Please help fund a scholar's trip
Posted 11 years agoI have been nominated to take part in the International Scholar Laureate Program. This program would send me to Australia for a week, from May 17, 2015 until May 24, 2015, to take part in a Business and Entrepreneurship Delegation in Melbourne and Sydney. This is a valuable, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in international business practices, meeting a variety of people and learning valuable leadership skills that will assist me after I've earned my degree. Check out more information about this program here: http://www.scholarlaureate.org/dele.....australia.html
The program itself costs approximately $3,300 and I am responsible for my own airfare, with a round trip flight costing $2,000+. I also will need incidental money in the event of baggage fees, extra meals and any incidental purchases I may need to make which are not covered by the program. Any donations I may receive would go a long way toward making this trip a possibility. I will need to have the majority of the money by mid-January to have time to enroll in the program and ensure that I will be able to attend.
Thanks so much to anyone who can spare even a couple dollars.

A character meme
Posted 11 years agoI haven't done one of these for a while, and I saw it on
adamleisemann page, so I figured I'd try it with one of my characters.
RULES :
1. Pick a character you've created.
2. Fill in the questions/statements as if you were that character.
3. Tag at least four people to do this meme
4. Tell people that they been tagged with a link from your journal
The character I'm picking is Morgan (as shown here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1803771/ )
1. What is your name?
Morgan, and that's all you're getting from me.
2. Do you know why you were named that?
I dunno... I'm told it's got something to do with destiny and balance and all of that, but I don't really care.
3. Single or taken?
... Uninterested for the time being.
4. Have any abilities or powers?
I'm trained in some magic, but I'm more skilled with the martial arts and hand-to-hand combat, both unarmed and with various weapons.
5. Stop being a Mary Sue!
Call me that again and I'll make sure they can only identify you as John Doe.
6. What's your eye color?
Red
7. How about hair color?
White
8. Have you any family members?
My parents are dead. I don't need anyone else.
9. Oh? How about pets?
I have neither the time or interest in caring for some messy beast that can't care for itself.
10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.
People who ask me too many personal questions....
11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
Training and surveillance are my main activities, but I do collect cars.
12. Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?
Ha! Ahahahahah! HAHAHAHAHAHAH! Is that a serious question!?
13. Ever… killed anyone before?
No one could convict me, so don't even try...
14. What kind of animal are you?
My father was a lion and my mother was a wolf. Do the math.
15. Name your worst habits.
I enjoy pissing people off.
16. Do you look up to anyone at all?
That would imply that there is someone better than me at what I do.
17. Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?
I'm an opportunist.
18. Do you go to school?
I did as much as I needed to, then got on with my life.
19. Ever want to marry and have kids one day?
Why? Like I need loud, obnoxious cretins living in my house and using my things?
20. Do you have fangirls/fanboys?
No one knows about me and I like it that way.
21. What are you most afraid of?
Fear is weakness. I fear nothing, because I am strong.
22. What do you usually wear?
A black leather jacket or trenchcoat, and black jeans and boots under that. Anything else depends on my purpose.
23. What's one food that tempts you?
Meat.
24. Am I annoying you?
The only reason I'm still here is because I haven't found the exit yet.
25. Well, it's still not over!
Don't prolong this if you value your limbs...
26. What class are you (low class, middle class, high class)?
I'm upper class. My parents left me everything when they died.
27. How many friends do you have?
I have no use for idiotic simpletons, and I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't fall into that category.
28. What are your thoughts on pie?
A la mode, if possible.
30. Favorite drink?
Coffee
31. What's your favorite place?
My own house.
32. Are you interested in anyone~?
Love is weakness, and people are fools. I have no use for anyone...
33. That was a stupid question.
Should I expect any different from you?
34. Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?
It depends on why I'm swimming in the first place.
35. What's your type?
The type who can let themselves out in the morning.
36. Any fetishes?
Don't talk to me about your idiotic ideas of what "romance" is.
37. Seme or uke?
Seriously? If you're in my bedroom, then I'm in control.
38. Camping or indoors?
I can adapt to any environment, but I must admit that I enjoy my creature comforts.
39. Tag People!
I'm not tagging anyone this time around.

It's official.
Posted 11 years agoAs of this morning, Hunter and I are officially, and legally, married. I couldn't be happier right now.
Extreme short notice
Posted 11 years agoSo, last year Hunter and I officially became engaged, and have since celebrated five years of our relationship together. Now, the latest development in our journey together... Our wedding rings arrived in the mail today, so we are going to a courthouse tomorrow to apply for a marriage license. Provided everything goes well with that, we may have some more news coming very, very soon.
We already knew long ago that we were not going to have a large wedding ceremony, and although we would like to provide enough notice to have friends and loved ones present, we are honestly at the point where we simply cannot wait any longer, so I hope no one will mind this very short notice of possible events in the very near future.

Looking back at 2013
Posted 12 years agoSo, I've seen a couple of these, and I feel like updating my page a little bit.
So, I hope everyone had a happy New Year, and I don't know about everyone else, but I'm looking forward to 2014.
Looking back, 2013 was a very eventful year for me. Lots of things started, and maybe one or two finished. I guess I'll go over a couple of them in summary. It's good to reflect.
1) After ten years, finally went back to school. Got myself enrolled in college and so far that's going well for me.
2) On a related note, I got a new job. Same company, but new position in a different department that actually fits in with the degree I'm going to school for. Definitely liking this job a lot more, too.
3) Probably the biggest thing for me this year, DOMA got repealed and within 24 hours of that, Hunter and I got engaged. And with legislation in Illinois to legalize same-sex marriage going into effect this year, we'll probably be setting a date not too long after that.
4) I got a new(ish) car which is a nice change from the second-hand, beat-up, falling apart wrecks I've had to drive up to this point. Nice to have a vehicle I know is reliable and will last for a long time to come.
As for any negative things in 2013, I'm sure there were some. I just can't think of them at the moment. Probably because whatever hardships I faced were the sort of daily challenges that everyone has. I like to think that I handled them with grace and thoughtfulness, since none are looming over my head as I go into 2014.
I'm looking forward to a great year, and I wish the same to all of you!

The Happiest 4th of July
Posted 12 years agoHope everyone had a good 4th of July. Mine was better than normal, to say the least.
So, I made a post on my Facebook, but for those who still watch my account here but don't have my Facebook information, I'll share it here, too.
I've been with
hunterwolf for a long time, now. Five years in October. In all that time, he's always stood by me and supported me, and we've cared for and supported each other. Needless to say, my life would be much more drab and unfortunate if I did not have him in it. Hunter and I have always been very comfortable with ourselves, each other, and our relationships, and that's one of the reasons I love him so much. He sees me for all that I am, and he accepts me, with all my flaws, quirks, and shortcomings.
With the recent overturning of DOMA in the Supreme Court, the idea of a federally-recognized same-sex marriage is a much more real possibility, even if it may still be a long way off, considering the speed of our legislative system. Marriage is something Hunter and I have discussed off and on for a couple years now, but it's always been something of a fantasy, a "someday" dream. But now, it seems like it's something much closer... So much more real. And last night, in bed, I was thinking about Independence Day as the clock ticked past midnight, and the freedom that same-sex couples now have to pursue a marriage with the person they love. Not a civil union. Not a domestic partnership. A real marriage.
At that moment, something hit me. Hunter and I have always just sort of assumed that we'd get married some day. We never worried about the when or how of it, but it was just a given thing that we both accepted. But last night, that suddenly wasn't enough. We were faced with it, the possibility of it becoming a real thing, and just going with it wasn't enough for me. So, last night, somewhere around 12:30 in the morning on the 4th of July, I jumped out of bed, dropped to one knee, and asked Hunter if he would marry me. He hardly needed to take any time at all before he said "Yes".
Hunter has been my mate in the fandom for a long time now, and not even the only one I have. But in the real world, he's only ever been my boyfriend, or my partner. And until very recently, that's all he ever could be. But now... Hunter is my fiancee. And someday, he will be my husband. And I know that I don't ever want to spend a day without him in my life, for as long as I live.
I love you, Hunter, so very much. And I always will. Thank you for choosing me.

Car Dealerships
Posted 12 years agoWhy is it every time I get my car fixed, something else has to go wrong?
So, in 2011, I had my car fixed. Got a wheel bearing replaced, and the yahoos working there broke a sensor. When they replaced the sensor (free of charge, of course), they broke another part to make my car completely undriveable. The dealership where I'd taken the darn thing owned up to the fact that they f'ed up twice and gave me a rental car for free, while they fixed my car. For free.
So, now, two years later, I had to take my car in to get the other wheel bearing replaced, along with a tire alignment, oil change, some basic tune-up stuff. That was a week ago. Now, ever since I had my car back, I've noticed that my brakes have been looser than usual, taking a bit longer to respond when I hit the pedal. The car still stops when I need it to, just have to push a bit farther on the brake pedal than I'm used to. And now, driving home from work today, my brake light comes on, alerting me that something is wrong. First thing I check, my brake fluid. No, that's full and good. According to the printout from the work the place did on my car last week, the brake pads are fine, too. So, that takes care of initial trouble-shooting, as far as I know about cars.
So, I call the place up, pretty peeved because my brakes were having NO issues before they worked on my vehicle, and now I've got this issue to deal with. So, they set up an appointment for me to bring my car in and have it looked at. And if I have any reason to believe my brakes are now messed up because of something they did, you'd better believe they're going to be fixing it for me at no charge, again.
Now, I just can't decide if they're messing with my car in a direct attempt to try to milk more money out of me, if I just have the worst luck when it comes to cars, or if they're just completely incompetent.
EDIT: So, I'm missing a day of work now. I took my car out this morning to head to work, already prepared to be more than extra careful on the brakes, and I notice some kind of knocking/thumping noise, like something under my car is either too loose or too tight. I pull over and look under my car, but my untrained eye can see nothing hanging down, or looking like it's in a condition it shouldn't be in. But, I don't feel safe driving this thing all the way to work. I can't help but think something will snap on the freeway and send my car out of control. So, I call in, missing a day of work, and as soon as the dealership opens, I'm calling them to get my car in ASAP for them to fix their mistakes.
The timing of these problems is just a little too perfect for it to not be their fault.
EDIT2: Okay, final result. Got my car back. Turns out the part they replaced last week was defective and broke, in my car. The wheel bearing, in their words, "exploded", but I think "broke" is probably the more accurate word. So, they replaced it, free of charge, and my car seems to be working fine again now. No undue noise, no lights on my dashboard, nothing that would indicate any problem with my car. So, hopefully this is the end of it. And yes, I really do have the worst luck when it comes to cars.

Self-Improvement
Posted 13 years agoSo, for about the past month or so, I've been on a diet, ever since I weighed myself and found that I was about 15 pounds heavier than I thought I was. So, I've been cutting back on junk food and second helpings and things like that, trying to eat just a little bit better. And so far, I've dropped about five pounds, but things have kinda leveled off there, and I want to lose a bit more.
Now, I've been saying for some time that I want to join my friends
tiptoe and
maximus-ursus at their regular gym forays, but I've never been able to do it, due to distance, finances, and scheduling. But, I've resolved instead to work out at home. Thanks to
pan I've finally got a working PS2 again, so I've decided to pull out my old DDR dancemat. I figure if I start with a 15-minute session every day, and eventually work my way up to 20 or 30 minutes as my endurance improves, I can shed those pounds effectively and get the results I'm looking for.
Just finished my first session today, and I must say, I can feel it. My legs are sore, but it's a good feeling. I'm definitely going to do my best to keep this up, and hit my target weight.

Journal bump... and a Rant
Posted 14 years agoSo, I'm mostly posting this to get my MFF journal off my page. But also because I've been getting annoyed by something I've been seeing lately, and not just in the fandom.
I am sick of seeing Facebook shouts, status updates, journal slots, and other random profile messages on someone's page/chat/whatever whining about how lonely they are and how they hate being single.
We get it. You're lonely. Here's a newsflash: Bitching about it is not going to help. If you're just trying to drum up some sympathy, guess what? It gets old after the seventeenth consecutive update in a row essentially saying the same thing. "I hate being single and I'm jealous of all my friends in relationships. Why won't anyone love me!? BAWWWWW!!!" Wanna know why no one loves you? Because you come across as a whiny, bitchy, clingy do-nothing!
Do you wanna know what most people look for when they want to find a potential mate? Someone who is confident, isn't clingy, and has their shit together. Someone who doesn't define themselves by their relationship. Someone who can be a whole, complete person on their own before they try to combine their life with someone else's. If someone spends literally 90% of their effort bitching and complaining that they are single and alone, then they'd better get used to the idea. If they're gunning for sympathy, well... mine has already run out. If they're hoping that someone will take pity on them and go out with them, they're gonna be waiting a very long time.
This might sound a bit self-righteous coming from someone who is in a happy, long-term relationship, but you know what? When I was single, I never bitched about the fact, even at times when I did miss having someone in my life. And of all the mated couples I've ever talked to, not a single one has said, "We got together because he was just so miserable being single that I decided to be his pity-boyfriend!"
This journal isn't targeted at any one person specifically, but I've seen far too much of it lately. Seriously, I wish these people would realize that if they want to find someone special, they need to get off their butts, get their act together, and go out and find someone! Cause sitting around moaning about it will not amount to anything.

MFF Con Meme
Posted 14 years agoI'm really looking forward to MFF this year, so I'm gonna put this up right now. I took the template from
lizardbeth so here we go!
Where are you staying?
I'll be in the main hotel.
What day are you getting there?
I'm arriving on Thursday.
Who will you be with?
We've actually got two rooms reserved, which will be divided in some way between myself,
peps6g73,
hunterwolf,
arcnova,
darkside-the-orca,
furyfire, and Fury's brother, who I'm pretty sure has no page here. :P
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
I'll probably always be with at least one or two of the aforementioned people at all times during the con, but other people will certainly be around, too.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
I dunno, yet. If any panels strike me as interesting, I may go.
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
I'll probably try to get into a show or to, not sure which ones yet.
Will you be suiting?
Absolutely! I'll be bringing my fursuit along, as always!
Which suit(s) will you be bringing?
The only one I've got. My Cooper suit, so if you see a be-ponytailed fox, say hello!
Do you do free art?
Sure, but keep in mind you get what you pay for. :P
Do you do trades?
If someone really wants, but I'm probably not going to be drawing too much at this con.
Do you do badges?
I could if someone really really wanted one, but I'm not planning on it.
Do you do commissions?
Eh, probably won't be taking anything. I don't intend to have a table in Artist's Alley or anything.
What are your limits to drawing?
Just please don't break my mind.
What is your gender?
Male. I'm pretty sure. *doublechecks* Yep. Male.
How old are you?
26
How tall are you?
6'0"
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'?
I am very much taken, and not looking for anyone new.
Can I talk to you?
Certainly! I'm a friendly sort, so please do say hi!
Can I touch you?
I am not opposed to random hugs/pounces from people I know. But if it is your first time meeting me, and especially if I'm in my fursuit at the time, please make sure that I've noticed your presence (that is, seen and acknowledged you) before you hug me. I don't like getting jumped by strangers from behind.
How can I find you?
I'll likely be all over the con, so just keep an eye out.
Can I visit your room?
If I invite you back to my room, you are more than welcome to tag along, but don't just show up randomly. One never knows who will be in the room at a given time, and I don't want to be rude to those sharing space with me.
Can I buy you drinks?
Keep 'em non-alcoholic, and sure! I love soft drinks.
Can I give you stuff?
If you really want? Might feel a bit awkward accepting random gifts, though.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs and snuggles are always welcome.
Are you nice?
I like to think I am. As long as you're polite and respectful, I will have no problem being nice to you.
How long are you going?
Thursday through Monday
Do you have an artist table?
Nope.
Do you have prints/CDs?
Nope.
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
Nope.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Probably just yell "Cooper!" and I'll turn around and look blankly into the crowd. This gives you an opportunity to approach and catch my attention.
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
Somewhere at the con. Your guess is as good as mine.
What/where will you be eating?
At least one night will be reserved for a nice-ish dinner with my roomies, as it has become a tradition of ours. Not sure yet where it will be, but other than that, probably will just be eating whatever is near the hotel and affordable.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
If you've been invited, please come along, but don't just tag along and assume we'll have space to bring you along. With as many people as I'm going with, car space will be limited.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Sure, though there's not much in there. :P
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
If I give you permission, go nuts.
Can I take your picture?
Sure, I don't mind. If I'm in fursuit, go crazy. But, I'd love to see the pictures taken of me, too, if at all possible.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Have a good time, catch up with old friends, and make new ones.

Personality Meme
Posted 14 years agoIt was fairly accurate, and was a neat little exercise.
Accessible
You're comfortable expressing yourself in words and actions, with no self-censorship. You believe that if someone doesn't like what they see it's not your problem, but theirs. A high score on the "accessible" trait suggests that you have a lot of friends, socialize often, and enjoy rap/hip-hop music.
You don't see the need to keep your thoughts to yourself, or to have a zone of privacy that encompasses only yourself and a small circle of friends and relatives.
Friendly
You would rather hang out with others than spend time alone, and you'd far rather be doing something with your friends than just sitting around. You're happy in a crowded room, club, stadium, or auditorium.
You're not a private person who is ill at ease in a group; you don't view excessive socializing as a waste of time.
Warm
You have a genuine interest in other people. You're a natural host, and are always thinking about how you can increase the happiness of those around you. When friends have problems or are in trouble, you're usually the first person they turn to for aid and comfort. Scoring high on the "warm" trait suggests that you are among those who enjoy domestic activities — doing things around the house — and are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't always say exactly what you're thinking; you don't like the idea of causing anyone pain because of your criticism.
Understanding
You are willing to take the time to find out what's going on with other people, especially if they're in distress. You're a good listener, you don't criticize, and you offer unbiased, respectful, honest advice when it's requested. With a high score on the "understanding" trait, it is likely that you are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't feel the need to impose your standards on others or say things that, even though true, cause pain.
Empathetic
You are in touch with your own feelings, which helps put you in touch with the feelings of others.
You don't buy the logic that your happiness comes ahead of everyone else's because unless you're happy you're incapable of making anyone else happy.
Organized
You like to think a task through before you embark on it. If it's the slightest bit complicated, you make a list (even if it's only in your mind) and methodically work your way through it. When you have a goal in mind, you're not satisfied until you reach it.
You are not one of those people who ignore the details, and you don't understand how anyone can get anything accomplished without thoughtful planning ahead of time.
Competent
You strive to master everything you undertake. You tend to learn quickly and do not shy away from challenges.
You are not a "que sera sera" type of person, nor do you go easy on yourself when attempting to master a new skill or get a job done.
Intellectual
You are thoughtful, rational, and comfortable in the world of ideas. People find you interesting to talk to. You're the living embodiment of the saying "You learn something new every day." In general, those with a high score on the "intellectual" trait are employed in such fields as teaching and research, and are enthusiastic about reading, foreign films, and classical music.
You do not avoid abstract conversation, experimenting with new ideas, or studying new things. It bores you to stick to the straight and narrow of what you already know.
Original
You are constantly coming up with new ideas. For you, the world as it exists is just a jumping-off place; what's going on inside your mind is often more interesting than what's going on outside.
You don't feel that the road to success is to be a realist and stick to the program; you never stop yourself from coming up with new ideas or telling the world what you're thinking about.
Curious
You like to get to the bottom of things. You're not content knowing what someone did; you want to know why they did it.
You don't simply take things as they are and move on; you're not content skimming along on the surface; you don't feel you're wasting time by digging for the meaning of things.

Because I haven't posted in a while
Posted 14 years agoDue to the recent pony craze, and the "Brony" outbreak I've been witnessing, I actually did something I wasn't planning, and sat down to watch MLP:FiM.
Do I love this show? No.
Do I hate this show? No.
It's a cartoon about little ponies. I don't see what the massive craze is for it. I watched the first four episodes, deciding to give this show a fair chance to impress me. After the first four, I felt I'd seen enough to make my decision. There are parts that are cute. There are parts that made me laugh. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I'm not about to run off and join the "Bronydom" or whatever it is.
I've talked to people who were shocked and amazed that I'd not only never seen the show, but didn't immediately love the idea of it. I've given the show a fair shake, and it has merits, but I don't think it deserves the hype it's receiving, like most overhyped new things. I've also had someone tell me, "You can't appreciate it as much unless you've seen Episode #this and #that". I'm sorry, but if a show can't grab my attention in the first several episodes, I'm not going to bother watching Episode twenty-something that is supposed to be so fantastic.
If you're someone who eats, sleeps and breathes ponies, that's fine. I'm not going to begrudge someone their pleasures, but I would like to say that I am apparently the exception to the rule. I watched the show with an open mind, gave it a fair chance, and I really don't see the appeal.

Art Promoting Meme thingy
Posted 15 years agoThe first 10 people to comment in here get me to look through their galleries and find my three favorite pics of theirs. I will then make a journal promoting them. BUT, there's a catch, if you comment you MUST do it in your journal.
Also be sure to look at the pics that will be promoted on the next journal, that's the whole point of this, to look at others' work. You may even find someone you didn't know about and you love his/her stuff
So, post here and I'll pimp your art/commissions!

Solstice Eclipse
Posted 15 years agoWas anyone else able to catch that total lunar eclipse tonight? I didn't see it personally due to overcast skies and a ton of snowfall in my area, but I watched a live video feed of the entire event. Pretty darn cool!
No Subject
Posted 15 years agoWhere are you staying?:
I'm at the con hotel.
What day are you getting there?:
I'll be arriving on Thursday.
How long are you going?:
Staying all the way through Monday.
Who will you be with?:
I'ma be rooming with my
peps6g73,
pjc0304 and
eagleon
What is your gender?:
Meat and potatoes!
How old are you?:
25
How tall are you?:
6'0"
What suits will you have?:
I'll have my Cooper suit: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1210869/
Can I touch you?:
Feel free to give me a nudge.
Can I talk to you?:
Sure, I like talking to folks.
Can I take pictures with you?
Absolutely. It's not a con without a couple hundred pictures.
Are you nice?:
Or so I've been told.
Can I stalk you?:
Umm.. as long as it's in a harmless cute way and not a creepy weird way.
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
I don't drink much, but if we're talking soda, go nuts!
Can I hug or snuggle you?:
Hugs are always welcome, and snuggles are negotiable.
Do you do trades?:
I'm not planning on drawing much at this con, though I might be convinced to give a tarot reading as my part of a trade.
Do you have an artist table?:
Nope
Do you like parties?:
Depends on the type of party. I'm not really the type to spend all my time in a room getting wasted.
What should I not do around you?:
A couple things. You should NOT start drama. And if I'm currently on my way somewhere with someone else, do not just invite yourself to tag along. Do feel free to ask if you can come, because I usually will not mind the extra company, but do not assume I am always extending an open invitation. Sometimes I am trying to spend a little time with just a small group of close friends, or needing a bit of time to myself.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?:
The easiest way would probably be to yell "COOPER!" That usually makes me stop and look around.

Pokemon B&W
Posted 15 years agoWhy do I feel like I'm the only one who's actually patient about this? I'm really excited that Black and White are coming out, and I intend to get the game when it's released. (not sure which version yet.) But, I'm just thinking about all the fan art of the Gen 5 pokemon I've seen coming out. Naturally, they're all using the Japanese names, since Nintendo hasn't released any official English names for the new poke's yet.
So, what's going to happen when people fall in love with their new favorites, and get used to these Japanese names, and then all of the English names are finally released? I can imagine an uproar of people complaining that the English names are "stupid" or "don't sound right" or something else. Well, what do you expect when you don't even let the people finish translating the game before you get all worked up over it? I've looked at some pics of the new pokemon, but I have intentionally paid absolutely no attention to names, abilities, or so on, because I know names and such can very easily change once the English versions are finalized. Is it so hard to actually wait for a game to come out?
