The worlds on fire, but how are you?
Posted 9 months agoIt seems like the world has gone from messed up to fully insane, and in the last few years, hasn't shown any signs of slowing down.
Places around the world are burning, chaos reigns supreme, and leaders are to busy puffing up their chests to save us.
I can't do much to help, but I can at least offer this: My DMs on here are open, my Discord is visible, and I'm here as much as I can be. Come talk to me about trivial things, about board games, about the weather, about how your day was... in this ocean of depressing politics, world events going sideways, and societies crumbling, let's just take a few minutes to remind ourselves about the good things in our lives.
I know it isn't much, but it's what I can do. I can try to be a little distraction that hopefully brightens your day for a few minutes...
And remember, as bad as things are, this too shall pass, and you've survived everything that has come before now. You can survive this and find better times ahead.

Game review - Mass Effect Andromeda
Posted 6 years agoArmor up, grab your rifles, prep your biotics, and lets jump-jet our way in to Mass Effect: Andromeda!
~~ Warning ~~ Spoilers ahead ~~ Warning ~~
Gameplay - Mass Effect has always been a 3rd person shooter with RPG elements, but now you're more free to move around than every before. Crafting has snuck its way into the game, requiring you to get plenty of materials (like in most games these days) in order to build the better equipment, though depending on what difficulty you're on, that might not even be required.
Exploration is better than ever with new movement options and the best vehicle in the series (It lacks weapons, but its so nice to drive around). Missions are also taken care of in typically wide-open maps that allow plenty of exploration, areas to set up for various strategies, and plenty of optional side-quests to complete.
There is still some buggy moments, a few graphical errors here and there, but I only noticed a few while doing multiple playthroughs.
Story - Sadly, here's where the game suffers from its poor handling. The main story is good with plenty of options to change things in various ways, though they feel like they lack impact due to all the DLC getting scrapped which would have contained more of the story and development aspects. The first base you set up has 2 options, and they do change the story a little, but according to when the game flopped, one of the DLCs was to involve expanding those settlement aspects... the game also ends on a cliffhanger story-wise which, again, was to be handled in the DLC.
That being said, I enjoyed the story the entire way through, even through the cliché 'bad guy has ridiculous plan that somehow works' points
Sound - The voice acting is good through most of the game (though some NPCs are obviously lack-luster) and the characters lean into their voices well. The music choices are also well placed as they deepen in the darker moments to build atmosphere and the way they build as you explore the first open world will stick with you for the rest of your playthrough.
Replay - As with the other games in this series, you'll want to try different aspects of different missions, try new romance options, maybe change how you interact with characters to see what plays out, as well as enjoying the boost your old gear gives in the early game.
Final - 8/10 - The game honestly needs a revival or sequel to continue its story. The launch was absolutely garbage, we all remember that, but the game got so much work done afterwards and was polished to at least ME2 levels, so it really feels like a good entry now. The story was good, the characters vibrant, the worlds beautiful, and it just feels like, if they'd released it in the state its in now, we'd have all loved this game... but sadly, we may never know how it was meant to end.
Thanks as always for listening, hopefully you found something here of interest, and as always my friends, until next time, happy gaming!

Pokémon Sun and Moon - Disappointment
Posted 9 years agoI would like to start off by saying I've played pokémon from the start. I had Blue, upgraded to Yellow, got Gold, Ruby, Diamond, Black, and tons of side games. I had a massive collection of cards when that was in and then, I heard about Sun and Moon
New pokémon, new area, new adventure... but then I keep looking at whats coming and the size of the map. It looks so small, and the focus seems to be on all these gimics instead of what we all enjoyed: Being the best trainer around, collecting your favorite team, and exploring a huge world filled with pokémon.
Instead of what we know, love, and crave more of, we get... Z-moves, these strange U-Beasts, and a mess of strange features that they won't even explain yet but break from the original game harshly.
I'd love if they instead did something like Pokémon World or something, where you could explore EVERY region, making a game so impressive that you could potentially catch EVERY pokémon legit and strive to be the master of every gym, as well as beating every Elite 4
I want a game that still feels like Pokémon... and sun and moon? They just... don't feel the same

Posted 10 years agoGrab your pickaxe, slap together some torches, and lets start delving down into the blocky world of Terraria!
~~ WARNING ~~ Spoilers ahead ~~ WARNING ~~
Gameplay - Terraria is a platforming mining action-adventure game (try saying that fast 3 times) in which you make a character and appear in a world of blocks. Its now up to you to decide how you play the game, though mining and fighting are obvious key points. There are special events to find and fight through, bosses to summon and defeat, and NPC's to recruit. You'll soon find yourself digging through layer upon layer of the ground in an effort to find more plentiful deposits of better resources. You'll also find yourself searching the surface for different boimes, each containing their own secrets, as well as scanning the skies eventually, looking for rare flying islands with higher-tiered items on board.
Story - Story plays no real role in Terraria as you can explore and alter the entire world as you go. The nearest there is to a story is the Dungeon, which most players find a requirement to defeat higher-level bosses, followed by the eventual battle against the Wall of Flesh (Warning, this activates HARD MODE in your world, which cannot be reversed) and then defeating hard-mode bosses as you become aware of them. There is now a slight story-ending with the latest event and boss, which also ties into one of the earliest bosses in the game.
Sound - Different music in each biome and plenty of sound effects for various enemies, items, and abilities will keep you entertained while you have the sound on
Replay - You don't experience anything amazingly new by making more characters or maps, but you can make specific builds this way. There are 4 main build types: Melee, Ranged, Magic, Summon. You can technically make it all with one person, but your inventory will be mostly full just keeping all the items around for the different classes
Final - 9/10 - Even with the lack of story, the game is incredibly addictive. I have multiple characters with max stats, VERY high tier equipment (max level on my melee), and several worlds that have been mined out completely. I've also built several strange things, including a massive pyramid and several pixelated characters like Bowser, Space Invaders, Sonic, and more.
That's it for now my fellow Terrarians, I look forward to seeing your pixel creations in game and hearing about your exploits while we wait for the next Terraria game. Until next time, stay gaming!

Game Review - Supreme Commander
Posted 10 years agoGreetings Commanders, welcome aboard. Today we will be going deep into your training in SUPREME COMMANDER! (and Expansion)
~~ WARNING ~~ Spoilers ahead ~~ WARNING ~~
Gameplay - This game is a hardcore strategy game requiring a lot of time to get truly skilled at. Play as one of 4 unique factions, each with their own specialties, abilities, and perks. Control hundreds of units, build a base that can withstand the harshest assault, and search the rolling maps to find your opponents. Battle by land, air, and sea as you aim to destroy your opponents completely and utterly. This game will have any stategy lover finding their groove and charging for victory
Story - In Supreme Commander, you experience the thrills and losses as you battle your way through 3 different stories (one for each faction) as you struggle to find out what's going on. Taking place directly after the end of the main game, the expansion takes place with a new story that continues what you've come to know and love. New threats, new units, and new dangerous powers await the brave commanders that fight their way through the new 4th race added to the game and their arsenal of death
Sound - The sounds of this game are actually very good. Zoom in and you can hear every zap from lazer guns, the bang of cannons, and the blasting explosions from destroyed targets. Zoom out and you only hear the faint background sounds against it all. Listen in to the voices during campaign too as each voice actor brings their character to life in their communication clips
Replay - Try missions over again to get better scores and complete side objectives on each map, and of course, try your hand at harder and harder computer players in Skirmish as you develop new tactics and plans to take control of the map
Final - 8/10 - The game is amazing and has dynamic battles that take place over dozens of maps, but the thing that really hits it down to 8 is that its meant to be the successor to the game Total Annihilation, but it removed itself to far from its predecessor by ignoring the old factions and many of the things that they had to offer. Great game, but it needed to bring its legacy forward
Thanks again for tuning in Commanders, and I hope to see you on the battlefields of distant worlds. And as always, feel free to shoot me a message below if I was to hard or easy on it, or aspects you liked/disliked of the game too. Until next time, happy gaming!

Classic Game Review - Super Mario Bros 3
Posted 10 years agoHello there viewers! I'm going to try something new... and by that I mean old! I'm busting out my NES and lets get going into MARIO BROS 3!!!!!!
~~WARNING~~ Spoilers ahead ~~WARNING~~
If any of these are spoilers for you, then here's another spoiler! You're too young for the D!
Lets also try out a different format for this...
So I booted up my NES and Mario Bros 3 for the first time in ages, and... wow, its actually way easier now. After all the time of new games being so hard and requiring such complicated button combos or mashing of buttons, this game is a cakewalk! ... For the first 20 minutes. Mario Bros 3 is the true successor to Mario Bros 1, as MB2 was actually a different game that got re-hashed.
This Mario game introduced new features that we've all come to know and love: The World Map, choosing which Level to play out of various options, and of course, the Inventory system. MB1 was "run and jump till you win or die" but MB3 is so much more! Go forward, backward, way up high and underground, all in ONE LEVEL! New power-ups like the raccoon tail, the frog suit, the flute, and so much more.
This game is a true test of skills for its style of game. Unforgiving levels and bosses with difficult end levels make even world 1 a challenge. This game also introduces the Koopa family, like Ludwig for example. Now this game is old-school to the absolute nintendo-classic limit, but give it a try and you might just be amazed.
As for the mechanics of this game, you might be surprised in that alone. Go behind the levels to avoid enemies and find secrets, use flutes to skip worlds, use clouds to skip levels, the world map and levels have secrets all over! New to Mario? Try this game first! Love Mario? Play this game to get into the classic style

Game Review - Mario Kart 8
Posted 10 years agoGood day racers, start your engines, and lets jump into the wonderful world of Go-Kart racing with Mario Kart 8!
~~WARNING~~ Spoilers ahead ~~WARNING~~
Not sure I actually need that this time... lol
Gameplay - I love me some Mario Kart! I have ever since the old SNES days! This is truly a peek of kart racing in so many ways. New and old courses test your control at high speed, new obstacles and path options, secret tunnels and new weapons. You have tons of characters to choose from, a huge selection of carts, wheels, and glider parts, and so many courses it's scary. They sadly removed the battle modes we've come to love in earlier games (I miss Balloon Battle Arenas) but has a sleek battle mode going both ways on a track, at the same time, going for the kills. The biggest problem I have with the gameplay is that drifting is required to win... not just useful like in the older games, no, you NEED to drift EVERY corner to its MAX potential or you will lose the race.
Story - Its Mario Kart... its racing, that's it XD
Replay - Again, its Mario Kart. If you can stop playing it, you have my respect XD
Sound - Wow, this game actually has some impressive sounds to it! As you drive you're hit with all sorts of stage music, background sounds, item pick-ups and usage... the characters even talk (most of them) during the races! I was happily impressed by the dramatic upgrade in audio compared to some earlier games
Final score - 8/10 - As far as racing goes, this is a thrill and a half with laughter and fun thrown in. You'll enjoy some nice music, see memorable courses, and have fun trying all the different character and vehicle options. If you love Mario Kart, you're going to love this game

Game Review - Fallout 3 (proper review)
Posted 11 years agoHello there watchers and waiters. I'm your host, Bolt Templar, and lets waste no time fixing up this game review
~~ WARNING ~~ Spoilers ahead ~~ WARNING ~~
Gameplay - Fallout 3 is a shooter at heart, but has some melee weapons as well. You have multiple weapons to choose from, such as single shot pistols, fully automatic assault rifles, missle launchers, a baseball bat for when you want to hit hard and close. Your limit is weight limitations. The game also features the 'VATS' system which you can use up to pause action in game and target specific parts of your enemy, such as their head for more damage or their gun to shoot it out of their hands. Enemies are varied to a good degree as well, but they do have their limits too. All in all, you will see them all doing the main story alone.
Story - speak of the devil. This game takes you from birth to teen in the tutorial and then casts you from the vault you know into the world. After that its an open world game, but the story will take you bouncing around. The main quest can be broken into chunks really: Find dad, Help dad, Finish dads work. You'll be faced with many choices affecting your morality and sometimes even story altering to a small degree. Its pretty one directional but you can actually skip parts if you know what you're doing
Sound - Good voices just like any Bethesda game, nice sound effects, music kinda bleh... good music but poor execution for playing it. Then again, when sneaking around, music is a dead give away
Replay - Try different morality choices, a different gender, new masteries. You'd be surprised at what changes when you try the other gender...
Final - 9/10 overall considering it all, but I still recommend it over New Vegas, just saying
Thanks for tuning in, and if you want to weigh in, comment down below. Was I too generous? A little harsh on the sound? You tell me fans. Until next time, I'm the Dark Wanderer Bolt Templar, signing out

Game Guide - Fallout 3
Posted 11 years agoI would like to apologize for this guide marked as review XD turns out reviews are hard after a few shots... I'll not be rewriting this but I will make a proper review now
Hello again fellow gamers, welcome back to Game Review with your host with the toast, Bolt Templar! Today we'll be looking at the now classic game Fallout 3... and before you ask, I will NOT be doing New Vegas because, honestly, I'll smash it
~~WARNING~~ Spoilers ahead ~~WARNING~~
So lets head to the start... BIRTH!
No joke here, this game starts up with you being born... wow... ok then. So you're born and pick your gender, race, appearance, the usual suspects. Then mom dies... seriously... next thing you know you're a toddler, figuring out your controls, putting in your stats... then another fastforward to kid and getting your inventory and shooting practice, then teen and picking your skills, and then FINALLY YOU GET INTO THE GAME! Oh my god that took so long!
All the tutorial aside though, the game is very fun and addictive. You fight your way out of the Vault you've known your entire life to chase your dad into the atomic wastelands of the surface and what remains of the world after World War 3 finished.
Choices are everywhere... you decide where you go and when, and with the expansions, you have entire new areas to explore (GET THE ALIEN SHIP! DO IT! ALIEN GUNS ARE YOUR FRIENDS!) You'll find outposts of raiders, roaming traders, camps of friendly people, and wandering monsters of death (Deathclaw is NOT your friend, run away... run faster)
The story is a little forced, but you'll still face choices in it that will change how people greet you and can alter what followers you get. The entire first section of the story is chasing down your father, hunting for clues of where he went after he left. Then after you cover half of the wasteland, you find him and spend the next chunk of story helping him... then he dies and you finish the story trying to both avenge him and trying to finish the work he dedicated his life too.
Now for the fun bits... exploring! The most fun I have is wandering the wastes, finding new places to plunder and pillage, blowing apart raiders and monsters, and of course, finding the bobbleheads! That's right, bobbleheads. You can find these lovely little things all over the place, but be warned, some can be missed! Inside the Vault (101, your vault), Megaton, and Raven Rock are 3 places you'll visit for the story, and all 3 have a bobblehead, and all 3 you can miss permanently! DO NOT MISS THESE! Every time you find a bobblehead, you get +10 to that skill! You need these bobbleheads
Now all in all the game is a shooter at heart but there are melee weapons too. Choose your weapons, stock up on ammo, plunder everything you can for cash, and always, ALWAYS be careful where you step. Moira in Megaton is a must visit. Fawkes in the vault with the GECK in it is a must save. The bomb in Megaton is a must disarm (It gets you a free house!) These are all good actions... and also massive helps in game.
What can I say about this game in the end? For its time, it was surely a 10/10, and even now is an easy 8/10 (losing only due to graphic quality compared to current games and the limitations it has) but no matter what, this classic is worth dusting off at the game store and playing hard.
Also, side note here... I know I've lost my format lately, and I apologize. I'll be trying to get back into that for later reviews, so please bare with me on this ranting-like review ^_^;

Game Review - Super Smash Bros Wii U
Posted 11 years agoHello fellow gamers, welcome to another edition of Game Review with me as your host. As always, I'm Bolt Templar, and today, lets get our fight on with Smash Brothers!
~~WARNING~~ Spoilers ahead ~~WARNING~~
Alrighty, lets look at... oh god why?
I've loved this game series since the days of Smash 64, and since then, I've dominated with Link. I hit hard, move non-stop, and always, ALWAYS go for the kill. The roster back then was tiny, but now? So many characters you almost don't want to look at the selection... with a roster so large it borders being stupid-large, this game has fighters for EVERYBODY! Not only that, but now 8 colors (sometimes entire skin-changes) for every fighter! Why do we need 8? Oh yes, that's right, for the brand new mode!
EIGHT PLAYER BRAWL! Who thought this was a good idea? ... they were right, but still. This mode seriously is crazy. In a fast paced match of 4 different fighters, you can still get lost, but now? Hell, lets add 4 more fighters, and also, allow all 8 to choose the same person! If you all pick Palutena, good luck...
All this being said, the items and options and even levels to choose from in this is staggeringly beautiful. Levels range from tiny to HUGE! Moving sections can add all sorts of craziness, and of course, some classics made it back for another round through the mayhem. Truly, a sight to behold...
So many beautiful things in this game... but... lets look at the dark side now
STORY MODE IS GONE! I LOVED story mode. The struggle of using new fighters at random, the bosses, the levels, the mazes, oh god it was SO FUN! What was it replaced by? ... honestly, I'm calling it Crap-Party. You pick a Mii, run around on a mario-party-esque board collecting power-ups and fighters, only to jump up and down on all counts, gain and lose fighters non-stop, and at the end, have a tiny fight that doesn't even matter since the first to lose can still come out of the mode in 1st... it feels like a wasted mode to be honest.
Classic Mode. There is nothing classic about this mode except the final fight against Master Hand (And Crazy Hand if you do it at a high level) and even then, they have new stuff to them, which is fine, but then you find out there is a secret boss at lvl 9 difficulty (if you can afford it, good luck and may they have mercy upon you) and that final boss is like 6-7 parts long!
All in all, I like the game, but I find myself playing Brawl more than it, just for the story mode... they may have changed to much in this adaptation.
Tell me your thoughts (or vents) down below!
Happy gaming!!!

Game Review - Hyrule Warriors
Posted 11 years agoHello fellow gamers, welcome to another edition of Game Review with me as your host. As always, I'm Bolt Templar, and today, we'll be hitting up a recent game... Hyrule Warriors!
~~WARNING~~ Spoilers ahead ~~WARNING~~
Now then, where to start today!
Gameplay - Anybody familiar with Dynasty Warrior games will feel right at home in this game. You have simple combos at heart but when you use them can change a battle. Multiple characters to choose from, each with their own styles and abilities, mastering them can be hard work. The Legend of Zelda aspect is a little toned down in this game, being more about action and a massive reduction to puzzles. Now that isn't to say the puzzles are gone completely, just simple and in 'Adventure Mode' which brings back a classic map to explore but the same battles you'll come to love
Story - featuring an original plot and some new faces along with plenty of classics, we find ourselves playing through as a variety of characters through scenes of older zelda games with those old and new characters alike. The story begins with Zelda and Impa fearing an approaching evil and knowing they need to find the legendary hero of time reincarnated... that of course is the silent-as-ever Link, who is a trainee soldier that rushes out to help. You fight some enemies, find Impa, learn of the dangers you'll face... oh, and get a new talking fairy to stalk you... yay... but anyways. You battle your way through tons of areas and trying out several characters until finally you get to the end boss... guess who
GANONDORF! Who didn't see that coming?!
he's back for one last fight, and in the end, even becomes the terror known as Ganon, fighting you with every attack from the previous 'Giant Bosses'. Finally, its over... Ganondorf is put to rest once and for all (with no Tri-force of power to bring him back again) Leaves a little to be desired in some spots, but mostly its a well told story with lots of interesting developments
Replay - Who doesn't love this? You can just keep trying levels in 'Free Play' mode, testing every character and ability, slaughtering enemies and leveling up, then of course there is Adventure mode and Challenge mode, plus with expansions coming there will be battles coming for a long time
Sound - Honestly, the sound was like any Zelda or Dynasty game... lots of fighting sounds, lots of 'HYAT! Hut, kya, HYAH!' but good background music too
Final Score - 8/10 and I give it this because while its fun and good to play, especially with that 2-player option, it falls short of what we all know and love about Zelda games. Its a Dynasty Warrior game with a Zelda upgrade, but its still massively fun to play

Game Review - Mass Effect Series
Posted 11 years agoHello everybody and welcome to my game review. I'm your host, Bolt Templar, and today we will be looking at Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 as a whole.
~~WARNING~~ Spoilers ahead ~~WARNING~~
Lets jump on in!
Gameplay - Now playing the game is very different depending on which one you play. The first one is very shooter-based but there are powers too. Using them can be a bit of a handful until you master it... most of the game comes down to gear and carefully picked targets. Then came the second one and the powers made a huge leap forward. Its still fairly straight-forward with the guns but now its mostly variety and picking the guns you enjoy while also using powers and abilities whenever your fight calls for it. Then came three and wow was it a change. Upgrade your guns, evolve your powers, and learn when and how to deliver a good strong laser-punch, and you can crush things beneath your heel. The powers are incredible and useful in every battle, the guns give you a good change of pace and different weapon groups can change your experience. Along with all this is exploring the galaxy. Now 1 had the best exploration simply for its planetary exploration areas. It made things more interesting to drop down in your tank, drive around, have some intense fights with giant Thresher Maws, then fly off in your ship. 2 became ship focused instead and you burned up fuel going from system to system, had to find and mine resources like crazy, and at the end, you had to be careful or you'd lose 2/3rds of your crew and possibly die yourself! The main game was fun but endgame became a puzzle that was annoying to crack... then came 3, and while it was still ship based exploration, the planets became more about finding money or crew than anything and missions on planets were the major thing. Yeah you still lost people and the often 'choice-less' party switching became a nightmare to deal with, but as a whole, the game was amazing, and exactly the kind of gameplay I wish the other 2 had involved
Story - A LOT of people hate the final choices but lets look at it from start to end... It begins with you, a trained killing machine of a soldier being sent to recover an artifact. Bad shit goes down and you find yourself pulled into a galaxy wide hunt for a madman hell-bent on killing everybody in order to prove his loyalty and power to his TALKING SHIP OF MURDER! You find out about 'The Reapers' and, with as little a spoiler as I can, it tells you how these giant super-ships of death are a thousand in number and all want the same thing: wipe out civilization. Game 2 brings back old friends and pulls out new faces as the plot thickens. You start by getting blown up, spend a few years deader than dead, then get brought back to fight some more, but against some Reaper minions known as Collectors. After a massive battle with them (and a half-finished reaper) you find out how many of your people live and then you promptly get arrested to start game 3! Yay! Starting from earth this time, you find out the reapers have already arrived... and they are killing off everybody. They attack earth and you run for it to prepare armies for this war. After a galaxy-wide effort of collecting and preparing armies and teams, you bring the fight back to earth in order to destroy the reapers once and for all. If you did good enough, you face 3 (ok, technically 4) endings. The endings I'll leave secret but the colors are Red (bleh ending), Blue (pretty good), and Green (best), then the 4th special secret suicide ending where you shoot the ghost child and let the galaxy be wiped out. All in all, they could have done some sappier endings, but I kinda liked the choices they went with myself
Replay - Oh hell yes. Try new classes, unlock better stuff as you go, get bonus things, discover things you missed, get better endings! I've beaten each of them a half-dozen times and each time I find something new or learn new tricks. If you like the game, replay it and see what else you can find along the way
Sound - Good sound effects, excellent voice acting, and good futuristic sounding music makes for great ambiance. You can really feel the experience when you play and have large speakers ready
Final score - 9/10 = I knock it down to 9 simply because of all the DLC and extra cost just to see the better endings and get the good stuff in game. The DLC's rarely actually add much more than a mission or two and could easily have been put right in the game. While still great to play, if you want to play, you should try and find the version that has all the DLC included

Depression ~rant~
Posted 11 years agoI usually try to stay happy... I usually try to smile my way through everything. Nobody sees me cry, nobody sees me hurt, nobody sees it when I hurt myself just to feel a different pain... but I hurt everyday now
I want to be happy again, to feel like somebody important, to feel loved, but I don't feel that anymore... I just feel numb inside.
Nobody seems to want me... my family even said they wish I'd move out but I can't because of my son. My friends have all but stopped messaging me (most of them messaged me on my birthday and that's been it)
I just feel like I'm worthless, a nuisance, an obstacle to the world feel happy, but I can't give up
So everyday I get up with the sunrise, pack a lunch, go to work, and work until I ache and bleed. Then I go home and help around the house: Cleaning, doing dishes, laundry. I try to spend time with my son, but he avoids me lately, favoring my parents over me. Then I go to bed and repeat this 4 days a week... my weekends are no different except that instead of work, I try to spend time with my son even more, and he avoids me even more...
But he needs me... so I keep working. Selesh needs me, so I keep working. My family needs my income, so I keep working... and praying for it to end...
