearsighted and probably needs glasses but she refuses to wear them or bother with contacts.
- Neve and her deceased brother were very close and she misses him terribly. Sometimes she'll cry herself to sleep thinking about him.
Tessa Adrillo del Relampago
- First became interested in arena battling when she won tickets to Battlemania XXIII in a radio contest when she was nine years old. She got to go backstage and meet some of the fighters, one of which told her that if she worked and trained hard, he would let her have a match with him when she was old enough and ready. She intends to hold him to it.
- Used to have contests with Dominic about who could put the most hot sauce on a taco and then go the longest without taking a drink. She usually won.
- Tessa drives a customized van that she's had a fair amount of detail work done to. She jokes that the real reason she drives a van is so that she can make out in the back of it. But is only sort of joking.
- Her favorite song is "Daydream Believer" but good luck getting her to admit it.
- One of the overlooked problems since her accident is that she's prone to backaches since she can't stand up and stretch it out properly, so she's a complete sucker for a good backrub. By her own admission a guy who can give a good backrub can get her to melt faster than anything.
Eddie Fane
- Has a half-sister that his father has never told him (or his mother) about. (Incidentally his parents were never married.)
- Zap has been courting him to join the school's pokeball team for a good long while but Eddie has always refused. He's actually afraid he won't be any good at it since the only experience he has at pokeball is the video game variety.
- He has a bookcase full of role-playing game books in his room and has pretty much memorized all of them. Yet he can't for the life of him get the periodic table straight for chemistry class.
- Eddie hasn't given any thought to what he's going to do after graduation. At all.
- Wishes more people would try to draw him.
Rylai Summers
- Once took a bet that she couldn't sit through an entire episode of Sex & the City without either throwing something through the TV or throwing it out the window. She paid up twice after doing both.
- Her first tattoo was the armband around her left bicep. She did it herself over several days during the winter when she could cover it up with long sleeves and a jacket so her parents wouldn't know until it was too late. When they did find out they were surprisingly fine with it, but insisted that if she got any more to let a professional do it. She still isn't sure of what to make of that.
- Rylai was much more cheerful when she was young and was a member of a youth choral group. She's tried to destroy all records of such but her parents take care to keep the home movies secreted away.
- As much as she rants and raves about them a lot of her troublemaking is an effort to get her parents' attention, as they've always been too wrapped up with work to really pay much attention to her. So if she can't get their approval, she'll instead do her best to spread her own disapproval.

- Once spent a night in jail. But it was because she wore herself out playing while being pup-sat by her policemon dad at the police station. He put her on one of the cots in an empty holding cell to take a nap but just let her sleep through the night while he pulled an extra overnight shift.

Methelza Muma
- Is the only member of Team Jet who lives in one of the campus dorms. She has had a few roommates over the years but none of them have lasted more than a week without demanding to be moved.
- Is left-handed.
- Transferred to the P.C.A. just prior to the start of her sophomore year. She attended the Johto Battle Academy during her freshman year but withdrew when her mother got into a rather heated argument with the principal of that school.
- The distinctive black teardrop under her left eye symbolizes the misery inflicted upon her family as a result of her ancestor's act of selfish betrayal. It isn't actually a tattoo, her mother won't let her have one.
- When nobody is looking she likes to watch cartoons, the sillier the better.
Dominic Ardillo del Relampago
- Broke his arm when he was four when he crashed his Big Wheel into a tree.
- Goes by the name "NemesisZer0" on X-Ball live.
- Has an impressive collection of model cars although he doesn't have a real one. His parents are waiting on the results of his grades this semester before deciding whether or not to get him one.
- Dominic and Tessa are the only members of their family with any interest or talent for battling. Dominic never showed much of an interest in it either until Tessa's injury, at which point he promised to "go out and win her matches for her."
- Was once suspended in middle school for a prank pulled with some other students that involved many canisters of whipped cream and an unpopular teacher's car whose window had been left cracked open due to the heat.
Skylar Ferrotti
- Her father is very bigoted towards electric types. Though she doesn't share his narrow-minded sentiment, she's lied to him thus far and told him that Dominic is a growlithe. She's afraid he'll have her removed from the team if he finds out the truth.
- Professes to be straight but if pressed will admit to being a bit bi-curious (ok maybe more than "a bit").
- Although definitely a party girl she's also exaggerated some of her exploits. She isn't quite as wild as she claims to be.
- Despite her fondness for showing them off she's a little self-conscious about her breasts and wishes they were a little bigger. She also wishes she were better proportioned all around.
- She thinks she's better suited to being a team leader than Dominic but doesn't really want the responsibility so she stays quiet about it. Even still she acts as something of a "field commander".
Zachary Gircoli
- Hasn't actually told anyone about the fact that he stands to inherit millions when he turns eighteen, not even his own teammates. He doesn't want any friendships he makes at the academy to be tainted by such knowledge.
- Has caught a lot of opponents and teachers alike by surprise with how good of a battler he really is if he can actually muster up the motivation. Problem is that he usually just doesn't care enough to do so.
- Zach's "smoking up" started as an attempt to get the angry voices in his tail-head to quiet down.
- In addition to his motivational problems Zach also has some self-esteem issues. He has a crush on a few girls at the academy but doesn't act on them because he's sure they'd have no interest in him.
- A lot of Zach's "braindead stoner" act is just that, an act. He's a lot smarter than he lets on but doesn't really want a lot of pressure to succeed academically so he tries not to get people's expectations up.
Neve Oscadreja
- A part of her attitude is actually to mask some insecurities and guilt that she has about being a bit of a problem child when she was younger. She kind of has the feeling that she doesn't really deserve to be at the academy.
- The first time she got her ear pierced was an accident involving a nail gun (don't ask). Long after she calmed down she figured she might as well put an earring in it. The rest just followed over time.
- Her claws and bangs aren't always painted/dyed pink, sometimes she'll use other colors like purple or turquoise. But pink is her favorite.
- Neve is slightly nearsighted and probably needs glasses but she refuses to wear them or bother with contacts.
- Neve and her deceased brother were very close and she misses him terribly. Sometimes she'll cry herself to sleep thinking about him.
Tessa Adrillo del Relampago
- First became interested in arena battling when she won tickets to Battlemania XXIII in a radio contest when she was nine years old. She got to go backstage and meet some of the fighters, one of which told her that if she worked and trained hard, he would let her have a match with him when she was old enough and ready. She intends to hold him to it.
- Used to have contests with Dominic about who could put the most hot sauce on a taco and then go the longest without taking a drink. She usually won.
- Tessa drives a customized van that she's had a fair amount of detail work done to. She jokes that the real reason she drives a van is so that she can make out in the back of it. But is only sort of joking.
- Her favorite song is "Daydream Believer" but good luck getting her to admit it.
- One of the overlooked problems since her accident is that she's prone to backaches since she can't stand up and stretch it out properly, so she's a complete sucker for a good backrub. By her own admission a guy who can give a good backrub can get her to melt faster than anything.
Eddie Fane
- Has a half-sister that his father has never told him (or his mother) about. (Incidentally his parents were never married.)
- Zap has been courting him to join the school's pokeball team for a good long while but Eddie has always refused. He's actually afraid he won't be any good at it since the only experience he has at pokeball is the video game variety.
- He has a bookcase full of role-playing game books in his room and has pretty much memorized all of them. Yet he can't for the life of him get the periodic table straight for chemistry class.
- Eddie hasn't given any thought to what he's going to do after graduation. At all.
- Wishes more people would try to draw him.
Rylai Summers
- Once took a bet that she couldn't sit through an entire episode of Sex & the City without either throwing something through the TV or throwing it out the window. She paid up twice after doing both.
- Her first tattoo was the armband around her left bicep. She did it herself over several days during the winter when she could cover it up with long sleeves and a jacket so her parents wouldn't know until it was too late. When they did find out they were surprisingly fine with it, but insisted that if she got any more to let a professional do it. She still isn't sure of what to make of that.
- Rylai was much more cheerful when she was young and was a member of a youth choral group. She's tried to destroy all records of such but her parents take care to keep the home movies secreted away.
- As much as she rants and raves about them a lot of her troublemaking is an effort to get her parents' attention, as they've always been too wrapped up with work to really pay much attention to her. So if she can't get their approval, she'll instead do her best to spread her own disapproval.
- Rylai speaks with a very heavy "street" accent and slang but her normal speaking voice actually has a rather pleasant Southern twang to it. Or it would, if she ever used it.
Sherilyn Voltaire
- Is the oldest of three children. Her younger brother will be attending the P.C.A. as a freshman next year.
- Doesn't like to swim but owns a good number of swimsuits. She almost collects them.
- Although known for her heavy accent it's actually softened since she began at the academy. When she began her freshman year she barely spoke any English at all.
- Although she carries herself as very upper class and sophisticated Sherilyn has a weakness for bad, cheesy sci-fi and horror movies. She was introduced to such by her former teammate Eddie but despite her dismissive "Zis ees stupid, how can you watch zis... crap?" remarks she now owns a larger collection of such movies on DVD than he does. All hidden safely away, of course.
- Sherilyn drinks a fair amount, her aunt has no objection to such and there is usually an abundance of wine or other spirits at her house. Usually Sherilyn is good about showing restraint but there have been a couple of times when she's had to take a sick day from school because she had a massive hangover. (Not that her aunt mentions this when she calls in of course.)

Hard to say, given that as a living ghost she's more or less immortal. Her aging process isn't really based on chronological measures, but proportionately she would be about 17.

Oh a lot. Unless she popped up in a major goth hangout, then she might not even be noticed.

Geez, who's to say what's "normal" for a living ghost in a poke-world? For her type? She's pretty abnormal. She came into existence and matured entirely in the realm of mortals, which is extremely rare and somewhat shunned by other ghost types. And then there's those chains...
+ What would be his/her most recognizable feature(s)? +
The long hooked chains bonded to her wrists. She can't remove them, and they're pretty distinctive. Her mother has them too but she isn't nearly as open about displaying them. Methelza seems to flaunt them where the rest of her family views them with some shame.
+ Would you consider your OC as attractive? +
I've been told that she's pretty hot for a ghost.

Usually Methelza is too sullen and brooding to be truly angry. That doesn't mean she isn't capable. She's very scary when she's angry. VERY scary.

She doesn't take orders but isn't the type to go around giving them either. She's more of a lone wolf. Does what she wants without much concern for the whims of flash in the pan short lived mortals.
+ What is the main aspect of her personality? +
A very sullen and scheming girl with an agenda. She's a user, no doubt. She tends to evaluate everyone based on how they can be of use to her and her goals. Not exactly the warm and fuzzy type.

She has an immediate family, her mother. Can't really call her "alive" though. Nobody is really sure what happened to the rest of her ancestors, whether or not they're alive, dead, somewhere in between, or neither. Methelza's mother never talks about them and Methelza has never really cared to ask.

She was born into servitude to an elder spirit because of a pact that she had nothing to do with. Nah, nothing traumatic there.

She's the most "visual" of my characters, that is when I picture her fighting it's very "cinematic" if that makes sense.

- She's paranoid that the elder spirit that she's indebted to will find out about her dealing behind his back and the consequences thereof.
- She doesn't really like or trust anyone, which leads to reciprocal feelings. Ironically her motivation and cause is just and noble, and there are probably lots of people who would help her achieve it, but she's just too sullen and distrustful to ever allow it.
- She focuses on long-term goals and her grand plan so much that she ignores lots of opportunities that pass right under her nose. Well if she had a nose...
+Strengths? +
- Methelza is cunning, conniving, and underhanded as all get out. Great qualities in a fight. Lots of others view her as the weakest member of Team Jet, but that's mainly because the others are so physically dominant. But Methelza is more than capable of throwing down with the best of them.
-Her ability to control and manipulate those chains on her wrist, something completely out of the norm, never fails to catch opponents off guard. It's just not something that they've ever had to deal with before, and not something you can learn in any classroom.
- She's strengthened by feelings of depression and angst. And she's in high school. Do the math.

She has a large collection of truly terrible horror movies, the sort of embarrassing schlock that late-nite cable would be ashamed to show. It's the closest thing to a comedy you'll ever catch her watching.

She's scared to death of the elder spirit that pretty much has the rights to her soul. She's afraid he'll find out about her efforts to overthrow him which leads her to be much more secretive than she really needs to be.

No, chickens are too dumb to know fear.

PCA - So what's it all about?
Posted 18 years agoI've seen several PCA-related questions pop up lately (if you're reading this I assume you know what that is) that collectively we haven't really had a good answer for, such as what's the big picture and what's the world like as a whole. I've gone back and compiled info from comments, journals, conversations, and what have you and gone over it with some others, so here we are. Questions, comments, and discussion welcome before all this gets made "official".
The Pokemorphs of this world are essentially highly evolved genetic offshoots of the Pokemon that we know. Nobody knows how they came to be but there are stories of an ancient, now extinct creator that created them and instilled in them their love of battle. However these stories are regarded as myths and legends, much like we view the ancient Olympians today.
The society of these Pokemorphs is not dissimilar to our own, albeit with a much greater variety to the inhabitants. There are doctors, lawyers, radio personalities, computer programmers, farmers, and so forth, but no profession is held in as high a regard as the Battler. Pokemorphs have an inborn and cultural love of battle. Imagine soccer to the Europeans and South Americans, football and baseball to North America, and the traditions of sumo and other martial art forms to Asia. Then multiply all of this many times over. The Pokeball is a symbol of the battle itself, worn by those who are or aspire to be among these elite warriors. Or worn as a fashion accessory, but the traditionalists really hate that.
Certainly there are a great number of amateur, Sunday afternoon battlers. Just like we have company softball games and quick games of hoops in the park. But the professionals are a rare breed, held in highest regard. The world champion is honored above all others, with near limitless fame and influence. Anyone who battles professionally aspires to this position. In order to provide order and structure, there are a number of battle leagues throughout the world. Some great in influence and prestige, some small. They all have their own "flavor", own house rules, and own traditions, and rivalries between them are very common. Participants in the grand tournament held every year are taken from these leagues, and for a Pokemorph to be invited as a true independent, he or she would have to be something special indeed.
In order to train and prepare young up and coming battlers, there are a number of Battle Academies throughout the world. These are the equivalent of high schools but with significant focus on training in battle tactics as well as the unique abilities that the Pokemorphs possess, with a focus on their use in battle. The Poke-Combat Academy of Higher Learning is the more prestigious of such academies, boasting not less than sixteen world champions among it's graduates in the past few decades. Tuition is expensive but a number of scholarships are offered by the school, government, and private donations. It is also a common practice for corporations to sponsor a promising student in exchange for endorsement deals should that student "make it big". It's a risky gamble but can mean a big payoff so it's not an uncommon practice.
The various professional Battle Leagues look to these academies for new and upcoming talent, much like professional sports recruit from college. The students engage in fierce competition to get the best records and make the best impression, hoping to be drafted by the more prestigious and successful Battle Leagues. So... Now what?
Posted 18 years agoThis is something I've needed to write for a while but just really wasn't sure what to say. A few months ago I basically announced my retirement from anthro and from art as a whole. At the time it was sincere, not a case of burnout or artist's block. Depression is a bitch of a thing, mainly because as they say it never rains but pours. There was a lot of bad shit going on in my life and I just honestly wasn't enjoying anything anymore. I just had the feeling that nothing mattered and nobody gave a shit, which included myself.
It was then that someone (I won't mention names) within the "community" did something, intentional or not, that just drove the point home - reinforced my idea that nothing I did was worth anyone's time, including mine. Maybe I took it too hard, or maybe it was just a case of bad timing, but I'll be honest, it hurt, and was very much the proverbial last straw.
But it's been a few months and I've certainly been busy. I figured out, I guess, that although art wasn't making me happy, neither was anything else, so why bother flushing it. I guess it just goes to show what you can accomplish when you just stop giving a damn. I'm doing better now I guess. Not great, but better.
I'll stop now before this gets any more depressing. I just wanted to thank those people that stayed there and offered encouragement.

Photoshop help needed, please read
Posted 18 years agoOk I've been having a problem with PS for some time and thought someone out there might have an answer. I'm using Photoshop 6, as I don't like the way the latter versions are laid out and it works for what I need anyway.
Anyway the problem is that when I color, I use the wand to capture the area I want to color, then do the colors in a new layer on top of the line art. Problem is that the colors bleed over onto the line art, so I have to go back and touch everything up, which is a pain in the ass.
I know there's a way to copy the line art onto a new layer and do the colors underneath, but when I try that the line art ends up very jagged and looking bad. Any suggestions? Would be much appreciated...

Posted 18 years agoI've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and been drawing in the anthropomorphic genre for I guess going on six years now. But there comes a time when you have to look back on things and ask yourself "Why do I do this?" And as of now, I just can't come up with an answer.
There have been some people who have been very supportive over the years. Shawntae Howard for one has been my biggest supporter and I'd like to thank him again for his support and encouragement. But the time has come I think to hang up the pencil and move on.
I guess I'm just tired of working my ass off on a drawing and feeling lucky to get more than two comments when there are countless others who can draw a stick figure on a cocktail napkin and get twenty within the first five minutes. I'm just tired of feeling invisible, like an outsider. I've tried reaching out and making friends with other artists and other people in the community but with precious few exceptions been flatly ignored. I hear a lot of "I'd love to talk sometime," but with a couple of exceptions it never happens. I guess it's really this alienation I feel from the art and anthro community as a whole that gets to me more than anything else, I just get the feeling that I'm not wanted.
For whatever reason I was just never able to get anything going. I've tried drawing several things lately but they all look like shit to me. All I can see is yet another piece that nobody, including myself, will care about. At best they'll look at it and five minutes later both it and me will be forgotten.
The bottom line I guess is that the work I put into this no longer equals the enjoyment and satisfaction that I get out of it. It's been like that for a while but I just feel that the light that someday something might get better has gone out. I'll leave everything in my gallery up for those who do care, but don't expect to see anything more. Frankly I just don't have the heart for this anymore.

Listed below are 20 short descriptions of how a certain villain from one of my favorite movies meets their gruesome end. The descriptions are short and somewhat vague, but this isn't supposed to be easy! Can you identify the character and the movie that they're from? The first one to get all 20 correct will get a free drawing, or if nobody gets them all in a reasonable amount of time, it will go to whomever got the most. Thinking caps on!
1) Face melted by God
2) Fired, then shot out of a window to fall to his death
