Posted 13 years agoSo we started arriving at the D&B around 8pm. After speaking with the Manager to let her know that we were arriving, we waited for everyone to get there. The problem was that D&B, which is usually very busy on a saturday, was UNUSUALLY busy this saturday. The place apparently had several parties, including a major event going on that took over the bowling alley until 1030.
Due to the density of the crowd, we opted to leave D&B and go get food in the food court. After satisfying our bellies, we decided that on the way to our cars to decide where to go, we would pass through D&B and could check if this had improved. When we got there, the crowd had thinned to a "normal" level, so we decided to stay and suit.
Running around in our suits, we had everyone from grown adults to little kids that wanted to say Hi, hug, and get pictures. In between those, we played various games including ones that by the end of the night had netted several thousand tickets. After taking a breather outside, we went into the bar/restaurant area to get some water. While sitting there, PSY - Oppa Gangam Style came on, and the remaining fursuiters spontaneously began dancing to it. On the second gallop, Kit and Origamigryphon took off down the aye, and galloped/side slide through the entire restaurant. All while many patrons video taped/photographed us, including one anne arundel county officer who video taped up (and sent it to us). Poor Ryuji couldn't see well enough and stayed back where we were dancing.
After that, we took a bit more of a breather, put the heads away, played a few more games and then called it a night.
All in all, while it didn't start out quite as planned, in the end we recovered well and everyone had a great time. Photos and video will be posted as it becomes available.

So just to explain things from my end... all the in planning things have been pending for a bit. Sadly, this is because the last couple months for me have been spent mostly with Anatomy & Physiology and College Algebra. I made the mistake of trying to take them at the same time. Fortunately, that problem has been solved because I was forced to withdraw from class due to the fact that I will be traveling for my work until the end of November. Anyone who knows me and what my career is... know what that means.
I am sure the Irime and Archadia will be doing stuff while I am going, but sadly most of the in planning items above will probably wait until I get back unless they want to pick up one or two. (Furgamen is decidedly my project, so I don't expect them to jump on that, and the pinball museum I would totally like to go to. ) I will see everyone at the Don Pablos meet, and if we all want to get together for Renn Faire next weekend, I will be there.
So, I wanted to update everyone so that you know that we are not dead.... just unusually quiet. Get with Irime and Archadia if you have any questions.
Other than the two meets I can make... see you in December.

Maryland Amber Alert
Posted 13 years agoMaryland State Police issued an AMBER Alert for a missing 1-year-old boy Tuesday evening.
Cesar Steven Martinez was allegedly abducted by his father, Julio Cesar Arriaza, who was last seen driving a 2006 Chevy SUV near Nimitz Road in District Heights.
The alleged abduction took place about 6 p.m. Monday and has escalated in the past day.
The Hispanic boy weighs 18 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Arriaza is a Hispanic man standing 5-foot-4 and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
There's no description of what either was wearing.
The suspect vehicle is a Green Chevrolet Equinox with Maryland license plates 7AG6950.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the child or the man should call 301-352-1200 or 911.

A proposal to CMD

As I understand the history of CMD, it was started initially by Rabid Reptile because the Maryland Furs and Baltimore Furs groups were inactive. This is totally understandable; after all if you can't get the groups you’re in to be active, then start your own right?
Well, things have changed. In the last 6-8 months both
marylandfurs and 
baltimorefurs have become active again. This is due to the fact that 
irime has been given the moderator of Maryland Furs, and 
archadia is now the moderator of Baltimore furs.
So I can't help but feel like CMD furs are a bit redundant. In reality, there are numerous groups overlapping in this area, and having three groups that are (primarily) covering the same areas is just redundant and is creating issues where meets will only get out to segments of the community.
So my proposal is that we suspend activity on Central Maryland Furs, and everyone should +watch either Maryland Furs or Baltimore Furs (or both) so that we can consolidate coverage of our statewide and local communities.
I have spoken with both Irime and Archadia, and they also feel that this would benefit the community and improve the quality of our meets overall. So much so that they both have offered to place me as a moderator in their groups. I have declined Irime's offer because, frankly, with us living together that kind of creates the same situation. While it’s helpful because we both would know what’s going on anyway, I feel that by being a moderator for Archadia, we can "complete the circle" and hopefully avoid the some of the issues with either redundant, conflicting, or just lost events. Such as
Zuckerdachs Tea meet that was supposed to happen on the 30th.
DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND - I am not tired of running CMD, I do not want to stop running it if the group wants to continue, nor am I looking for someone to replace me. I just feel that as a whole the Maryland furry community could be better served by consolidating our efforts into fewer places. I don’t even mind being a backup moderator for both groups, although my instinct is to focus into one.
So, that is my proposal to the group. Please "vote" below with "YES" if you feel we should consolidate into one or both of the other groups, or "NO" if you feel that we should continue operating as a separate but cooperative group. You can also voice your opinions.
If as a group you agree with me, then I will suspend activity on CMD until such time as its services may be needed again, although I sincerely hope that would not be the case.

Well, its been a very busy month for me, which is why pretty much nothing has happened in the group. Got married (dont worry ladies... she shares. LOL ), bought a new house, and just generally have been in spaztastic mode for the last four weeks. Right now, we are trying to get the house put together WHILE prepping for Anthrocon.
I am in contact with the admins for Maryland Furs, and Beltway furs to see if we want to plan for a mass Maryland furmeet at AC. Were hoping to do this, but it would probably have to be scheduled after Artist Alley closes.
Other than that, you can find myself and Irime running around AC when were not staffing Artist Alley (or drinking Friday night and broadcasting on the internet @ ragingdragon.org). Hopefully Irime will be showcasing her newest fursuit creation. Maybe well get lucky and shell open for commissions.
As always, if you are planning an event in the region, then please let me know what it is. Fastest way is to message my personal account at kitdrago. We will see about setting up a meet or something in the few weeks after anthrocon and before Otakon.

The rocky horror picture show meet at university of maryland went well. There was 6 or 7 of us that showed up ran around and had a good time. Then we went into the show... and had even more fun watching the cast shadowplay the movie. It was especially amusing when the girl playing frankenfurter at the end had a bit of a ... wardrobe malfunction... for about 5 mins until she realized that something was getting just a bit colder than it should have been. :SNARK:

Another free event?? My goodness! Anything goes here, even fursuits. It's a shadowcasting of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Campus is accessible via a free shuttle from the Metro, and parking's free Saturday night as well. If enough interest is demonstrated, I may to host a pre-show party at my apartment.

As you may or may not know, my birthday is on the 30th of April, so I thought I'd throw a little party at Arundel Mills Mall on the 29th! We will be meeting at Dave & Buster's near the inside entrance (the one leading into the mall). So far I have heard back from quite a few people, so it'll be fun! If we don't have enough money to do the arcade at D&B, plans are subject to change! We can always bowl (I believe D&B has an alley or 2 in the back), see a movie, or just hang! I'll be there at 11:30 if everything goes ok, and I will post a journal on my FA page where

Litter Critter update & Fundraiser Call

Due to lack of participation, we did not meet the 15-participant requirement for the discounted entry to the Maryland Zoo. I will move the meet to the same time and place, but for Sunday, May the 6th (leave your cinco-de-mayo hangovers at home please, haha!). So here is ALL the NEW UPDATED information.
WHO: You! centralmdfurs has allowed me to invite you to a volunteering and fun meet at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. For this meet, you may be more comfortable in ears/tails/paws/horns/etc. only because...
WHAT: Litter Critters! Meet me near the Zoo (see below) for a recycling and litter clean-up! I will provide gloves, kitchen trash bags, and ONE recycling sack, but YOU should provide your own gopher stick, brooms, or rakes, because I will also be paying the way for the the clean-uppiest critter! That is, the fur that cleans up the most litter gets into the zoo for FREE. For comfort's sake, you may wish to skip a full fursuit this time and wear comfortable shoes. Bring cash for admission to the zoo. If we get 15 people to go, you will only have to bring $9.75 per person instead of $16.50! All meet attendees who sign up in advance, even if not for the litter clean-up, will receive a 10%-off coupon for the Wild Things Gift Shop.
WHEN: Sunday, May 6th, 2012 @ 10:00am.
WHERE: Tentatively, Mondawmin Metro Subway Station, walking to pick up trash to Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Druid Hill Park, 21217. Furries unable to walk to pick up trash or make it by 10am can meet us at the Zoo by 11am. YOU MUST BE WITH US AT THE GATE TO GET THE GROUP DISCOUNT!

I am participating in the Maryland SPCA's March for the Animals fundraiser and I'm trying to raise donations for their animal shelter on my donation page (page can be found here http://marchfortheanimals.kintera.org/hayleythomas )
I was wondering if you would be able to post this in on the group page so I could raise some more money for this rescue and raise awareness of the event? This is their biggest fundraising event of the year and very important for their animal shelter.
