Okay looks like I am coming back.
Posted 3 years agoSo Twitter is basically A. basically no longer long for this world and B. proof on why you shouldn't put all your digital eggs in a single basket in case a Emerald Mine heir comes and destroys it with his ego,
...That analogy doesn't make lot of sense but hey. Been a weird few weeks.
Well i have clean up to do. Please stand by and bear with me.

Kaf's GOTY 2016 Edition
Posted 9 years agoOkay don't think did this last year but I'mma list my GOTYs in no real order.
Also Many of these are just game sI played in 2016. Some weren't released in 2016 and such. So here it Goes.
Bloodborne:
I have had an off again, on again relationship with Demon and Dark Souls, admiring them for there lore but never quuuuite getting how play them. Never the less I gave Bloodborne a try and something just *clicked* in my head about these games. Bloodborne's combat is fast paced and visercal but also fair. It's both easier and harder then it's predessors, as it focuses more on clsoe ranghe combat and doging over tanking and ranged combat but gives you tools to make that combat bit easier and less bullshit. It trims the fat off of it's predessors as all weapons feel distinsct with varied movesets and transformations. The Gothic then Lovecraftian feel of the setting is very welcome. I also kinda like the Chalice Dungeons but they don't hold a candle to there the actual levels.
The Witcher III:
Between Bethesda getting lazier with thier actual wide open RPGs The Witcher III is fucking amazing and feels like Skyrim if Bethesda gave a rat's ass. A massive world with tons of quests but somehow they actually made those quests good. The game often plays with itself with jusst enough quests feeling routine that when the game mixes things up it feels fresh. Many of the game's choices are a gutpunch. With some uests leaving you sceond guessing yourself. Also unlike Bethesda games this ione is mostly glitch free.
Doom:
Holy shit how? This reboot is prolly one the best shooters I played in years and understands how to doa reboot well. It captures the essence fo Doom in it's gameplay and art. An amaizng campaign filled with brutal pulse pounding action. It takes the best bits of old schoo FPS design, modernizes and mixes it all togetehr for staisfying experiance.
Gone Home:
Enviromental storytelling is bit of punchline these days. Most devs seem content to throw down a skeleton, toss a bukcet of blood on a wall and call it day. Gone Home however is an interetsing experiement. Froma writing presetive it's amazing and seriously I'm not kidding, the chaarcters feel like real people and you learn a lot from them...all by exploring thier house trying to figure out where then went. It's atomspheric and I can't get over how learn about these people you never actually meet. Honestly otehr developers could learn something from this one *glares at Bethesda*
Overwatch:
Take Tf2 and trim the weird cruft from beinga ten year olld game and the super weird cruft from the P2P bullshit and you have Overwatch, prolly the best multiplayer shooter in years. This seriously helped me care about multplayer games for the first time in a loooong while. It's pretty and well animated the cast is absolutely delightful, and the team seems reayd to support this sucker for years to come. While some issuses have cropped up i'm certain that OH MY FUCKING GOD GENJI I WILL HEAL YOU JUST SIT STILL AND STOP DOUBLE JUMPING. AND GET ON THE POINT WITH TRACER WHY SI NO ONE PUSHING THE PAYLOAD?!
Titanfall 2: oh god. Okay THIS is up there with Doom. The sequel to notoriously overhyped game, Titanfall 2 delivers with grace. A very fun c;lver cretaive campaign that never seems content to hang onto a single idea for two long (Think Portal 2 but with violence) the level deisgn is top notch and the gameplay furtehr refined. Multiplayer is great too. I'm still floored at how neatly the games two layers mesh and meet and how I'm not sure what's funner: Pilotinga big fuck off Mech, or running around on walls witah jetpack.
Odin SPhere Leiftraser:
This almost feels like a cop out. A remake of one of my fav games but it's here for a reason. Vanillaware could have just upped the visuals and been done with it and while the games visual uprgade si evry pretty ti does not end there. Given a new "Refined Mode" it drastically overhauls the gameplay into something not unlike the company's later titles feeling faster, and more streamlined with improvements to level deisgn and avriety leveling and combat. New enemies and mini bosses and even some new music. And if that urns ya off The game has Classic Mode, the original in all it's glory but with prettier graphics.
What I played so far of Final fantasy XV:
I have bene off and on with the franchise this last generation but XV something feels nice again. the franchise may have regained some fire, since I wanna gush about it for the first tiem in yeeeaaaaaars. A gorgeous world wityh mazing music, I'm actually enjoying the combat system and characters. Hopefully the plot continues to surprise me but I'm glad this game is "Final fantasy but with all the meathead party members together". Seriously this game is what would happen if Zell, Locke, and Wakka went on a road trip together.
Hitman:
Another game that is bettter then it has any right to be. Season one returns the series back to it's roots of not only high class, larger then life assassinations like James bond, but the series replayable, murder Puzzle Box style. The sequel to blood Money I always wanted, Paris surprised as one of the best levels in the franchise, and then I played Saprienza. Which was even BETTER. I could gush for hours on the details that made this one of my faves, but one of my favourite runs so far involved me sneaking around an Italian villa trying murder a pair of scientists dressed as a plague doctor. ANd knocked six people out with cans of spaghetti sauce.

rogue One
Posted 9 years agoWithout spoiling the movieYou know the complaints that TFA was basically just a remake of Episode IV?
Well...this addresses that because holy SHIT. It's good.
It's tone manages to be easily the darkest entry in the films, easily outstripping Empire and Revenge. TFA is an avdneture story. This is a war movie, through and through.
also there's a character whose straight out of a Kurosawa movie and I love it.

I can't believe this needs to be said
Posted 9 years agoBut if you're a Nazi, Nazi sympathizer, Alt-righter, Trump supporter or the like, kindly go fuck off.
I want to get this out of the way before these yucks are further normalized. I can't believe "Do certain folk count as people?" is something debated on network TV and not angrily shot down because holy shit, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!
(Related: if you think Nigel Farage is anything other thena weapons grade tosser you're in the same boat, basically. )

Guess who craked tehre phone screen?!
Posted 9 years agoI was on my way to the doctors when I triped my phone hurddling out of my hoodie pocket onto the lawn and the show. I picked her back up, annoyed and flipped he rover.
I gasp in horror, a web of cracks scarring my Nexus 5's immaculate black screen. A pit in the centre of the mass of fractures revealing a bit of her motherboard. Her wounds are deep.
Alas, Nexus is a tough soldier. She fuctions normally in spite of her wounds. Alas that pit is deep, and fear she is less waterproof. In this weather it could spell a final good-bye for her hardware.
So...any suggestions on new phones? Should Get her repaired or see if I can fix her myself. I've had this phone for two years and I'm little attached to her.

Posted 9 years agooh Tabletops and Writing Projects
Posted 9 years agoSo I've been batting around some ideas for a writing project. Perhaps a choose your own adventure style thing of an MSPA style thing with audience input. I think having SOME kind of audience input would keep me writing. Would anyone be interested in such a thing?
Other then that I've bene getting some new RPG books! SO far I've been digging Exalted 3E, as it's rpaidly become one of my favourite core rulebooks! I'm also hoping that with Curse of Stradh D&D can move away from the overused Forgotten Realms.

Metal gear Survive holy shit
Posted 9 years agoI think what's so shocking is how this is baffling but perdictable at the same time. I expected Konami to eitehr just ditch the franchise or slowly let merrcanary devs sully the franchise before we got to this point.
I do not expect the first post-Kojima metal gear game to literally be a co-op zombie game. You know, this generation's Cod-style corridor shooter.

METROID 2 REMAKE IS PRETTY GOOD VYA?!
Posted 9 years agoSeriously this is one the best fangames I've ever played. It seriously modernizes and fixes lots of Metroid 2, and boy howdy does it referance Zero Mission and the Prime games a lot.
If you can find it (And I'd be happy to oblige you) I'd highly recommend playing it. It's easily becominga favourite game this year.
