An update with Chirstian at Cioppino's
General | Posted 13 years agoHey guys,
It's about time I got another update going.
Anyways, there have been some questions asking about AC'12
from the Cigar Party at Cioppino's place. Some about another meet-up
and other concerning if we can go back. I will say, only a few of us were remaining left until we had to
leave the lounge. One ting was for sure, the place got crowded really fast. o.o; I was not able to give Christian a
formal thank you and well wishes b/c he was no where to be seen. I, at numerous times, have tried to contact him. No
responce.
Fortunately for me yesterday, I was able to get in contact with him....GREAT NEWS. :D
He got my message I left him on his phone and was upset he wasn't able to say goodbye to everyone.
What he did say is that it was good to have everyone come and hopes to see everyone again next year.
Even better news. The place has expanded into a group resturaunt. 3 of them. :D The website has been updated
and newer menu selections as well.
Hopefully if I'm able to visit next year, I'll let everyone know what the arrangement
will be. There may however not be any door prizes this time. <:C Budget issues.
Anyways that is all for now.
Rock On.

And so,,,WE DEBATE!!!
General | Posted 13 years agoAs it turns out, when Friday's Tiny chat ended we seem to not only get a watch, but were asked on our opinion from
a certain group on FA.
Debate_Furs asked us on The Government banning smoking in public places.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3764916/
Go give it a read and give your voice a crack at it.
Well, what I can say is that I gave our good friend
CigarSkunk a buzz
and he went right to work *snaps finger* just like that before his busy schedule.
Here's what he had to say:
What if public smoking were banned?
While individual cities and maybe even some states might pass such a law I think the reality is that we would never see the left go that far in it's war on smoking, not due to a lack of power or too much opposition, but simply due to the fact that such a ban would deprive them of too much in the way of taxes.
Tobacco taxes are a major source of revenue for government with over 15 billion packs of cigarettes being sold each year we're talking close to $50 billion in taxes on the line.
While a public smoking ban wouldn't cause everyone to quit smoking overnight, it would take quite a bite out of that $50 billion in taxes and that's something even the most rabid anti-tobacco liberal isn't willing to give up.
But the question wasn't if it would happen, instead, it was what would happen if it did.
The biggest factor would be determining how to classify "public" - what would that mean for the smoking ban?
The least restrictive definition would be any location which wasn't classified as private property, meaning that I could smoke on my front lawn but not on the sidewalk.
A ban using that definition would have very little impact since it really would only affect people walking down the street and at public beaches and parks - a petty annoyance and the most realistic possibility of happening based off of current smoking bans on the city level.
A more strict version would include private property with public access, such as outdoor cafes, outside of stores, malls, bars and clubs and any other private property which the public is assumed to have general access to during normal business hours.
Increasing the severity to that level would cause some minor economic damage as smokers began engaging in less social functions and would most likely result in some entrepreneurs forming "smoker clubs" where people would have to obtain some form of real or symbolic membership (say a $1 fee to join) which would allow the "club" to declare it's outdoor smoking area to be non-public private property (ie/members only) in order to escape the ban.
If we increase the severity level to the first steps of fascism then the ban would now prevent smoking in any area which was even remotely considered public, meaning that smoking on my front lawn would be illegal since it could be seen from the sidewalk along with smoking in your car since you're car is in a public area.
At this level you would start to see smoking decrease significantly, especially in areas in which the local police decided to cash in by issuing tickets to people who smoke while driving or mowing their front yards.
Smoking bans of this severity could possibly result in a Tobacco Party being formed by smokers, albeit it would require a fairly determined and charismatic individual to get and keep the movement started.
The final and most Stalinist form of a "public" smoking ban would encompass anywhere that wasn't inside your home or a completely fenced in yard. I could sit on my back porch and smoke (and even that's a maybe if my neighbor and the local police are assholes) but stepping out of a door with a lit stick would result in a fine worse then doing 90 while drunk through a school zone that's under construction.
At that level of fascism the fines for violating the law would be extremely high in order to make up for the extreme loss of tax revenues from people being forced to give up smoking and/or having cut back due to an inability to smoke anywhere but inside their own home.
All said I can't see the anti-smoking crowd going further then the first or second, mostly due to the potential loss in tax revenues anything more severe would result in.
Remember, even though individual fascists might want a total and utter smoking ban their leaders want tobacco taxes even more so they'll only go so far.
After reading this, I'm pretty sold on the logic and loopholes against the issue.
Thanks once again

Story Time Kiddies!
General | Posted 13 years agoYup, bee awhile since we had a story folks.
I had
fraustdogger share his first cigar story with us:
For the longest time I've always wanted to smoke a cigar and always felt that I shouldn't at the same time. Growing up with the D.A.R.E. program and always being told that smoking causes cancer made me feel like it was something never to be touched and explored in the same way I've never touched fire or stuck my finger into an electric socket. Though any fear or reservations I had about cigars were completely false, I didn't know any better at the time. Still, when I would have a moment to myself I would feel like I knew how I would hold a cigar, how I would puff at the stick and manipulate the smoke. I never had a friend or relative that smoked cigars, there's some chance it was Disney's Pete character that helped with my fascination of them, but no matter how the desire of wanting to try one got stuck in my head, it was definitely there.
At 28 years old in January 2012 I finally decided it was something I absolutely had to do, if nothing more than to just get the thought out of my head. I had no idea where to buy a cigar so I first went to a convenience store and asked for a cigar. The clerk handed me something that looked like a brown cigarette and called it a cigar. After learning that the store only sold Black & Milds and didn't have the typical thick cigar I had pictured in my head, I found a sign to a cigarette store and peeked inside to see that they sold a variety of actual cigars. This time I asked the store owner what type of cigar someone should smoke for their first time, he simply stared at me and pointed to the cigars behind the glass shelf, being absolutely no help at all. I decided to get a smaller stubby cigar called Punch: Knockout since it was medium price range and I still felt unsure if I wanted to smoke one of the longer cigars.
Though it was now completely paid for, I felt as if I had stolen something and was uneasy about the cigar in my pocket. I took it home and simply placed it on the shelf next to me, staring at it on occasion and wondering what someone like me was doing with a cigar in the first place. I spent hours researching how to smoke a cigar, how to light it, cut it, and everything else I could find on the internet. Finally when I had procrastinated enough I grabbed a pair of flimsy matches and scissors and ventured off into the back yard to smoke my dark secret under the stars. My time researching was not wasted as I managed to cut and light the cigar almost perfectly with the wrong tools. I told myself that now I could just simply smoke it and hate it and this could just be another stupid thing I tried that I never had to worry about ever again. I puffed on the end of the cigar as I finished lighting it and held the smoke in for a moment before exhaling completely. I had never tasted tobacco in my entire life, never seen smoke flow from my mouth, and as much as I wanted to hate the experience, I couldn't deny how much I absolutely loved it.
The taste and aroma of the cigar was so many times more pleasurable than my own imagination had lead me to believe, I even enjoyed feeling the grooves of the band around the cigar. I felt myself completely enthralled by the entire experience. I was a non-smoker my entire life up to this point and here I was smoking a cigar. The process felt so natural to me and I spent the night watching that orange glow on the end melt away the cigar until it hid underneath a pillow of gray ash, only to appear again once I tapped it away. When our time together ended and I was forced to set the cigar down, I couldn't help but take that cigar band back inside with me, feeling that it was much more than trash to be thrown away.
When I woke up the next morning I still had the scent of the cigar on me, pleased to find my late night experimentation wasn't a dream. I had heard many can feel sick after smoking a cigar if they do it incorrectly or don't know that they are not supposed to inhale, I was glad I knew what I was doing beforehand but I felt like there was much more research to do. Thoughts of getting cancer were still haunting me so I decided to figure out exactly how big of a risk I was taking with this. To my surprise I could see very little information on cigars being linked to cancer of any kind and was slowly learning the vast difference between cigarettes and cigars. I would later speak to my doctor, informing him that I had settled into a routine of smoking a cigar every week. It wasn't until after he told me three times that I finally understood my cigar smoking wasn't a cancer risk. I would have to smoke somewhere around six cigars a day to worry about any oral cancers.
As odd as this may sound, I never felt like a real cigar smoker until I was spending time with a friend that asked me the casual question, "How's your cigar?" It hit me all at once that it was me he was asking, that I was the one holding a cigar and puffing from it. Cigars were a part of my life now, not just something I had seen in a cartoon or a wild thought in my mind. I remember answering him as he if was asking about my feeling on cigar smoking in general, telling him it was, "Good, very, very good."
It is now July 2012 and I have been a cigar smoker for over six months. I own a proper cutter, lighter, and several varieties of cigars that I keep in my humidor. While I do still smoke alone on occasion, I am often smoking my weekly cigar in the hot tub with a good friend. It has been a fun process to smoke through sampler packs and slowly learn how each cigar varies in flavor and aroma, getting a better idea of what I like with each smoke. Not only did I keep the band of the first cigar I ever smoked, but I continue to collect them and keep them in a book. Every time I open it and see that first band I'm reminded of that first experience. I wish I knew more and I figured this out sooner, but at least now I'm able to completely enjoy one of my favorite pass times and feel proud to call myself a cigar smoker.
Glad to have you part of the cigar group dude, and let your pallet explore. <:3

CIGAR PARTY UPDATE: WE FOUND A LOCATION AND PARTY TIME.
General | Posted 13 years agoWell folks erased the other journal b/c I found a place. :D
HERE IS WHERE WE WILL PARTY:
http://www.cioppinoofpittsburgh.com/
THIS IS THEIR CIGAR BAR:
http://www.cioppinoofpittsburgh.com/cigar-bar
After talking with the owner, we hit it off.
He doesn;t reserve parties, but after I told him what is going down, he lit up. :3
He'll see if he can reserve a spot for us.
The Bar area has 7 seats and the lounge area up to 35 people.
He's wondering how many of us are coming, and I told him, I'm gathering up
some people.
There is a catch folks. This is a walking distance from the convention center however. He recommends
that we hail a cab to him. The hotel across the street he says has a cab fair as well, so we can get back to our hotels. :3 It's a pretty long distance. To save money, we should go in groups. Hopefully this will be good for everyone.
THE TIME AND DATE:
Seeing as though there will be alot to do for people between the con days, it would be best that we do this on a Thursday, the day before the con, after dinner so people will have a full stomach. They do also serve food too people. :9
Most likely the time will be at 6:00pm or 7:00pm, but they close at 11pm for the bar alone. I'll be there at 6pm to be honest welcoming everyone.
SPREAD THE WORD FOLKS!!!!
LET'S HAVE A GREA TIME! :D

Bar and Lounge Hopping for the Party...
General | Posted 13 years agoI've been making alot of calls, some of them I want to march over there and punch the people in the face for having a rude attitude. >:C
UNFORTUNATELY...
Tonic Bar and Grill
Sonoma Bar and Grill
&
August Henry's Bar and Grill
DO NOT ALLOW SMOKING D:>
Tonic have outside chiars but it's first come first serve.
Most likely the what will happen is that all the chiars will be
taken from the tourest visiting to see the Furries in Action. :/
The only place that is a lounge was mentioned by
shctrooper's friends.
Still pending info.
Y'know, I never mentioned the word Furry, but only Convention.
I don;t know if it's biast they are being, but Penn. does not allow smoking in bars. <:/
As far as I know, I'm running out of options until we just smoke outside of the westin away from the doors.
IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A PLACE NEAR THE CONVENTION CENTER, PLEASE LET ME KNOW? D:>

For anyone is going to AC, I'm hosting a Cigar Party!!! :D
General | Posted 13 years agoWell members,
As it turns out a few moths ago I was talking with one of the members and asked to have a smoke at AC. So I asked a few other people for a little group smoke. As it turned out and idea popped up in my head. "Smoke Party" I am providing cigars, right? I'm also giving away PRIZES. :D The more the merrier. So I got with some more members and see what they thought. The original idea was for all of us to go on top of the Convention center roof and smoke. I first got with the admins and consultants of AC on the subject. Sadly, we won;t be allowed to smoke on the roof b/c of some fuck-head meesing around and almost falling off the roof. >:/ We are however allowed to smoke outside the Westin away from the doors. This would be good, but I don;t know if there are any other options for a party. I am arriving at lunchtime on Thursday and will be leaving early Sunday for my flight back home. It's more likely to have the party on either Thursday or Friday evening. I will work with schedules. One thing is for sure. I don;t know if there's a bar in pittsburg who allows smoking. Either that or a lounge. As far as I know, I'll be making a few notes, phone calls, and texts to see who knows what. I've only been to AC once, b/c I know some people know much more areas than me. ^__^;;;
This is what I need everyone in the group to do:
1. Spread the word on the party.
2. Send some info regarding certain things that should be done or acceptable places to go.
This will be my last con for a good while guys. I hope you all will join the party and make it a memorable one too. <:3
Just let me know.
That is all.

The Shipment ARRIVED......but there's a problem.............
General | Posted 13 years agoWell guys,
the shipment has arrived!
We got a package full of different sizes.
Churchills: Conneticut, Corojo, and Maduro
Toros: Corojo and Maduro
Coronas: Corojo and Maduro
60x6: Corojo and Maduros
The problem is that we tested each one and the only one
that meets standards is the Churchill Conetticut. :/
We are going to have to send to it back to the factory and give them a contact
hoping they respond back. We maaaaaaaaaaaay be lucky on getting back all Churchill Corojos and Maduros
in time for AC.
If it fails, there's another option, but I have to keep it under wraps for business standards. v_v
I will then have to round up some good cigars in the humidor for AC to give away.
Wish us luck everyone.....

Growing very impatient on the DAMN CiGARS!!! D:<
General | Posted 13 years agoFolks...
As the days go by and Anthrocon '12 approaches with surprises awaiting, there's only one thing really starting to piss me off. As of now there is still no word on our shipment of LEO-7 cigars for me to bring to the con. As respectfully as I am to Steven, I can't release certain information here. What I can say is that Steven will let me know as any word will come.
I will also say this. If push comes to shove I may have to scrounge up some sticks for the con. At the last minute. If the cigars till do not come in, I have to round some up. I have $380 worth for the shipment coming in for me to preserve and give away and still saving. Like I said before, I'm growing impatient for Rocky Patel and the reps of the company.
Bare with us everyone.
Wish us luck in time.

Storytime: Nalz
General | Posted 13 years agoHello folks,
It's time once again after alot of things going back and forth with a story.
It has come to my attention from one of our newest members who is an active member of the marines. As a supporter of the marines, me and Steven will have to give him the spotlight for this entry. Go ahead
nalz, say what you my friend.
I've got a few stories.
Right now I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan. I'd smoked a few times in the past, mostly at parties and with alcohol. My first cigar was an ACID, a Kuba Kuba, I think. Anyway, once we came out to the sandbox we needed something to kick back and relax with. So myself and three others started getting into cigars. This led about four more people, at least, to start smoking. We like to joke that any time cigarsinternational.com sees our address out here they get excited because we spend so much money on them.
Now we needed some place to smoke, once it started getting cold, that allowed us to stay warm and comfortable. So we built a smoke pit. Some HESCO barrier, 2x4s, ply wood, safety wire and roofing later we had a, mostly, waterproof smoke pit. There were about three versions before we got to where we are now, each one needing improvement. Mostly because the roof leaked and ruined our Spades playing table. Once it was built we put in two arctic rated, diesel burning heaters and we were set.
It is practically a daily ritual that we smoke and play Spades after work. We have room for about 8 with seats inside and a large table we built for the cards. Had to scrounge some sandpaper to make it a proper card playing table. Unfortunately, there is no felt in this country to make it legit.
Over time we've added ash trays. Some purchased from the local bazaar shops (for way too much money) and some that we got online.
I have 3 humidors myself but one of them doesn't hold humidity above 59%, unfortunately. That one is also the Armada humidor that you get when you order the $500 Man 'O War Armada chest. Yes, we got one and split it 4 ways. It took 2 months to get, due to back order, over the Christmas season. It was a glorious day when it arrived! One of my humidors was given to me by another fur that's out here. Said he was quitting smoking. More for me! Thing was full of dozens of different Gurkha's and other things. It had at least 40 cigars in it.
So far, in 4 months, I would say I have spent, at minimum, $600 on cigars and cigar related ephemera.
If you have ever seen the Drew Estate Egg (Look it up if you haven't) the smoke pit also held the inaugural smoking of the cigar by myself. Smoked the entire thing in an hour and a half without ashing until I couldn't even hold the thing anymore. It wasn't even half bad of a smoke!
Normally I just go with sampler packs so that way I get to sample lots of cigars without spending a lot of money. However, I will smoke anything Drew Estate and most likely enjoy it. I have tried almost every ACID cigar there is. So far I would say my favorite Drew Estate is the Java Mint. That thing was delicious! First inch felt like having a breath mint in your mouth while sucking on a chocolate truffle. NUBs are also a favorite of mine, including the Cain NUBs. Recently smoke a Cain NUB F (Ligero) and that thing was strong!
For a while I was keeping a spreadsheet of all the cigars I've smoked, comments on them and a little 1-10 rating system. I stopped updating it a while ago, however.
Phew, I think that's all I got for now.
That's all we needed to hear. Good job soldier. *salutes*
Keep up the good fight good sir.
If you guys have a story, please let us know. Note us.

Farewell Allen. Best of luck to you.
General | Posted 14 years agoIt has been notified that a cigar sales rep Allen, who has represented Oliva Family Cigars, has now gotten a more paying platoon in the company. This means that he will be leaving a certain area of the US branch to another branch. This would mean that he would be leaving our section to move on and rep at the eastern part of the US. I woke up to have Stephen text me he was leaving. As it turns out he left me a couple of Oliva sticks as a goodbye present. I never got to say goodbye and wish him luck. He was a real delight and was a very friendly face to the Cigar Family. Allen, I really miss you and the best of luck in the Co.
NOW AS FOR THE REST OF YOU MEMBERS, I HAVE A SIMPLE REQUEST FOR ALL OF YOU!!!! >:C
IF YOU LIVE ON THE EAST COAST OF THE US, TALK TO YOUR CIGAR SHOP OWNERS ABOUT AN OLIVA REP NAMED ALLEN. IF YOU HAPPEN TO MEET ALLEN HIMSELF OR BY CHANCE BE SURE TO GIVE HIM THIS MESSAGE:
" ADAM FROM LAKE CHARLES, LA. REALLY MISSES YOU AND HOPES THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD FUTURE WITH THE NEW POSITION. ALSO TO MAKE SURE THE PERSON WHO GIVES YOU THIS MESSAGE (THIS MEANS YOU) TO BE GIVEN THE BEST OLIVA TREATMENT NOT ONLY B/C THEY ARE MY FRIENDS, BUT TO SHOW THAT HE WON'T BE FORGOTTEN FOR HIS GOOD WORK."
Best of luck to you Allen. We at the Cigar Club miss you.
