A Reflection on 2014
Posted 11 years agoThis is going to be a long journal. Sorry to say, but I want to put my thoughts down onto a forum that lets me
So here we are, 18th of December 2014. ~2 weeks remain in the year, and to put it honestly, this has been the year that has made me. (for personal reasons, Things relating to any intimate relations are going to be ommitted)
I can hear you already reader, "It made you? What is this twit on about?" Well, I'll explain. January, I was still unsold on going to university. I was hesitant to leave and enter the big, wide world, and was really just wanting to keep reliving the last year, after all, A-levels were manageable, I was going to my favorite con without bother, and the only thing i had to wonder on was what would be my newest excuse for why i had played my PC instead of doing my work that night.
Skip to febuary, and we see the first good come from me. I went to a uni of lincoln open day and fell in love. I loved the small sample of uni life i was offered, the idea of freedom and escape from where i had come from (Note: Only people who i've told about my early life will understand how this isnt a hypocrytical statement). I wanted everything uni life would give me, and I set my soul to getting to lincoln university
2 weeks later, We hit our first pause. to get to lincoln, I needed to have not fucked up my AS grades...
a DDEE was not getting me into lincoln unless I performed a miracle.
So i set lincoln to one side and then looked at my position logically, Where could i go that was good value for money, I would feel comfortable going to, and would be able to get into. Sunderland, Teesside and another place all popped up, and i decided since sunderland wanted 260 ucas points, and had the same qualification levels (skillset accredation among a few others). So I decide that I shall put sunderland as my first choice university, and plug away to get there... it cant be that hard... right?
Skip forward to April, And we reach a month that will remain, for the time being, the worst month of my year by far. I have 4 A-level topics that i am struggling with, a 5000 word dissertation to compose, and have just agreed to do grade 7 popular music vocals. I've never done a single grade, and suddenly, I'm at the one below the highest grade possible...
I swore these A-levels would kill me before i finished them, and carried on going
Skip forward to may and june, we have my exams taking place and still with a very frantic Cederic working his ass off to cope with everything.
Skip forward to August 14th. I sign onto UCAS and check to see if im off to uni, or if i need to start calling every uni under the sun to hope i can find a place
Sunderland University had accepted me. I have never glomped someone before, but my mum who woke me up on that morning was hugged long and hard.
The next month rolls by insanely fast. There are things to buy, stuff to get, the whole 9 yards, all so i can go to uni and survive.. Student finance is figured out, and eventually, September 13th rolls around, and off i go, into the big boy world and into student life.
Now i could populate this journal with a whole host of stories from my student times, but I'd make what is already a long post turn into a veritable tomb of words.
In november, 2 months after I came to university, I decided to go and meet with local furs and finally abuse this freedom I had
And it was the greatest decision I've made all year... Well, second greatest. Deciding to come to uni is still the best decision this year
Now, I sit here and type out my reflection, and I can sum it up like so: Worked my ass off to get to uni, Used that to launch my life, and the blank slate i gained enabled me to live the life i had dreamed of. I now have a large group of friends who I love hanging out with, I know alot of people and can say with confidence that i count them as good friends, and now live life how i choose to.
In 3 years time I will be in £50k worth of debt. There isnt any way round this, Its the price I pay to come to uni and live
And if the 3 months I've had so far are any indicator as to what the rest of my time will be like?
Its a price I'm willing to pay.
Thank you all for reading this post (if you did, I dont mind either way) and i wish you all the best in this holiday season, And may your next year be full of cheer!
