Short Documentary on Furries
Posted 7 years agoA YouTuber I love made a 45 minute documentary on the origin of the furry movement.
He does a great job staying neutral and getting reputable sources. Even if you're not interested in this documentary, he has several others and publishes them regularly.

Posted 7 years agoWelcome to another journal in my MR series!
Along with every website ever!, FA updated its policies to reflect the EU’s GDPR. (I won't go in detail about the GDPR if only because I'm butthurt over parts of it. I'm sure there are less bias sources.)
Some of the various changes includes additions to the CoC: Fender wrote:2.4 - Do not harass anyone.
[...] and remarks which discuss personal grievances, quarrels, malicious rumors, or negative statements about other individuals. This does not include civil discussions about topics of public interest such as celebrities or government officials, but does include 'bewares' and similar content. I underlined the parts that I want to whine about.
The first paragraph is what made me want to write a MR entry. Not only is it implied, it flat-out uses Bewares as an example of ban-able offences. (For those not in the know, Bewares are warnings often collected on pages and dedicated websites about users that have been conned and proof of the con with the purpose of alerting prospecting buyers that do their research.) You could argue that only official mods should be able to decide if a user is a con, but what power do FA mods have on dA or other sites? Bewares are specifically tailored to be as to-the-point and damning as possible, as well as easily searchable.
Fender wrote:[...] If a particular type of content does not appeal to you, then do not seek it out to make disparaging comments. [...] On the other side, I'm thrilled that "content poaching" has been directly addressed in the CoC. While I have been relatively unaffected, I know a good handful of users that are harassed on almost everything they post. (Think: vore, TF, other definitely not realistic kinks. Even some possible ones like paw.)
...Kind of unrelated, but I'm salty about the age increase too. PFQ recently took a step in the opposite direction: the age requirement (stated in the required ToS) is still the same, but new players are no longer forced to enter their birthday; this allows for less kids lying about their age while leaving PFQ completely in the right if something comes up. There is plenty of perfectly SFW content on FA, if only people would learn how to tag...

Tab for a Cause~
Posted 7 years agoI am posting all over the place lately...
Just a quick plug for Tab for a Cause~
If you have not heard, Tab for a Cause is a browser extension that changes your New Tab windows, adding two small ads whose revenue go towards your choice of a handful of organizations. As of typing, Tabbers have raised almost half a million dollars by just using the internet as normal!
Tab for a Cause has been around for a while but was recently relaunched with all its old functionality and new features. You can set custom backgrounds, make large bookmarks (great for touchscreens), and type notes and reminders that you will see every time you open a new tab!
Of course, the main feature is the heart system. Every time you open a tab, you get one heart. Hearts work both as EXP and points to spend towards your charity of choice. (I'm level 48 with 13,851 hearts donated since 792 days ago~)
TL;DR: Use Tab for a Cause, please~

Updating ToS: Requests/Trades/Commissions Set to Semi-Open
Posted 8 years agoThings on my Priority list are unaffected. Now that I have two lovely Patrons (), I am updating my ToS and commissions pages on here, dA, and Patreon. My adopt style will be changed as well as my build-your-own ToS.
Nothing too major will be changed; I just want to warn everyone that I may suddenly change ToS in the middle of any requests/trades/commissions/adopts/BYO at this time.

Posted 8 years agoNo names will be given to prevent further insult to those referenced.UPDATE: The situation written here is now dealt with, yet the questions still stand.
I'm at an impasse. And by that I mean I'm very confused and sad. :(
So the other day I saw a cute onigiri plushie someone made and posted an image to an art site. I thought it was cute so I favorited and commented on the image saying that I love it. I asked if they had a Esty shop and they happily replied with their brand new shop with a few more cute plushies that I saw on their page. I commented that I would like to mimic their onigiri plushie style and would link/boost their page and shop.
They sent me a PM:
Hey,
I'd really appreciate it if you didn't copy my design for your own. These pieces of art are mine and I have my signature in the design. Mimicking art is just really uncool, even if you do give credit. Just as you wouldn't trace someone's art, and boost them, you shouldn't mimick my design. It's just really uncool.
I totally agree that tracing is mean ...without credit. So I replied:
Oh, I definitely won't copy! :o I hate those people as much as the next person.
How to say it... I was... inspired? by your post? There are many onigiri plushies out there (just take this google image search for example) that many are bound to look the same. When it comes down to it, onigiri is an open-source food and the chibi style is believed to have originated in Sailor Moon.
Sorry for the confusion! If you would like me to change or remove my comments, just ask!
After a few hours of no reply, I assumed they blocked me (I don't blame them if they misinterpreted me) and checked the post. Sure enough, it was not in my favorites anymore. Out of curiousity of how the system handles blocked account comments, I used an IP randomizer to check the post and... no post? On further investigation I found this post by them:
Earlier tonight I was writing my very first journal about launching a shop for my sewn babies. I was very excited. But my journal has changed and I have removed all submissions because a member said they would mimic my art instead of supporting it. It's honestly so discouraging. All of my plushies are my own sketches, designs, patterns, and hard work. They have my signature. They are part of a brand I've created and it's heartbreaking to think someone out there is taking these things from me.
It makes me so sad that I made them think that! Their plushies are adorable and so well made! D:
UPDATE:
I bought an onigiri plushie from their shop with an apologetic note. I'm still looking for opinions on the topic.
UPDATE:
I received a response PM:
In response to your journal, I have a full time job so that's why I didn't respond right away. I appreciate the thoughts, I understand your perspective. But I still don't appreciate the whole mimic thing. I'm glad my work could inspire you, I guess?
It's just a real shame.
I responded with:
Ah, don't worry about not being able to respond quickly. Real life is more important.
I hope you decide to continue designing and selling plushies, if it makes you happy!
...I am still oblivious to why mimics would insult you. As Akaikosh (and others from FV) put it, all artists mimic and adapt on others' styles. “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” ― Oscar Wilde. If not me doing so with boosting, someone else doing it without credit. I especially want to know so I do not hurt anyone else's feelings. ._.
The short of it is that I am making an onigiri plush, do you want me to boost you?
Now we wait.
UPDATE:
While I'm thinking about it, I'm adding another question: at what point is something open-source bootlegged? In context, the onigiri plush I favorited looks strikingly similar to the second to right bottom one on the image, but just how different can you make those type of things?
FINAL SITUATION UPDATE:
Upon checking for a response for the PM I sent after a few days, I noticed they closed their shop and entire account. I'm going to side mostly with Akaikosh here; they were not going to last long...
...Maybe it's just because I deal with insults all the time, but I feel like everyone needs to develop a certain amount of resistance before putting their heart and soul (AKA art) out for anyone to judge... It's a sad fact of the world...
I hope they take some time off to think, and maybe decide to return to making plush for sale!
Now I just need to get my money back for the one I bought...
Does anyone else consider mimicking a popular style tracing?

Midnight Ranting: Badges, Aging, Ads, Mods
Posted 8 years agoIt's past midnight.
To the Nether with it, I'm going to rant.
Feel free to argue/agree with me in the comments!
I may be worded but I'm not trying to say what's right! :)
FA: Badges
I like badges. They are fun to collect and display IRL and online.
I think badges on FA are going to be... problematic. They are being added soon, hopefully, but it also makes me concerned about the... love being given to FA. See below.
FA/IMVU: Aging
I love FA. I love it more than dA. There are so many reasons that I think FA is the best art site.
That being said, I'm hesitantly on the "%&@%##& UPDATE ALREADY" bandwagon. There's no hiding that FA is outdated. On the (very) plus side, it's easier to load. On the downside, poor story support, questionable quality, sometimes confusing format... The poor servers are dinosaurs last information I read.
What was starting to scare me the most had little to do with FA. Long story short, my friend introduced me to IMVU the 'game'/service. In my opinion, it is... bad... It's a great concept that used to be an amazing community, but the raw software just isn't cutting it anymore; it may have the potential for infinite fancying up due to community-submitted content, but it can never improve past the technical limitations. When I realized IMVU owns FA, I began to worry that FA would be treated in the same "run yourself while we take ad revenue" way.
With the announcement of badges, IMVU is at least working on something related to FA. That gives me hope.
FA: Advertisements
You know what's awesome? User made/paid ads. I've found several cool artists through the user ads here.
You know what's satisfying? Occasional banner ads that you forget are there until you remember that they are silently paying for this site.
You know what's a wiener move? Video. Ads. Video ads used to be the bane of my existence; they slowed my terrible internet down to a crash. And does [i]anyone[i] like sound from nowhere?! Has anyone else been getting video ads here lately?
FA: Mods
Last rant of the journal is a nice one.
I like the mods here. Well, at least, I love admin
asianeko. She has dealt with all my trouble tickets kindly. She even read/responded my suggestions/requests for improving anti-CoC spam, even though I'm an outside pleeb who knows nothing about FA's inner workings besides what I can read from the source code. She deserves more recognition.

Posted 8 years agoDear anyone that does art, no matter how poor or amazing,
A person that I care for deeply is having a very hard time. If anyone can provide any sort of fanart, it may cheer him up greatly. Sketch, doodle, masterpiece painting, any type of appreciation is what he needs right now. Even if it is a doodle on a napkin.
His namesake OC: Roahm

A fanmade feral version of Roahm
You can either read the rules and submit fanart yourself to http://www.dragonsoftstudio.com/fanart/ , or upload it and Note/Shout at me.

Stupidly Excited
Posted 8 years agoFirst of all, Black Day is this Friday (4-14-17). It's a Korean holiday that I am going to celebrate. Basically, it's the Valentine's Day for single people; you party with your single friends.
This Sunday (4-16-17) is Easter, but I'm combination of deist and polytheistic, so... Eh, I love dyeing eggs~ Plus all the adorable pastel artworks are coming out~
This Sunday is also the anniversary of my page~
But most of all... I purchased a base for Protogens! Prepare for one of the most adorable creatures to be made available for commission~

Huh.
Posted 9 years agoLooking at my gallery, it's really obvious I'm left-eyed. ... Well at least to the geek like me that researches this stuff; left-eyed people tend to draw action on the right two-third dividing line (that's another geeky thing; visually pleasing art is nicely divided in three segments with the lines being where our eyes like to focus) because that's where our eyes go first. Being left-eyed means I'm most likely right-handed, which is true.
I'm such a geek. =_=
