New commission carrd/update
Posted 12 hours agohttps://crabsbeveragecommissions.carrd.co/
Finally got around to making a proper location to host my commission info. The images come out a bit cropped on mobile for some reason but I think it's still readable, tell me if it isn't. Anyway feel free to message me with any interest I got nothing in my queue currently
Anyway extra commission flogging as extra funds at the moment are particularly helpful. Not a dire situation but, I've mentioned briefly before I am technically "homeless" ie living in a partly canvas camper(upgraded from a tent) for the last 3 or so years by a river somewhere "bush camping" on government land but for now they've let me for now since I guess I'm well behaved. Which is FINE, I have ag ood solar setup/am offgrid hence being able to use electronics still but my dwelling itself is not ideal for permanent living especially as I'm in a particularly storm prone area in something not in the best repair and it's time ti move on before they'll end up making me. Anyway I have the opportunity to go live on a friends property some hours away in exchange for doing some work on said property as soon as I can get myself there which is excellent, BUT, I have tio move my wretched dwelling there and also find something better and bigger (like an old caravan aka trailer or bus) to live more comfortably and securely which I'm pretty close to being able to afford something that I can sorta fix up myself. So anything that can go towards getting myself moved and set up sooner rather than later would be AWESOME

Character species
Posted 7 months agoRandom thing that Id never actually clarified in my entire time of sharing art or character references is most of my anthro characters are a specific race of sighthound-like dog people called Kungestarn.. extradimensional dogmen..hence why they often have deliberately recurring traits and colours. Traits such as ear and tail shape, fur length/texture, presence and shape of horns etc vary within the species.
I’ve also had it asked or assumed my male characters are some form of trans or intersex, have inaccurately drawn dog dicks and etc and the answer universally to that is no (no issue with said things, just it’s not), they have a made up genital anatomy more comparable to a marine mammal

Thoughts and clarification
Posted 8 months agoI’m not inspired by or drawing based on any other media, I barely consume any sort of media beyond music. What I make is based only on my own thoughts and life and what I enjoy making, all of it has personal contexts. it’s inevitable that will end up having similarities to something else at some point, but immediately making assumptions and explicit comparisons it’s nothing else than a surface level insight is just a bit of a shallow way of consuming art in general.
I never had the tv channels to view American shows, nor did I ever watch anything at all with audio online as I didn’t want to be heard what I was doing, and if I wore headphones then I couldn’t hear properly what my mum was doing only music when I was alone , all the way up until 2019 when I moved out so no popular media was significant to me, everything I’ve been compared to I’m only aware of due to being compared to it. I grew unschooled geographically and socially isolated upbringing weird enough that no therapist has known what to say about it and now I live in a bush camp hovel with no running water for the last couple years, on disability pension on account of being deemed incurably mental. I’m not drawing based on other people’s ideas or trauma depictions I’m actually just like that (and ever since I started puberty go through random phases of compulsively wanting to draw and write about necrophillia, it’s not an Alfred alfer reference like people think it is, I did not know what that was until recently)
No annoyance in writing this just thoughts because it’s been happening more often, love you all lovely people

Websites
Posted 11 months agoCurrent state of the internet sucks basically. It wasn’t so bad on a personal level when deviantart was still an enjoyable and usable website, but I’m not sure if it is just on my devices but it is basically functionally unusable due to the amount of issues. Nothing else really matches how it was. They’re moving sta.sh over to the new interface which is already also becoming barely useable, I’d been using it as my image hosting and storage for the last ten or so years. I’d also used imgur but that for some reason no longer works either. Well.. I know the reason I think my devices are just way too outdated lol, I can’t update them without internet and I don’t have an actual internet connection nor the ability to obtain one where I’m at just a kindof spotty mobile data hotspot from my phone. Haven’t had access to an internet connection in Hmm since I think 2018 so that’s around how long since they’ve had an update. It happens to be so too that no one else I know has internet either so I’d have to I guess go into town to sit in the library for however long and I don’t know, read a book or something. Yes it’s easily doable but arreghhhhh ahhhh *rips the door off my refrigerator* I can’t be bothered.....
I like furaffinity and inkbunny, although in particular inkbunny is moreso feels just like a porn gallery type of thing rather than general art sharing, which is fine but I’m not a primarily porn artist so it’s generally low engagement there compared to other places.
I’m apparently just one warning away from being exiled from furaffinity furever so I have to be on my absolute best behaviour. I’ll probably be fine but it’s also be a shame not having this site anymore since it’s my favourite one to look at and post on
If so ever happens I urge you to go follow me and continue giving me attention and validation on inkbunny or Instagram as crabsbeverage also

Naturally I write messily and I have to make a conscious effort to not do that, it looks clear enough to me but I’m not sure if that’s just because I know what it says already. I’ve been told some of the dialogue in my comic is hard to make out especially in the earlier pages it wasn’t entirely by accident I woukd maybe deep fry it a bit too hard sometimes. I try to make my references more clear

Is furry art lucrative
Posted a year agoOften you’ll see people saying that learning to draw furries is a quick and easy way to make money regardless of if you’re a furry or not, and that you’d gain immediate attention drawing porn and fetish content regardless of your abilities. But really how lucrative is being a furry commission artist for the average person, and how easy is it to actually find and react people who’ll want your artwork? You could flog out a bunch of ych’s or adoptable and reminders for them onto this site and often I will see people do so, alot of them don’t have significant followings and many of their offerings do not actually get purchased, even if of a decent enough quality. So if looking at it from a profit making mindset you’ll need to factor in the amount of time put into making something that never made any money, you’ll also have to make good enough examples of your commission work in order to attract anything if it’s not something you typically make y
I could easily say.. no furry art is NOT particularly profitable unless you’re already a pretty popular artist, have a name for yourself and that in itself is also not a quick and easy thing to accomplish for most people. That’s both to get a steady flow of commissions in the first place but also to be able to charge equivalent to working a normal job. Maybe have a patreon that gets subscribers. Sometimes I make make a decent income supplement albeit not enough to live on by itself sometimes I make nothing regardless of what advertisement I push.
But also I am not a regular in the pure porn/fetish side of the furry demographic, moreso just fell within a niche within multiple other niches which also doesn’t attract the stereotypical horny wealthy furry people tend to envision most.
So, by weaving your way into the nsfw furry sphere, as a newcomer or non furry , COULD one theoretically, as they actually say, make any significant money off of them, if get noticed at all in what is quite an INFLATED market. I’d also imagine those seeking art purely to get off on woukd also care less about the popularity or even general ability to a degree and style of the artist, as long as it well pushes some of the right buttons.
Mind you it’s not something I’m intending on doing myself or anything, but makes me wonder how much basis is there actually behind “just learn to draw furries and you’ll make money”

Issues
Posted 2 years agoGoing to complain for a moment in that I haven’t been particularly happy with my art lately, to a higher degree than my usual criticalness of it. Mostly I’m not happy in the way I make body proportions in that everything I do tends to look off and I guess amateurish, I feel like I should be better at making that type of thing in that it’s something I’ve been drawing for that amount of time. My issue might be in I don’t use references or tend to sketch much or just a minimal amount, or go immediately to lineart, but even in the way of sketching I think I should still be able to do better.and It’s not really an excuse for other people who use the same techniques either in that they also make better work, maybe of a better fundamental understanding of it.
Often the size that I do heads tends to look off too, and the length of necks, that’s probably the biggest thing actually.
I guess I am curious from an outsiders perspective how much does it look like that? Do my bodies look immediately wrong at a glance?

How do you personally value furry commissions?
Posted 3 years agoHow do you personally value furry commissions?
It’s not really something you can put a concrete value on, could you really say if someone is overcharging or undercharging for their work?
I do get told sometimes I do not charge enough for mine, for the amount of time I put into things that might be true (usually adds up to much less than minimum hourly wage, for my country at least). But at the same time it’s something I enjoy doing, $15 is still a helpful amount of money to me , and also if I did charge more I doubt anyone would commission me, I think I’d also feel like I am ripping people off to be honest. Pe
What matters more than time/effort is what people want and like, plenty of artists can sell fairly simplistic bust shots or sketches for more than I value my largest illustration type pieces which might take me 10+ hrs. I think artist popularity comes into it alot too, not just in exposure which of course helps, but it seems to become a certain brand name type value when getting art/designs from a popular artist, regardless of what that artist is actually selling. I’m not a popular artist or with a widely appealing style, also I hate promoting myself because it makes me feel like a wanker (and when I do it usually gets no response anyway).
It’s interesting you’ll often see people (maybe not in the fandom) talking about selling furry porn for money and how profitable it’d be. But it’s really not that easy to get noticed at all, in my experience at least. Maybe it’s the difference in having the type of style people would want to wank to vs something like mine, or something that appeals to a niche (be that aesthetic/whatever’s “in”, or a fetish, emo dogs or something). Something that’s kind of broad enough to be able to capture most characters recognisably, but not too typical enough as no not stand out at all. That’s usually what you see selling for the most. Sometimes I’ll look at someone’s pricing and think to myself it isn’t really worth that .. but that isn’t really fair to think. Really it’s worth whatever it sells for, and comes down to personal taste, it’s still somebody’s original creation.
Maybe gaining attention isn’t that hard depending on what you do. Personally I t took me almost 5 years to gain any sort of attention or to be able to occasionally sell my art at offers higher than like $1 equivalent of online currencies I didn’t care about per hour if work, just for the sake of doing something. I definitely never thought I’d end up selling pieces for $50+ but I still feel like I’m ripping people off asking for that much and they only pay it because they feel bad or something.
I don’t want this to come off as self pitying/sympathy fishing at all, just making observations

The cave troll lifestyle/ cave troll utopia
Posted 4 years agoThere’s an increasing prevalence of dark modes being used as the default in websites, like furaffinity for example in the recent update, makes the default colour dark, also eclipse on deviantart. I suppose these are websites frequented by more of a “cave troll” demographic. The kind of people who will use blackout curtains during the day, and exist by choice in a dark room illuminated by unnaturally coloured neon lights, and have gaming setups and stuff too probably. Websites not appealing to these types of people tend to be brighter, although the minority cave troll population that exists in most places will still constantly cry out for dark themes or (perpetual) “night mode” because it hurts their eyes. I imagine more and more people, mostly younger people are gravitating towards this cave troll lifestyle. Personally with dark themes I tend to find myself squinting in the way I would whilst navigating a dark area (like a cave or mineshaft, from experience). Do you see pictures of bedrooms “inspiration” or “aesthetic” bedrooms in which they are constantly dark with those light strips along the skirting, with a three monitor surround gaming setup and elaborate chair. That looks like a dismal existence to me. But then these people will tend to say they don’t enjoy nature, or being outside, the sun is a deadly laser and what have you .
When I stayed for a time with my half brother, his housemate was a cave troll. He had a bedroom actually with no windows at all, in the centre of a kindof strangely layed out house, call of duty posters and the like and would talk with a headset on and little microphone (before I noticed this I assumed he was talking to me and responded, we made silent eye contact for a few seconds before I walked away ), he’d also walk with his arms away from his body and legs spread further apart than they needed to be which I found unusual. He wasn’t prone to cleaning up after himself and he was bad at aiming into the toilet bowl (for someone who plays shooter games you would assume he’d be better at this), though funnily enough he didn’t seem unhappy.
I can’t comprehend it
I tend to spend most of my time outside, and in not then I keep the space I am in light and with fresh air (because I’m not a cave troll), I am physically active and don’t tend to eat much junk food, I don’t game and whilst I do use the internet often I’m not a chronically online type. This is excluding alot of aspects of my life however. I’m depressed and I have never been what you could call a happy or mentally sound person, despite doing all that kind of shit people say depressed people should do (by my own choice and necessities of my existence, I’m not living in mouse utopia of suburbia). But not all the sunshine and fresh air in the world can fix certain things. Cave trolls like my brothers housemate I must assume are, genetically, mentally ok, but something went awry in their developmental years as to compel them to living like battery animals willingly, which compels them to walk with their arms and legs too far apart and all that.
Then that would make me the flighted aviary bird, but still ripping out my feathers and compulsively screaming because I want to be on the other side of the bars. Whereas the battery pigs are too fat and too restricted in a tiny pen to swing their head around in any attempt to mutilate themselves, in a dark shed they don’t know what’s on the other side of the walls and they don’t think about it because they have their little headset and microphone to squeal into and a screen in front of their face. But then even “normal” people with typical lives will often opt to sit in dark rooms with artificial lighting and air modifiers when they have an option not to. Why?

Making people
Posted 4 years agoI want to add on some more thoughts of my last journal , IS it the mans brain or his hands, or both, that make him draw that way. Could someone potentially be really good at art but just have fucky hands so that he is bound to creating just sonic inflation art using the circle and fill tool? But mentally he may be capable of rendering Sonic in hyperrealistic detail with skill never seen before (in those circles, at least).
I like the idea of MAKING people, just putting different parts together to create a new person (think like mad professor by insane clown posse lol). Maybe that’s something I could do, and be the first ever person to successfully achieve it in real life, but I’ve just never attempted it before so we don’t know yet. What made me think of this is the differences in the art of biological men and transgender men, and putting the brain of a trans male into a man and in that bypassing any other gender reassignment/general masculinisation that may be necessary. Jump straight to the real fucking deal. To do this you must source a healthy, preferably young, male body . The best thing you could do is bring together both a trans man and a trans woman and just do a straight swap. I feel like you could just take the brains out and put them in the other, fix the wires together with some electrical tape and cable ties and away you go. I reckon you could charge alot of money for that. Business idea maybe? I have an empty chicken coop on my property big enough for a surgical table or two

Differences in male and female art styles
Posted 4 years agoI’ve been thinking just in browsing furry art there does seem to be a common difference between the art styles of men vs women. Although I can’t pinpoint exactly what sets them apart. Such as in looking at a particularly cutesy or “Chibi” type art style there’s a certain difference in that you can point out a piece and immediately think “a man drew that” . Even though there is no explicit stylistic differences.
Some art styles run more androgynous but I’d say 8 times out of 10 my predictions seem to be correct.
I’d put transgender males in a seperate category, as they on their own tend to have a very distinctive way of drawing, seperate from biological men (and women). Have you noticed that? To be fair many do follow somewhat of a similar stylistic trend but even when deviating from that There’s just something immediately recognisable about it.
I don’t see enough trans female artists to be able to notice a common theme with them.
On the far ends of the masculine and feminine scale I don’t really feel it’s something you can imitate without naturally being on these ends. Especially the masculine end, it’s always the most noticeable.
It’s kind of similar to how Russian artists all have a very recognisable look to their art, regardless of their style. I don’t think any other country really has that effect. I wonder about that aswell
Do you notice it aswell? What do you think differentiates it?

“Man is the beast”
Posted 4 years agoI can never easy to exactly translate things and words from dreams into words in waking life .. I dreamt last night I was saying something alike
Man is a herd animal, man is like a Fila Brasileiro trained to seize the escaped slaves “outliers”, strike the fear into them and return them to the masters, the higher ups. Man gets beaten and scolded by master, then beats or scolds the fellow man who questions masters word and method. Betraying your equals as to continually chip away at both of your rights and your freedom. Man is the beast
Anyway expanding on that
Laws aren’t put in place to protect you they are put in place to control you, to make you more complacent as they get more severe. I jsed to believe people would not follow laws because they AGREED with them, but rather out of fear of the consequence .. but learned apparently no they are just deluded .. harming someone is one thing .. but taking away your own freedoms ..? Ask people about this and they give you a blank stare
You as an adult should be in charge of your own safety. If you need a nanny looking after you that makes you a fucking idiot, and it breeds idiots. Take what measures YOU feel necessary. This goes for many things but is particularly relevant right now Want to place yourself under house arrest.. get vaccinated .. wear a mask ... then DO it! It’s YOUR life I do not care. People are TRAINED by authorities to drag you back into line if you decide otherwise. (Often anonymously in true fuckwit fashion. ) See above
Humans are a domesticated species. Parrots are complex and intelligent creatures , notice how prone they can become to feather plucking and other such behaviours when kept in a cage, neurotic behaviours. Just for example.
IF I was a wild animal ., would I feel the urge to self mutilate or medicate? Would anyone? Then have somebody to tell you no.. that is illegal.
I also used to think everybody experienced depression, anxiety , at least to some degree .. apparently not. I can’t really fathom that. Maybe some people are more made and malleable for domestication than others .
Act like livestock and get treated like livestock .. or is it the other way around?
It’s hard to respect people when they don’t respect their own rights as a living creature. Maybe Start biting the hand that feeds you
Becomes ever more embarrassing to be an Australian
Anyway I remember seeing people on here creating custom dog collar tags (for people) to show their vaccination status /dose number. I thought that is funny and relevant isn’t it .. people were not buying them for that reason however. I think if I start selling custom ear tags with that on it to people on Etsy they would happily buy them and wear them . Not a bad idea

Natural understanding of cartoon faces
Posted 4 years agoOne thing I’ve been thinking about is if you showed a person from say the middle ages my artwork, or really any stylised/cartoony art would they be able to recognise it as animals, or just abstract shapes and colours. Is it just from exposure over time that people naturally understand what it is supposed to be? If you showed them an emoji or some such would they recognise it as a face? It seems such an obvious and simple representation of a face now, like whether or not I was born with the ability to recognise a yellow smiley face sticker as a face, but I don’t ever remember a time of not knowing. Actually One of my very earliest memories is seeing arrows on street signs whilst in a car and wondering what these symbols were, it’s not natural to me to recognise these types of symbols, but a smiley face represents a mouth and eyes, albeit very simplistically but still you come to make a connection to it and don’t need it explained. Would I have recognised it if I was born 200 years earlier?
I wonder how far back the earliest recognition would go. What do you reckon..... I’m not sure exactly when people would have first stared drawing in this kind of way or if there was always outliers who drew a primitive version of “cartoons”, and what they may have been without preexistinb inspiration to feed off in some way. An inspiration that’s always there like growing up seeing cartoons, stylised characters, that normalises it in you brain. Like anything you see posted on the front page of furaffinity right now, I guess is like how you could say the entire human population spawned from Adam and Eve, and eve from Adams rib, or something like that.
I like how it’s developed over time, in that many cartoons that really don’t look a whole lot like the people or species they’re supposed to be, and yet are instantly recognisable as such. And they can continue to get progressively more abstract without I suppose BEING abstract

Thoughts about milk and stock fencing
Posted 4 years agoDrawing farm fencing in the background of furry art made me wonder what the purpose of that would be. I never liked anthro and feral animals existing within the same universe it looks abit odd to me, I always imaged them being in a world with species functioning more similar to beastars for example. But you would have to strip it down to a world in which animal products were never widely utilised, and therefore substitutes of such wouldn’t exist either. Meat would still have to be consumed albeit controversially considering every species is sapient in this case, so not as widely or openly in everyday use. So I’ll say milk, I can imagine between species it would be similar how humans view consuming breastmilk. Would it have become a common thing in the first place? How would they harvest it, I can’t see a way you could do so whilst maintaining the appropriate “””human””” rights for a sapient equivalent if cows and such, whilst catering for the same mass degree of dairy consumption as humans. And if milk was never consumed amongst adult creatures then milk substitutes wouldn’t have been invented either. This changes food a lot and raises these sort of questions when many common foods are drawn alongside furry characters.
Eggs would be less so as they would be laid daily regardless, many species will consume eggs compared to milk, which is only really a human thing as far as I know. Although still could be viewed as somewhat odd.
Farm animals, in their anthro equivalent, could very well be still kept as livestock, like slaves, and used for the same purposes as in our world. (This is fairly common in fetish artwork actually). Therefor requiring no adjustments in the anthro universe, but also implies the majority of furries would condone slavery and the violation of basic rights for the sake of consuming these products (although meat is necessary for many species, milk and such is not, so that brings back the possibility of milk substitutes like soy). It makes sense certain species (cows, pigs, etc) would be raised and kept for this purpose, and portrayed and seen as lesser than the rest of society. Similar to how they are vs dogs for example, amongst our world.
So, even if this is the case, stock fencing would still not be necessary in this universe because it would not contain a sapient anthropomorphic species, nor would it make sense to keep them in a field in the first place. Farming as a whole would look very different. Where I live in real life, and where I would imagine my fursona to live too, a rural, very agricultural area focusing primarily on beef and wool (rather than plants), would not exist in any way similar as it is.
I’ll edit in another silly thought
I’ve seen lots of pride artwork on furaffinity, including a considerably large amount featuring FAT FURS (which I always find quite comical together to be honest). Thinking of a morbidly obese fatfur, holding a cheeseburger in one hand and the transgrnder pride flag in the other, saying “trans rights”. In that furries are often a hyper progressive society and yet endorse slavery and genocide in order to live out their fat fetish
