Thank you Dragoneer
Posted a year agoRegarding recent events, I'm not sure what to say. it's a hell of a nasty way to go, from what I heard leading up to Dragoneer's passing, and he has had a huge impact on the furry community at large. I guess all I can think of to say is thank you for keeping this place running, even if it hasn't been the smoothest run, and even if not everyone has agreed with all the decisions he's made in the past. I just learned he even helped donate to SoFurry when they really needed it, so it's not just been FA that he's helped keep alive over the years.
With things going forward, I know there's some uncertainty, given his estate now has to cover his debts, and the FA LLC I believe is considered a part of his estate, but all we can really do is sit back and see what happens there. I've found many, many artists here over the 18+ years I've been on this site, and I hope it sticks around, but you know the saying hope for the best, plan for the worst.
Given that, I have a short page at https://dekafox.art that lists where else I'm at, and I also have my own website at https://bluescales.net for anyone interested. I'm not an artist myself, but if you are interested in continuing to follow my characters and the art I commission of them, you should be able to find me through those, in the worst-case scenario.

Tallying Totals - The Big 100
Posted 5 years agoSo no doubt anyone who watches has notices I've been a bit buys uploading the past few days. I noticed I was getting close to 100 commissions by rough count, and wanted to see just how close. In the process of doing so I found a smattering of things I never uploaded to all my galleries, hence the catch-up. Now though, I should be pretty current.
As to the total: If you exclude mass pictures where I was just a part of them(like headshot compilations or the D.org group pics), count alt versions as part of the same commission, and sticker packs as a single thing instead of counting each sticker individually, I actually broke 100 already! By my reckoning, then 100th image is my recent Spring portrait here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/36154129/ . Of course, if you take out requests and only count things that were paid for, I'm not quite there yet, but I think that image is worthy enough of being 100 that I don't feel a need to track further right now. If you count stickers individually that blows up the number quite a lot, and since each group was ordered at the same time, they "feel" like a single commission(much like alt versions), hence my criteria above.
While I was thinking of trying to get something special for commission 100(and for a bit it looked like it was going to be one of my upcoming ones), this also takes any pressure there off the idea, or worry that my "100th" might get displaced by another one getting finished earlier than expected, or holding off on getting another one so that the "100th" wouldn't get displaced due to taking a while.

And around and around we go
Posted 6 years agoSo I left the Mistral name up for a while, but funnily enough whenever I thought about the character/sona, Swiftwind was the first name that came to mind still. On mentally correcting myself, it still didn't feel right, so I'm thinking I'll retcon the retcon. I still really like the clever reference in that Mistral references past history of mine, keeps the wind theme while adding the reference to hir snep fur pattern, and so on, but now that it's been several months without fully clicking, I suppose that's it. Maybe it's just mental inertia.
I'd still like to keep the name though for sue somehow - perhaps I'll flip one of my original ideas I mentioned in the previous journal and use Mistral as a callsign.
Funnily enough, I haven't used Llewelyn in so long for anything that it feels like "Dekafox" is the proper name for myself/dragonself now. No, I'm not going to try to change anything and get into that morass again, but it's an amusing twist that the intentional namechange didn't take, while one old name has basically phased out another without even intending to. It's still not a "real" name and I still intend to keep using the name Llewelyn for my dragon's depictions, but it makes a good "street name." And since we're headed full bore into IRL cyberpunk, minus most of the cool stuff, a good street name is something handy to have!

Considering the naming of 'kats
Posted 6 years agoSo I had some inspiration strike a little while back, and after some consideration, I'm thinking of changing my chakat's name to Chakat Mistral.
This isn't a spur-of-the-moment thing- I'd been thinking on it since the idea came to mind. Mistral is a name I'd used on and off for longer than I have Swiftwind, thanks to Second Life. The name itself refers to a kind of Northern Wind, so it keeps the wind aspect as a reference to hir piloting, while at the same time actually references hir snow leopard patterning.
Finally, there's also an obscure sort of reference here I find immensely satisfying. In SL I went by Llewelyn Mistral. Llewelyn is the name that got attached to my dragon self. So Llewelyn Mistral = Llewelyn + Mistral = dragon + chakat. The whole symmetry there feels right.
Now I'm not going to rename the Swiftwind in the story I wrote, and hir history will likely remain as-is. Putting hir on the Excalibur's crew, while I liked doing so, sort of wrote myself into a corner regarding hir life in the Chakatverse. The timeline of things also butts up against the whole ponyverse merging, when I had specifically jumped a short ways into the future and sent the ship out into deep space to try to avoid any conflicts with Goldfur's timeline and stories. This offers me a chance to slice that whole aspect off into a separate character.
I'm still undecided on what changes I may make to Mistral's Chakatverse background, though a lot of the high points will likely remain the same, just like hir appearance. I may even keep Swiftwind as a callsign of sorts and just retcon the story bit of things out. I wrote a much longer pondering on the idea on my personal site, but it really wouldn't be that big a decision if it wasn't for the existing history attached to the name already, I feel. Heck, if it wasn't for the existing story, chakats have changed names before and hir changing hir name on its own canonically wouldn't have been totally out there.
I'm also not really sure how this sort of thing goes over in the greater 'kat community, but this is more for myself than anyone else.
And honestly? I never did use the name Swiftwind much as an identity since my dragon awoke, even after I reclaimed my chakat 'sona and started to do things with hir again. (I don't use Llewelyn a lot either to be fair - it's mostly Dekafox these days, despite the lack of fox.) Ultimately it's not like this'll make a huge difference, outside of what it means to me. (And it may help reduce any confusion between my Swiftwind and
chakatswiftwind as well!) This is more just a notice to folks who wander by and may be confused about things.
I'm also a bit torn on what to do about all my existing art - I could update my descriptions, but I can't update descriptions on the artists' galleries and I don't want to be a bother PMing them to ask them to change titles and descriptions on something that may have been posted a year ago or more. On the other hand, the look is the same, it's just the name that's changing, so I may just let it be and move forward. We'll see how things work out I guess.

LFG 4E or Pathfinder with PoW and/or Spheres of Power
Posted 8 years agoFigured I'd put something out here too. With my local gaming group gone and my FLGS closed, I've been keeping an eye out for online groups, but the concepts I want to play don't work well in 5E, which seems to be all a bunch of folks want to play. (I wouldn't mind it either, but again, there's certain characters I -want- to play and the mechanical support isn't there.)
So was curious if there's any D&D 4E groups out there, or Pathfinder groups that allow Path of War content and/or Spheres of Power. I am open to other systems, but those ones I know can supports the concepts I've been playing with.
Of note, I prefer text-based, or a mix of text and voice. I have an old mic form my WoW raiding days, but I don't know if it still works, and text can allow for more descriptive roleplay, provided there's no typing speed issues, issues with unannounced afks, or everyone waiting for someone else to type something.

Journal reset
Posted 9 years agoJust clearing the old journal from my page. Not much to talk about, with life being life, and Twitter and (rarely) my blog as a place to dump.
That said, I am still open to being featured in M/F adult dragon art depending on the artist, if any dragonesses out there are interested. ^..~ All I ask is that you ask first! Also still keeping an eye out for M/F feral dragon YCHs, but haven't seen any in a long while.
Might be another non-adult story coming soon too, if I can get around to finishing it(so no promises!), and perhaps a couple more pics of older characters of mine(like the recent one of Swiftwind) depending on finances/artist availability. What can I say, Hasbro and TakaraTomy have been hitting it out of the park with Transformers the past couple years which eats a lot into my "entertainment" budget!

Commission ponderings
Posted 10 years agoWell I finally finished the story I had been working on a couple weeks ago and did a little cleanup with some help from a reader who pointed out some mistakes I'd missed(easy to do in a 50-page story!). Said story's posted on my other galleries, and I'll post it on this one in the near future - was waiting because of MFF submissions drowning it out.
Now I've been pondering a couple M/F adult art ideas to commission, but the problem is I don't have any specific second characters coming to mind, and I'm not sure that I like the idea of generics. One thing I've seen other artists do a couple times is take a commission, then open up the "partner's" spot as a YCH - but I don't know how that works pricing-wise.
If anyone does happen to know some artists who've done that(and/or how it works), or artists who do M/F feral dragon YCHs, (or would be interested in what I have in mind) please let me know!

Still Alive
Posted 10 years agoOne year older, yay~
Just wanted to replace the last journal since it was over 10 months old. Still on Twitter, haven't gotten much art lately since Hasbro has been hitting out of the park with Combiner Wars and stealing all my monies. Oh, and Star Trek Online snagged a couple hundred also. Not that I had many ideas in the interim anyways, or had many artists open up that I'd like to commission, so it all works out.
Anyways, I'm at the point now where I can bankroll myself in STO and there's not any new releases I want until the 2016 waves start hitting, so there might be some art coming later! Maybe. If certain artists I have in mind open commissions. Or if I see a certain type of YCH that fits my budget...

Do dragons go tweet tweet?
Posted 11 years agoSo I apparently have a Twitter now... at least until I get tired of the new toy? Still trying to figure out where it fits in my online life/presence given I already have a blog. Anyways, givin it the ol. college try, and we'll see how random it gets. Either way, regular account is below, and if you want my AD account and can't find it, just ask!
On a side note I've apparently had a FA account for over 8 years now. o..o My SL account is coming up on 9 years next month too. It'd be even longer for IRC if I hadn't dropped it. And if there was a kid born the same time I first discovered furry, he'd be starting college!
Is this the furry version of the xkcd strip about making people feel old using movies? It's a good thing dragons age gracefully!

Calling all dragons!
Posted 11 years agoReposting this from my site to try and get the word out about the Isle of Wyrms. I took a break from SL for a while and when I came back I found it had changed quite a bit from 2 years ago, part of which was the community seemed to have gotten a lot smaller. We've got a lot of good people there, thanks to the tinies community, but not a lot of dragons running around anymore, which is what we want to change.
This is a call-out to all dragons, whether 'kin or not, who may be flitting around Second Life. Let's work together and wake the dream once more. There's good folks, lots of cookies, and plenty of conversation, and maybe a little parcheesi if that's your thing! There's plenty of times right now where there's not that many folks around still, but if no one goes, that'll never change.
The main hangout place currently is the games area in the middle of Limbo. Just teleport to the middle of the sim and bam, you're there. Parcheesi seems to be the game of choice, but there's some other SL games there too, such as Greedy Greedy and En Guarde. There's also 7Seas fishing available, vendors and all down on the docks.
For those who aren't interested in the games(or can't really fit in the game area) there's plenty of room in the Cathedral to hang out and chat. The old cathedral that used to be in Limbo was smaller, and I still remember there always being a dragon or three there whenever I swung by back in those days.
Even if you don't want to make IoW a regular hangout, there's still plenty of events to come kick back with other dragons and the tinies. For example, there's biweekly Drum Circles, where folks can gather, listen to music, dance(as much as you can in SL) and chat, and they're set in two different times to accommodate other time zones as well. The next upcoming ones are Wednesday 3/5 at noon-2PM PST and Friday 3/7 at 5-7PM PST.
For those who are into games and/or SL fishing, there's a weekly GamesDay event on Sundays starting at 1PM PST, where folks just gather to mess with the games, as well as usually 3 rounds of an unbaited fishing contest that you can win L from, if you make the top 5.
The biggest event coming up is of course the Spring Equinox celebration. There may no longer be a hatching lottery, but there's still be a celebration, and that starts 3/22 at noon PST. I'm not staff there, just a dragon who's been around a long time, so I don't know what they've got planned for this one, but what better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons than with other dragons?
So if you got time, feel free to fly/crawl/swim/walk/teleport/stargate on over, and let's bring back the Wyrms to the Isle of Wyrms! Whether scaled, furred, or feathered, there's plenty of room for all.

Getting up to date
Posted 11 years agoSorry for any unintentional flooding of anyone's inbox. I'm just getting my FA, Weasyl, and SoFurry galleries all on the same page, so to speak. Just about done - there's a story series and an extended story left to post here(and on Weasyl). Once this is done, it'll slow way back down again until my muse chews my tail.
*edit* And everything's up!

Second thoughts on tagging
Posted 11 years agoI found (or re-found) that gThumb supports tagging(and it tags in the file metadata), and it was also opening some files the XFCE image viewer doesn't. So I got through tagging and sorting some of the smaller portions of my image collection, and noticed I had a few duplicates as I started to get into the Toku section. And when I searched for duplicates, was promptly reminded just how many files I had left to tag. x..x
I'm really having second thoughts now on the whole tagging business, but then if I stick to the plan I had been planning(artist folders where possible, tag on the other attributes) it's going to limit the ease of finding previously saved stuff by theme. I was already planning to skip tagging my local copies of my art CDs... should I say screw it, sort now, and tag later? Stick to my plan of sorting as I tag?
Not really expecting much feedback(as there was none on the previous journal) but any thoughts form anyone who's dealt with a large image collection would be appreciated.

Best way to organize your collection?
Posted 12 years agoNot sure if anyone will read/respond to this at all, but I'm cleaning up and sorting my various hoards of data. Movies/TV is fairly obvious, and Music I've got a working scheme, but I've never really hit on a good way to sort my image collection. Of course, if I had tag support built into my filesystem, I wouldn't have an issue, but since I'm still sticking to ext4, I need to come up with some folder scheme that at least works without becoming too unwieldly.
The odd part is I can't find any discussion on this for the life of me. Maybe it's just from not finding the magic words to search for, but I tried FA's forums too and even that came up nada. For reference, I apparently have almost 19k images, adding up to 5.2GB. Given the limitations I'm facing(lack of tag support), do I do it by content? By artist? And of course the fun that comes with things in different categories...
For example take http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11540868/ - Should it go under Fantasy/Nambroth? Furry/Nambroth? Furry/Dragon? Furry/Dragon/Nambroth? Furry/Dragon/Feral? How to best store it to make it easier to find on a whim? Add the adult art on top of that which adds even more categories and permutations... having a folder for all wolf/leopard for example would be overkill.
If there's a good, free, Linux-based image program that has decent tag support, that might help reduce the load somewhat, but I still need to organize the bare files to be able to find something without it. I wouldn't turn down any suggestions in that regard either, however.

Regarding WoW dragons
Posted 13 years agoSo I just realized this today while idling staring at my legendary-transformed dragon butt waiting for a raid...
All the female dragons that got unique models have huge horns. Think Alexstrasza, Ysera, and Tarecgosa. The Handmaiden drakes too are explicitly female, hence the "maiden" part, and they have Alezstrasza-style horns And we all know that Blizzard like to "enhance" the size of female attributes on all their female characters... larger than life everything is part of their style after all.
Does that mean that dragon horns are the WoW dragon equivalent of cleavage?
*edit*
And now I just have the most hilarious mental image:
An adult black dragon in gold jewelry singing "I like big horns" with a trio of black dragonflight drakes off to the side as backup singers.

*edit*
And now I just have the most hilarious mental image:
An adult black dragon in gold jewelry singing "I like big horns" with a trio of black dragonflight drakes off to the side as backup singers.
Thou art the innocent blade
Posted 14 years agoIf the new header/footer isn't a clue, I finished playing through all the routes of the english-translated VN, Deus Machina Demonbane recently. Basically take Arkham City of Cthulhu fame, and giant robots, and stir vigorously. The only version available in english currently is the "adult" version, though there is a PS2 version and a PC "sequel" that lack the sex. They make a point of there being actual reason for the H-scenes(and Japanese + Cthulhu of course has to involve tentacles) but it was good enough it didn't NEED them. (I ended up fast-forwarding through them mostly anyways.) I also highly recommend completely AVOIDING the anime unless you've gone through at least Al Azif's story route in the VN, as the anime cuts out at least a third of the story, if not over half of it. The only reason to watch it really is to see Atlantis Strike and a few other attacks in action, and those are in Kishin Hishou(the semi-sequel) anyways, since in that one you actually get to control Demonbane during the battles.
But now I want Demonbane in SRW, dangit!

Just about ready for the shattering
Posted 15 years agoLast night was a very good night as far as WoW was concerned. Since we had been having horrible attendance on Sundays and Mondays, we continued last week's save to go after Arthas. Hour and a half and maybe 5 or 6 attempts later, my kitty was a Kingslayer! I checked the damage charts later, and me and a warlock had done over half the damage over the course of the fight, though we had lost a rogue to a valk early on. After that, way down with half the average DPS was a (bear) tank, our hunter, the other (bear) tank, and then the other rogue that didn't die early. Having played a hunter in that fight, I've got no problem with his DPS, since hunters have a lot of non-DPS jobs there, and bears are OP right now, but I'm not sure why that other rogue was so low, since his only non-DPS job was stun Valks, and he had decent gear. It's been long enough since the patch I would have thought he'd have adjusted too. *shrugs*
After that we regrouped, replaced since a person we pugged wasn't interested, cleared to Halion, and almost one-shot him. Got him to ~2 mil before we lost too many people inside the portal and wiped, and didn't have time for another attempt, so we're doing that Sunday.
And after that, we 5-manned BWL and got the last of the Elementium for the Scepter questline, and I wrapped that up as well. Also discovered my hunter had never turned in the final quest, so did that on her as well, so they both should get the FoS after the shattering.
With those done, my Dungeon 2 set complete, and Bloodsail Admiral title gotten, the only pre-Cata project left is getting exalted with the Steamwheedle cartel, since they're taking out most of the repeatable quests and mobs used to get there. I'm mostly there too, with 2 at exalted, and the last two are ~30 Free Knot runs away from exalted, which should take ~6 hours or so to do, and it's still a couple weeks to the shattering. Oh, and did I mention I also snagged the ZG tiger less than a week after the ZG Raptor while my kitty was grinding ZG rep?

Enter the Kingslayer
Posted 15 years agoSlightly less than a month after OC died, I have finally downed Arthas. Even better, I did it as Beastmaster spec. I was prepared to go Marks for buffs, but since we were lacking the 3% buff, I stayed as that. Also rather than Sieg, my usual companion Devilsaur, I got to bring out Sandstorm, my LSD wasp of doom, since we were lacking druids for Faerie Fire. Yah, my DPS ended up at the bottom, but not by a lot, and I was more worried about doing my job(s) properly than DPSing. (And besides, bringing the 3% buff I can technically claim to add in 3% of everyone else's DPS to mine ;D)
Now, I just need to down Algalon and Halion and I'll be ready for Cata.
As far as other characters, I haven't really bothered doing anything on them apart from my kitty, who got Cryptmaker only to find out it was a DPS loss despite hitting the ArP hardcap. Said kitty has also been helping my dragoness level her druid, and we've gotten her to 73 so far. Should definitely have her at 80 by the end of the month, perhaps sooner.

WoW stuff
Posted 15 years agoMostly writing this to get the previous entry off my page.
Things in WoW have changed a bit for me lately. OC had finally gotten to Lich King, and we'd been working on him... but of the people we needed to down him, maybe half stopped showing up. We had enough warm bodies to fill the raid, but not enough skilled raiders. This was pretty much shoved in our faces when we pugged in a tank from another guild who was the husband of someone we'd just picked up, and we were consistently getting a bit of a ways into phase 2... then the next week without him and that new guildie(which ended up being a mess I don't want to get into) we didn't even make it to the first transition consistantly.
So when our second best healer couldn't make raids anymore, and 3 of our remaining core left, I left with them. The new guild I'm in is at least as good as OC was, as they got as far as we did, and they have a kingslayer so they've been working on hard modes. On top of that, with the people in the guild, it has something OC had been missing and I didn't even realize it until I was trying to decide which of 2 guild to go for: fun.
With the push to get to and down LK, and the mix of players, while there was some joking around on vent, we didn't really have enough slack to screw around and still down the bosses. This guild always makes me laugh, and is fun to joke around with. They can get serious if need be, but there's more room for levity. I don't have a guaranteed raid spot anymore but eh, I stopped actively chasing gear a while back when it became obvious Cata has a huuuuge gear reset. (And when I had 3 toons at 6k GS.)
Also my girlfriend/mate is playing now, so I've got an alt I'm leveling up alongside her, until she gets in range of my 80s. Her character's a tank and is gonna dual-spec into heals, so we've been abusing the LFD tool for leveling rather than questing. And like I told her before, I'm going to damn well make sure she gets into ICC 10-mans at least, even if I have to put them together myself.

Oh, WTH FA...
Posted 15 years agoSo apparently SL pics are now limited to ONLY anthro creations, while pics of other renderers can display everything, like, say, dragons. So drawings of four-footers, renders from say, Poser or Blender, photos of sculptures of four-footers, and so on can all be displayed, but make one in SL and suddenly it's all "NO FA UPLOAD FOR YOUUUUUUUU!" I can understand that they're afraid if they leave ANY loophole it'll be abused, but come on, does the above sound reasonable, provided all the other restrictions are met? Not to mention other things such as maybe a really awesome original spaceship design. Done in Blender? Fair game. Done in SL? Bzzt, sorry! Poser used to be singled out like this but isn't any longer; why should SL be?
The only saving grace is the scraps/grandfathering clause, and I THINK I moved everything I needed to move to there.

And in strange aeons even death may die
Posted 16 years agoFigured it was about time I write something here, after having the same thing up for 9 months.
Last night we finally took down Yogg-Saron, the "god of death" and the second Old God to be implemented as a WoW boss. In WoW, there are 5 of these according to current lore, borrowing heavily from Lovecraft.
C'thun: manifested as a giant eyeball and stomach with a bunch of eyeballs. Was weakned, and escaped in the desert of Silithus form the Titans. Killed back in Classic.
Yogg-Saron: The "beast of a thousand maws" imprisoned in Northrend, after the Titans discovered that them killing all the Old Gods themselves would be a Bad Thing™. Killed during the WorLK events.
Unknown Old God: Seemingly killed by Titans waaaaay back int eh past. Can be sen in Darkshore with a Titan's halberd sticking out of the corpse.
And there's 2 more we have yet to encounter mention of, other than they exist.
All that aside though, now we're all caught up on downing all Normal Mode content, so once 3.3 drops, we can go pound Icecrown Citadel.

Species ruminations
Posted 16 years agoSort of a follow-up to http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/321474/
Well a year later, and still basically the same. I've barely been on SL though since about May last year probably(I blame WoW). It still "wears" comfortably, and in fact I updated the anthro version not that long ago to get closer to what looked and moved right. It's kinda hard to dance if your neck suddenly goes flying at right angles to the rest of your body. :P I also used the last image I had gotten as partial basis too, in a sort of feedback loop getting closer to what I wanted. The feral form I still haven't had any reason to change, though for a while at Christmas I did wear a scarf and flight goggles, because the idea of an aviator dragon amused me. X3
One of the times I was on, someone commented I didn't seem very foxlike(I was in anthro form at the time) until I pointed out the shapes. The one who asked was apparently a wolf/dragon hybrid, which brings up something I've noticed.
Foxes, dragons, wolves are all pretty popular choices for one reason or another. (My reasons for my choices are in my linked jounral above.) Crossbreeds between the two seem mildly common among the hybrids as well. 95% of them though that I see tend to be the following(at least the draconic ones):
Take fox/wolf/whatever. Glue on horns and wings, maybe patches of scales here and there. Instant x/dragon.
Because of this I initially described myself as a fox-like dragon when I first put it all together. While I don't really do that anymore, the way I've described it is where a lot of people go for chunky blend, I hit "frappe" on the blender. One thing I've always strove towards is something that's really a 50%/50% blending elements of both, without looking like someone played with species traits like legos. I'd like to think I've nailed that finally(or gotten pretty damn close) with the commission I got a while back(apart from the eartufts being off). I've considered trying to come up with a species name(like kayeers or chakats) but I think it's easier if I just say foxdragon and let people make of it what they will.
The other thing I've been worried about a couple times is being confused with an Eastern dragon. They're already fairly canine to begin with, but where they have fur, I have scales. Having western-dragon-style horns rather than "antler-type" horns helps with the distinction too, probably.
Oh, and if anyone wants to break their brain, think on this: how does someone with the normal large dragon wings on anthro hybrids(including me XP) wear jackets or shirts? (Without shapeshifting on the part of the wearer or clothing)

Paw in mouth - Venting below(LOLdrama)
Posted 17 years agoJust need to get this out of my system, WoW-related, so if you don't want to read venting or dislike WoW, don't bother reading further.
I was in Borean Tundra, one of the new areas earlier today, and someone mentioned the quest-helper addon. I commented that reading the quest text was better, and someone made another comment I can't remember, but my response was that I was doing quests just fine without it. He said I must use Thottbot instead and I said now. Then he said "You must be a god" and since I read it as sarcasm(due to the way the convo had been going) I simply responded "Nah, I'm just not lazy."
Now, this set off a minor bitchfest, in part directed at me. There was at least one guy who did make good points and stayed calm, but people were calling me stupid and whatnot. I had to go run some errands, so when they stopped responding for a few minutes I went and logged, and found myself reflecting on what had been said, while I was out.
'Course it'd be pointless now to go back in and re-address it, so I'm going to say what I wanted to say there, here.
Yes, lazy probably wasn't the best choice of words. To me, though, what's the point of doing quests if you're going to not even bother thinking and just follow the purple dots(or whatever it gives you)? If questing is tedious(as one person said) then why bother doing them? You can just instance-grind to 80 if levels are all you care about, and it'd probably be faster than running all around the continent doing stuff. If you're wanting to rep grind, I'll concede you may have to do some, but you can just do the daily quests, and frankly, all the quest text on the Northrend quests has been informative enough I haven't had to refer to Wowhead or any site(though I've been tempted a time or three). All it takes is a little reading and brainpower.
Wowhead and the addons do have their place and use, however. Some of the old world quests get rather arcane in how they expect you to do it, and if you get stuck, by all means look it up. I've also got no problem with using it to find obscure quests, when doing achievements and such. That's the main point I wish I had remembered to add, but the less.. polite... response were jerking my chain.
Someone mentioned using them on characters 2-10, after doing it on your first, and there I don't have an issue, as long as you bothered to do it on your first character, It's not needed as much though in those cases, as you may remember the quest anyways.
As for rep grinding by those people who consider questing "tedious": Try getting your Brood of Nozdormu rep up without raiding. Now THAT'S tedious. Northrend rep has been like like Christmas. I've only done Howling Fjord and about a third of Borean Tundra, and I'm already Revered with one faction and Honored with a couple others. If you just want the rep to gear up, using the questhelper and similar addons to mindlessly help you get it is IMO no different from people afking in battlegrounds to get PvP epics pre-Wrath. You're putting in no real effort and making it more mind-numbing than it has to be.
To sum it up, what I think I'm trying to say is addons and sites like Wowhead have their place, but don't let them play the game for you. I just wish I'd been able to get that across better in the heat of the moment, rather than hours later.
This has been your (daily/weekly/monthly/annual) dose of LOLWoWdrama.

Kanokon, and some questions to ponder
Posted 17 years agoFirst off, a new anime series just started called Kanokon, for those who might be interested. It's an over-the-top-fanservice-y-hilarious anime about a 1st year high school student and a kitsune who wants him, who is also a 2nd year student at the same school. I was rofl through most of it, but if excess pervertedness bugs you, then you may want to stay clear. 1st ep is out fansubbed by Ayako, and there's supposed to be around 12 eps total. The novel series it's based on is supposed to come stateside, but there's no definite street date for them yet.
Second, I was listening to the Crusade opening last night(too bad they never continued the series :/) and so, if anyone wants to take it up, a Crusade-based meme:
1. Who are you?
I am myself, and no other. A fan of Transformers, mecha and Super Robot anime. A listener of rock music, and anison. An engineer, a fan of Sci-Fi and fantasy, a reader, and a gamer. And perhaps, a blue and silver colored foxdragon.
2. What do you want?
A good life. Companionship, friends, something that's not too stressful but can still keep me from being bored. The ability to continue growing my plastic "hoard." A mate, when I find the right lady. And for the world not to continue going to hell in a handbasket.
3. Where are you going?
I really don't know at the moment. Wherever life may take me, I suppose. I'd say I'd follow the wind, but I have obligations that'd keep me from hitting the road and seeing where it leads, so it'll just have to be the metaphorical wind I'll ride.
4. Who do you serve?
In one respect, whomever signs my paychecks. In general: family, friends, people who enjoy my work on things such as the PRC code, and of course myself as well. Anyone I give my word to on something, I try and keep it.
5. Who do you trust?
Family, friends, people who've shown they're good people and I've gotten to know. It also depends on what it is I'm trusting them with, of course.
I'm not gonna tag anyone or anything, I'm more just throwing it out there if anyone else wants to continue it with their own answers. Even if you don't answer them, just thinking about the questions can sometimes bring surprising results, and may help you come to know yourself better.
