HEY GUYS!
General | Posted 12 years agoRight, so I know there hasn't been a debate for a while. That's purely because I've lost a lot of my motivation, especially in this! No one is debating, there are 2 or 3 comments on the latest ones, and while I appreciate the people who made those comments greatly, PLEASE debate and talk to each other, that is the POINT of this GROUP to DEBATE! You get what I'm saying?
Here's a proper debate that just broke out in someone's journal (to be fair it's quite shouty and rude and argumentative, but it's a damn sight better than what's here):
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4748831
I wish I didn't have to berate you all about this, but the lack of activity is only going to cause this group to go into further decline. If you have ANYTHING you want to say, suggestions, questions, topics for debate, even if you just want to shout at me then DO! Just do, say something, that's what Debate Furs is about, making your voice heard!
THE NEWEREST DEBATE!
General | Posted 12 years agoStill every week, just a little bit late >.>
An oldie but a goodie: Week #4 - Gay/lesbian marriage rights: Do homosexual people have the right to get legally married? Are civil partenerships seen as not being enough? Should the Church be left out of marriage decisions? Does this affect other laws? Could this be a way out of stipulations such as inheritance tax?
I decided on this subject after the news that gay marriage rights have been passed in the UK Parliament. This, however, did give way for questions about incest laws and tax avoidance that may have to be addressed.
This IS a touchy subject, and I ask that everyone stays calm and collected so we can have a proper DEBATE.
Commence!

THE NEWEST DEBATE!
General | Posted 12 years agoYes, I know what it looks like "Oh, he's left the account again, it's all going to go to s*** and BLAHBLAHBLAH." But I am not giving up on this group! Life's unfortunately turned stoopid, I can't do much about that, but I was really disheartened by the lack of comments on the last journal A.K.A NONE. Come on people let's go, go, go!
As I like to try and do, here's a debate based off some international news: CIA agent Ryan Fogle was arrested in Russia last week for spying, supposedly recruiting a Russian counter-terrorism agent to work for them. He was arrested after being found wearing a blonde wig, owning other wigs and other substantial objects that proved he was a spy.
Week #3: Should the CIA be sending agents undercover into Russia? Should they be sending them abroad at all? Is this provoking Russia? Is this grounds for another Cold War?
This isn't just Russia, this is also partially about other countries like North Korea, countries that could be a dangerous place to be poking around in, and also the ethics of sending spies into politically explosive countries.
NEWER DEBATE!
General | Posted 12 years ago(Phew! Nearly missed this week >.>)
Week #2: Is the art quality here slipping?
Is the art quality on FA declining? Is there a lack of new artists? Are adoptables, YCH auctions and pre-pose commissions draining the creativity? Are artists disappearing or removing themselves from FA?
This week's debate was sparked by a journal from Todex about the art quality declining on FA (funnily enough), you can read it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4551275
If there are any artists reading this, I'd especially like your opinion on the state of art here, and what FA may be heading towards in the future.
NEW DEBATE!
General | Posted 12 years agoConsidering this group has been gone for so long, I'm starting the week numbers again, and this week we have a more lighthearted topic:
WEEK #1 - Is DRM a good move by game manufacturers?: Is DRM working? Is it a good idea? Are there more effective ways of dealing with piracy? Are manufacturers using it as an excuse to make us buy new games?
This is a more fun topic to do with Video Games :D
Here are some links for those less well informed:

Clean debate please, and have fun!
What is Debate Furs?
General | Posted 12 years agoDebate Furs is a safe place for people to gather and debate without persecution or judgement.
We make journals and YOU GUYS debate, talk, and sometimes argue a bit too.
There are unbiased moderators here to stop flamers and people being offensive or horrible will be dealt with swiftly.
Our topics range from deep, meaningful things like Religion and Politics, but we do silly things as well, like Fashion and Video Games.
All we want is for you guys to have fun and a bit of natter.
Everyone is welcome, no one is wrong, and no one is right either!
Such is the world of debating.
Stay tuned for new debates, every week.
A New Beginning
General | Posted 12 years agoYes! Hello!
cheezburger here, if you didn't know, I'm one of the moderators here and I have some updates and such to get out.First of all, you all may have seen that Raveer has resigned from the position of Head Mod and account owner. Due to unforeseen circumstances, that role has passed to me and I have to take up the baton.
itrollyou, the founder of this group, has also been suspended from FA. I cannot say for certain why this is, nor do I want any vicious rumours spread about her. Raveer will be staying on as a backup mod and our other mod
bryanlutra is staying on as well until this group is back on it's feet.Secondly, for this reason, I am looking for new mods to help monitor debates as doing it single-handedly is a task I'm not foolish enough to attempt. Should you want to apply then please note this account with a little bit about yourself and why you want to moderate here (no previous moderating experience required).
Thirdly, this group is COMING BACK! Oh yes, debates are going to be weekly, this group will be more active, and I hope to start raking in more watchers for larger and more awesome debates.
On that note I want to give a big welcome to all our new watchers who we may not've welcomed!
A more up-to-date journal about Debate Furs will be posted soon and a debate topic WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW!
In Summary (for those with short attention spans):
1.
cheezburger is now the Head Mod and account owner.2. We are looking for new moderators, apply through notes to this account.
3. This group is not dead and is coming back bigger, and better.
4. Welcome to all our new watchers!
Happy debating everyone!
Guys, I'm out.
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm dropping my position as a moderator here. Before I do, I'm contacting the other guys here to see if they can become more involved. We just don't seem to have a lot of motion here, so I feel as if I've joined as the ship was sinking... Sorry, everyone.
In the meantime, what do you guys think will happen, should North Korea declare and make an attack, be it on the 38th Parallel or a missile attack elsewhere? How would the world retaliate?
~Raveer

We're back!
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, that was scary. Page was down for a few days, apologies for the missed journal updates. As it is right now, I'm staying in Monterey, California, so I'll be a bit busy. But here's a question for the lot of you: Where have furries been opposed in media? Like, where has it been implied or directly stated that furries are "bad" in news or mainstream media? (MTV, pop news, ect.)
Reaching out to y'all, opinions please. Also a reach test.
General | Posted 12 years agoAlright, we had low responces to the last journal... So, I thought some more. Maybe I was a bit too "formal", with all the RESOLVED and whatnot. I'll be more causal for the next ones.
So, the questions are...
What would you guys like to see/read? How many of us, the group and its watchers, are involved in speech and debate as a hobby/passion/profession? Anything else you'd like to get off your chest?
Give us some feedback, or we'll be posting to a wall. Please. Do it for the tacos. ;~;

raveerNEW TOPIC: Uniforms in Schools. + New style
General | Posted 13 years agoHey everyone,
raveer again.
Alright, so I've put some thought into it, and I've decided we'll be doing "Resolution-styled" debates. They will be written to either support/agree with something or negate/disagree with something. You all, as debaters, must first state as to whether you affirm or negate the final resolution. There are some "whereas" points that state why this bill supports/negates the topic. You may use these, as well as any other points implied or that you have come up with, to support the resolution or negate it.
For example:
Possible arguement:
Random Fur #1:
I agree with this resolution. Blue has been seen as a relaxing color, and seeing that you already have blue streaks, it's familiar to you. I also think that blue should be your favorite because I like blue. And that's why I agree.
Random Fur #2 (In a reply to #1):
What about electric blue, and very deep hues? Wouldn't those possibly excite or depress someone?
These debates are based off the National Forensics League's Congress and Parliament structure for bills. I've also decided that we will be toning down the possible controversy involved. Past topics have been somewhat inflammatory and I would like to see less Pathos crossfire and more Logos and Ethos
Now on to the debate. This week's topic, Uniforms in Schools. More specifically:
Now, as a moderator, I will not be picking sides. The resolution's view was chosen based on a coin flip, and used facts and research, not opinion and personal experience.
I will believe that all of you have either known the rules, or have common sense, but just as a quick reminder: Please keep this professional, or at least casual and light-hearted. I don't want to see the journal in flames, especially as this is my first entry here.
I would also like to ask that you post your MAIN DEBATES as a comment, and that any crossfire questioning directed to said comments should be done so as a REPLY.
IMPORTANT!
This debate topic will close on Friday, before the next journal. I may pick one or two of the best debates to show as an example. I WILL ask for permission beforehand. Should you disagree, I will not use it, no questions asked.
If there are any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding this journal or the setup of the debate, send us a note on

P.S. My favorite color IS blue, can't change that!

Whereas: Students often get harassed or otherwise opposed for wearing certain types of clothes or items;
Whereas: Many schools already require uniforms, or sell a school uniform;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: Since school uniforms could increase productivity and decrease student-student tension, all universities, collages, and other higher education facilities should require students to adhere to a dress code which installs the need for uniforms, be it a school required outfit or a certain style of dress. Now, as a moderator, I will not be picking sides. Alright, let's get up and get at it! New Head Mod
General | Posted 13 years agoHey everyone,
raveer here.
Alright, to start off, I'd like to introduce myself a bit more properly. My name's Raveer, I go by Rav as well, and I've been a member of the FA community for about a year now, being introduced into furry in '08. I've been involved in Speech and Debate for a while now, participating in my high school's Debate team for 3 years, and now attending local community meetings. I'm a ferret, hoping to go into photography, writing when I can, and DJ-ing as a hobby.
To clear the air a bit, I've been brought in to help
itrollyou keep the page running, as she's busy and stressed. I really like the concept of this page, and hope we can take a few steps forward quickly to get up to speed on our regular postings. I'll be posting debate topics weekly, usually every Saturday with a minimal chance of having to post on Friday instead. These topics will be, for the most part, non-controversial topics meant to look for a true and honest opinion. Occasionally, I will throw up a flammable topic, during which I will tune in especially close to make sure everything stays clean and square-cut.
On that topic, when it comes to discipline, I'm a generally laid-back person. If I see anything happen, I'll take prompt steps towards resolving the problem. However, note that I'm not one to dance around the issue. I want direct results. If someone was acting vulgar and misbehaving in the comments, take a screenshot or tell me ASAP via notes with a subject " DEBATE: _______________", and fill in the blank with a few words describing the issue. (i.e. Spammer in Shouts, Flamer in Journal #__, ect.)
Alright, it's about... 4 PM my time (California following PST). I'll be posting an hour on either side, so 3-5 PM PST you can expect a topic to go up.
Use the comments below to say hello, ask questions, or bribe me with tacos to...I mean, suggest ideas for the page.
I'm in a bit of a run today, so any comment questions will be answered by tomorrow, if I don't get to them today.
Have a great day, and we'll get this rock rolling next week with out first topic.
PS: Please, for the time being, ignore the footer below this sentence. It's outdated.

Very, very sorry... IMPORTANT UPDATE
General | Posted 13 years agoah im so sorry guys but heres finally an update
so lately ive been having to draw more and deal with my life so ive neglected my debate fur duties and i apologize
as things progress, i am finding less and less time to update my own pages as well as here
so with that i am 'debating' 2 different decisions for the way this group is going to be from now on:
1) All debates will be monthly or bi-monthly (every 2 months) instead of weekly because i dont think i can keep up with that anymore
OR
2) i will hand over the duties of posting the new debate every week to one of my moderators or whoever here would like to step forward for post that. mind you, you would not be able to debate if you did moderate. i would still be head moderator and take over if all problems happen. almost like a manager or supervisor of this place
i think each has pros and cons and frankly im not sure yet which im going to deiced to do... i would like to gauge some of your guys response to having asked for extra help because we dont have many moderators here...
so if you are interested in being the head debate publisher here please apply! here are few things im looking for in that person:
- must be able to log on weekly on one specific day
- someone who can be tolerant
- a person who can restrain themselves from lashing out and hold their composure
- a high interest and knowledge of debate skills or some experience in that regard
- friendly and welcoming to anyone and everyone
- carefree and can take a joke or two but also understands the rules of the group and will follow them
if you think you can, please send me a note to my main account with the subject being 'debate furs'. comments here are also acceptable
if i get a good response to this i think ill go with 2 and hire on a weekly debate publisher.
sorry once again, as soon as things get cleared up and i come to a decision, everything should be back to normal.

General | Posted 13 years agoAs to the fact i need to prepare for my friends wedding this week I am going to be away for a little bit so there will be an extension added onto week 8's debate until NEXT friday (28th) so its going to be there for another week as to not disrupt the pattern of a new debate on fridays.

1) Stem Cells: Use and Research
2) Should Prostitution be legalized?
3) Drone strikes in Pakistan- Right or Wrong?
4) "ObamaCare"

Week #8 - Pro Life VS. Pro Choice
General | Posted 13 years agoOur eighth week's topic will be on:
Abortion Do women have a right to do to her own body what she wills? Does the unborn child have a right to life? Should there be exceptions in cases of rape and incest or an all out ban? Should the government be getting involved with such a sensitive issue? Taking into account the number of children who are in orphanages and foster care, is adoption a better choice or have an abortion? thoughts on late term abortions? Is aborting a child just a way some women weasel out of being a parent in order to live a care-free life style? I want a clean debate everyone. i know this can be a touchy subject. Last time, we didnt have much of debate so if someone where to humor me and take an opposite stance on someones opinion and start a proper debate that would be lovely. Follow the rules, tho.

Week #5 - FurAffinity's Moderator/Admin's Prob. Management
General | Posted 13 years agoOur fifth week's topic will be on:
FurAffinity's Moderator/Admins Quality of Problem management How would you rate the Mods and Admins on this site? Do you get your problems dealt with quickly or is there a long wait? Do you believe that theres a delay on TT's because of personal issues or they are getting so many submitted? Are the mods, in your opinion, slacking off or working as hard as they can? Do they make unfair rules/changes to the site? Is it their right as a privately owned website to do what they please or should they be doing what the majority of the community demands because this site is surviving on donations? Do they mods and Admins involve their feelings too much or too little? I want a clean debate everyone. i know this can be a touchy subject. Last time, we didnt have much of debate so if someone where to humor me and take an opposite stance on someones opinion and start a proper debate that would be lovely. Follow the rules, tho.
IM GONNA SAY THIS RIGHT NOW: I DO NOT WANT ANY CALL OUTS HERE. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY MODERATORS OR ADMINISTRATORS USERNAMES ON THIS JOURNAL. THANK YOU AND PLEASE ENJOY THIS DEBATE.

Debate Art + Looking for some Moderators + Keep Voting!
General | Posted 13 years agoAs you can tell, this club is hosted on an art website so its more then appropriate for this group to fav your submissions relating to debating!
You can make some fan art or it can be things you have already drawn. Please try to keep it SFW as to the fact there may or may not be minors watching this account. Try to understand that as administrator of this account, I neither condone or support anything and try to keep a neutral ground which includes the subject of adult artwork. I want all arts to remain related to debating and Im afraid that adult art almost has no place here. However, If you do feel that your adult art IS related to the topic here then please state your case in note form.
Artwork can also be related to topics we have covered so far! Please see the archive for the list of topics we have help debates on thus far.
--
Now onto other business..
I am looking for responsible people who have experiences in debating to help out around here! I want to hire on some moderators to this account to help monitor each week's debates as well as checking back on past week's debates to ensure there is no troubles going on.
Some responsibilities to being a moderator on this account will include:
1) Reading over everyone's comments in the debate journals to ensure they are not breaking page rules.
2) Answering questions that anyone may have in relation to the group
3) Recruiting new members by means of advertising each week's debates.
4) Reporting to the administrator any problems that they see happening on this page
5) Must be able to remain neutral on any and all topics while reviewing them (Although you are allowed to participate in each week's topic; just follow page rules)
6) Logging all changes they want to make or problems they see in the newly created Moderator Log
As a moderator you will not be given access to the account. That responsibility lies with me alone. I want things to remain this way to avoid any problems there might be with future mods (i.e.: are not following their duties, disobeyed page rules, or received a ban/temp ban on their personal accounts). This will also be an easier way to point out who has done what instead of generalizing it to the whole group.
If you are interested please contact me on my main account via a note.
--
I would also like to take this time to ask everyone to keep voting for next week's topic and participating in this week's.
vote here > http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3764998/
debate here > http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3764916/
I will also be adding a link to each week's debate in the header and footer of all journals so i dont need to keep making constant reminder journals.
Thank you for taking your time to read everything here!

Week #4 - Should the Government Ban Smoking in Public?
General | Posted 13 years agoOur forth week's topic will be on:
Government's Ban on Smoking in Public Places VS. A Person's Freedom to Smoke. Does a government have a right to tell enforce such things? Are they protecting all non-smokers or are they just being over bearing? Do other people have a right to clean air? Do folks have a right to smoke where they want to and other people can move away if it bothers them? Is this ban just an example of too much government or a government protecting it's people?
