Thoughts on Patreon?
Posted 11 years agoI had a lovely sort-of-vacation last week, but unfortunately I got sick the day I returned and then had a bad allergic reaction to the antibiotics I took. I'm okay, thankfully, I caught it early and had the expert help of my personal pharmacist, xavierfoxshandi. I'm just in a lot of pain and I'm going to be a little slow at getting back in the swing of things over the next few days as I recover.
In better news, I'm seriously considering starting up a Patreon when I finish the current batch of commissions. I've mentioned it before on Twitter and had a generally positive response, but I'm curious about what kinds of things people want to see from me.
I'm planning on doing mostly pinups, both digital and traditional. I love doing stuff like that and had a great time with the pieces I made for the AC art show this year, and it would be awesome to be able to have that kind of creative freedom on a more regular basis without the stress of preparing for a big show(and the waiting for a check!).
So if there are any ideas or specific themes you might have in mind, please let me know! I'm thinking about offering things like WIPs, tutorials and exclusive streams in addition to high resolution artwork, but I'd love to know what my watchers want to see! :)

Out of town next week - contact info
Posted 11 years agoFrom this Saturday(16th) to next(23rd), I'll be off visiting
ebayle and
floh
I'll have a laptop and tablet with me and will still be contactable and working on commissions, but I want to let people know that I'll be on a slightly reduced schedule so I have some time to de-stress and enjoy the company of friends. This shouldn't have a significant effect on current commissions, but there could be some minor delays. For those who need to get in touch with me, email is best since I'll be slower at responding to notes during that time.
If anyone has any questions or concerns about how this may affect the timing on your commission, please feel free to email me for an update anytime and I will do my best to get back to you quickly!
My email for those who need it is cthulhuisawake[at]gmail.com :)

Meme thing I guess yeah
Posted 11 years agoI rarely do memes but I'm trying to be more social. I keep seeing this around, so here, now you can all get to know me or something!
Name: Ash
Nickname: dinobutt, dino, hey you
Location: Pittsburgh
Age: 25
Height: 4'11"
Zodiac sign: Taurus
Any pets: I live with three cats but they belong to my roommates!
Fun fact: I have many facts but I'm not sure which would be considered fun. I... collect socks?
Identity, Sexuality & Personality
Gender identity: No
Sexual orientation: I like live humans
Romantic preference: See above
"Kinsey Scale" score: Dunno, I refused to take the test because it made me pick a gender

Routine
"Early Bird" or "Night Owl": Night owl for sure.
Bath or shower: Shower, but baths are nice for special occasions!
First thought in the morning: NO
Last thought before falling asleep at night: Everything. Just... everything all at once. Because who the hell needs actual sleep, right?
School/Work
Do you work or are you a student: All work all the time. I'd love to go back to school someday to get a more useful degree than fine arts though. Maybe computer science?
What do you do well: Draw, build computers, cook, sleep in. I'm a pro at sleeping well into the afternoon if I try!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years: Dead in a ditch somewhere? I have no idea, so far my life changes so drastically from year to year that 5 years from now is a complete mystery.
Habits (Do You...?)
Drink: Very little. It can be fun sometimes, but I'm a total lightweight and it tends to end poorly.
Smoke: Nope. I won't even be around smoke, it does bad things for my asthma and also I find it incredibly gross.
Do drugs: No. There are some I've had a passing curiosity about but I just don't care enough to actually try.
Exercise: Not as much as I used to :( I was really into weightlifting for a while but lack of access to a gym is a problem.
Have a go-to comfort food: Tacos.
Have a nervous habit: I bite my nails. A lot.
What is your favorite…?
Physical quality (in yourself): I have a pretty great butt.
In Others: ...Butts. Physical qualities are kind of low priority for me, but I do love a good butt.
Mental/emotional quality (in yourself): .......I'll get back to you on that
Food: Tacos!
Drink: Coffee <3
Animal: Microraptor. What could be cooler than having FOUR WINGS.
Artist/Band/Group: VNV Nation & all of the chiptunes forever
Author/Poet: Tough choice. Let's say it's a tie between Isaac Asimov and H.P. Lovecraft. Short stories are the best <3
TV Show: Star Trek (TNG or Voyager it's too hard to decide)
Actor/Actress: Let's go with Patrick Stewart because let's be honest, EVERYONE likes Patrick Stewart.
Yup. I hope that was educational!

Commissions are Open!
Posted 11 years agoI'll be taking just a few commissions for now, since I'm very nearly finished with the last batch and I want to have enough to work on for the next couple of weeks.
Pricing information is available here, but feel free to contact me for a specific quote!
If you're interested, you can either note me here, or email me at cthulhuisawake[at]gmail.com Email is preferred!
I'm hoping to stay open for at least a few days so everyone who has expressed interest recently has a chance to get in touch. :)

Do you like whale sharks?
Posted 11 years agoA friend of mine designed a whale shark squishable a while back and it's about to be a real thing! It just needs some more preorders. I don't know about you guys, but I've been dying to have my very own spherical filter feeder. Right now it's halfway to its backer goal, so at least go take a look and be charmed by its cuteness!

Commission updates and more!
Posted 11 years agoI'm still working through all my commissions from before AC, but I'm very nearly caught up now so I'll be reopening at some point this week, I think! I believe at this point I've contacted everyone who still has an unfinished commission with a tentative timeframe, but if I missed you, please feel free to smack me and ask for an update! All but the large pieces that still need to go through approval stages should be done by this weekend.
In other not-commission news, I'm considering maybe doing some tutorials? I've been asked a lot about my lineart in particular and while I'm not totally sure I can give a lot of insight beyond "practice all the time forever until your wrist shrivels and falls off" I could definitely try to go more in depth with it if that's a thing that people want to see. If you have any requests for tutorial ideas, feel free to suggest things! I love to share techniques. :D

Post-Anthrocon stuff
Posted 11 years agoLet me begin this by thanking all of you for being awesome. I sold every single one of the art show pieces I brought. It was an absolutely amazing first Anthrocon art show experience. I love you guys <3
It was also the best AC I've had yet! Not that there's much competition, the last couple of years I've had some bad personal stuff going on that kind of got in the way of enjoying anything, but there was no such problem this time, thankfully. I was a bit sad that I didn't finish my bobcat partial in time to frolic in it, but NEXT YEAR, it's happening. Maybe by then it'll even be a full suit. Anything can happen.
I played lots of games, bought lots of art, and awkwardly flailed at some of my favorite artists who probably think I'm really weird now. I got some prints of my favorite pieces from
nambroth and
windfalconart, and a pretty gryphon sketch from
louvelex. I was heartbroken when I was outbid on a beautiful original by my BFF
kuroseishin who is the best artist ever. I'll have to defend my bids better next year. :(
The biggest highlights of the con were finally getting to participate in a Paranoia game run by the amazing
xavierfoxshandi, who runs that game better than any other person in the world, and getting to spend time with
ebayle and
floh, who are really excellent people and I will miss them terribly even though I talk to them on a regular basis anyway I guess. There were many other awesome people that I enjoyed seeing but if I try to list them all I know I'll end up forgetting some and then I'll feel like a jerk and I don't think I know all their FA names anyway so HELLO IF I HUNG OUT WITH YOU THIS WEEKEND I PROBABLY <3 YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE ALL GREAT! YAY! Local friends included because of course I always <3 you guys.
Apparently I was pretty hard to find, next year I think I'll have a badge with "dinobutt" on it instead of just my character names. I didn't get to meet as many new people as I would have hoped, but I did run into
wintersnowolf briefly who made me a gorgeous badge and was super nice and adorable and I wish we could have hung out some more! Conventions are way too short to adequately enjoy all the people.
The only thing that wasn't awesome was the frustration of trying to arrange meals when Pittsburgh pretty much shuts down the entire city on weekends and I have really inconvenient dietary restrictions and nowhere to store my own food. Also, the meal guide was awful and half the places on there weren't even open. Next year I think it might be better to get a room and prepare a bunch of food in advance to store in a cooler there or something. If anyone else who can't have gluten has tips for staying fed at conventions in cities where the only food options are questionable at best, please share. ;_;
Also I apologize if I was awkward, I get easily overwhelmed by large groups of people and I'm kind of shy so if I did or said anything weird please pretend it didn't happen. >_>
There, that's the closest thing to a con report anyone is likely to see from me ever. Now to get back to business and start answering emails... Ohgod my poor inbox.

Commissions Closed
Posted 11 years agoI'm going to have to close commissions for now, until after Anthrocon! I'll still give out price quotes for future projects, but I'm swamped with both commissions and art show preparations for the moment, so I don't want to take on any more new work for a bit. My new price list will be going up on the 1st as scheduled, and I'll likely reopen about a week later.
Sorry for any inconvenience!

Gratitude and impending price changes
Posted 11 years agoAs some of you may know, I've been living off of freelance work full-time since March. It's been so much more successful than I could have hoped, and I'm so, so grateful to everyone who has commissioned me over the past several months. And to every single person who has watched me and supported my work, you are amazing and I <3 you!
I'm starting to get overwhelmed by the demand for my work, which is awesome, but I only have so many hours in a day! I want to be able to put as much time and effort into each piece as it deserves without making anyone wait unreasonably long, so as of July 1st I will be slightly raising my prices.
My current rates still apply to anyone who pays for a commission before the price change. For anyone who has already discussed a future commission with me as of this journal posting and received a quote, that quote will be honored through to the end of July, whenever you choose to proceed.
Please note that while I'm still accepting new commissions at the moment, wait times could be a month or more as of right now for anything besides simple sketches or badge pre-orders, since I'm working through a large queue and also preparing for Anthrocon! If you have a deadline, please make sure to let me know in advance and I can do my best to accommodate it.
Thank you all for your support and awesomeness. <3

Anthrocon Meme Time!
Posted 11 years agoSo it begins! I'm super excited this year because if I can finish the head in time I'll have a fursuit to prance around in like an idiot!
Where are you staying?
Home!
What day are you getting there?
I've been there for a while. XD
How are you traveling?
Car/bus? I live very close so whatever's convenient.
Who will you be rooming with?
xavierfoxshandi just like every day!
How is the best way to find you?
Perform the summoning ritual: after you begin the bloodletting with the sacred dagger, my true name will be made known to you. You must chant it backwards three times in the language of my people.
...Seriously though, I'll be all over the place, poke me on Twitter if you want to meet!
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Unlikely. I'm not really into panels.
What do you look like?
Very tiny, short brown hair. If all goes as planned, I may also look like a bobcat sometimes!
Will you be suiting?
MAYBE! :D
Do you do free art?
No.
Do you do trades?
Occasionally, if I have time for it.
Do you do badges?
Only if you pre-order! I won't be taking any commissions at the con.
What is your gender?
None
How tall are you?
4' 11'' - Note: yes I know I'm small but please DO NOT PICK ME UP OR PAT MY HEAD seriously this is a thing that people do
Can I talk to you?
NO >:( ...Okay yeah I'll allow it.
Can I touch you?
Please ask first, surprise touching will freak me out.
Can I visit your room?
Nooo that would be very awkward since I'm staying at home.
Can I buy you drinks?
I like free things I guess?
Can I give you stuff?
I certainly won't stop you!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Probably not unless I already know you.
Are you nice?
I have my moments.
How long are you going?
Until they throw me out
Do you have an artist table?
Nope! I'm FREEEEE! But I might lurk around my art show pieces sometimes creepily watching and silently willing people to bid on them, if that sort of counts.
Will you be going to parties?
Only if my friends drag me, I am an antisocial hermit.
Will you be performing?
Oh fuck no D:
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Flail madly in my general direction and/or yell one of my many aliases.
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
Running around with friends, or hanging out in the tabletop gaming room!
What/where will you be eating?
I'll probably be bringing snacks from home mostly, I have very severe dietary restrictions so I can't really eat people food. :(
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
If I get to know you for a bit first so I can reasonably assume you're not likely to kill and dismember me, then sure!
Can I take your picture?
Only if I'm in suit so you can't see my face, otherwise no. I hate having my picture taken and I will be very upset if you do this.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
I hope to sell all my art show pieces, get slaughtered in xavierfoxshandi's Paranoia game, and frolic around as a fluffy cat for a while! Bonus points if I also get to make new friends. :D

Mixedcandy Concept Art
Posted 11 years agoAs some of you may have heard, I've been chosen as an official Mixedcandy concept artist along with the very talented wintersnowolf! Ref sheets are one of my favorite things to draw, and I can't wait to see the awesome designs I'll get to work with!
I'll have specific commission info and examples up for this very soon, in the mean time, please note me if you're interested. :)

Post-FWA stuff
Posted 11 years agoHello new watchers! It was so nice meeting all you awesome people at FWA. <3 It was such an amazing first selling experience and just a great con in general. I'm going to try to make it back again next year! Thanks for being incredibly cool and supportive and making me feel dumb for stressing so much about whether I would sell anything.
Tomorrow I'll be compiling a list of all the remaining take home commissions and contacting people I owe art to, so don't worry if you haven't heard from me yet. I'm looking forward to finally getting a proper night of sleep tonight and letting my poor crippled hands rest from all of the drawing!

FWA and Commission Stuff
Posted 11 years agoI'm going to be at FWA this year! I intend to hang out in the artist alley, and will also have a few pieces up in the art show. This will be my first time attending FWA and also my first time selling art at a con, so I'm a little nervous. If you want to come say hi, look for my art or find mehndix who I will likely be following around excessively. I hope to see some of you lovely people there!
In other news, as of today I have taken the plunge into making art full time. It's a little scary, but I've had great experiences with all of my customers here and I really hope to make this work! So that means commissions are open indefinitely. I tend to have a pretty steady stream of business, but making a living off of freelance work alone can be tough and I'm not all that well known. Anyone who can help me out with a signal boost would be hugely appreciated and loved forever. <3 <3

Last Minute Valentine Commissions
Posted 11 years agoPrices are no different from the usual, outlined here:
http://spotted-leopard.com/commissions.html
Note me as soon as possible if you're interested!
Of course normal commissions are also very much available for those of you without a tight deadline. :)
*Content limitations apply; if you need a 20-character scene with a detailed background in three days I probably can't help you with that!
All taken! I'm still open for commissions with later/no deadlines though!
Porn and Things
Posted 12 years agoI don't want to link it in my profile because I try to keep these things low-key, but I do in fact have an adult gallery here now, so for those interested, it's
kittysaurus
It's got some reuploads from the more tame stuff over here as well as some more explicit things I hadn't previously shared publicly. From now on everything other than clean art (pinups included) will go there!
Also, does anyone reading this know how Weasyl folders work? They don't really go into it in their FAQ and I'm both lazy and still a little hesitant to learn a new site. I don't want to be maintaining four whole galleries if I start being more active over there, so I was hoping to maybe make a folder for adult work to keep it separate but in the same gallery. I don't want it to show on my main page, but I want it to be easy to find if people want it. Is that how that works?
My Weasyl is here for those who missed it: https://www.weasyl.com/~tethys

Other places to find me (not leaving FA!)
Posted 12 years agoI'm still going to be posting stuff here, and I'll probably be a lot more active with art in general in the near future, but for those of you who are leaving, here's where you can find me!
Twitter: http://twitter.com/Dinobutter
Weasyl: http://www.weasyl.com/~tethys
Twitter is the best place to see my art. I'm going to be using it a lot! I have no plans currently to continue updating Weasyl but if things really take off over there, that may change. So there it is.

Streaming FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
Posted 12 years agoThat's right, I'm going to attempt streaming today at 2pm EST. I'll be offering cheap sketches and free entertainment, so come stop by and laugh at my discomfort!
I'll be posting an announcement here and on Twitter just before I start, so watch for that. My Twitter is Dinobutter if you prefer to watch for it there.

New Twitter!
Posted 12 years agoFirst of all, I'm going to be opening commissions again soon. If this is something you're excited about, you may wish to follow me on my new Twitter account!
http://twitter.com/Dinobutter
I'll still post commission openings/info here, of course, but I'll probably make more tweets than journals, and likely post WIPs and random sketches and have special offers going on there as well. I'm considering getting started with streaming, too, and your best bet for seeing stream announcements will be over there!
So let's all be Twitter friends! :)

Commission Status
Posted 12 years agoColored digital commissions are going to be closed temporarily, since I don't want to take on more work than I have time for. I don't like to keep customers waiting too long.
However, I am still open for sketches or traditional art of any kind.
If you've seen my digital price list recently, you may notice that I've increased my prices a bit, since demand has been growing and with two other jobs I can't devote the same amount of time to art that I used to. Traditional commission prices haven't changed, though. I'd love to do more of those! :D
I should be opening up again for larger pieces in a month or so. Thank you all for supporting my work!

Hello new watchers!
Posted 12 years agoThere are a lot of you suddenly and it's a little intimidating! But I'd like to thank you all for supporting my work. You're awesome! I'm going to try to make a point of posting more art from now on. :D
New scanner!
Posted 12 years agoI finally gave in and bought a scanner, so over the next few days I'll be uploading a bunch of traditional art I haven't been able to show before.
This also means I'll be taking commissions for such things. Pricing information will be available soon!

Posted 12 years agoMade an account on Weasyl. Doesn't mean I'm leaving FA, though, I like it here too. :D
