Well, most likely anyways. Ultrasound gender check is kind of "Can we find a tiny little wiener? No? I guess it's a girl then." but it's possible they just missed it. It's still like 90% a girl. Thems good enough odds for me.
Second trimester is a walk in the park compared to the first one where I was constantly exhausted on a level I didn't know was possible without 12 hours of hard manual labor. I'm also pretty sure I have gotten off easy on this pregnancy, since mood swings and ridiculous cravings have both been kept to a minimum, and my husband is uncommonly generous and doting. Third trimester starts in about a month. The internets and several books have led me to believe that is the hard part, what with getting an average of 10 kicks an hour, the baby running out of tummy space and taking up valuable lung and bladder real estate, a complete loss of my old center of gravity, and a new form of extreme exhaustion that will come from no longer being able to sleep through a night from the accumulation of all of the above.
Also, baby clothes are SO. ADORABLE. You should see these tiny little socks and onesies!

Posted 16 years agoTomorrow I turn 25. This is officially OLD. I will be closer to 30 than I am to 20! It is a daunting realization for me. However, I have already got some awesome swag. The New Super Mario Bros Wii, And Another Thing, the 6th entry to the Hitchhikers Guide trilogy, some baby clothes, and a stuffed Yoshi. I still have dinner with The Mothers (my mom, and my mother-in-law, both of which are prone to excessive gift-giving) coming this week. I fully expect clothes or cash. I am happy with both, honestly.
We went to go see Astroboy tonight in celebration of my birthday. For those of you who don't know, when I was a kid, I was OBSESSED with Astroboy. I had 12 hours of VHS recordings that I'd watch nearly every day after school. So today we watched the first 3 or 4 episodes of the original series on DVD (oh wow they were so much worse than I remembered), and then went to the movie. We didn't exactly have a high bar set by the TV show. The TV show was like eight kinds of confusing and had so many unintended sexual ambiguities and innuendo, and just really really bad dialog in general (I imagine the original japanese dialog was at least marginally better written). The move though was so far above and beyond what I was expecting. Seriously, I had so much fun. The only criticism of the movie was that I couldn't hear anything BUT Nicolas Cage whenever Dr Tenshi spoke. The same with Nathan Lane. Samuel L Jackson I didn't realize was even in it until the credits rolled, but in retrospect it was pretty obvious. Regardless, I full intend to PAY for the DVD and watch it many, many times. So many times.
Also, for those who wanted to know: Baby is doing fine! I'm going in for another check up this week, and we find out the gender just a few days before Christmas! According to various sources on the internet, I should be feeling kicks by then too. Exciting! And another weird comfort is that by the end of the year, the baby will have reached the age of viability. That is, if worst comes to worst, he/she can survive outside the womb, or at least has a chance to. Hopefully that won't be necessary, but the knowledge helps keep me a little calmer.

Posted 16 years agoYeah, I got nothing going on today, and want to practice drawing with some amount of speed. It's really a problem with my method, everything takes for-fuckin-ever.
So: I'm going to take 5 sketch requests, and will only allow myself FIFTEEN MINUTES for each one. That might seem like a long time to anyone who actually has a confident hand and can put down lines really easily, but I'll be honest, whatever I come up with will probably be painful for both of us to look at.

I'm pretty psyched in general, to be honest, but most of the time if you ask, I'll just whine because though the actual process is very exciting, the symptoms really get me down. Like, always ALWAYS tired to some degree, and almost constantly nauseous.
I'm going to bed now.

Posted 16 years agoI'm back from my trip through Anaheim and Las Vegas! I don't think I posted here that I was even left, did I? Oh well.
I went to Blizzcon, watched a bunch of panels, handed out the badges I made, and tried my hand at Starcraft II (I was so bad at that game that I almost lost on easy mode). Oh, and I bought a couple blank N00bz (http://www.vinylpulse.com/2009/08/b.....-blizzcon.html) and painted one and brought the other blank one home to work on in my own time. I'll be posting pics of that later.
Then to Vegas! I met up with some friends there and we had a group vacation for a week in Vegas. Saw a TON of shows, did some shopping, lost about $5 on penny slots (over the whole week), and paid far too much for food.
Other stuff happened that I am not at liberty to discuss (yet) but will likely come to light in the next week or so.

I likely won't submit anything at all over the next few weeks, between finishing up preparations for Blizzcon, and actually going (plus an extra week afterwards in Vegas! Woo!), but when I get back I have plans, BIG PLANS.

- Opening up a new Request By Committee
OK that's really all I have "planned" for FA. But I'll also be returning to production on IMVU, and a friend has asked for my assistance as a colourist on a webcomic he's planning to start (not to mention the comic I started with a different friend ages ago, which seems to have stagnated).

Colour Fuckups
Posted 16 years agoSo, obviously, I need to tinker with the colour settings on my new laptop. I just uploaded something (a sample con badge for Blizzcon) from the laptop, and then an hour later went to show it to my husband from his computer and - WOW. It looked like SHIT. All the colours were hyper-saturated and the contrast was much, much more than I had intended it to be.
I've deleted the file and I can only hope I can first fix the colours on my laptop, and then correct the colours in the image to be something worth looking at.

Request by Committee - progress report
Posted 16 years agoSo I am having a LOT of fun with this! It's been a lot of fun trying to take these wildly different items and bring them together into one coherent picture has been an exercise in creative thinking. Sure, I could have just said "the chimera chick is sitting on a GIANT d20 in the middle of a submarine with 1940's German propaganda posters all around" and called it a day. But where's the context? The story? The space/time vortex plot hook? I am afraid to say, I couldn't find a way to make the picture "adult" without making it even more confusing, but it will be "mature!" At least as far as I understand the concepts -- Adult involves sex explicitly or implicitly, while mature is exposed naughty bits according to my own definitions.
Maybe I'm over-reaching. Maybe I'm reading more into the project than I should be. But I really think it'll be much better this way. If I get a good reaction on the finished product, I'd like to make this a regular project of mine because this is WAY fucking better than anything I could have come up with on my own.
Current eta: Sunday night, at the earliest. Tomorrow is a busy, busy day and I don't even know if I'll have time to turn my computer on, let alone dedicate a few hours to drawing.
Current status: I've got the general scene layout blocked out, the primary character's anatomy mostly figured out (still tweaking some proportions), and the costume vaguely designed (trying to find an attractive and sexy mix between harem girl and leather fetish is also an interesting exercise!).
Maybe I'm over-reaching. Maybe I'm reading more into the project than I should be. But I really think it'll be much better this way. If I get a good reaction on the finished product, I'd like to make this a regular project of mine because this is WAY fucking better than anything I could have come up with on my own.

I'm going to let the people who read my journal - whether you watch me or just stumbled across me, it doesn't matter - define the next picture I draw. I'm going to list off the basic elements that describe a picture, and once each of those elements has something in it, I'll draw it. First post, first pick, but each person can only pick one category to fill in (you also don't have to pick in order, if you have an idea for a species before a gender has been identified, that's cool). You can comment without picking a category, but I'd rather you didn't, at least for the first post :3

3. You reply to my reply, and you have the choice of answering your own question or mine (hey I can't expect everyone to be an open book, so you can pick the lesser of two embarrassments if it comes down to it)
4. (optional) It would be super-cool if you could repost this to your own journal so that I can read all the things people ask about you and learn all about you too!

Posted 16 years agoOK leap of faith here, folks. I've never offered my drawings up for commission because I never have believed I'm good enough. I don't know if I believe so now, but I guess there's only one way to find out!
So here's the structure I'm using for base pricing, but please send me a note to discuss details.
Sketches - $10
Plain inks - $15
Solid/base colours - $20
Full shading/highlights - $30
Things that will increase price from the base, and some examples of how much it might cost:
Background - $5-10
Extra characters - $5-15
"Mature" or complex poses - $5-10
I'm going to make myself available for 1 commission at a time until I can better judge how much of an interest there is and how much time I can make for commissions. If there is any need for it, I may roll out a waiting list.
