Story Time
Posted 7 years agoOk, so it's been well over a year since I've been posted anything or even really been around. I have reasons. Last September I got hired at Disney Television Animation, first on Billy Dilley, and now on Big City Greens. I've also worked on Big Hero 6, Penn Zero and Duck Tales. I've been doing a lot of online classes, with Bobby Chiu, Terryl Withlatch, and Aaron Blaise. I may return at some point with my new found art skills, but for now I'm focusing on learning.
Hope you all are doing well. I'll try to check in more frequently.
Cheers!

I'm back! (ish)
Posted 9 years agoHey all. So I've been gone well over a year. It wasn't anything personally against FA or anything. I wanted to focus on my LA professional life for a while. And it's been going well! Just finished moving to a bigger place with a office space, I'm now professional certified in Toon Boom Harmony (the animation program I use all the time), and I'm starting a small studio soon.
For now though, I've got a little free time so I'll be opening up the commissions soon in the form of YCH canine run cycles, fully shaded. It's the same run cycle for everyone but I'll have a few different BG's, and added effects for an additional price. I'm to post the commission info up in the next few days so keep an eye out for it!
I also may open up regular commissions, sans animated icons. I know it was my most popular service, but it was a hassle/depressing to have to work around the icon file size limit. I will probably do square animations for those what to make them icons, but the resizing would be on the commissioner.
So yeah, glad to be back for now. Keep posted!
Cheers!

Posted 11 years agoHey all!
Just letting you know that I'm no longer adding to my active commissions list. I am being brought back on to the Beast's Fury Project. It was successfully funded via KickStarter so for the time being I've got a full time gig.
Those of you already on the list will still be getting you stuff as soon as possible. For those who want art but haven't contacted me until now can be put on a callback list. That means I get a hold of you before I officially open my commissions back up so that you can get in early if necessary.
Besides that little bit of good news I'm slowing being crushed under the weight of my upcoming wedding with Juco. Why did no one warn me about how much work this would be?! I mean, my mom is doing like 75% of the organized but GUHH! so much to do. Everyday he and I run about the apartment trying to organizing tuxs and gifts and rings and invitations, all while he heads the animation for BF and I chug through commissions and learning Toonboom.
And besides that we still have to figure out what to do with the pets. The cat will have to be boarded for an entire month, which bums me out having her all coped up that long. The dog is old and sorta weak and I have no clue whether boarding him at the vet is more fair for him or me. He may have Cushing's and he has no upper teeth and allergies and has moments of derp. *flail*
Thank goodness for stress relievers like Titanfall, BL2, Flight Rising, and japanese lessons.
So yeah, thanks everyone for being so patient! I'll keep on bringing the good stuff as best I can.
Cheers!

Seriously though, how did I not hear about this? Also, I'm dying to know what they animate this with. I would like to think toonboom seeing as other didney jr shows use it.
Poor poor Kopa. Your time will never come.

Hey all.
Just got back from a special screening of HTTYD2 with Juco and a few of our animation buddies. It was out-fuckin-standing! I can't wait for the rest of you to see it. Hard to say which of the two I liked more, but the second one had a very strong story and great character development. You can see the technological advancement in the render quality over the 4 years between the films They also mentioned a new software that they used for most of the pipeline. Oh man, the twists and surprises were nicely revealed. It really was a great film experience. (Doesn't hurt that we didn't have to pay for the movie in 3D or food and drinks).
I love watching a well made animated film, 2D or CGI. Pumps me up and makes we want to draw/animated when I get home. That being said, back to commission work...and maybe a night fury doodle or two...or twenty...
Cheers!
Also, commissions are still open for another week or so, so please don't hesitate to note me :D
COMMISSIONS OPEN!! and intros all around
Posted 11 years agoHey all!
I have nearly 300 new watchers now with my ad up and I thank all of you! Let me introduce myself. I'm Daggerocha. I'm an animator/storyboard artist by trade. I graduated from Michigan State and College for Creative Studies (in detroit). You guys probably already know some of my more famous fellow graduates juco, ifus, toulouse, bloodshot23, Maxi-Rover etc. I live in Burbank, CA with my fiance juco, another fabulous animator/artist.
We moved out to Cali a few years ago to work in the animation industry, but the truth of it is that almost all animation is heavily outsourced to other countries like Korea, China, and Thailand. Hell even MLP is produced in Canada.
So here's the deal. I need commissions. I have horrendous student loans and Juco and my wedding to pay for later this summer. What padding I had is dried up and the local studios are still not hiring all that much. My goal is to live of my art. It's what I was trained to do. Because of my back I'm trying to avoid going back into some shitty retail job, though there are times I do miss gamestop...
Commissions could also help you guys out. Commissions mean more pencil mileage, which leads to a better looking portfolio, which leads to a studio job, which means lower animation and art prices for you guys! Yup, it's true, I'd love to lower some of my prices if I had some stable money coming in to make it more accessible to everyone.
So yeah, please note me if you're looking for some quality artwork. And if you want to pass the word on that I'm taking all types of commissions I'd be much obliged. I'm keeping the list going until my ad goes down in 2 weeks.

P.S. I was going to throw in my super duper sob story about my dog being sick and needing money to pay for it, but thankfully his illness gets better on his own and the vet bill wasn't too bad (or at least it was less than I thought an emergency would cost). He might look a little derpy for the rest of his days, but we can keep him happy and fed. :)
P.P.S. I'm thinking about starting a Weasyl account. Is that site good for commission work?

Who wants some lines/colors what make them pretty pictures?
Posted 11 years agoHey all! Guess what? Commissions are open again! Huzzah! All types are open. Head to my pricing page for details about what you can get!
Also, I am on Flight Rising now. The name's Risu. If you need yourself some animated banner art of your dragons, or art of any kind let me know. I price using USD and gems (let's face it, it's mostly for USD ;) ).

Posted 12 years agoNo seriously, I'm opening up some slots for a fully animated, color/shaded commissions, or cheaper roughs and inks. I need some fundage hardcore right now. Now, obviously by opening this type of commissions puts the price from anywhere between $80 to $250 per second. My rates might seem high, but they're professionally based.
I'm looking for feral work, but I could work on some other stuff. :) My commissions page is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8718966/
Also, I believe my beloved
juco is looking for some commissions too (paid via Bitcoin or QuickPay).
Thanks guys.

Updates on life and some such (also a livestream)
Posted 12 years agoFirst of all, come visit My man
Juco's livestream, which is happening now!
Speaking of Juco....I'm absurdly happy to announce the he and I are now engaged! My sweet man asked me about a week ago and how could say anything but yes! During the last part of last week and most of the weekend I was in Las Vegas visiting family, and it seems like the second I got there I was dragged to a dress boutique (I found an awesome dress for our Renaissance-themed reception). I'm not a girly person, but I did have a little fun picking out my dresses. I'm still not sure about the actually wedding dress, but I have one that I really really like.
Perhaps the best part of the mini-vacation was coming home on saturday. It was my birthday and the best present I could have was coming back to Juco <3. (I'm 30 now and couldn't give two flips!)
That being said, Pokemon getting released on my birthday and getting an apple gift card with enough for a new ipod were also totally rad. :p
I got some awesome gift art too. chazzzz drew me a new gryph character, which I still need to name http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11813617/
pel also drew me some awesomeness, but I need to harass her into posting it.
Thanks you guys! You're the best!
As far as artwork, I'm still working with Juco and several other FA artists on the Beast Fury 2D fighting game INFO FOUND HERE
I'm also trying valiantly to get an entry into
Little_shewolf's contest. I need an extra day in the week for all the stuff I have to do.
If you've got a freind code you'd like to share for pokemon feel free to post it, and if you don't want it out there you can note me. I may not be online all the time because I like to save my battery life.
That's about it!
Cheers!

Adoptables, yea or nay?
Posted 12 years agoHey guys! I'm back from my hiatus and Mama needs a new pair of shoes. Well actually no. Mama needs to pay some bills...could use a new ipod too..maybe some food...
Right anyways. Adoptables. If I busted out a crop of feral original species (and non original if you guys wanted something specific), would you want them?
The species would be copyrighted to me, but the character would be yours. Prices wouldn't be too bad either.
Also, I'll be opening commissions again this month once I finish the last two on the list. I some parties have shown interest in once I open again and I will let you know first.

Going to be AFK for a few days
Posted 12 years agoSo I just found out my dog needs surgery to remove whatever the fuck it is he swallowed. Wouldn't be so upset about it if it weren't for the fact he's almost 12. It was bad enough that he was originally supposed to be going under for just oral surgery, on top of having at least one abscess and ear infections. So my nerves are completely shot and I will be won't really be answering any notes or comments for the time being.
Alacron.Lone I originally didn't see you email because of recent events. I will tell you in more detail about how much I love it later on in the week.
Thanks for understanding guys. Cheers.

Non-animated commissions open!
Posted 12 years agoHey guys. I'm opening 7 slots for non moving artwork, as well as icons. Commissions sheet--> http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8718966/
I've got mad bills this month, plus a new addition to the apartment (the kitten's name is Gypsie!) And since I don't have a steady studio job at the moment and I could use the work. So yeah, let me know guys!

Sooo...
Posted 12 years ago...we kinda got a kitten. Totally didn't mean to. She reached out of a cage at an adoption thingie when we were getting the dog groomed. What could I do? She's a lovebug, and rather chatty.
The dog is less enthused than we are.
As a result of cat, I will be heavily focusing on still art and going through my waiting list for animation. I will announce when a new animation list will be opening.

Commission prices [UPDATED]
Posted 12 years agoHey all. Just an update regarding prices.
Yes I had to raise them, but with good reason. I'm unemployed at the moments and steady studio work in my field is really hard to come by. My main source of income is freelancing and whatever comes my way here on FA. You guys have seen my work and know I get it done, even if it takes forever with the animation.
I'm not trying to exclude on a fixed or low budget. I just need to make sure I can pay the bills and eat! I have a small waiting list to get through first, afterwhich I will be opening for commissions again.
Have a good week everyone!

F5 for temp avatar and the horrible truth...
Posted 12 years agoabout the film industry.
My avatar is green. It's green in protest. I am in solidarity with these guys: http://www.fxguide.com/quicktakes/v.....otestatoscars/
The gist of it is best summed up by one of my old schoolmates: "A protest about how the director of "Life of Pi" said that he wish his VFX was cheaper, and that the visuals were a result of his work and the DP's work. He gave no credit to the actual VFX artists, and now the studio that worked on the movie, Rhythm and Hues (one of the most talented studios in the industry) is bankrupt because he wanted to go cheaper."
You see, we on the visual FX, animation, and pre-prod side of the film industry often get shit for credit, unless it's solely an animated production (but even then it's either watered down tween animation or all about the voice actors). Often when crunch time comes around were work far into the night, and are expected back again at regular hours with little thanks (happened irl). We start missing paychecks (happened irl), and then we watch our friends get picked (laid) off one by one (also happened irl).
To this date, the first movie house I ever worked at still owes me over two grand. I will never see that money. It's not worth suing for. It's not worth trying to find our low life CEO that jumped ship to florida when things started looking bad, but had us still working on his abandoned project. (btw, in florida he started another studio and fucked over some more artists there). Digital Domain got fucked over by the people who ran it. Freakin' Rhythm and Hues - you all know them because they've probably produced effects for at least one of your favorite movies - went bankrupt because of Life of Pi.
Bear in mind, I still want desperately to continue being a part of this industry. I use the term continue loosely because I haven't have a full time industry job since April 2011. In fact that was my last full time job. This industry is so tied up that there are no entry levels jobs. There used to be, but not anymore. SO I find myself in a weird place now: I want to be a part of an indsutry that wants my work, but doesn't think it's worth paying for.
Ain't that some shit.
(I still grieve for The Legend of Tembo. It would have been such a cool flim)

It'll give me a chance to find a job. A good one where 2D isn't regulated to poor storytelling for two-year-olds and stoners. Not that I have anything against the young or inebriated (though I really, really hate weed. I'm just so terribly unimpressed with the majority of american 2D animation right now.
