I'm taking a coffee break, and i thought i'd use these five minutes to write down a little rant.

I'm probably late to the pony rant party, but wtv.

I've watched the show, i've liked the show, i've drawn fanart, i've been where most of you guys already have been.

I still can't for the life of me understand where the obsession is coming from. I can't deny it is a really fun show and that the characters are compelling beyond what recent TV has allowed in YEARS. But SERIOUSLY? I see/read people orgasming over the show like it was the second coming of christ.

I can understand when you LIKE something. but this has gone past beyond liking. The zeal surrounding bronies and their attitudes have me both cringing and in stitches. The flow of fanart, spinoff characters, ask-*insert pony name* blogs, original pony characters, photoshop edits, tasty pony porn and raunchy pony porn, etc. is not only staggering but choking.

It's not only a LOT of material; it's everywhere.

I personally feel like they [the bronies] are just trying to shove a huge amount of ponies down your throat until you get used to the taste and you start to like it. Like they can't feel right about liking it if everybody else doesn't agree with it.

I used to like the show, but thanks to the bronies, i'm fairly indeferent to it now-a-days.

Anyway, my question stands: Why are the ponies like crystal meth to you bronies?

So, Thanks to a tip from one of you guys (he wishes to remain anonymous, don't know why XD) I managed to recover most of my data in the drive. :D

All it took was a heat gun (which by sheer luck i happen to own) to reflow the soldering to the port.

This of course was no permanent fix (and it wasn't meant to be), but it allowed me to recover my info and back it up as i should have in the first place.

So, Take that, Western Digital! You won't get my money this time. XD

Well, turns out about a year ago i bought an external 1tb drive to backup all of my stuff.

This thing even if a bit cumbersome (requires a clunky power source), worked perfectly and had all the space i needed. My Macbook pro dies a few months later, and i'm left with no working computer, so i get one lent.

I saved all of my stuff directly into the drive, so i've no backup of the stuff. And guess what? the usb mini-port on it just de-soldered from the PCB. I tried using a sata to usb adapter, but this model (My book essentials) has a real time encryption chip on the pcb.

I spoke with Western Digital over the phone and they tell me, that even if i buy the component i won't be able to get my data back because each PCB contains a unique decryption Key. So i have to pay about 140 usd for them to recover my data and send a new drive back.

I figured that it should be a simple task to Solder in a new usb mini-port, but the tracks are too small for a run-of-the-mill soldering iron, and one would need a VERY steady pulse to pull it off. I double checked and no other component is damaged and if i hold the port in a position it works alright, but i don't want to risk corrupting this data.

I was wondering (probably a long shot, but worth the try, anyway) if any of you guys have the experience or equipment to repair this kind of component?

My wacom pen is VERY old, and it's been feeling a bit flimsy these last couple of weeks and i'm afraid it's going to die on me.

I looked around a bit and buying a new one (Intuos 3 grip pen) ranks up to 80 usd. Do you guys happen to know somewhere i could get a cheaper one? even one of those generic pens, i dunno. I'm not really able to spend that much dough on just a pen :(
