Cons I'm planning for the rest of the year
Posted 12 years agoSince I'm planning to attend a few cons that I haven't been to in a while, I thought I'd make a post about them. Dates are the days I plan to be at each convention.
July 4-9: Anthrocon
August 21-26: Eurofurence (I will bring dates again!)
September 26-29: RainFurrest (I haven't been to this one in far too long! Will probably spend a couple days in the area after the con, if certain people are willing to host me ^^)
October 25-28: FurFright

Fur the 'More
Posted 12 years agoHoly smokes this con was awesome.
The atmosphere was great, I loved the 50s diner-esque room that was the Zoo, I spotted so many neat nooks and crannies people could be hanging out as the con grows (and it will, judging by how many people I heard saying it was awesome!), and the hotel only has three floors. Three. Not seventy three (*cough* FWA *cough*), three. Heading back up to your room after eating out? Two flights of stairs to go up, tops. Need to de-suit and take a shower? The elevator will be there in a jiffy, since 1/3rd of the attendees will never use one, what with their rooms being on the ground floor and all. I cannot overstate how wonderful it is to have a hotel that is wide instead of tall, and Fur the 'More joins the ranks of cons like RainFurrest and ConFuzzled (two of my favorite cons, btw) with their short, wide hotels.
Add in the fact that staff was wearing ears and tails (their idea!), and that the vice chair is now a hotel employee, and I think we've got a con-hotel relationship here that's on its way to FC-Doubletree or EF-Ringberg levels. Good relationships mean cons that are allowed to do more things. :D
Seeing a bunch of the TFS/Furbowl peeps was also a treat, because even though I get to see them on a monthly basis, it's nice to get more than four hours of it at once! I also got to see
sandalwood and 
seikoesquepayne again, which I loved. Them not being able to make it up to Furbowls that often and me not having a car means that we don't get to see each other nearly as often as I'd like. Waking up to 
yappyfox bouncing at the foot of my bed was also a new experience (nice to meet you, by the way, Yappy!). :p
Being less than a three hour drive away was just icing on the cake. Definitely going to be hitting this one up over and over again!

I'm heading down with
t-rose and 
Kobura early tomorrow (Thursday) morning, with the hopes that we'll get in not-too-late at night the same day. We're all staying at the main hotel with

Posted 12 years agoThe time I spent by myself this weekend was measured in minutes.
On Friday, t-rose took 
Sparkz and I out to dinner at Dunderbak's, since Sparkz will soon be moving near Hazleton for his new job, and it was great to have that one more last-minute "hey let's all meet up and do something!" thing with him before he goes.
Then on Saturday, there was another one of
AboxofDeth and 
bmagus's awesome parties at their place, which I had been looking forward to, and there were a lot more new (to me, at least) faces than usual, this time (along with the now-usual smattering of Mars products to take home). And despite being up until nearly 3 AM and waking up at 7:30 (to get back to Lehigh Valley in time for Rose's shift and my errands), it was perhaps the most energetic morning I've had in weeks. owo
Sunday was a very happy surprise.
Fairfox messages me out of the blue to go play disc golf with him, Lupine, and 
Ferric, and it was...interesting. The getting a little exercise outdoors and being with friends part was a good time, as it always is, but the fog that pervaded the course made it very hard to figure out where we were supposed to throw, or even follow our discs in the air after we threw them! :p After playing the 18 holes, we went back to Fox Farm, had a taste of 
icepaws's delicious stromboli that he had just made, watched a movie, and finished off the night with a nice dinner at a steakhouse.
For pretty much the entire weekend, I was marveling at how wonderful it is to have all these friends nearby that are just so damn fun to be with. You guys are the best. <3

Monty is back in action! And a shoutout to my friend Lurch!
Posted 13 years agoSo as some of you may have noticed, Monty didn't show up with me at the most recent DE Furbowl, Fox Farm, and A-Town South meets. He's seen a lot of tough use and had his head stuffed into airplanes' overhead bins a few too many times, so his head had to get sent back to his maker, 
lurch, for some repairs a few weeks ago. He came back today, safe, sound and fully repaired, and I think it's a good time to give a little shout out to Lurch, because he's been a very good friend of mine over the years. And since he wouldn't let me pay for the repairs or even the return shipping, this is my only way to get back at him. :p
To start this story, we've got to travel back to 2007, when I attended RainFurrest 0, my first Furry convention. A few months before the con, I posted in its thread on Furtopia, to try and get to know a few people before attending a con in a town I had never been in, and for a fandom I had only recently joined. I was living in Saudi Arabia at the time, so it must have seemed very strange that I'd registered for a first-year convention that would only have 370 attendees that year (the actual reason was pure, happy coincidence: I was already visiting Seattle with my mom and sister to attend PAX, which just happened to be the same weekend. RF was my first con for purely that reason), so Lurch sent me a message on the forums to say hi. Sadly, our paths weren't able to cross that year, but we kept in touch and roomed together (along with the equally-awesome
lykanthrope and 
talix) when I came back to RF the next year. I had such an awesome time rooming with those three that I repeated the experience when I did RF again in 2010 and FC in 2011.
RF2010 was a particularly special con for me, since it directly led to me having Monty. The con was an extended vacation, since Lurch and Lykanthrope were kind enough to invite me to spend a few days at their place (the Bellfurs' house) after the con, hanging out and exploring a bit of the surrounding area (SO. MUCH. GREEN.). The night after the convention, a few of the housemates ordered a pizza, and shortly before the delivery guy was due to arrive, someone asked,
"Hey, why don't we answer the door and pay for the pizza in fursuit?"
Within five minutes, we've got four fluffy critters huddled around the door, planning out a little skit for taking and paying for the pizza, and I'm one of those critters. Lurch had completed his black fox character Malaki not too long before, and it just so happened that I fit in it, so there I was. I had been chomping at the bit for years to give fursuiting a try, but living in Saudi Arabia meant I had no local furry friends to help me make a duct tape dummy and commission a suit for myself (and I wasn't so keen on dropping $2000 on something when I had no idea how long it would hold my interest). I don't think I had Malaki on for much more than an hour, but that was enough to get me hooked, and I knew this was something I wanted to do lots more of. The next morning, Lurch and I discussed me buying the suit off of him, which I did a few months later, right before FC2011. At the con, Malaki was rechristened as Monty, and he became the sign-wielding fox we all know and love today. :p
Monty and I have gone on to meet other people and attend various other cons, but these were the seminal moments of my Furry life, and I owe them all to Lurch, the best "wolf with a bit of fox mixed in" friend a fox with wolf inside could have.

Dead phone, contacts lost.
Posted 13 years agoI got caught in a downpour without shelter or an umbrella while playing disc golf on Sunday, so the phone I had on me is toast, along with all of the contacts on it. Luckily, I've got a backup phone I can use until I get a real replacement, but that doesn't have the contacts for anyone I've met after August of last year.
Someone with a 610 number just texted me with "Ill be home from work at 6pm", but I have no idea who it is! If it was any of you, send me another text with your name, so I know who it was. Once I have my new phone, I'll make another journal to get everyone's numbers again. Person IDed. :)
EDIT: You probably don't want to send your number via FA notes, in case the site gets hacked again. Once I get my new phone, I'll post another journal, and you can send me an SMS with your name in it. :3

Rode out to Pittsburgh with :mistertastee: Sparkz and
jouva. We arrived there a little ahead of schedule *gives Sparks a bro-fist under the table*, dropped off Jouva at the Westin, checked into the DoubleTree, got our free cookies, parked the car, and checked out what was happening at the Westin.
Stuff I got to do:
Gave WolfPupTK lots of hugs.
Played Cards Against Humanity with drunk Giza.
Drank ABoxofDeth's alcohol.
Took a picture with
rpolack while we were both in suit (he's the only other person with a suit made by Lurch!)

Dancing in suit (the main area was so full of chairs in the front, that I didn't feel confident that I could run back to headless on my own, and I wasn't in suit for Zing's set).
Given that the first list is so much longer than the second one, I'd say it was a great con! (and if I left someone out of the list, let me know!) Definitely gonna hit it up again and again. A lot of people say AC has lost some of the coziness that smaller hotel cons have, and I think that's true, but I think it also had a very unique feel to it, too. My feet hated having to do so much walking, but it was also such a neat feeling that we're big enough as a fandom now to take over a convention center, a hotel, and still be spilling out into the streets!

AC roomspace available! Weds-Sun
Posted 13 years agoI currently have space open at the DoubleTree (about five blocks from the convention center) from Wednesday until Sunday morning. I've booked a room with two double beds, so there's bed space for four people. The room is $150 per night, but the more people sharing the room, the cheaper it is per person!

Posted 13 years agoSo I'm hearing from my mom and sister that they might not be able to meet me at AC this year, which would mean I'd need some roommates. I'm currently booked at the Doubletree (about five blocks from the convention center) from Wednesday until Monday. I'll make another journal in a few weeks once our plans are more clear, but I'd like to know now if anyone would be interested in sharing the room. ^^

easternfurmeets friends that I'm down here working on a project at ORNL with my lab group for the next five days (yes, including the weekend), so I'm not gonna be able to make it to the Jungle Wonder meet. I'm still 100% on for the arcade meet, though! :3

Posted 13 years agoJust a little note that I'll be bringing a new fursuit prop to use with Monty at the upcoming furbowl in Delaware! It's something I had when I first suited at FC last year, but the original was broken in transit after the con. I bought the materials to craft a new one a while back, but finally got off my butt and started (re)making it yesterday. It really brings Monty's interaction level up a notch, so I'm glad to finally have it again. :3

Posted 13 years agoEDIT: The room's booked for Weds-Mon, by the way! (June 13-18) The room cost is $752.40 for all five nights, which works out to $150.48/night or $37.62/night/person for four people. :)
EDIT2: hotel room plans are currently on hold, as my mom and sister might be attending AC for a day and using the room. I'll update this journal as plans get more solid, but consider the room closed for now, sorry.
FurFright Roomspace?

I wasn't originally planning on going, since my mom and sister were going to visit me that weekend, but they can't come anymore, so I'm now free. The only problem is that the hotels are all booked by now, so I don't have a room!

My dogs were with my fiancé and got loose. I recieved a call from someone saying they were last seen being kicked into a creekbed by a strange man and child out near the Temecula area. Chinook, my wolfdog, has been recovered, but my Alaskan Malamute, Rokuta, is still missing.
Please- if anyone sees him- please cotact me or the local animal shelter or police ( we have left messages there already looking for him ). His name is on his tag.

Posted 14 years agoI'm thinking about going to MFF this year, because there's a direct flight from Allentown to Chicago and a lot of people I know will be there, but I don't have a hotel room! Anyone have space for a wolf? :3
Moving to the US
Posted 14 years agoSo, since it's coming up rather soon and I've forgotten to tell everyone: I'll be spending the next five years of my life in eastern Pennsylvania, studying for a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
Also, it's only now dawning on me how much stuff has to be done for the move. Still, exciting times ahead!

FC 2011
Posted 14 years agoJust got back from FC a couple hours ago, and it was so incredibly awesome! I saw just about every person I wanted to (even if only briefly), and met a ton more. Just so many friends all the time. It was also my fursuiting debut (bought lurch's black fox fursuit; a few people thought I was him at first :p), and boy did I ever make it worthwhile. Was in suit for well over 25 hours during the course of the con. Danced, hugged people, posed for pictures, made people laugh with my sign and antics, walked in the fursuit parade, and even went to Johnny Rockets with 
happywulf and 
diegowolffox in suit to get chocolate milkshakes! The staff loved us and the cold shakes were super refreshing! Also got a nifty Nordguard poster for free in the dealer's den and bought a few almond-scented Con*Tact Caffeine soaps for my sister.
Big shout out to lurch, talix, and lykanthrope for being awesome roommates (along with the equally-awesome sometimes-roomie 
kamacat) and just for being super-cool people in general, and I can say for sure that future RFs and FCs will most definitely be a go!

Posted 16 years agoThere are only about 4 or 5 people on my watch list who make journals or post art more than once in a blue moon, but every now and then I see the "Journal/Submission has been deleted by the user" message when checking my alerts. Are you guys just that quick at taking things down, or is this some kind of weird side-effect of how the FA software works? :s
