Character Roster
Posted 8 months agoI've found that sometimes I show artists my gallery and ask them if any of my characters appeal to them to work with. It occurs to me that maybe it'd be nice to have some descriptions for their themes and personalities, for what kinds of things they might use them in. And so, here we are! If you're paying attention to me already, then you likely know that "round" and "expansion" are my defaults, so everything here will be framed in that light. Not all of my commissions will be kinks, but the various characters are suited for particular ones.
Darkwulf
Darkwulf is my oldest character, and more or less my fursona, as much as that sort of thing has meaning these days. He's kind of all-purpose within my general interests. Feeder or feedee, trickster, instigator. There's a reason he's still my account name after all this time, and he can be used in a variety of ways.
General-Purpose
Midnight Snack
Midnight Snack is my ponysona, and is mostly Darkwulf with the serial numbers filed off. A roguish unicorn, his telekinesis is much better suited to keeping a large number of small items moving than a single large one, so he excels in working a kitchen. He is very much a feeder as well as a glutton, and with his Special Talent being "Excess", he uses his magic to subtly (and sometimes not-so-subtly) goad others into overindulgence.
My Little Pony, Feeder, Feedee, Magic
Gavin
Gavin is a Gatox - think fluffy, toothy monster thing, with a bit more hug than bite. He's a soft and warm guy, who loves to hug and blushes at attention. His role can probably be summarized as "Hapless Victim". Things happen to him, which usually result in expanding him and prompting a "not again" attitude. Slime monsters, magic spells, inflation, feeding. Gavin is a viable target for them all!
Victim, Expansion, Inflation, Feedee
Heather
Heather is a glamor queen among rabbits. She ranges from chubby to fat, feedee or foodie, and is absolutely fine in being dressed up in as elaborate outfits as you can find. No matter what size she is, though, it's exactly correct. She is royalty, and she'll never be made to feel uncomfortable about herself!
Chubby, Feedee, Costuming, Attitude
Akana
Akana was accidentally cursed by a drunk sorceress at a cocktail party. She now absorbs ambient mana - and sometimes active magic - from around her, storing it inside her and growing more apparently pregnant as she does. Due to the tangled spells involved, only the sorceress responsible has been able to draw the mana out of her, returning her to a more normal shape for a time. (Per my own tastes, this is entirely aesthetic - she has a pregnant shape of constantly variable size, and often suffers from similar physical symptoms, but there will be no actual pregnancy or birth involved in her art.) Akana has grown accustomed to her condition, though it's hard to not react in particular ways when her girth suddenly expands due to a nearby spell, or if she should have taken a trip to see the sorceress yesterday rather than today.
Pregnancy, Pregnancy Expansion, Mana Vessel, Magic is Inconvenient
Evelina Rossetti
Evelina is the sorceress responsible for Akana's curse, and while she doesn't have the faintest clue how she put the spell together, she has become obsessed with the results. A sorceress who can store prodigious quantities of mana is a powerful one indeed, even if the vessel has to be a living person. Evelina isn't evil, per se, but she's selfish, and while she doesn't set out to hurt anyone with her experiments, she will inconvenience a thousand people if it brings her closer to her goal. When she asks someone to help her test a new spell, it's quite likely she will not give them all the specifics. Evelina will experiment on herself, if necessary, but she would much rather the vessel be someone else.
Magic, Inflation, Expansion, Weird Spells
Kitt
Kitt is also a Gatox. Her design group was themed on the planets, and Kitt herself was themed on Earth, so her motif is "Gaia". Changing as the tides, she can be whimsical or stern as the situation needs. Her magic takes the form of plants and flowers, fruits and vines, and all they can be used for.
Plants, Vines, Bondage, Hypnosis, Feeder, Fruit Transformation

MWFF 2019 - Looking for Sketchbook Artists Again!
Posted 6 years agoI started going through my watch list, and I got up through "D" before I ran out of ambition.
Is there anybody I should watch for at MWFF this year, particularly in the Artist's Alley, that I could look at to add to my "Cute, Round Things" sketchbook? Speak up if you'll be there, or if you know someone who will! I'm running out of artists I just know to watch for, and am now into the search phase!
Bonus points if it's someone I wouldn't think of, but who would have a lot of fun with the subject, whether or not it's their usual!

The Round House - Update
Posted 6 years agoI've said for ages The Round House was going to sit in its current status indefinitely as an archive. I've received notice that my host is forcing a software upgrade, and that upgrade doesn't appear to be compatible with Gallery.
I really don't feel an urge or drive to rebuild the site to use some alternative, so folks might want to give it one or two last looks to make sure if there's anything you want to save.
Spread the word a little. It's been quite a run, hasn't it?

Looking for MWFF artists! "Cute, Round Things" theme-book
Posted 8 years agoHey, all! So, I have this themed sketchbook of "cute, round things" that I've been hauling around to conventions for (a lot of) years. I'm constantly looking for new artists to add to it. (I have some repeats in the early years, but once I got more comfortable with conventions I branched out.) Sometimes it's really easy to spot someone from samples they have at their table, sometimes they have one or two items in a print book, and sometimes I sort of half-remember a name from reputation.
Help make my life easier! Are you an artist, or do you know one, who will be at MWFF (either as a dealer or shooting for Artist's Alley), and who enjoys drawing sketches of cute critters who are fat, or stuffed, or inflated, or pregnant, or pretty much any reason to make them nice and round? My preferred method is usually to find an artist who likes the subject matter in general, and tell them to have fun with it; I usually get some really nice pictures when they're enjoying themselves! I'm gonna start taking a list of people to name-hunt, so any suggestions would be super awesome!

His Official Capacity updated - Question for Readers
Posted 13 years ago
Question for our readers: Previously, I had been posting a plain-text version of the story, and he had been posting a formatted PDF version. The formatted versions can include such futuristic features as bold and italicized text. I'm contemplating whether there is further need to post a plain text version any more.
So, for the readers: Do you want or need the plain text versions still? Or would both Val and I posting the formatted version be fine with you?
Car is repaired.
Posted 13 years agoGot the car back today. Turned out that something had caused the pressure to go up even MORE. The mechanic replaced the expansion valve, did work on the drier, recharged it (naturally), and the ever popular "labor".
In the end, it set me back $300. Not the 5 or 6 hundred I was afraid of, but it still sucks a little on top of the other repairs I had done fairly recently. There were one or two folks that were interested in sending a little my way, and if you still are, I sure wouldn't say no. But make no mistake, I'm in no danger of missing a house payment or anything.
Thanks to everybody who listened to me vent and panic!

Being "That Guy". Sorry.
Posted 13 years agoI don't want to be "that guy", but right now I'm in a sick kind of panic. The compressor in my car has started making noise. Two years ago, the compressor on my last car went out and catastrophically self-destructed. It took several days and about $500 to fix.
I don't have that kind of money right now if it turns out that bad. I just had my valve covers, spark plugs, and wiring harness done for a (thankfully) unrelated issue. I've been employed for reasonable pay, but less than I need for my degree and student loans, for about ten years. Between my house, student loans, and yes, some stupid debt I should never have let happen, I'm carrying more debt than I really should.
I know that Furry is full of mooches, with just the occasional person with more disposable income than they need, who like to throw it at good ideas. If I know any of those, and if they happen to think that I'm a good idea, please drop me a line.
I fully admit that I'm still panicking right now. It COULD be less dire than I fear. I just won't know until at least Tuesday, because my mechanic can't get me in until then.

His Official Capacity: Update
Posted 14 years agoIt has been a long time since the last post. Some life issues have caused delays, and the delays went on so long that it became far too easy to just stay at rest.
The next two chapters are nearly finished. To get the ball rolling, as it were,
valachko came up with the idea to start posting Chapter 8 in segments. This chapter consists of entries from Velachko's personal journal, so it has natural breaking points built into it. The first segment has been posted in his account over here, and will continue to be posted in his scraps. When the chapter is complete, he will post an entire formatted document on his account, and I will post the complete text-only document on mine, as we have been.
Hopefully by the time he finishes posting Chapter 8, we will also have Chapter 9 at or near completion, and will also have our momentum back!
I have been asked a few times, and right now, the story is looking like twelve chapters. That is entirely subject to change at any point until its completion, naturally, but at least that give you some sort of idea how much story is left!
Enjoy, and feel free to comment as you see fit! Again, we are terribly sorry for this long delay.

Back to normal; parting note
Posted 14 years agoWell, since Pony Week was retroactively changed to Pony Weekend, I'm swapping back to my usual icon. However, I do have one final note:
Denial is Magic!
Posted 14 years agoI, for one, welcome our new pony overlords.
Keep at it, Twilight! You'll get it eventually!

Art urge returning
Posted 14 years agoYeah, I periodically get the inescapable itch for more Darkwulf art. It's an addiction!
There are a few people I've had in mind; some of 'em I've commissioned before, but not for a while, all that sort of thing. But it occurs to me; every now and then, I see someone who gets a fatty or inflation commission from the most unexpected people. They've never done the sort before, it's the only picture of the subject in their entire gallery, and sometimes they turn out really amazing. I never know how the commissioner decided to ask these particular artists to do them.
So, I figured I'd ask the public! Anybody know of artists who I might not think of, that may enjoy drawing a round wolf for me? I'm not talking immediately (unless any of those "will take 5 scandalously underpriced commissions" deals open up with them), but soon-ish anyway?

Curiosity Filled the Bat!
Posted 15 years agoI've had a few chats with folks about His Official Capacity, and what people think is going on. There's a good bit of story left, but it's really interesting to find out what sorts of impressions are being left, and what people think are going to happen.
I mentioned some of what I've heard to
valachko, and he's at least as curious as me. So please, pop on over to his journal over here and let him know about your impressions, interests, and theories about where the story might be going. I'll be watching, too!

And we're back!
Posted 15 years agoCircumstances beyond our control kept
valachko and I from getting any serious work done on His Official Capacity, 'til now. Chapter four has been posted, and work is underway to shake off the dust and overcome the inertia that I've accumulated from this unintended hiatus.
No promises, but I hope to get things shaped back up to at least a similar schedule that was being kept before; originally, we had even hoped to pick up the pace a bit. This still is going to be a rather long story, and you folks have been quite patient!

Hi, everybody!
Posted 16 years agoI don't normally take the time to shout on everybody's page, thanking them for watches, or favorites, or all that. But so many new people are watching me because of the Duo comic I posted that I just can't help but greet everybody. (Thanking people for faving them would be kind of silly, though, since it was Duo who did all the work!)
So yeah. Glad to have gotten your attention, and I hope you browse around my gallery and have a look at the stories there, which might interest folks because they're similar in style to the comic's script. And the newest story is still in progress!

tl;dr
valachko approached me and asked how I felt about releasing HOC under a Creative Commons license. (Believe me; it may seem kind of premature, but once we get rolling, I'm sure it will grab some of you the way it has us.) So we have.
The existing chapter and all future ones are released under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike license. In a nutshell, you can share and redistribute the story, or make derivative works (use the characters, illustrate, whatever), so long as you attribute the original to myself and Velachko, release your works under a similar license, and do so for non-commercial purposes.

Does anybody play the World of Warcraft card game?
Posted 16 years agoI'm looking to get rid of my collection, and this is sort of a last-ditch thing to save me the pain of putting it up on eBay.
The collection's pretty extensive, and I'm not letting it go for cheap. I'm also more interested in getting the entire thing sold off, not just individual cards. So if anybody's interested, here's a list of what I have (more or less; I added a few more since this spreadsheet was made); have a look at it, and drop me a note if you're interested in making me a reasonable offer.

Round House site registration
Posted 16 years agoIt looks like site registration at the Round House has been broken for a couple months, due to some security permissions changing out from under me. Anybody that wanted to register, but has had problems, should be able to do so now.
I have to re-state, though, that there's not really anything available to registered users that isn't available to guests, but from the looks of my registration queue, people still like to register. :)

Well.
Posted 19 years agoI seem to have a few people watching me. I've always sort of wondered why, since I never actually contribute anything in these sorts of places.
But what the heck. I feel the urge to do something. Make it worth your while.
When people offer to share things with me, I always duck my head in shame, and tell them that I can't do anything artistic in return; all I can do is be appreciative. Which, believe me, I am. But that's not entirely truthful. I have done some writing in the past. I have one story (and a follow-up vignette) that has been on my site for a few years, and another "character background" story that I believe has vanished from the internet for some time.
So, I think I'll go ahead and start putting them up here. I'm sure that some of my watchers have probably seen at least one of the stories before, but there are probably some who haven't. And if people like them enough, maybe I'll get motivated to do some more of the stuff that's been bouncing around in my head.
