Daddies and swingers of the fandom, lower your pipes........

Posted 8 years agoSo its Sunday. So far my area of southeast Florida has mostly gotten the outer feederbands of Irma meaning its windy/rainy one minute and nothin the next. However the power does occasionally go out and back on again and the internet quit last night.

So Irma is coming! Argh!
Posted 8 years agoYeah its been mass hysteria here in South Florida. I work at a supermarket and honestly ive almost forgotten what a 24 pack, or gallon of water looks like cuz people are scoopin them up left and right. We constantly run out of the essentials and its insane. On the plus side my hours are goin up and up so more money for me!
As for evacuating , my county hasnt gotten the signal yet so as it stands im stickin it out. My home was built by a home building company that builds up to and beyone Hurricane Andrew Code; poured concrete, strapped down roof and metal airflow shutters. Dont get me wrong if they tell us to leave we prolly will. Were hoping that the storm goes under florida, at whicb point well just get alot of rain and wind.
But yeah to all my other fellow Fl furs, be safe, even if things turn out better, were still gonna get this storm and its always best to be indoors.

Megaplex 2017: Post Con report...
Posted 8 years agoSo Megaplex 2017 has come and gone, having taken place this past weekend at its new/old location at the Doubletree Resort SeaWorld. Its been a while since i have done a post con report so heres my attempt for this con.
So the con this year was definitely a special one this year having taken place at a full blown resort, steps from I-Drive, Seaworld, Aquatica Waterpark and so on. What also made it special was the air of "homecoming" to it as the venue in question was a former location that played host to Megaplex back in 04-05. On paper the con enjoyed a big success having experienced a 30% growth (2400+ attendees), and almost 20 grand donated to the C.A.R.E. foundatiion. And of course there was the entertainment the con brought to the regular patrons of the hotel. Being a resort the hotel was flocked with families on holiday and the kids ate it all up getting pics with fursuiters. A significant event in relation to this was the inclusion of a visiting Make A Wish foundation kid in the fursuit mingle, who got to meet the staff and suiters alike and who, according to the testimony of the staff smiled for the first time in a long time. There was also the traditional Megaplex pool party which is where the vanue realy shone with its gigantic main pool featuring a cabana bar and flowing waterfall, and a full dessert and ice cream buffet which has become a staple of Megaplex
Unfortunately despite all these plus points there were a few flies in the ointment in relation to the con, and its venue unfortunately the reaction to those issues by many of the attendees led to a less than con-ish weekend. Fortunately they weren't anything damaging to the reputation of the con with the hotel nor damaging to the image of the fandom, so nothing like the Rainfurrest, Furry Raiders, Rebel flag suit drama, however people say these issues might be damaging to the future attendance numbers of the con.
At the time of announcement of this years con, lat year, the staff had mentioned that the resort was just starting construction of a new conference area space that would add more square footage to what was there and that most of the programming would be in there. However, i learned that 3/4 of the way through the remodel, the work had to be halted then reversed and started over tdue to mistakes pointed out by the fire marshal during an inspection. As a result instead of brand new, awesome con space, the building was still very much in process so all we had in there was the original con space the building had which was the original ballroom, one of the 2 headless lounges and a panel room. As a result of that the con had to utilise space in other areas.
Now the way the resort is laid out is different from your standard hotel. Its made up of a series of 2 and 3 floor motel style buildings with outward facing rooms, a tower building with regular hotel rooms, as well as the conference building and the main check in building. Besides the conference building the tower had two panel rooms, the 2nd headless lounge, the Furshoot room, and gaming room on 2 floors and the check in building had one panel room, the registration area, tournaments and karaoke, and the Dealers Den/Artist Alley. Problem is that these three buildings are not connected to eachother nor to the motel style buildings. Two of them are in the middle of the complex and the conference center is on the east side so to get to any of them you have to go outside and walk to where you want to go. On tp of all this the Megaplex room block was spread out across the entire complex so some people were in the 2 floor buildings, some in the 3 floor ones, and some in the tower, so for some the walk was short, for others, like my room group it was really really long being on the exact opposite from the conference room building .
Now normally walking outside wouldnt be so bad. Were furries and we like to do some outdoor public suiting and entertain people. So really this crazy logistical mazewouldnt be so bad if not for prople the most glaringly obvious elephant in the room, which was the time of year and the weather. I have to agree with alot of people here. Orlando, Florida, the HOTTEST city in the Sunshine State in the middle of summer, at an outdoor resort, may not be the ideal situation for a con featuring people wearing essentially head to toe fur blankets. It was beyond Africa hot the whole weekend. Put alot of people off fursuiting. I actually didnt suit at all as a result. It would explain why there were two headless lounges. Youd have to stop at the tower to cool off before getting to the conference center and using ITS headless lounge. The staff did try to make the most of the situation by having things like the pool party and fursuit parade take place at night, which would of worked if a thunderstorm didnt come along and cancel the fursuit parade for us.
For me the con was just a mixed bag. I really wanted to enjoy the con and fursuit like i had planned to do but honestly the weather and the heat just put me off. And as i said alot of people felt this way, even saying that the hotel was a mistake on Megaplex's part, or they shoulda picked a better time of year to have it. Alot of them were loyal MP attendees. Even in my room there was a alot of negativity. One of my roomies was on the phone when the rest of us got to the room talking about how the place wasent right for a furcon and how he wasent coming back until the con moved again. Again i heard this a couple times in passing by from others. And it all realy just killed the mood for me and i reverted back to normal mode, basically letting the rest of the room dictate what we did at times, often leaving the con to go eat or do somethin on since i was the only one with a car.
On the plus side there were a few good moments to the weekend even if some didn't have anything to do with the con. My friends
antimon and his fiancee
~AriA celebrated their 2nd year together and 1st year engaged by a dinner with me and
lordnegaduck at Texas De Brazil, I got to see Majira Strawberry and Marks Barks againn and formally meet Telephone, who are all awesome people. I also got to hang on stage with Antimon during his DJ set and that was fun. And then we finally decided to perk up the weekend at the end by goin to Universal City Walk.
So honestly all in all the con itself was a mixedbag but really it was all down to my attitude and the way i approached it. Im still coming back next year just because MP is m home con and still love it even if the hotel may not be the best choice. But to be fair they did ASK us if we wanted to have the con there and honestly thats a rarity nowadays. And honestly the resort itself is beautiful! The pools are nice, theirs outdoor billiards, ping pong and Mini Golf. Next year i definitely want to be into the con more often. I want to suit and i want to hang with my friends and cuddle and play with paws and all that fun stuff i didn't do this year.
End of report...

Signal boosting a friend of mine who needs help!
Posted 8 years agoSo my buddy
burbarbeers has found himself in a bit of a financial, emotional and physical pickle. Hes had a major surgery on hisself thats gonna take a while to recover and the bills aint going away. He also has a bit of a family problem of the abusive kind, and to top it all off he lives in the Phillipines and is trying desperately to get to the United States so e can get a good job.
Now i dunno how to help much with the family and citizenship issues but i do want to spread the word about maybe helping him financially. Bur Bears, or SammyBurr is a furry/paw artist who does really excellent toony artwrk and is currently open for commissions. Honestly his work is really really good. His style is a really cute smooth simplistic toony style and he draws really nice footpaws and macro art.
So definitely give Sammy a look up and considering throwing him a few bucks or so if your looking for good art!

Winning is awesome! (and DamnDogGames signal boost)
Posted 8 years agoSo anyone who, like me, watches the furry youtube gaming channel DamnDogGames will know that a while back that they hit 10K subscribers. As a way to celebrate this milestone
coreycoyote the runner of the channel, put out an invite to make short congratulatory clips to be sent in and incorporated into a special 10K video collab, the best clip being the winner of a free DDG T-Shirt. So at the last minute, battling a bit of a less confidant feeling i made a short picture-in-picture video of me sayin congrats featuring the DDG Ford Transit i made in Forza Horizon 3.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/epypr3880.....64733.mp4?dl=0
It was okay and honestly seeing the other vids in the video i didnt think i had much of a chance of winning anyways. I was going up against more established youtubers fur and non fur alike as well as really creative people (pulling a ferret outta yer pants is VERY creative). So you can imagine my surprise when my clip turned out to be the winning one!
Im still in shock and awe that i won. I honestly did it just to show my love for the channel and really just to congratulate Corey on his and the DDG crew's success. I to love the channel alot and i recommend anyone who loves gaming and fursuiting to subscribe. It has really fun game content as well as furry con vlogs and a reading your comments section. This channel pretty much rivals Jacksepticeye as my favorite gaming channel! I mean cmon! Games being played by an adorable coyote?! Whats not to love?
But anyways i just want to again thank Corey and the DDG crew for selecting my clip as the winner. It means alot to me and its a nice little emotion boost for me! And again crats on 10K Subs and lookin forward to 20K!

Edd China's leaving Wheeler Dealers and threats towards Mike
Posted 8 years agoSo a few days ago Edd China, the mechanic of the British, auto fix/flip show Wheeler Dealers show announced his departure from the program he hosted with car dealer Mike Brewer after 14 years. Its a decision that, like the departure of the Top Gear boys has sent a ripple through the shows fanbase, sparking sadness for Edd leaving, anger towards Velocity for affecting the chemistry the show originally had when it was based in Britain and also anger and actual threats of abuse and death towards Mike Brewer and his FAMILY!
First off As a car loving American im proud to say thank you, thank you to Edd, and to Mike for 14 years of probably my favorite automotive fix/flip show of all time. Ive watched many an auto fix it show in my life, mostly US based shows like Horsepower TV, Trucks, Overhaulin, etc. Yet these shows as good as they are never really won my devotion, either being to entertainment based for me to learn or too technical for me to enjoy. Wheeler Dealers was different. It had the technical/mechanical aspect of it as the main course with a side of Mike's cocney humor and car/part buying tips. On top of that, unlike most car fix it shows, Edd took the time to explain how most of the work he did on the cars could be tackled by someone at home rather than always taking it to a mechanic or dealer. That coupled with his occasional top tips, enabled me to learn more about the mechanicals of cars than i ever did with other shows. This was helpful in enabling me to fix a pair of failing anti-roll bar drop links on my old truck as well as remove the bumper valance to get it repainted rather than leave the whole vehicle at the body shop. Ive also become more confident in my painting of model cars and my recent bike project as i learned the proper techniques from him.
Im indeed saddened by the course of action being taken, but at the same time a bit relieved as i saw the influence of Discovery/Velocity seeping in, in the past couple of seasons with more tension and scripting coming into the show. However i will continue to watch the show regardless as i do still enjoy the entertainment Mike brings to the table and i do wish to see how Edd's successor Ant gets on with the mechanical side of it. Change is hard yes, and it wont seem like WD without him but sometimes one cannot remain in the same place too long when things start to get weird. I respect Edd's decision and hopefully well see some awesome content from him in the future!
Now as far as the anger towards Velocity in regards to this i totally get. The show definitely started changing when Velocity picked up the show from Attaboy Television in the UK. But thats the way things go when a show is taken out of its comfort zone. Its not the first times its happened.
Now onto the misdirected hate towards Mike Brewer, and his family. This upsets me not just as a fan of WD but as a human being. There is no place ever for such immature and unprofessional action such as this being taken towards Mike, and ESPECIALLY his family. I honestly have no animosity towards Mike in Edd's announcement of departure. I dont blame Mike at all really. Its obvious he enjoys doing the show and if he has to do it without Edd then thats that. Its clear that Mike and Edd are still offscreen friends despite all this, Mike's call to Edd regarding this matter is proof of that. And honestly ive never really minded Mike's campy cockny attitude on Wheeler Dealers. I honestly thought he was quite funny and was the Yin to Edds mechanical Yang. Am i sad its over? Yes, of course but still respect Mikes decision to stay with the show and keep it going. Heck im sure he respects Edds decision to leave just as much as most of us do.
Seriously, we need to move on, accept the change and see what the future brings.

So the fandom has lost a true legend and a wonderful soul.
Posted 8 years agoYesterday i got the news that the fandoms own Albert Temple better known as
genecatlow had passed away from natural causes. He was 59 goin on 60.
While many of us have never met him or chatted with him like myself, im sure the majority of our fandom can say that they at some point have seen his art and heard about him from others. For Me Gene's art was something i discovered early on in my fandom days. I forget where i first say his work, i think VCL or Yerf. I remember being attracted to his toony art style and the way he drew paws (typical me). But i also admired and became attracted to the chemistry that resulted in the innocent, intimate, and all out purry activities between his black tomcat fursona, and Catswhisker, his famously proclaimed "Lady Cat" and actual RL wife's fursona, their escapades being a staple of his work. I also loved the world that he and CW created for their sonas which they shared with other furs like Kit and Kay Boodle creator Richard
Katellis and Shirlee Mouse.
I unfortunately never met Gene, nor do i even remember commenting or replying to a comment from him on his art (might have), but despite the fact that i held him high and revered him as a fandom celebrity, from what i saw and what i heard from others (close and not close alike), he always managed to be a very down to earth person willing to answer questions and give advice. It is now that i regret not attempting to form a friendship with him.
Farewell Mr. Catlow You have done your duty, and may now go home and sleep well. Rest in Peace.

Happy 88th Birthday Mickey Mouse!
Posted 9 years agoThats right boys and girls, everyones favorite Disney Mouse turns 88 this year having first appeared in his first animated short, SteamBoat Willie! Amasing that this happy go lucky mouse, which his beloved Minnie Mouse by his side has entertained generations of people for 88 years. Hard to believe he was Walts second attempt at a cartoon character having his original Oswald The Lucky Rabbit Character taken from him by Universal Studios. Also hard to believe that his name was in fact goin to be Morimer, until Walts wife stuck a pin it inat and suggested the name Mickey.
So heres to you Mickey Mouse! You been real swell!

Robin Hood was a Fox WAY before Disney made him one!
Posted 9 years agoNow its pretty obvious we all here in the fur fandom know of Disney's 1973 Animated feature showing the legendary vigilante thief as a sexy red fox. Probably the majority of the fandom can attest to this foxy interpretation as the basis for their love of all things furry. Yes, its true that there are other animal kingdom versions of Robin Hood, Loony Tunes's Robin Hood Daffy for example, and Tom and Jerry's take on the hero, but Disneys take seems to be the one everyone loves the most. And why not? I mean a fox works perfect for him. Hes clever, sly, drop dead sexy, you name it. Yet What many people may not know is that Disney was NOT the first to foxy Robin Hood.
Back in the 40s Columbia Pictures decided to take a jab at the cartoon world to try and swing with the established crowd of Disney, Warner Brothers and fledgling Hanna Barbara, with their Screen Gems company as well as the later United Productions of America (of Mr. Magoo, Gerald McBoomboom fame and one of the results of the 1941 Disney strike). The most popular cartoons to come from Screen Gems was the Fox and The Crow series of shorts featuring the refined but gullible Fauntleroy Fox and the streetwise Crawford Crow. In 1948 UPA, having taken the Fox and Crow reigns from Screen Gems, created a short called Robin Hoodlum which featured Flaunteroy as, you guessed it, Robin Hood and Crawford as the Sherriff of Nottingham...
As you can see its obvious this was never going to be as memorable as the Disney movie, but its interesting that someone else beat Disney to the fox-punch, especially 25 years before. It bring to question whether or not Disney knew about the short. Considering UPA was founded mostly by ex-Disney employees, perhaps the 73 movie was Disney's way of saying "watch and learn from the master".
Honestly i like the Fox and cCrow series. I think both characters are insanely cute, in the paw department too.

Posted 9 years agoSo yeah im totally stepping into the world of greymuzzleness. Soon ill be in in a rocking chair wearing orthopedic old man slippers, a robe and a blanket to cover my legs from the cold, telling them yonguns to git of my lawn.....or to rub my footpaws cuz THEY will still be big and fluffy!
Hehehehehehe.
Hehehehehehe.
Amasing how older stuff lasts longer than modern stuff.
Posted 9 years agoSo youve probably heard the ol saying "They dont make things like they used to". And in a way its pretty true. Alot of these new electronics may be high tech and do alot but it does seem like longevity is not necessarily the top of the list. Heck ive had my current cell phone for about two years and already theres issues like the keyboard is sorts burned into the image and im already thinking about replacing it.
In contrast ive had the same Hi-Fi system in my living room for years. Its comprised of a 1995-96 Yamaha RX-V590 audio reciever http://www.hifiengine.com/images/mo.....ront_panel.jpg
And a Yamaha CDC-555 5 disc CD player https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe....._CD_player.jpg
This system is 20 years old and i still use it as my TV surround sound system and the CD player works great. In the time ive had it ive only fixed one thing, the belt that connets the pully on the CD tray motor to the pully on the drawer itself. Over the years the rubber belt stretches and gets loose. Just replaced it with a O-ring of the right size and it works like brand new.
Im probably gonna have this setup for another 20 years. XD
