I hope you have a happy Halloween for me

A PMV...by me.
General | Posted 14 years agoHello!
With FA's submission system down, I decided to take the time to put together something I've thought up for a bit. A Pony AMV. Or, as it seems to be more commonly known, a PMV.
I think it turned out rather well, personally:
https://youtu.be/cyDGzMcwYVo
May or may not ever do this again, I dunno.

Oh, is DC Doing that artist-pimping thing?
General | Posted 14 years agoYes. Yes he is. He doesn't usually do that (or talk in the third person), but this is a Special Exceptional Time.
You see, a very good friend of mine has just begun an Iron Artist series. More specifically, this friend:
pcaduck
He is an excellent artist, and a cool guy as well! And now, for the price of a meal out, an SA Forums account, some Call of Duty DLC, or whatever else costs $10, he will draw for you a thing of your choice! (Multiple characters extra; ask him for details!) You can view the details of this Iron Artist right here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2805428/
What sort of work quality will you get from this Iron Artist? Well, see for yourself with these examples!:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6595977/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5525393/
And for just $10. I hope you choose to avail yourself of this excellent art offer, just as I have! (And shall do so some more in the future!) Or, if not, perhaps you could be kind enough to spread the word yourself? The more people who know, the more people who can help, the better!

Tablet GET! Practice, things to do, and 100 themes series
General | Posted 14 years agoAs the title implies, I've received my tablet! (Well, actually, I received it last Wednesday night, I've just not really been practicing on it until today.) Unfortunately, I must head to work in a few minutes and then work all day tomorrow, so I'll be slightly delayed in that regard as well.
So, as soon as I get myself properly prepared and back into the swing of drawing by hand, I've got a few personal gifts to draw up. Belated birthday gifts and the like. I'm afraid I've been bad about doing them...sorry to those that I've promised them to.
And then, I shall begin an ambitious project, something I've intended to do ever since I got a tablet: A "100 Themes, 100 Arts" challenge! I've at least spent the day writing up my hundred themes; have a look!:

I've been considering offering up a few of these themes as spots for an "Iron Artist" thingy, but I think both commissioners and myself would want to wait for me to get a bit better first.
So now, I'm off to work; laters, ye all!

Bought a Tablet, waiting for it to get here
General | Posted 14 years agoSo last night, I finally buckled down and put in an order for one of these lovely things: http://www.amazon.com/Wacom-CTL460-...../dp/B003LVKQ18
Visions/delusions of future grandeur are whirling through my head: fine figures that I no longer have to scrap because I can't use ctrl-Z on paper! The ability to draw by hand again, no more need to do my artwork by mouse! Iron Artists, Livestreams, all those cool things tablet artists do, now I'll be able to do too!
But, is there anything in particular I should expect out of tablet drawing? Aside from the whole you're-using-a-pen-to-draw-again thing?

Personality test/meme
General | Posted 14 years agoI thought I could use it. Maybe you could too: http://www.signalpatterns.com/psych_central/
Anyway, these were my results:
Laid Back
You prefer to do your own thing, in your own way, rather than attempt to force your will, or your ego, on a group. You're happy working on your own, taking your sweet time, and focusing on the job at hand.
You're not pushy. You're not interested in imposing your will on others, taking charge of every situation, being the first to raise your hand in class, or insisting on being the winner of every argument.
Self-Contained
You like to stick to your own business and leave the power struggles to others; you know who you are and what you believe in, but you don't see any reason to impose your values on everyone else.
You generally don't get involved in organizing or motivating people, and you don't feel the need to always be seen as a big public decision-maker.
Cooperative
You enjoy teamwork, play well with others, and prefer getting along to winning.
You're not compelled to win every contest nor to be right all the time.
Acquiescent
You are comfortable in your own skin and don't need to throw your weight around. You'll often choose to be the one who is told what to do rather than the one who's doing the telling, and you sometimes avoid confrontations even if it means that you won't get your way.
You aren't interested in making others bend to your will or in always dishing out criticism. You're not a pushy person, and you like it that way.
Understanding
You are willing to take the time to find out what's going on with other people, especially if they're in distress. You're a good listener, you don't criticize, and you offer unbiased, respectful, honest advice when it's requested. With a high score on the "understanding" trait, it is likely that you are enthusiastic about charitable work, helping others, and making the world a better place.
You don't feel the need to impose your standards on others or say things that, even though true, cause pain.
Empathetic
You are in touch with your own feelings, which helps put you in touch with the feelings of others.
You don't buy the logic that your happiness comes ahead of everyone else's because unless you're happy you're incapable of making anyone else happy.
Sympathetic
You have a knack for knowing what's going on in the hearts and minds of those around you, without their having to tell you explicitly. People tend to turn to you with their problems because they know you care, and that you will likely offer good advice and a helping hand.
You do not feel that people with sad stories are just looking for attention, or have brought their problems upon themselves.
Giving
You enjoy helping others, lending a hand, providing emotional or material sustenance. You don't see taking care of others as an imposition but as a vital and important part of your life.
You're not the kind of person who runs out of patience for people in need, nor do you feel that treating people with kindness is bad because it insulates them from the harsh realities of life.
Reserved
You are somewhat shy, or at least unwilling to spend all your time socializing. With you it's true that "still waters run deep," which is why many of your acquaintances never get to know you well.
You are not always ready to talk at the drop of a hat. Whether you're in the office or at a party, you're not likely to be found gabbing away in the middle of a group of people.
Discreet
You tend to hold onto your thoughts until you have something important to say, and even then you're not comfortable imposing your ideas on others unless you know they're truly interested.
You don't enjoy talking for the sake of talking, and you have no desire to be the center of attention.
Are they right? Are they wrong? Who knows! ...I suppose I should, actually.

Among it, you can see amazing things such as my actual face, photos I take with my cell phone, and personal project thingys that are too inconsequential for me to post here.

General | Posted 14 years agoHey guys, remember that game where you'd blow people up while stealing briefcases or standing on colored platforms?
Yeah, the people who made it put out a new video or something:
https://youtu.be/36lSzUMBJnc
Also you can play now. Yes, you! You personally! Who didn't have the money for the game! Now you've got no excuse...unless your computer sucks. But that's not Valve's fault.

Wait, you already clicked? Well then change your password or something; shit.
Hope this helps!
EDIT: Wait, no. Just a Javascript thingy prompting your FA account to do a single piece of work. Not malicious...to the users. But a kick in the ass for the admins, apparently.

Video Review
General | Posted 14 years agoI got inspired the other day, so I took some time to compose this, a YouTube review of a game I played as a kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2hk4WAs0n4
It's not terrible, at least, I hope.
EDIT: Apparently, you can embed YouTube videos! Let's see.

That done, on with more art!

Expenses piling up
General | Posted 15 years agoI pay $55 a month to go to school, and $40 a month plus gas to be able to drive there.
My textbooks cost more than my classes.
My brother's birthday is on the 19th. My mother's is on the 22nd.
I owe my state $35. My federal tax refund this year is $9.
My job cut my hours. Again.
Fuck money.

FC trip report: Whooo.
General | Posted 15 years agoHello!
So, by now, you've probably realized that I've been to FC, or FurCon, or Further Confusion, or the Gates of Hell, depending on who you ask. And yes, I came back safely. (Safe was the journey, anyway, but something came along for the ride. More on that later.)
Thursday: Arrived at 2 to find
amtrack88 in the lobby. After a bit, we find that we're in Room 2012 (The Apocalypse Suite, as I called it), and we unpacked. I forgot that I had packed no pants, I had to call home to get them. Whoops. Fortunately, it is around an hour/half-hour ride there from where I am, so it was not too troubling. Met
keenyfox and
domafox while picking up my pre-reg badge. Went out to dinner with Amtrack and Keeny and a couple roommates. Then went to the dance later that night; awesome.
How come more people don't pre-register? That doesn't make any sense.
Friday: Up at nine, out by ten, pick up pants, back to the room again. Then into the Dealer's Room, where after some browsing, I settled on getting a nice sketch from
mongooseink. I'm quite pleased with the result, and I wish I had a scanner/good camera so I could share it with you all! (He didn't finish it till the next day since he had other drawings to do too, but still, hahaha). Spent some time in the pool; a bit closer to cold than tepid, but still pretty enjoyable. The sauna was comfy, as well. That was pleasing.
Saturday: Out by eleven to the dealer's room, where the sketch from MDG was waiting, then I decided to get one from
moredena, which turned out very nice. Fursuit parade at noon; judging by the cheers, my suit was very well-received. Don't really remember what I did after that...played some games, went to dinner at Pizza My Heart, and some time at the dance.
Pizza My Heart was very overrated, by the way; that was nasty pizza.
Sunday: Pack up out of the room, join
snowmeow101 and his roommates. Fortunately, by noon, I'm all settled in, and go to the Critterlympics. Very disorganized, but I did have fun.
Went browsing around the Dealer's Room some more, caught the FC: Unleashed show too. Didn't get anything special this time around, though. Instead, I hung on to my sketchbook and did some arting with Domafox and Keeny. I'm quite pleased with what they did. :D We enjoyed each others' company until 3 AM.
Monday: Spent most of the day playing Genesis games in the almost-completely-empty game room. Left the hotel around 2:45 to make my train home at 3:30. That was plenty of fun!
I contracted some strain of flu on my way out, it seems. Thought it was going out on Thursday, came back in full force today, Friday. Euugh...
Still, pleasing fun fun pleasing all around.

General | Posted 15 years agoYeah, I'm goin'.
Who will you be with?
Well, from Thursday to Sunday, I room with
amtrack88 and some others, then Sunday night I room with
snowmeow101 and some more others.
Do you do trades?
Sure, I could do those...I think.
What suits will you have?
I shall have a suit...but I won't tell you what it is!
What is your gender?
Male
How old are you?
22
Can I touch you?
Sure. But be nice about it. The good kind of nice, not the naughty kind of nice, mind you.
Can I talk to you?
You sure can. But will I be able to carry on a conversation?
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
Nah; I'm no drinker...feel free to buy me food, though.
Can I give you lots of money?
Absolutely~!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs, sure, but let's try to avoid the snuggles; I seem to have an unconscious reaction to those.
How tall are you?
It varies between 5'11" and 6' even, depending on whether I'm slouching or not.
You look pissed off out of suit can I come up to you?
Go ahead. Misery loves company, and all that.
Are you nice?
I generally try to be, and I think most people agree. Even if I'm not happy about something, I still try to be nice about it.
Can I stalk you?
If you must, at least have the good sense to tell me first. Good luck keeping up, anyway: I'm a wanderer.
How long are you going?
Thursday through Monday afternoon.
Do you have an artist table?
Hell no.
Do you like parties?
Parties can be cool. Long as no one gets drunk/high; that tends to lead to bad things happening.
If i see you, how should i get your attention?
A friendly "Hello!" never hurts. Except when it would, but I've yet to encounter such a situation.

Going to FC, but I need a bit o' help...
General | Posted 15 years agoI don't know how many of you are going to FC yourselves, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask here. Of course, if you aren't going or are not lacking room, perhaps you know someone who is, and may be willing to help out?
Sorta-crossposting from the FC forums:
I find myself in a bit of a pickle; I plan to be staying with an out-of-town friend for the con, but unfortunately he is only planning to stay through Sunday, not through Monday. As such, I have nowhere to sleep Sunday night; whoops.
If any of you happen to be attending, would you have room for a guy like me on Sunday night? I sleep on the floor; got my own air mattress and everything. Will compensate you as necessary for your hospitality! (Within reason, that is; I am a decent man!)

[x] Alice in Wonderland (1951)
[x] Bambi (1942)
[x] Cinderella (1950)
[x] Dumbo (1941)
[x] Fantasia (1940) A timeless classic, really. No matter how old it gets, this film will probably never be out of style: everything about it is something either aurally or visually appealing (usually both).
[x] Lady and the Tramp (1955)
[x]Mary Poppins (1964) I just can't get over Dick Van Dyke's performance...and his lack of the letter H.

[x] Sleeping Beauty (1959)
[x] Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

[x] Oliver and Company (1986)
[x] Pete's Dragon (1977)

[x] Robin Hood (1973) You're on a furry site; if you don't have an x in this box, you are definitely lying.
[x] The Sword In The Stone (1963) This, I think, is probably one of my favorite Disney films. Everything about it is just a lot of fun, from the writing of the characters to the songs created for it.
THE DISNEY RENAISSANCE
[x] Aladdin (1992) This is probably the first Disney film I really watched - and understood - as a kid. I re-watched it a little while back, and I'm happy to say it's just as good as I remembered it!
[x] Beauty and the Beast (1991)
[x] A Goofy Movie (1995) Also a favorite of mine; I think Goofy's just the coolest out of the Big Three at Disney. Sorry, even with his attitude, Donald doesn't match up with Goofy. :V And Mickey...well, he's just too plain to compete with either of them.
[x] Hercules (1997)
[x] The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
[x] The Lion King (1994)
[x] The Little Mermaid (1989)

[x] The Princess and the Frog (2009)
[ ] Treasure Planet (2002)
PIXAR
[x] A Bug's Life (1998)
[x] Cars (2006) I felt like this was just some attempt by Pixar to see if they could do things like Dreamworks. It just doesn't feel right.
[x] Finding Nemo (2003)
[x] The Incredibles (2004) Easily one of the best movies Pixar has ever done, and my favorite out of all of them.
[x] Monsters Inc. (2001)
[o] Ratatouille (2007)
[x] Toy Story (1995)
[x] Toy Story 2 (1999)

[x] Thumbelina (1994)
[x] Titan AE (2000)
[o] A Troll in Central Park (1994) I disliked it before it was cool.
CLAYMATION

[x] Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
[ ] Coraline (2009)
[x] Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) Okay, so it's not clay; sue me. This got a lot of flack for having a "weird style." I thought, wasn't that the point?
CGI GLUT
[x] Antz (1998)
[ ] Happy Feet (2006)
[x] How to Train Your Dragon (2010) This movie seems to have hit all the right notes; the fact that people keep mistaking it for a Pixar film says quite a bit about its quality! A must-see!
[ ] Kung Fu Panda (2008) Not seen it yet, but I want to SO MUCH; I've heard so many great things about it!
[ ] Madagascar (2005) Though I haven't heard quite as many good things about this as I have Kung Fu Panda, I've still heard good things about this.

[x] Over the Hedge (2006)
[x] The Polar Express (2004)
[x] Shark Tale (2005) This basically embodies everything I hate about Dreamworks: lazy writing, weird sequences, freaky-looking visuals, characters with punchable faces, attempting to cover it all up with a glut of star power. Ugh...I've never seen an animated movie as bad as this one, and that's saying a lot.
[x] Shrek (2001)
[x] Shrek 2 (2004)
[o] Shrek The Third (2007) It's true; this is the worst of them all. Not that that's saying much, a-hyuck. :B
IMPORTS

[ ] Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
[x] Final Fantasy: Advent Children (2005) I'm ambivalent on this one: I'm not an FF7 fan, but I guess this was pretty good.

[ ] Raggedy Ann and Andy: The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile (1979)
[o] Witch’s Night Out (1978)
OTHER ANIMATED MOVIES
[ ] Animal Farm (1954)
[x] Animalympics (1980) Furry, schmurry, I like this one because of the SNL voice acting: Billy Crystal doing a Howard Cosell impression, Gilda Radner doing Barbara Walters, Harry Shearer performing a voice for a bulldog that sounds suspiciously like Kent Brockman off The Simpsons...
[x] Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon The Movie (2007)
[ ] Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

[o] Quest For Camelot (1999)
[ ] Ringing Bell (1978)
[x] The Road to El Dorado (2000)

[x] Snoopy Come Home (1972) Far and away one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. For those who disagree, choke on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jldngb69BTc

Anticipated Movie: Jackass 3D
General | Posted 15 years agoEverybody knows who the Jackass crew is. You do too, don't you? Of course you do. Everybody does; and within a minute of watching any clip of it, you automatically know whether you love it or hate it. (To paraphrase the Aisle Seat review of the second film)
I'll admit, I love the series. Why do I love it so much? Well, for starters, the Jackass series seems to be physical comedy in its purest form; there's no need for a plot or really any attempt to tie them all together; the stunts are just one clip after another. Here's an analogy - imagine your typical physical-comedy film as a scrambled porno channel: Jackass is that same channel in HD, with all the boring parts cut out so you get to enjoy the stuff you laugh the most at.
Second, in a way, the Jackass Crew can act as something as a role-model. Now, don't misinterpret me here: I don't find them role models by their actions - by their actions, they're probably some of the worst role models in moving pictures - but by their attitudes. This is especially evident in Number Two. Take, for example, Johnny Knoxville: he faces a firing squad of rubber pellets, nearly gets beat up by a skater dude, avoids a rocket through his chest by mere inches, and takes on not one, but TWO bulls. Or Steve-O, who takes a leech on his eye, and shakes it off as a Badge of Honor. (To say nothing of the sobriety he's taken up; more on that in a minute.) Or Ehren McGhehey, the victim of the gross, freaky prank near the end of the movie. Or even two part-time performers, April and Phil Margera, who fell victim (Well, April technically; Phil was in on it too) to the Ol' Switcheroo. Despite everything they put each other through, no matter how physically or mentally injured they might end up from what they do, they ultimately manage to laugh it all off and move on to even greater performances. Hell, even after official filming was finished, Knoxville was still hyped up and doing stunts, trying to jump over parking meters and signs. Theirs is an attitude of perseverance through tough times, and something I find to be admirable. (Charlie Brown's a great role model for similar reasons, though I think you'll find he's much more family-friendly.)
Third, similar to the last point, the whole Jackass Crew really cares about each other, and ultimately look out for each other. In the first movie, when the golf cart Knoxville and Dunn are riding in flips over, everyone's quick to run over and try to help out Knoxville when he ends up trapped inside. Outside the series, several of the cast members came to Steve-O's aid when he became suicidal, and got him help. Steve-O has been clean ever since, over two years and counting. See the short documentary "Steve-O: Demise and Rise" for an in-depth look at how everything went down (It floats around YouTube in clips, but MTV hosts it on their site in its entirety last I checked); I highly suggest watching it, it really presents a heartwarming side to the whole gang.
Fourth, really, these people are living the American Dream. I mean, think about it: they're a group of friends doing the crazy things that the rest of us sit around and just think "What if...?" about with our own friends. And they make millions from it!
I had other points I was going to make, but I don't remember them now. I am sure they were decent points.
In conclusion, I am anticipating the release of this movie! I shall be there Thursday night, at 12:01 AM, for the very first showing. I can't wait to have Chris Pontius' big 3D dick flying in my face! I have work the very next morning at 9 AM, but I don't care, a good thing's worth playing through rough times for! WHOOOOOOOOO~
Christ, I feel like I just wrote a high school essay.

Bands
General | Posted 15 years agoYou know what band's awesome? Gorillaz.
You know what's even more awesome than listening to Gorillaz?
Listening to them live. At your very first concert.
7:30! Oracle Arena! Section 113! WHOOOOOO!
I'm super-excited for the end of the month! (Of course, not that I wouldn't be anyway; it is Halloween!)
Hell, I'm excited for the month in general; a whole bunch of awesome stuff's going down, Gorillaz is just the icing on the cake! :D

Anticipated Game: Poker Night at the Inventory
General | Posted 15 years agoThis is an upcoming PC game by Telltale Games. You know, the guys making those new Sam & Max and Monkey Island games? Yeah, and now they're making a character-based poker-face-reading game. See for yourself: http://store.steampowered.com/app/31280/
I've always loved crossovers, so just seeing Max and the Heavy together sold me on this game (The $5 price tag didn't hurt, either), but I got especially excited after reading this GamePro interview with some of the game's designers: http://www.gamepro.com/article/prev.....the-inventory/ In particular, this part: "It's easy to make the Heavy just say, 'I will murder!' at every turn, and for Tycho to freak out," explains Vanaman.
Rodkin continues, "Right, but then we have Tycho threaten to mail-order in the Heavy's sister as his wife."
"It was important to build those dynamics to make them feel natural," notes Vanaman. "Strong Bad and Tycho, for instance, hate each other -- I don't think they ever agree -- but Tycho and Max get along really well, where the Heavy is wary of Tycho, loves Max, and thinks Strongbad is a tiny Heavy."
Just the description of the character interactions are making me laugh. "The Heavy thinks Strong Bad is a tiny Heavy." SOLD!
Oh, and the best part? "We're hoping that 'At the Inventory' will start to mean something if the space is cool and the game is good." SEQUELS! Seeing Guybrush Threepwood play cards would be a whole lot of funny.

Plays, Trades, and Messengers.
General | Posted 15 years agoSo, hi there. It's meeee! I've got a few things to say and show in this journal.
First, I've viewed several Let's Play videos as of late. Some of them suck; it's just someone playing a game quietly as you watch them, sometimes interjecting something a joke they stole from The Simpsons or Mystery Science Theater.
There are good ones out there, though. I collected what I found to be the top 5 here for your viewing convenience:
A man tries to spell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j4lQrj5VU0
Genghis Khan, houseguest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPx9zwH9IWc
Messing up Mickey Mouse's kitchen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svz4AU_kS3U
Critique of another LP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayeMqizulX0
An Abridged Point-and-Click Adventure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAJiCERMxfI
Second, I'm happy to announce that I'm officially open for trades. Hopefully I'll be substantially faster with them than I was before. Won't take 2-3 months like the last couple of times.
Third, I acquired a few new messengers. Or at least new ways of being messaged. My new Yahoo name, darkdcchaos, and a reboot of my MSN address, darkchaos{at}eskimobob.com. That way, if I block you on FA, you've now got three different ways of stalking me!
...and that was it. Byebye now.
EDIT: No, wait, I think I'll add on a little more.
An open letter to those of you participating in this "Vagina meme": You're taking a picture of your genitals, tracing over them, and then posting the tracing on the internet. What part of that doesn't sound like a bad idea?
