Artist's block
Posted 11 years agoI have it! I have no idea what makes a compelling scene!!! Ugh, I see lot's of artists just draw their characters, doing what they do irl, i.e playing video games, watching TV, etc. I try that then I realize, ALL I do is STUDY!!!! Study, or recreational programming, but do you have any idea how boring a drawing THAT makes? I'm out of material! I've been trying to draw all night with no success, all I do is draw a bunch of random ass poses with no context; where do people get their context from? I should write a random context generator

Study Land
Posted 12 years agoThe WORST land of all! Finals are on the horizon and soon I'll have moved back to Art Land! In the mean time I must...
Program a Nexys 2 FPGA board to implement Conway's game of life
(which by the way, if anyone wants a C++ version I whipped up let me know, it's a fun little program!)
Build and program a robot using a PIC18 family microcontroller to navigate a maze, follow a line, and draw a box
(My partner (an EE major) builds, I program (myself a CompE), we complement each other)
Study for a test on relativity (strangely enough, the easiest thing on that list!)
In reality all those things are easy once you've nailed a few concepts, just time consuming, so hopefully I'll be back to my drawing self in no time!
Also me and some friends have spoken about making a game, a FOR REALZ game; if anything comes from that expect it freely distributed online
Whatever the case, see you guys in a couple weeks!

School
Posted 12 years agoHow's it going people? Turns out living closer to school has little impact on your free time when the coursework becomes exponentially more difficult each semester. That said I also got a 'real' job as a Diff eq/Calc tutor, but as you might imagine the job is long stretches of boredom followed by gut-wrenching stress as 20 people show up the day before their test and expect to absorb 3 weeks of knowledge in two hours.
oh well, what're you gonna do? Hasa Diga Eebowai!!!

'Sup Bitches
Posted 12 years agoFinally gotten all moved into my new place in the city of Richmond; I'd offer to hang with some of you guys (I know you're out there) but according to all my sources 804 furs are creepy (glass houses amirite???)
Bitchin' new place, bitchin internet (opposed to what I had back in the sticks), now I just have to learn how to parallel park and, well, pretty much relearn driving completely.
Look out city, I'm an oblivious country bumpkin; expect mass traffic delays when I walk through the middle of what I didn't realize was an intersection.
Apart from all that action, ART IS IMMINENT!!!!

Pranks
Posted 12 years agoAs I pulled clothes out of my drawer in preparation for a very sexy shower with muffinpants, I realized they were inside out. This itself was not the issue, but rather it occurred to me I had needed to turn my clothing right-side-out for the past 3 days (as you all know, a major pain in the ass).
I go back to my drawer, ALL MY CLOTHING IS INSIDE OUT
Muffinpants did the laundry the other day, so naturally I assume she is the culprit. She denies any wrongdoing, insisting that it's just somehow laundry machine magic that caused my predicament.
Naturally I accuse her of bullshit, but she stoically sticks to the lie.
This is far and away the cruelest prank anyone has ever played on me. Every. single. piece. of. clothing. Neatly folded and INSIDE OUT! IT'S SO GODDAMN ANNOYING! Just imagine how much work was involved on her part, to THINK she would go to such lengths to plague me with this minor nuisance!
What's the meanest prank ever pulled on you?

Fear
Posted 12 years agoWhen I was a kid, my mother was OBSESSED with scary films. Nearly every week she'd drop by blockbuster/video world/what have you, and pick up one or two VHS (my age is showing) horror movies. I was one of three children, and of those three I was the only one who enjoyed watching scary movies (even my father hated them), thus my mom was thrilled to have someone to finally share them with.
When she picked me up from school she'd eagerly show me what the movie of the week was; hellraiser, texas chainsaw, the hills have eyes, the last house on the left, blair witch, the amityville horror, the exorcist, psycho, and/or any of thousands of terrible b-movies (I'm looking at you, early Peter Jackson (though those are arguably AMAZING terrible b-movies)).
Anyway, I watched those movies like a pro. Before I was 12 I had seen most of the big ones (and whatever garbage was currently in theaters), and was never phased by them. None were scary, they were all just good fun.
But then my life was changed, the time I saw THAT movie, the movie that scared the living daylights out of me
I was scared for weeks afterward
I'm talking, of course, about the Super Mario Brothers movie.
I, being the little dumbass I was, saw that movie on the shelf at video world when I was about 8 or so, and thought to myself "Awesome! Live action Mario, what could go wrong?"
When Toad was transformed into a Goomba, that scared the shit out of me. The thought of someone being forcibly restrained, being 'de-evolved' and being forced to live the rest of their life some hideous abomination of flesh, an unwitting wretch mindlessly obeying its master, freaked me the fuck out. It's the first time I remember sleeping in my parents bed for protection, I didn't want to be turned into a goomba (refer to the aforementioned 'dumbass' remark)
What movie scared the hell out of you?

Now do you fulfill ANY of the following criteria:
* C++ programmer
* Experience with DirectX/D3D API
* Experience with Allegro
* Good 3DS Max/Blender modeler
* Good 3DS Max/Blender animator
* Strong Multivariate Calculus/Linear Algebra skills
* AMAZING artist
If you fill any of the above, do you meet the following criteria:
* A love of sex horror/body horror
* A scatological sense of humor
* A love of jazz music
If any of that sounds like you, chat me up; I'm looking for a partner to collaborate with, and I've unfortunately discovered all my irl friends are void any form of talent.

Procrastinating
Posted 12 years agoSo, while I should be solving for thevenin equivalents, I've opted to take a very irresponsible break and talk to you guys!
I realize my past journals have been rather dry, so I figured I'd talk about something we ALL love: Pokemon.
I want you to tell me your top six favorite pokemon, and why you love them.
Only six, you MUST pick six
Here are mine:
1. Mr. Mime - He has been my favorite since I was 8 years old playing on a 1st gen gameboy; I always loved the humanoid pokemon, and Mr. Mime was so exquisitely bizarre I instantly fell in love. (I have Mr. Mime and Jynx toys imported from Japan, compliments of muffinpants)
2. Slaking - He's like a Snorlax, but twice as repulsive! I LOVE slaking, and have a level 100 one I regularly destroy people with. Yes it was a HUGE pain in the ass getting him to 100.
3. Tangela - I've loved tangela ever since I found it for the first time south of pallet town. It's blue and creepy, what's not to love?
4. Jynx - Another 1st gen fav; Jynx horrified me, and it was for that reason I kept her with me at all times. She was so hideous, I loved pulling her out in the middle of battles ( to the dismay of my Jynx hating friends)
5. Porygon - I remember buying the coins to get porygon, that took fucking forever, it was so worth it though. Porygon awesome first because he's a normal type (I love normal and ice tpes), he is shaped incredibly cool (Porygon 2 was cool two, but you can't beat the original) and he's pink and blue, which is beautiful.
6. Forretress - This was a tough one, I was torn between this, shuckle, and probopass, but forretress is so cool looking I couldn't resist.

Grad School
Posted 12 years agoSo it's official, after a long consideration, weighing the pros and cons, I've decided to try to get into grad school.
I'm currently a junior studying computer engineering, Tau Beta Pi member, 3.87 GPA (4.0 if you exclude irrelevant electives), in the process of declaring myself a double major in physics; it'll tack on another semester but I figure it's worth it. With any luck I intend to go to grad school for, you guessed it, physics.
I've begun studying for the GREs (both the general and the physics test) because I figure, you can't start studying too early.
What will I do with a PhD in physics? Great question, teach probably. If you're curious what my areas of interest are I'll tell you, but be warned they sound painfully dry to the uninitiated.
Anyway, any grad school furries on here that could give me some advice? How tough was it to get in? Should I start chumming it up with my professors? How hard is the GRE? As the first person in my family to have gone to and graduated from college (got an associate in visual art before deciding I hated art and wanted to be an engineer, long story) this is all uncharted territory for me.
Also, I enjoy talking about myself... if you didn't pick up on that.

Polyamorous Relationships
Posted 12 years agoHow do you feel about them? Do you think it's possible to have more than two people in a relationship and avoid pairing off/third wheel syndrome? I want to know what you guys think.
Keep in mind, you're speaking to a very socially-liberal-minded person

Christmas
Posted 12 years agoSO how was everyone's Christmas?
Despite having to visit family mine was alright; from my family I got a homemade candle in a mason jar, a tin of chocolate covered peanuts, some homemade cookies, a giftcard to FYE (for those who don't know where I live, for me that's like getting a giftcard to circuit city), a homemade set of spices...
From the people in my family who aren't cheap/actually know me: A felix the cat clock, a deep fryer (that'll come in handy soon), cushions for my assless computer chair (like sitting on a plank), bookends, lots of coffee, and lots of candy (if you knew me personally, you'd never see me without candy)
From the person I love dearest (a.k.a. muffinpants): a 3DSxL, paper mario sticker something, and oodles and kaboodles of MLP: FiM toys/accessories/cards/etc.
needless to say Muffinpants wins the award every year for best gift(s)
Anyway, how did you guys fare this Christmas?

It's my birthday!
Posted 12 years agoOfficially 24, that number is starting to sound high..
Got a cool cd, a new wallet, some sour patch kids (can't eat them, mouth problems, long story) and some steaks!
That's right, a pack of steaks.
life is wonderful.

Music
Posted 12 years agoSo today I'm working on some commissions, and as everyone knows, the only thing more fun than drawing, is drawing with music.
It was then I became curious, as to what all my beloved watchers listen to when making/appreciating art.
I listen almost exclusively to Devo, David Bowie, and video game soundtracks, with some jazz thrown in for days when I'm feeling particularly weird; lately more Devo than anything else.
So if you're bored, why not take a moment and share with me what your favorite bands/songs/genres are to listen to while creating?
if you want the patented "Count_Gravimeter drawing experience" then pull out a pencil, a sheet of paper, and set your browser to my current ear worm! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2fTqEoJ8R0
