Fuck Horizon Hobby
Posted 16 years agoI don't know if anyone else around here is into the whole R/C thing but I figured I would just do my part to tell everyone I know to stay the hell away from Horizon Hobby.
I received a new plane for christmas, a Typhoon2 3D plug n play. Obviously excited about it, I open the thing up and put it together. Holy shit. It seriously looked like someone had assembled and crashed it before stuffing it back into the box. Pre-attached hinges were just completely missing, the entire thing was dirty, sticker applications look like they'd been done by a drunk 4 year old and the covering job on the wings was just horrendous. On top of all that, the entire fuselage was curved to one side and the vertical stabilizer was anything but vertical.
I was on the phone the next day with Horizon Hobby asking them what were going to do about it. I don't know about you but when something costs around 200 dollars I don't expect ANY quality control issues whatsoever. They told me to send it back to them and they would send out a new one. However, they expected me to pay shipping myself to send their own defective product back. After about a week we got them to send a prepaid shipping label.
Well, after a month and a half, I had a brand new Typhoon 2 PNP ready to put together. Got it here last night and went to work assembling it. I won't take time to point out all the little inconsequential problems with it that made building it a huge pain in the ass (problems that, strangely, did not exist on the first plane).
Anyway, got the thing assembled and it actually looked halfway decent this time. The stickers and covering job still looked like they'd been done by an ape, and it was still a bit dirty, but the control surfaces were attached fine and the body was nice and straight. I decided by this point I didn't really care how it looked anymore as long as the damn thing flew, so I proceeded to install my receiver and start setting up a profile for it on my DX6i.
It was about this time that I found out one of my aileron servos was completely dead, straight out of the box. What the fucking hell.
So my options are pretty much limited to dealing with them more and waiting another fucking month to get another piece of shit defective plane, or replacing the 20-30 dollar servo on my own. Thanks Horizon, merry fucking christmas.

I won't take time to point out all the little inconsequential problems with it that made building it a huge pain in the ass (problems that, strangely, did not exist on the first plane).
Anyway, got the thing assembled and it actually looked halfway decent this time. The stickers and covering job still looked like they'd been done by an ape, and it was still a bit dirty, but the control surfaces were attached fine and the body was nice and straight. I decided by this point I didn't really care how it looked anymore as long as the damn thing flew, so I proceeded to install my receiver and start setting up a profile for it on my DX6i.
It was about this time that I found out one of my aileron servos was completely dead, straight out of the box. What the fucking hell.
So my options are pretty much limited to dealing with them more and waiting another fucking month to get another piece of shit defective plane, or replacing the 20-30 dollar servo on my own. Thanks Horizon, merry fucking christmas.

Posted 17 years agoWell I've officially been fucked sideways by my school. I've been working as a lab tech for the past 3 or 4 years for the school in order to make money, since I don't have a car or any real means of transportation to get into town and get a job. This year they decided that workers needed to be work-study eligible, and since my dad has a good job and we don't live in a box, I was only allowed to make about 200 dollars for the entire school year. Nobody said anything for a while so I figured maybe the issue had been resolved or they were going to just continue ignoring it or something, but I got an email from my boss today saying that I could no longer work.
So basically I'm just letting people know that I should be able to do some commissions in an attempt to at least have some sort of income. Of course donations are always welcome too >_>
Prices? Hell I dunno if anyone is actually interested I'll work something out. I guess I can color if you really really want me to.

Posted 17 years agoAnyone else listening to N*E*R*D's new album, Seeing Sounds? Fly or Die is one of my absolute favorite albums, one of the only albums I would ever give a 10/10, so I've obviously really been looking forward to Seeing Sounds.
I have to say I'm mostly disappointed, as much as I hate to admit it. It combines the style of their first album, which I never really cared for, with the style on their second, which I loved. While this could have at least been kind of interesting, I honestly feel that the album comes off sounding like a Greatest Hits, even with all new songs.
In addition to that, some of the tracks just seem lazily made, particularly the final track, You Know What. Songs that would have developed into really powerful and incredible tracks on Fly or Die just kind of hang out and drone on, regardless of how good of a start they step off on.
The album does have some really amazing tracks on it, particularly Happy and Love Bomb. Oh god I love Love Bomb a lot. A couple other tracks I can sort of get into if I just let the album flow through them, but as a whole this album really let me down :/
On the other hand, Denjin K, LEDs first album on the Beatnation label, is amazing. Acid Vision Allotropy Artcore remix is outstanding in particular. The Detonator is pretty great as well :3

I'll admit I had my doubts about the convention with this being its first year and all, but I really have to hand it to Nik and Gir and everyone on staff. If I recall correctly they actually set a new attendance record for a first year con.
While I was at first somewhat skeptical of the location and the fact that the con hotel was anything but impressive from the outside, once I got inside it the place was kind of incredible. The lobby reminded me of the Villa stage from Ghost Squad, and the whole place had this really nice atmosphere about it.
So yeah, I'd have to say that FCN was a success. I'm definitely already looking forward to next year :3
