BREAK IN, Guitars and Bikes STOLEN
Posted 2 years agoPlease share this post with friends, groups, forums and chats if you are a member of any that are seattle or PNW specific.
My storage unit was broken into last night around 8:40 and a number of very precious things were taken including two of my hand made guitars and a few bikes.
I am putting this out there in case anyone sees anything. I have pictures of most of what was taken and of the thief linked below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEEhTF3kcO8
https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing
Bikes:
Red Specialized Rockhopper
Pics below. Serial number P0514470
It has a cargo rack installed that is finished in truck bed liner, a front fender, red bell, it will have a mount for a light on one handle bar. The handle bar covers are red and black aftermarket as is the seat. It has toe cage pedals
Vintage Sears 3 speed
Pics attached serial number 503.47 380
It is a three speed bike with a sturmey archer system. It has a old chrome cargo rack and a old but cheep brooks saddle.
"The Chief" beach cruiser bicycle
Pictured below. Unknown serial
This bike is unridable at the moment. It has flat tires, a bad chain, rusty gears and possibly other issues. It has a little sun damage. I just got this one to fix up for a friend and hadn't had the time to do the work .
Guitars:
Blue Handmade telecaster with set neck and 24 frets "AJ" logo on headstock
Pics attached, this has no serial number but it is a very unique guitar I built as part of my luthier education at roberto venn school of luthiery. It is very precious to me.
Mediera by guild 12 string acoustic
pic attached of similar looking guitar. Mine has a chip out of the faceplay on the upper corner of the headstock.
Turn of the century parlor guitar with while oak back and sides
This is a VERY old guitar. It has a half finished crack repair for a very serious crack on one of its sides.
Turn of the century ukulele
I unfortunatly do not have a picture of this instrument, but assume it may be with some of the other stolen items.
Lyle Hummingbird copy
Picture of me playing attached. This guitar has seen some unusual work. The headstock is painted brown and the bridge has had its saddle slot plugged and recut.
Mitchel acoustic electric with no bridge
No pics of this guitar but it is also a low priority. Its only value is in fixing it up. It has a very nasty bridge tear out situation and the bridge is off the guitar and presumably still inside the guitar where I put it for safe keeping.
Blue Johnson acoustic
Pictures below with me playing it. This is not a valuable guitar. Its value to me is purely sentimental. It was one of my first guitars. It will likely be missing some parts and not strung up. The bridge has been sanded down and it has had its neck converted to a bolt on. Lagbolts hold the neck from the inside.
Vintage red flattop Silvertone parlor guitar with dot inlays
No pics of this one unfortunately, but it has had some unique work done to it. It has had a modern refret and its painted on inlays were replaced with real inlay dots. The fretboard was dyed black. It may be with the other stolen items.
No pictures of this
Epiphone, black with butterfly
Pic attached of similar guitar. These are not common, only a few thousand were made and this one has some damage to the binding around the fretboard.
Yamaha acoustic
No pics of this guitar but its one of the non-japanese yamahas. Its not a high priority but may be with the other stolen items.
Partscaster guitar with redburst paint job and acoustic epiphone neck with rose painted on pickguard
No pic available. Should be in an old gig bag
This guitar was build out of a old epiphone acoustic guitar neck and a body that was probably off of an old harmony electric or maybe a teisco or something.
Its got 1 tone, 1 vol and a single gold humbucker pickup. Ih has a black pickguard.

Whoever Reported My Telegram is a DICK
Posted 9 years agoWhoever reported my Telegram account for spam and had it locked down is a gigantic dick. I cant even appeal this apparently. I'm just fucked. The thing that pisses me off so much about this is it's someone who I met, know and have the number of. If you hate me that much, can you please talk to me about it or something rather than trying to black ball me from the community?
The Reasons I Support Bernie Sanders for President
Posted 9 years agoI know that not all my followers are going to like this political post, but I really feel like this needs to be said.
It's not about free stuff, it's not about hating Hillary, it's not about the memes or the cute bird or any of that. What it comes down to is a sustainable and stable economy, scientific literacy and doing what we need to do to keep our country moving.
Fight for 15: 15 p/h is barely enough to live in Seattle, but, I can tell you this: My business has done better and better as the pay rate for others here rises to our 15 p/h minimum wage. When people are making more, they spend more. It really is that simple. When all you can afford is your rent, your bills and your food, you aren't going out and supporting business with all that disposable income you don't have. And boy, I'll tell you, if you got kids, or you have medical problems or anything else that would complicate your situation more than just rent, bills and food, I don't even know how you plan to stay afloat making less. Raising the min wage is going to help the economy, it's going to help families, it's going to help everyone. Yes, it's a double edge sword, but the cons do not outweigh the pros and for the record, I also think we need to talk rent control too. However, the real job creators are not the CEOs and stockholders, it's the people who write their paychecks and that buck stops at the consumer and most consumers are employees who's spending power could be greatly increased by raising the minimum wage.
Tuition free college: Ok, here is a bombshell of a fact. These things are DIRECTLY connected and in this order education>technology>industry>economy>quality of life. If you want a good quality of life, you need a healthy economy. If you want a healthy economy, you need healthy industry which is fueled by new ideas, inventions and innovations that are dependent on science and engineering. If you want scientists and engineers, you need to create them through education. Investing our nation's tax money in the education of it's people is EXACTLY what we need to be doing if we want to have a healthy economy, flourishing industry and happier people. It really is that simple.
Wall street and big banks: Were you out of work in 2009? Yeah? Me too. Did you have trouble affording your rent? Buying food? Paying bills? Finding a job? Yeah, me too. You know why? Because ILLEGAL activity that was actually encouraged by big banks crashed the economy with shitty loans and bad housing market speculation. Millions of people lost their jobs, their houses, their lives all because these guys wanted to make some short term profits. What they did was criminal and criminally reckless and rather than put every one of those fuckers in jail, we bailed them out with our tax dollars. What did they do with all that money? Gave bonuses to all their executives and enjoyed it. Not a single thing was put in place, not a single piece of legislation passed, nor was there any talk of breaking up the companies that committed these crimes. So, in the end, what message did we send to them? Basically, that they are above the law and that we cannot prevent them from fucking us over like that again. NO. fuck that. Look, I am a business owner, I know about making money and what it costs to make money but I also know that I don't have to hurt people to put food on my table. If you are committing acts of fraud on a scale large enough to hurt the world economy, you are committing an act of war against the people who live in it. We have a responsibility, all of us, to hold these criminals responsible for what they did and to see to it that it won’t happen again, not on our watch.
Police accountability: If you are white, live in a nice neighborhood, can afford nice clothes, this may not be your reality, but police abuse their power all the time. This last year we have seen many questionable deaths and in some cases unquestionable murders committed by police officers. I am not saying this to disparage those who were the badge, I have a lot of respect for people that serve their country by wearing that blue uniform on the front lines. I am a 2x victim teller of 2 armed bank robberies, I was thankful to have police that comforted me, and caught my attackers. However, maybe we need to rethink how we do this. It's a tough job and talking with some cops is like talking with any soldier that suffers from ptsd or other high stress related illness. I don't think most people join the police to be bad cops, but I do think that some bad people are police and that good people snap. We need to figure out some better way of dealing with officers that do have issues that make them bad at their job and we should be holding officers to a VERY high standard when it comes to the people they are supposed to protect and the laws they are supposed to uphold. No one should be above the law. Not cops, not executives, not presidents. This is a message we need to make heard loud and clear, both to police and to the people they serve, for everyone's sake.
War: God, haven't you had enough? Under Bill clinton and George W Bush, I have seen war during my years more often than I haven't. Trillions and trillions of dollars, millions of lives sacrificed for what? We could have invested those people and that money in much better ways, much less tragic ways. We could have done something about homelessness, built better roads, created a solar energy grid. Many families could have had mothers, fathers, sons and daughters that now only have painful memories. I don't want any more hawks in the White House. I don't doubt for a second that Bernie would use a military option if he needed to protect us, but I do doubt that he would lead us into another Iraq.
Transparency: Bernie is one of the first candidates in a long, long time to be as transparent as he has been. On his votes, his personal life, his beliefs, his finances.
LGBT Support: Bernie has supported the LGBT community, even when it was unpopular, even in the face of criticism and attack. He stood up for us when it counted. He fought back against bigotry and hatred even when that was a perfectly socially acceptable thing to hate. He took our struggle and made it his. I have A LOT of respect for that.
Civil rights: I don't need pundits or memes to tell me why someone that marched with the great Dr. Martin Luther King .jr is someone that understands the real issues of race in this country. I don't need to them to tell me about his conviction or his resolve. These were protests where police sicced attack dogs, billy clubs and fire hoses were used on people and thats not counting what non-government groups like the KKK did to protesters. These were dangerous times to be standing up to racism, and it literally was risking your life for what you believed in. Bernie was there. Bernie stood up. He is still standing up.
So, those are my reasons. I don't ask that you validate them or agree with me, but I do thank you for taking the time to read them and I hope that you will consider what I have said here and that you will consider supporting Senator Sanders in his bid for the presidency.
Thank you.

Anyone know a good place to get waterslide decals?
Posted 9 years agoHey, anyone know a good company that does waterslide decals? I'm hoping to be able to send them a simple .png file rather than mess with Photo Shop. The thing is, I just had my artist draw up some pretty bitchin designs but the company we tried ordering from had a ridiculous number of specifications for what they needed such as layering, a photoshop specific file type, having to make the thing work with their template even after all that was said and done. I have never ordered one of these before, so for all I that might just be the way it is everywhere.

Busting Ass Fixing Guitars
Posted 10 years agoI have been taking the week off of customer stuff to focus on store stock guitars and it's been super productive! I'll be listing some really cool stuff this week from vintage archtops to student guitars. Stay tuned for some neat stuff!
    Parts ordered!
Posted 10 years agoI started putting in part orders for the guitar today! I am super excited!
So far:
Wilkinson vintage style tuners with slotted post and chrome button
Single ply black pick guard material
2 CTS 250k pots
.047 Orange drop tone capacitor
Switchcraft output jack
Some great looking and unique vintage-y knobs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/22184549437.....%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I have decided that the neck pickup is going to be one of these guys: https://youtu.be/8OeKbATttug?t=84
Which I still need to order.
The only thing is that a bridge is proving harder to find than anticipated. I am going to need something with individually adjustable saddles because of the 7.25-16" compound radius. No one (to my knowledge) makes a fixed radius or tuneomatic style bridge with a 16" radius. I also want something vintage looking like a hard tail strat bridge. The issue is, I want to avoid using a string through the body bridge if possible, and I also need something with a little height to it as well if I want to do a surface mount bridge pickup, otherwise the I wont have clearance to put a pickup under the strings.
Assuming I can get the bridge thing sorted out, I will probably be using one of these pickups in the bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npwo0kyxV5A

Making ASK FIRST stickers to encourage active consent
Posted 10 years agoI am going to design stickers for our next house parties that say:
"ASK FIRST
Consent is easy. Consent is sexy"
I have been looking around online and I can find any pre made ones that really make me happy, so I'm just going to make something that works. Plus, I can put a cute little paw print on them. Hell, just asking if I can slap a sticker on someone will be an excellent example of how to ask for consent too :)
I'd love some help from local artists and or people with better calligraphy skills than myself

Standing up to bullies and abusive furries
Posted 10 years agoThis is something about the fandom that really really bothers me. We actively encourage behaviors that allow bullying and abusive behavior to flourish. When what some people label as "drama" happens it is generally a legitimate problem that may have very real and unfortunate ramifications for the target individual. Rather than support, we stigmatize those that attempt to get support from friends and create awareness of issues and problem individuals. By doing this, we are teaching our peers to internalize their suffering and isolate themselves thus enabling even more abusive behavior. then we wonder why it is that we have so many people in the fandom that victimize and bully others.
To translate this into terms applicable to adults, replace the word "adults" and "grown-ups" with friends and authority figures.
"Skill 1: Stay Connected
Bullies operate by making their victims feel alone and powerless. Children reclaim their power when they make and maintain connections with faithful friends and supportive adults.
Skill 2: Create Awareness
Sometimes kids feel like adults never do anything--so why even bother to tell them about incidence of bullying? While there are cases when adults fail to acknowledge the seriousness of a situation, it is more often the case that grown-ups are not aware of what is going on. Bullies use relational aggression to inflict their violence in subtle, socially acceptable ways that tend not to register on an adult's radar. Teach your child that it is her job to create awareness. Be clear in teaching kids that telling an adult about bullying is not a mark of cowardice, but rather a bold, powerful move."

Active Consent.
Posted 10 years agoI think it's fucking dumb that we have so many sex related panels at cons but I haven't heard of a single fucking one on active consent.
Convert Your Student Strat or Old 12 String into a Baritone
Posted 10 years agohttp://seattle.craigslist.org/see/m.....223814097.html
If you have an old strat copy that doesn't get played much, or an old 12 string with high action that can't take a normal setup, this is a great way to make these instruments useful and give them a new life. I have done quite a few of these conversions, for customers, for resale and for myself. These baritone guitars are tuned B,E,A,D,F#,B and are great from playing everything from rockabilly to jazz.
For electrics:
I can do this conversion on guitars that have a minimum of a 25.5" scale and a bridge with cast metal saddles. The 25.5" scale is the shortest I can work with, and the cast metal saddles are important because there is some metal working that needs to happen in order for the instrument to intonate correctly. You will also need to have a new nut carved for the instrument.
Electric conversions generally cost between $150 and $200
For acoustics
Older 12 stings that have high action, cannot take a setup but are too cheap to warrant a neck reset are excellent candidates for this. You will want slightly higher action for the baritone setup and the wider neck tends to work really well with the thicker strings. The bridge pin holes will need to be plugged, redrilled, and bridge pins refitted. You will also need a new nut. In some cases modifications may need to be made to the saddle as well.
These conversions generally cost around $160-$250
Don't hesitate to give me a call and ask me any questions you have about whether your guitar might be a good candidate for this. I would love to talk options with you. Phone calls don't cost a thing and my work is guaranteed.
