COMMISSIONS TEMPORARILY CLOSED!
Posted 7 years agoSorry folks, but I've got an estimated six-week backlog in my queue right now (though I appreciate that so many people want art from me!), so in order to catch up and shorten those wait times again, I will not be accepting commissions until mid-September! Thank you for your understanding!
NO STREAM WEDNESDAY!
Posted 7 years agoSorry guys, but I'm gonna be celebrating a certain special day with a certain special someone! That means that there's not going to be a stream until Friday, so I'll see you around then!
Heads Up to My Commissioners!
Posted 7 years agoWell folks,
WinterWight and I've looked over our 2017 taxes, and things aren't as manageable as we would've liked. Somehow, I'm scheduled to pay $1500 back, about three times as much as last year. Bleh! Either way, it looks like in order to keep from getting reamed every year by tax day as a self-employed artist, I'm actually going to have to -limit- my income so that I stay below the "poverty" line and not have to file, thereby not losing a ludicrous sum every April. Don't worry, I've got it planned out so I can still pay off everything I have to, and still feed myself and even have some left over for extras! This just means my queue may slow up a bit.
In other words, if our calculations are correct, everything will be cool if I
a) limit my monthly commissions to a total of $800 each month. If I hit that mark before the end of each month, it means I have to put my commissions on hold until the next month. This means the queue may be a little slower, but I'll be going through it more consistently.
b) keep blazing through commissions until I make a total of $9600 for the year, and then wait until next year to start up again. This won't slow the queue any further, but may mean I won't take commissions for the last few months of the year.
c) mange to get some sort of -legit- at-home job that provides me with actual W-2's etc, so I can write off my art and commissions as a hobby instead. That'd be nice, but I've yet to hear of a "work at home" job that doesn't sound like some sort of skeezy scheme.
Either way, there's no worries yet! I still have about $300 worth of commissions available for this month, and that's including everyone who's already paid or had been sent an invoice! Just figured I'd give you guys a heads up.
Also, if anyone out there -also- files taxes as a self-employed artist and knows how to keep it from hurting too much, send me a note or something!

Vacay!
Posted 8 years agoJust in case you don't follow my streams or haven't heard,
WinterWight and I are gonna be away from home and hanging out in California for a bit, so there's not gonna be a stream until at least the 6th! Until then, try not to get too bored! See you all soon!

RockytheProcy has the details HERE, but for those of you who'd rather stay put, here's the info:
Single character, sketched: $20
Additional sketched characters: +$10
Single character, inked and colored: $30
Additional inked and colored characters: +$20
Additional props, backgrounds, special effects, etc.: +$5 and up
Series discounts: Dependent on length and content

Mid-Year Commission Update
Posted 9 years agoWell, we all had a bit of a scare with the whole FA source code thing didn't we? But you know, despite the frustration of the site going down and up and down again, I think our admins did a great job handling it as quickly as they did. Buuuuut, by the same token, this made me realize that I had no access to my commission queue and all the info you guys have sent me! So to fix that, I made a new gmail account for everyone to send their info to from now on. Prices are staying the same because I honestly can't see myself charging more until I improve.
GENERAL PRICING QUOTES:
Single character sketch w/simple color: $20
Additional sketched characters: +$10
Single character inked w/ color: $30
Additional inked characters: +$20
Props, special effects, shading, backgrounds: +$5 and up depending on complexity
Send me an email at outofthebluecoon[at]gmail.com with your commission idea and I'll let you know how much it'll cost. I'll show you each phase of the process for approval before moving on, and you don't pay until just before the picture's finished. Then I'll email or dropbox you the full-res version!
If you have references for your idea, fantastic! This includes body-types, poses, outfits, colors, etc. The more references I have, the better your commission will look! This is a first-come, first-serve basis, but I will try to get to everyone. Please be patient!

New Year, Updated Commission Prices
Posted 9 years agoI've been told over the past year that I've been underselling my art (I dunno why, because really, I'm surprised anyone buys this stuff at all). But hey, I figure it couldn't hurt to bump prices just a bit, right?
NOTE: THIS IS FOR TAME ART (RATED G TO PG-13) ONLY. If you want something smutty or fetish-y, I'd go ask
rockytheprocy. He'll hook you up.

A New Tumblr for Asking Questions!
Posted 10 years agoHey, I just wanna thank everyone who's been following me recently (and those of you who've been following me since waaaay back when!). It's your comments and support that really keep my energy up when it comes to my art! So now, on top of that, I've decided to try out a new Ask the Characters tumblr to see if we can't all have a little fun answering your questions with fun sketches like some pretty cool artists I've seen. Please, don't be shy! This'll either be amazing, or a big flop, but hey, it's a great excuse to keep doodling, right?
El Toro Costume Contest Results!
Posted 10 years agoThe submissions are in, and a winner's been decided! But before I make the announcement, I'd like to thank everyone who participated (and those who intended to participate) for humoring me in this experimental endeavor. Not exactly the turn out I expected, admittedly, but this -was- a bit different than some of the other contests that involve people writing in their entries, or simply throwing money at the screen. In any case, as Jose would say, muchas gracias!
Now, for the winner of this quirky little contest...
dracowhale's entry, which can be seen here! I really liked how he kept the idea of El Toro's original costume in mind, but changed the color and design to keep it interesting, and added the lucha mask! I'll contact you about your prize, buddy!
Not to be overshadowed, I'd like to thank the other participants:
flamingfirefury's entry here (I really like that Toro 'T' design)
dmshade's entry right over here (Gotta appreciate that effort in that embroidery), and
luprand's drawn-from-scratch entry here (this makes me laugh every time I see it, in a really good way!)
Again, thank you everyone who participated and wanted to participate. If I have another contest, I promise to make it a little more accessible for everyone!

El Toro Costume Contest! (UPDATE)
Posted 10 years agoUPDATE: Since it looks like a lot of folks are struggling with their entries, I'm going to extend the deadline another week, to the end of FEBRUARY 15TH! If you have any questions, please send me a note, or reply to this journal!
Just posting this up in a journal, just in case! If you haven't seen it already, I'm holding a costume contest for a new design for El Toro, the reference art for which can be found here. The winner will get a FREE PICTURE OF EL TORO IN HIS NEW COSTUME WRESTLING THE DESIGNER'S CHARACTER OF CHOICE! And here are the rules, again posted for convenience and better coverage:
- EL TORO IS A LUCHADORE SUPERHERO. Okay, it's not so much a rule as it is a fact. Just keep it in mind when designing!
- DO NOT REMOVE THE NOSE RING! For reasons.
- THOSE ARE EL TORO'S FEET, NOT HOOF-SHAPED SLIPPERS. They stay too.
- DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE HORNS. The dude can get in an out of shirts with collars using cartoon and superhero physics. Don't worry about designing around them.
- IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE HAIRCUT, FEEL FREE TO CHANGE IT. El Toro's kinda vain about his hair, but if it doesn't fit with his new costume, you can get rid of it.
- MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE A FRONT AND BACK. While I'm sure not many would mind if El Toro ran around with his backside bare, it's still a bit embarrassing! Provide designs for both his front and back so we get the whole picture!
- INCLUDE NOTES (OPTIONAL). Notes can help show why specific costume pieces were chosen, and can also include information not readily obvious from the picture alone!
- POST IT TO FA AND USE THE KEYWORD ELTOROCOSTUMECONTEST. Be proud of your submission! Plus, this means I'll be able to quickly find the entries when the deadline rolls around.
- SEND ME A LINK. Juuuust in case you mess up the keyword, or forget to use it. Don't want you accidentally left out after all your effort!
- DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 15TH. After that, i'll review the entries and inform everyone of a winner as soon as I decide!
- HAVE FUN. Well, duh. But seriously, you can make your design look however you want. Feel free to just fart around and make him wear a pink tutu for laughs. I can't guarantee that a tutu will win, but hey, hilarity!
So, everyone got all that? Great! If you're having trouble and need to see an example, I posted one here. Hope it helps!

Loo-sianaCoon
Posted 11 years agoSorry -again- for being so quiet, guys, but hey, good news! I've been getting myself ready to move in with a couple of friends (
skyshot101 and his boyfriend Will) over in Lafayette, Louisiana. My part of the house payments will be less than a third what I'd have to pay over here in California, and it'll get me out of the house on my own again, so woo! I'll be driving, but I should get there and set back up some time this weekend. Hopefully the new location will get me off my fat duff and back to the things I should be doing!
My sincerest apologies to everyone who's been waiting on me to finish those darn commissions, of course. I remember now why I stopped doing them! I will finish those for you all, though, and I can't thank you guys enough for your infinite patience! *slaps self a few times* Gonna get pumped, gonna get out there, gonna d things! ALL THE THINGS! And probably end up getting fat. That's what people in Louisiana do, right?

Haha, No, But Seriously
Posted 11 years agoOkay, yes it was an April Fool's journal entry. I'm not going anywhere, I'm not taking down my art. But there was still a little truth in it. It has been four months since I posted anything, and I really am sorry to everyone I still need to do something for. I can't tell you how appreciative I am for your apparently infinite patience; you -will- see your commissions from me, and soon! Heck I may even force myself to do more, considering recent (non-prankish) events.
THIS IS IMPORTANT, AS IN ALL-CAPS-I-WANT-YOU-GUYS-TO-READ-THIS-IMPORTANT
For those that don't know, I'm currently living with family. It's not ideal, but considering housing costs here in southern California, it's what I can manage at the moment. I'd -love- to move out, so... who needs a roomie? This isn't the most conventional place to ask, but I figure I'd give it a shot since we're all of like minds, right? Better than asking on those other websites where I'll be likely to get someone who might not approve of the furry doodles, etc.
BONUS: I'm quiet (introverted, really, but totally willing to do social things if it's with friends), a gaming/comic nerd, gay, have a sense of humor, in the process of renewing my optician's license which will certainly aid in helping me get a good-paying job wherever I end up, have a safety net of cash in a savings account just in case, and I'm willing to go to -you-. That's right! I will drive across country with my stuff if I have to! Also, I'm a pretty cool guy, I swear!
So, if you need a roomie wherever you may be, or you plan on moving somewhere and need an extra rent-paying body, hit me up! Seriously, let's talk details. I could use a change of scenery and roommates that can not only encourage me to emerge from my room once in a while, but encourage me on more creative things, too! I mentioned I draw things, right?
Thanks in advance, all, and happy April!

Four Months?
Posted 11 years ago...Has it seriously been that long since I last posted something? And in the middle of a commission series too, jeez...
I'm sorry guys, I really am. I guess I'm not cut out for this whole artist thing. I'd love to be one of those guys who has something new in your inbox every couple of days, but I can only manage to get my art mojo working for me for a couple of months before I tire out and drop off the map again. It's depressing, it's sad, and it's not fair to you guys, though at this point I'm sure you've given up on my art just as much as I have.
So I'm resigning myself to be just one of those people who just lurks and admires all the awesome art other people can do better and in a much more timely manner. To the people who commissioned me and have yet to see anything (four months? That's no excuse. Why haven't you guys been busting down my door to get your money back by now?), I will be returning your money very soon. To the people who for some reason were hoping to commission me, I'm sorry, but I think you'll find plenty of great artists around here who -will- take your money, and make it worth it, too. For the few who actually watch for my art, thanks so much; it was a good run, but it's officially over. Seeing my art just makes me feel ill inside now, so I'm getting rid of all of it. If you liked a particular doodle, save it to your hard drives, because come this weekend, it'll all be gone. I'm clearing my gallery just like I thrashed my personal art files already. Ugh.
I really, really wish I could be a better, more responsible person. See you around, maybe.

BirthdayCoon, and You Get the Present!
Posted 12 years agoSo it's my birthday tomorrow. (Woo!) and I thought a fun little idea would be to offer a free sketch of your choice to the person who can correctly guess how old I'm gonna be. It'll be exciting and educational! Just comment below with your guess, and I'll let you guys know who won tomorrow night! As for me, I'll be working 9-5 and then having sushi followed by brownies. Yayyyy.
[EDIT] I'm flattered you all thought I was so young, but
brokendestiny pinned the tail on the donkey with his guess of 32 years old not twenty-five minutes after I posted! Congrats, man! I'll be contacting you! Thanks for the birthday wishes guys!

Alive and Doodling
Posted 12 years agoYeah.... The title sums it up! So hey, how's it going? Anyone got any requests?
EDIT: Haha, I guess I should have been more clear; when I asked if anyone had a request, it's easier if you also tell me what the request is. I may be many awesome things, but psychic I ain't!

Pacific Rim
Posted 12 years agoDo you like giant robots? Do you like kaiju? Do you like movies that look like a live action anime?
Then you're not gonna like Pacific Rim.
YOU ARE GOING TO HUMP ITS LEG AND BEG TO HAVE ITS BABIES.
It is that awesome. ESPECIALLY in 3D. -So- worth the cost of the ticket!
I was a bit surprised that what story you glean from the trailers (giant monsters emerging from the Pacific Ocean, humanity builds giant robots piloted by two people with merged minds to kick said monsters' collective asses) is completely covered before the title even shows up. But then it gets awesome. -So- awesome. I won't spoil it, but I -felt- for these characters, from the hard-ass guy in charge to the stuffy number-crunching scientist dude, and all the bad-ass mech pilots. God, those Jaegers were so awesome. I want one. Anyone wanna build me one? I will be your love slave in between kicking giant mutant monster ass. Honest!
Also, stay for the mid-credits extra scene. Hehehe.
Honest!

Vegas, Baby
Posted 12 years agoVegas! Woo! That's where I'll be for the weekend, so if you don't hear from me, I'm not dead
Probably.
A lot can happen in Vegas, but I'm preeeeetty sure this is gonna be the most whitebread trip there in the history of ever, so no real worries! It's my friend
crowmagnon's first time there, and I agreed to tag along. We're pretty cautious guys, so don't expect any incredible tales of binge drinking, gambling away tons of cash, hookers galore, drug deals gone wrong, kidnapped exotic animals, cop car joyrides, or burying anybody out in the desert.
Don't expect them, because what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, right?

I Don't Have to Be Right
Posted 12 years agoOkay, so this is really bothering me, but because of the hour, there's not many others to talk to about this, so I'm just posting it up here to get it out there.
A short bit ago, I was talking with a good friend over IMs. We dick around, laugh it up, and sometimes talk about things that bother us, like politics or religion or big business, etc, etc. As far as I'm aware, we've never had a 'shouting match' and are open-minded enough to accept each other's viewpoints if we happen to disagree. Tonight, I think I made my friend angry, and I have no idea why.
It concerns that new game, Game Dev Tycoon, and its developer's way of discouraging piracy by having in-game pirates cause you to lose money, but only if you downloaded the game for free. In my opinion, I thought it was clever. My friend was one of the people that had downloaded this version of the game, though, and was angered with the developers when I let them know what would happen. My friend said that they were only playing the game for free to see if it was worth paying money for, but was now discouraged by what they felt was a dick move on the developer's part.
While I'm glad to know there are people out there who will drop money for something they've already played for free, I let my friend know that there's probably just as many people who wouldn't bother, because hey, free game, right? You can't be sure if someone will pay for a game or not after they've already played through it, so why not only give them enough of the game experience to make that decision without giving them everything? Of course, the companies should be pumping out quality games worth the money anyway, but sometimes they don't, and round and round it goes.
I'll be honest: I'm one of those dick people who, if I were to be given a free movie or video game and was able to experience it in its entirety, I'd see no reason to want to spend money on it after the fact. Now, I don't actively go out of my way to get things for free, mind you (except chocolate, maybe, but that's a different story). I pay for my movies and games and books and everything else like most consumers do, in the hope that what I'm paying will be worth the experience. Sometimes I'm disappointed, other times not. It really sucks when I'm out sixty bucks for a game I thought would be awesome and it turns out to be garbage, but I learn my lesson and pay more attention to reviews for that next game I wanna buy.
My dad is an animator and cartoon show director, and also votes for the Academy Awards. Because of that, he gets sent tons of free movies to review and screen. Sometimes, as a family, we'll all sit down together to watch one of the latest movies that hasn't come out on DVD yet. And after watching one of those movies, I usually have no desire to actually pay money to see it in the theater or buy the DVD afterward. Why bother, if I've already experienced it? That's why I have no problems with gaming companies putting in glitches or programs that only let you experience part of the game in hopes you'll pay for it to see the whole thing. Heck, gaming demos are perfect for that, aren't they?
Anyway, when I mentioned that not everyone pirating a video game was intending to pay money for it afterward, my friend felt I was taking a verbose potshot at them and disconnected. I'm not sure if my friend was hurt that I didn't take their side, or if they thought I felt they weren't actually going to pay for the game if they had been able to play the whole thing (which I don't! I'm sure they would have!), but it's driving me nuts now because I wasn't trying to hurt their feelings, but I can't be sure I'm not some moron who 's got a skewed viewpoint of the world and I've been spouting nonsense.
I really hope it was just a misunderstanding. I like having friends. Losing one of them because of something stupid I said will keep me up all night.

Suggestion Box!
Posted 12 years agoIt's a few weeks into the new year, and I already feel better about it! Woot! Anyway, even though I already have a few side projects going on, I'd love to hear about what you guys would like to see from me. Just drop a comment, and I'll take it into consideration! Sorry, no commissions!
...But in lieu of that, if you like the art that you see in my gallery, and think to yourself 'Hey! This guy is probably hungry from all the art he does', then yes, I will accept donations that will go toward my unfortunate addiction to chocolate, gummi bears, and pizza. My paypal is connercoon2000@yahoo.com.
Thanks for watching me, guys! It's just nice to feel appreciated!
