New Process
General | Posted 3 years agoDecided to try something new.
I'm going to be working in staged batches from now on, hopefully it will help reduce some of the strain on me and reduce burnout.
it's a 3 stage process and so far it seems to be working much better for me. I've done more art in the past few days than I have in the past couple years. Even with the weather making me feel kinda gross today, I still got stuff done.
It also allows me to spend a bit more time with each piece without feeling pressured into forcing myself to work on it nonstop until it's finished.
This may be spread over multiple days or maybe one stage per week. I guess it just depends on what I end up liking once I start to get more of a feel for it all.
Stages:
1) Large batch of sketches
2) Ink all the sketches once I have a batch
3) Color all the inked images
This does mean there will be a bit more of a gap between start and completion on each pic from now on, but I'm hoping that it'll help me with being more active than I have been able to in a long time.

Inktober commissions??
General | Posted 8 years agoJust gauging interest?? I already have brush pens, technical pens/fine liners, markers, etc that I use and experiment with on a regular basis, but I've recently picked up a big bottle of waterproof ink and some new brushes.
So was considering doing some simple grab bag commissions for Inktober, maybe $5-10 each, was just wondering if that's something any of you would want??

Back at it... (commissions open)
General | Posted 8 years agoI'm ending my hiatus and returning to making art. My schedule and health are still a lil out of whack but I am comfortable enough with where I'm at to start moving forward with things again.
Commissions are open again, please understand that things are going to be a bit bumpy to start off with as I adjust to this again, work on finishing where I left off, make changes/updates to stuff, etc
I will be working on an updated/simplified pricing guide (hopefully will have that worked out by the end of the month)
To those of you I owe art, if I haven't messaged you already please know that I am pushing to get to you asap, I've made quite a bit of progress in the past week. As always if you aren't on my skype keep an eye out for a pm with update info.
And finally, a big thank you to everyone for being so patient with me, I truly appreciate it.
-Chris

General | Posted 8 years agoContinued Hiatus
General | Posted 8 years agoWhile I know I had just started back up, and that there are some of you who are already disappointed, I'm just not ready to come back.
I'm just not where I need to be health wise, add to it that I've started going to physical therapy again, and I just feel like I've been run over most days.
I do really appreciate how patient everyone has been about waiting for their art, hopefully I will be up to continuing here soon.

In other news I think I've found some ram for my pc, it should be here tomorrow (I did find it on ebay so hopefully it actually works >~> ) so that means I only really need to get storage handled before I can start working digitally again.

Asking for help
General | Posted 8 years agoSo as some of you already know my health stuff has been pretty bad over the past year. I'm still not really feeling great, but that said I'm not really the type to wallow in frustration and depression, so I'm forcing myself to get up and get working on things properly again. If this is how I'm going to feel, this is how I'm going to feel, and I'm not going to let it keep me from doing things I enjoy.
I can't guarantee that I'm going to be as active as I was (especially now with the cane putting some extra strain on my wrist) but I will be doing my best to be.
I'm managing to work on a little art about every other day or so as of right now. My biggest hindrance though is my pc, I've made various complaints and done my best to deal with it's hiccups over the past year, but it's pretty much all but bit the dust at this point.
It's constantly freezing or crashing, and any attempt to use a resource heavy program (something like photoshop) ends in me having to reinstall windows and set everything up all over again.
So I finally gave in and purchased a new one, I couldn't really afford much due to all the health stuff. It's kept me from really working much and what little I did earn has gone towards meds and dr's bills. I've gotten a bare-bones system and that's all I can cover. I still need to get some things like ram, storage of some kind, etc.
Normally I'm not the type to push commissions or to try to be a salesman, but I need help, I have some ych's and things that I'm going to be posting over the next little bit. I won't be able to do anything other than traditional until I get the new pc up and running, that said I will finish them digitally as well after that.

General | Posted 9 years agoPossible stream tomorrow??
General | Posted 9 years agoSo not something I'd typically do but I thought I'd test the waters and see if there's any interest in that kind of thing??
Normally I feel like people would get bored pretty quickly of watching me work on the same painting for 15+ hours...
but I figured with me already having to use new software I might as well go all in on the trying new things bit.
I'm not sure how exciting it'll be, that said there's bound to be some sort of entertainment value in watching me fumble my way through my first use of gimp >.>
warning my skype was hacked
General | Posted 9 years agoso yeah just a heads up my skype has been hacked, don't click the links they spammed everyone with :/
Freebies
General | Posted 9 years agoso between all the Dr. stuff and the whole stabbing myself thing I haven't really done much in the way of art for like a month. I need a bit of a warm up to get back in the swing of things before I go back to working on commissions so offering up some free art.
I can't guarantee these will be good >.>
They might be kinda rough, that said I'd appreciate the help so shoot me your ideas, I'm open to drawing whatever (fandom related or not)

New vid on youtube
General | Posted 9 years agoIve been back doing art for a little over a year now (and back in the fandom) so I thought I'd post a little something to celebrate that fact.

so I'm finally back kinda...
General | Posted 9 years agoFinally got my fa back so updates....
Had my initial Dr's visit and got a couple steroid injections, new meds, and some tests done (MRI, blood tests, etc.)
I still need to go do the other mri but we got the results back from the first one. I have an extruded disc pressing on the nerve root for my right leg.
So I may or may not end up needing to go in for surgery. The Dr. wants me to see a neurosurgeon for a consultation.
On my birthday I managed to accidentally stab my leg. my knife went in pretty deep, enough that they were worried I might have done some real damage. I got the stitches out Monday but I'm still kind of off as of right now, mostly just laying with my leg up. I've been up and moving around a bit so hopefully I'll feel up to sitting at the desk here soon. Maybe by the end of the week?? Still having some issues with movement and getting my leg to bend so I'm really not sure.
and I think that's everything

a bit of philosophy for artists
General | Posted 9 years agohttp://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_.....he-artist.html
I feel like this is something not a lot of people understand or maybe it just gets lost along the way. I see far too many artists out there who get hung up on ideas or fantasies, I have to have a lot of followers, I have to draw what people like, etc.
They get stuck on these idea's like "I have to be popular to be a good artist" or "everyone should like my work". They end up hurting themselves, lashing out because things don't live up to their expectations, and in the end they burn out and give up.
I want every one to take a step back, take a few deep breaths, and think about what it actually is to be an artist?? like really think about it down to it's core. It's not the art itself that's special, anyone can learn to draw, or paint, or make a fursuit, or anything else for that matter.
We are storytellers, it's our job to take that little seed of an idea someone has and bring it to life, to put a smile on their faces. Our industry is all about that service not the end product. What you make, it's quality, your style, how popular you are, none of that matters.
None of that is what puts a smile on the clients face, there are probably 1000 other people on this site alone who could do the exact same thing you do.
So what makes your art unique?? What makes the person who receives it feel special??
You do, the fact that you made it, that you enjoyed making it, or you took an extra few hours to talk them through their ideas, that's what matters. If you aren't happy, if you aren't truly enjoying what you do then walk away.
Seriously, just take a break. If you need a week, 6 months, a year, whatever it is to figure things out, that's what you need.
(on a side note I think this is the last one of these I'm going to post, I don't think anyone bothers to read them)

New youtube channel
General | Posted 10 years agoDecided to remake the channel, this one is properly branded with the dlweedo name instead of my sona name and all the videos are public, so for those of you that do enjoy watching them they're searchable as well as visible in the channel feed instead of having to follow posted links. I'll have to figure out someplace to link it on my profile as fa is still using the long dead /usr link system :/
for now though link to the new channel

Going to be MIA
General | Posted 10 years agoI know not many people bother to read these but I thought I'd post a little update anyway. I'm going to be M.I.A. for a bit, not that I haven't been as it is lately, but my classes are taking up way more time than I thought. I do have a little backlog of stuff I've finished and haven't had a chance to post yet, hopefully I'll get that posted in the little break I've got coming up. I'm going to try and clear out the last few pic's on my queue then too.
Hopefully I'll have a bit more time for doing some art once my paleobiology class ends, that will at least be one less lab class.

General | Posted 10 years agoPatreon Announcement
General | Posted 10 years agoSo I now officially have a patreon https://www.patreon.com/dlweedo
I figured this would be a better way to ask for support and accept donations rather than directly through paypal. It's still an option for anyone who doesn't want to deal with patreon but I feel like this is an opportunity for me to give back to those who do support me.
I will not be doing the whole exclusive content thing like some others do, my art will be posted everywhere just as it always has been, this will instead be an opportunity for those who already donate to or commission me on a regular basis to receive recognition for supporting me.
As always thank you to those that continue to support my art.

General | Posted 10 years agoupdate on commissions, the computer sittuation, life, etc.
General | Posted 10 years agoSo haven't really been posting frequently as of late but thought I should do a little update. Just got my grades back for class up to this point and I've got a 100% so far. Sickle and I have our anniversary this sunday so I'm excited for that ^.^
I'm also still doing the 25% off on commissions thing. So far I've almost made enough to cover the new motherboard, I need to earn a bit more to cover it and the ram but I did want to say thank you to those that have helped so far ^.^

Help please... Cheap commissions
General | Posted 10 years agoSo my computer is on it's last leg and I desperately need a new one. I hate pushing my art 'cause it feels like I'm pandering or something but I'm in a bit of a desperate spot here. I need my pc for both work and school purposes, not to mention my art. I need about $100 to the new motherboard and ram.
I'm going to be doing commissions at 25% off, My prices can be found here http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/dlweedo/
Payments are through paypal
(I'll be setting up a temporary site in the next day or so for those of you who wish to pay by card)
Thank you to everyone that's supported me so far.

updates and such
General | Posted 10 years agoSo I know haven't posted much lately, I've not only been sick but also been having issues with my arm/wrist (for those of you that don't know I have nerve damage in both wrists) I've been feeling extremely weak and shaky and it made it difficult for me to get much done.
I'm feeling better now for the most part and have started working on stuff again. I wanted to let everyone know that I am still open for commissions as well as still have several active ych's.
In other news I've ordered a tablet and so far it looks like it should be here Wednesday. I'm thinking about doing some kind of stream where I just doodle for people as a way to get used to using it, so let me know if that's something that would interest you.
