You and me.
Posted 12 years agoI make it no secret that I like tossing a few bucks to artists I respect to get drawings of my big green 'roobutt. It's probably why you see my mug more often than you can likely stand.
But what makes me happer than getting a picture of a big green kangaroo...is getting a picture of a big green kangaroo with another character.
So no promises or anything, but throw me some ideas what you'd like to see me do with or to you. The best ideas I'll commission...you'll just never know if or when it'll happen.
I've done this before. It's gotten a few good results:

I'm in!!
Posted 12 years agoThanks to all your help, guys! I was voted in as Number 5 of 9 in Kaiju Combat! Woo! Time to start practicing my moves!
I don't know what else to say, so I'll let Michael Scott show my excitement.

Kaiju Combat Inclusion Unsuccessful. ROUND TWO.
Posted 12 years agoI told you that I wouldn't get into the game if I didn't get enough votes. The first round of voting shows that there's an unvocal majority who don't think a giant green kangaroo is good enough for the top three characters in Kaiju Combat.
I super appreciate all the votes I *did* get, but it just wasn't enough to make the cut. That's okay, because Round Two is happening right now. Please, please, please check your email if you helped Kickstart Kaiju Combat or pre-ordered the game off the Sunstone website. You'll find a link that looks exactly like this:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1wB.....w-d1E/viewform
Please choose the next three creatures for the game. And if you think that I should be one of them, even better!
Thanks guys.

KAIJU COMBAT CREATURE VOTE BEGINS MARCH 4.
Posted 12 years agoOkay guys, the big day is upon us. Remember the wonderous character pose done by Matt Frank for Kaiju Combat? Well, we're only three days away from having that be one of the handful of giant creatures to get rendered in 3D and playable in the videogame later this year.

I do need your help -- I'm far from being guaranteed a spot, and the only way I'll be inserted into the game is if the community votes me in. I'll let you know when it's time to vote, but here's the thing: only the people who threw money into the project can cast a vote. Meaning, if you Kickstarted it, AWESOME. You can (and should) vote. http://kaijucombat.com/community/in.....ign-forums.11/
But you can also pre-order the game, and if you do, you'll gain access to the message boards and the voting system: http://sunstone.co/games/kaiju-combat/
My words are chosen carefully: I am in no way insisting you give your vote to me, but I will be ever so thankful if you did. But if you really don't want to see a giant green kangaroo in a videogame, you can throw your votes to the other awesome characters to ensure that I get pushed all the way down to the bottom of the list...essentially guaranteeing that I get benched.

By Me/For Me
Posted 12 years agoI opened up a small can of worms with my last journal.
Look, I know that many of you non-artists use FurAffinity and Weasyl to showcase all the awesome artwork that was drawn for you as commissions and gifts. I get it. The problem: that's really not what this site was engineered for. FA is made, first and foremost, for artist to showcase their own works to the masses.
I have an issue with people uploading other people's works to their own account because there's no cut and dry way for anyone to credit for the pieces they've uploaded. I can't tell you how many times I've found a new account via browsing the submissions and not knowing that the piece I enjoy was not done by them -- it's completely up to the submitter to provide the details of which artist did the piece, and many times they don't provide that info. I'd rather favorite the original piece from the artist and provide feedback in the comments they'll immediately see.
Now, that doesn't excuse the engineers from retooling the site to accommodate the non-artists to have a gallery -- just as a few people mentioned, some artists simply delete submissions all willy-nilly, including artwork paid for by clients of their characters. So, some people do want to have a permanent home for pieces they've paid for.
Honestly, the solution is simple: provide an immediate roadblock at the beginning of a submission that provides a choice:
By Me.
For Me.
Select "By Me" and you continue forward with the standard submission UI.
Select "For Me" and you're faced with additional data: artist, FA account, etc. etc. that appears on the submission and makes it clear that the person who has uploaded it is not the actual artist of the piece.
I will continue to use FA the way I feel it should: I'll only upload art pieces that I had a hand in creating, and favorite the ones that were made for me. The exception is, of course, the scraps section as the only way you can have a profile image is if you upload the piece as a standard FA submission and flag it as a "scrap." I always found this a poor implementation of a feature.

Weasyl thingie.
Posted 12 years agoSo I got one of those Weasyl thingies just cuz they opened it up to everyone. I'm not going anywhere -- I've established myself here and I'm sticking around. I just wanted to see what they're doing differently and if they're making it worth anyone's while to jump ship.
The one thing I want fixed on Fur Affinity is addressed on Weasyl, but it's handled awfully: art submissions that you didn't draw.
FA doesn't restrict people from uploading stuff that they didn't draw, so the site is flooded with duplicates: the artist submits a picture they drew, but so does the person that commissioned it and/or the person who owns the character. Weasyl attempts to fix this by making collections -- basically they allow the artist to link other Weasyl users if they're in the picture so that commissioners don't feel the need to upload.
But sorry...if the artist doesn't do it, the other users can't link their name to the picture. Instead, they have to send them a note and poke them to do it if they want to have that picture added to their collection. How awkward and inconvenient.
So nice attempt at addressing the issue, but...not far enough.
Plus there's nothing really going on there, so I'm not gonna branch out.

Give a compliment, get a compliment
Posted 12 years agoThe internet's too negative these days. I need to combat the vibe, today especially.
So here's the deal: say something nice about me, and I'll say something nice about you. The more sincere you are, the more sincere I'll be. (It'll help if I actually know who you are, but I guess that'll be the challenge for me.)
Go!

Further Confusion 2013
Posted 13 years agoI honestly can't believe it's coming up next (next) weekend. I don't think I'm ready for it.
Yes, I'll be there.
If you don't see me in the green, I'll likely be helping
teaselbone at his table on my free time.
I'm not going to do a meme simply because I'll *tell* you what you can do or not do, in person.
Just don't be creepy and we'll get along swimmingly!

The Rooooooo-meister.
Posted 13 years agoI've been around the block a few times, I've seen people come and go in this fandom. It happens a lot, and it's not that hard to understand that someone's just grown tired of something about this community.
But darn it, I'm not gonna let someone like
roo-meister sneak away so easily.
This guy I can confidently call, without sounding like an egotistical celebrity or something, my biggest fan. The guy spoiled me rotten over the last decade and seems to like the idea of a giant green kangaroo. He's even brought to life a giant kangaroo gal that I'm, ahem, fond of...

So
roo-meister, if you're gonna escape, you're gonna have to get past this roo. *nod*
Give that guy a shout on his page...he deserves recognition!

...until some grinch decided to steal a somewhat expensive and hard to replace item from me last night.
Two things:
A. I'm the one that's supposed to play the grinch, what with my green streak and all...
B. Who would dare steal from someone several times bigger than they are?
Anyway, I'm sad...but it's just "stuff" and I'll get over it.
NOW CHEER ME UP, DAMMIT.

A quick thank you!
Posted 13 years agoThe Kaiju Combat kickstarter is a success! The project has been funded, and I do thank everyone here for jumping to the game's rescue to help give it a community jolt! It's not my project -- I'm just loaning my goofy likeness -- but I'm sure the designer appreciates all that you did to get the game off the ground.
Now comes the fun of hoping I have enough community votes to get in as an actual fighter -- I may have a character page and concept art for the project, but if the Kaiju Combat forum members don't care for a giant green kangaroo, I won't get in through the front door. Macroceli -- er, I mean Macrosaurus -- is a shoe-in. He's like the game's cover boy.
Wish me luck! And if you did fund, I'll let you know when the character votes are coming up.

90 PERCENT THERE!!!
Posted 13 years agoGuys, this is amazing. I've been harassing you for more than a week now to kick into the Kickstarter for Kaiju Combat. And it's slightly less than a week to go and we're almost 90 percent to the goal.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....fighting-onlin
Naturally my promotion of this i all for very selfish reasons: I'm in consideration as a character for this giant monster fighting game.
https://kaijucombat.wiki.zoho.com/Duncan.html
Yes, I said "consideration." The way the character selection works for the first round is that they'll open up the Designer forums and put all the "ready to go" characters up to a vote. The top 8 or 9 characters move on to become combatants, while the rest sit on the sidelines waiting for the next round of voting.
So two things:
1) If you haven't kicked in yet, PLEASE DO. 20 bucks gets you a copy of the PC game when it comes out, as well as access to the message boards where you'll vote on the first roster of giant monsters.
2) If you have kicked in more than five bucks, please make sure you register for the message boards so you can vote on the first roster of characters.
So A) I want this kickstarter to pass its goal as far as possible (more money means bigger dev budget and potentially better game), and B) I want to be in the first round of fighters!
Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease support the game! Please?

Kick in for a green 'roo!!
Posted 13 years agoFor the past few months I've been working behind the scenes with the designer of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters and Rampage: World Destruction on his next videogame project: Kaiju Combat.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....fighting-onlin
This game is planned to be a design sequel of his previous Godzilla PlayStation/Xbox/GameCube games without the expensive license. Which means more creative freedom and even better, a more versatile roster of fighters.
Enter: Duncan, KaijuRoo.
Yep, I'm offering up my likeness to appear in the game as a kick-ass giant monster fighter. that'll take down strange and ginormous beasts from all over the galaxy.
http://kaijucombat.wiki.zoho.com/Duncan.html
And this is where you come in. The game needs your help if it's going to come to life. A small pledge of anything as little as a dollar will help the project along, but there are tiers that'll really get this project off the ground.
I'm pretty certain that if and when the game comes to fruition I'll be in the starting line-up because I'm just that awesome.
But to be candid, it's not a guarantee: first the game needs to hit its Kickstarter goal. That's the important thing. And that's where you can really help this happen.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....fighting-onlin
Please click on that link and pledge as little or as much as you can. 15 bucks guarantees a copy of the game when it's completed next year. Cheap as chips.
Remember, Kickstarter doesn't take your pledged funds until the minimum kick-in is hit -- which is a good thing if you feel uncertain that the project will ever hit its goal. If the unfortunate happens, if not enough pledges come in by the deadline, no money exchanges hands and the project goes away. That's bad for the project, sure, but good for the consumer.
Second, I need to be voted into the game. With your pledge comes access to the message boards, and in a few days the boards are going to open a voting system where Kickstarter pledgers can vote for the characters they want to see in the starting line-up.
If I don't get enough votes, I sit on the sidelines until the next round of votings. If I don't get voted in during these rounds, I'll never make an appearance, so I do need you to do what you can! It would be absolutely amazing and a dream come true to appear in a videogame, and it would mean a whole lot if you could do what you can to help me make this a reality.
Plus, I'm sure it'd be fun for you to control me like your own personal giant puppet.

Step two: profit!
Posted 13 years agoHere's an idea: furry art liquidator. For artists who got shafted by commissioners who didn't pay up. Swoop in, buy the commissions for pennies on the dollar. Something's better than nothing, right?
Now, how do you make money on the half-drawn winged foxies and uncolored doggies...

Giant Green Kangaroo Needs Your Help
Posted 13 years agoSo a few months ago I pimped out an awesome Kickstarter that ultimately failed due to a lack of marketing foresight. Today, that Kickstarter has been rebooted with a fresh insurgence of funds, and a full-blown backing by yours truly.
The Kickstarter: Kaiju Combat, a giant monster videogame that's an unofficial follow-up to the console Godzilla games on the PS2/Xbox/GameCube/Wii...and even more unofficially a follow-up to Rampage: Total Destruction.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....fighting-onlin
Quietly in the background I've been working with the designer, and if this Kickstarter actually happens there's a good chance you'll be able to play as me. There's an even better chance you'll be able to play as a feral
macroceli, so there's that too.
I've been putting up with a lot of crap from Godzilla fans on the Kaiju Combat forums who think a giant green kangaroo is "illogical", "stupid", "silly", "retarded" and all sorts of not-very-fun criticisms. I say to hell with those guys, and I would love it if you guys could jump in, support the kickstarter -- even the bare minimum. Then, with the power of your typey-type get on the forums and support me.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....fighting-onlin
Even if the Kickstarter succeeds, there's really no guarantee that I'll be fully represented in videogame form since it's all down to a community vote on which "monsters" are fleshed out as playable ones. But I'm hoping I have enough of a fanbase to have the ballot box stuffed in my favor.
I support this Kickstarter even without the guarantee. There should be more giant monster videogames, and this is a great start.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....fighting-onlin
Thanks guys.

Ask Me Anything
Posted 13 years agoI'll answer every one, but I reserve the right to be as bafflingly cryptic if I don't like the question.
So, that term...
Posted 13 years agoI get called "popufur" a surprising amount, and I'm not always sure if the individual calling me that is saying that lovingly or spitefully. If it's lovingly, then stop...cuz it's a silly, awkward term. Hell, anything with "fur" replacing a part of an existing word is pretty dumb.
I'll admit I'm "well known" and "recognized" in the fandom. Whether that's a good or bad thing I guess depends on the situation.
I'll boil my recognition down to one specific: I get drawn. A LOT. I don't hide the fact that I love seeing myself. And while this is a generalization, I think the "spiteful" popufur name-callers probably want the same thing.
So here's a tip: SUPPORT ARTISTS. If you have expendable income, throw an artist you admire a few bones to get yourself drawn. That's easy. And this is a social network of art: the more you commission yourself in pictures, the more people will recognize your character. Again, easy.
If you don't have expendable income, DON'T COMPLAIN TO ARTISTS THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD COMMISSION THEM AND THEN DON'T THROW THEM MONEY. Your desire to commission them does not outweigh the actual money you'd give them to have it done.
I don't openly announce which drawings I get as commissions and the ones I get as gifts, simply because that's up to the artist to say whether they did it for fun or for funds. I certainly don't want to overwhelm an artist with moochers if they drew me because they wanted to. "But you drew Duncan for free!!" is the last thing I want artists to have to deal with.
The point of this post: SUPPORT ARTISTS WITH YOUR MONIES, and you can be as popufur as me.
I'll admit I'm "well known" and "recognized" in the fandom. Whether that's a good or bad thing I guess depends on the situation.

I'm older!
Posted 13 years agoThere's no hiding it, the "secret" is out...today's my birthday!
But I'm also not gonna hide the fact that I love birthdays! I maybe older than like half the people here, but I don't feel it...I'm an ageless giant kangaroo. Green is stronger than gray!
Thank you so much to those who've already given me a shout-out or a visual treat...I adore and appreciate any and all effort into making this day feel special for me!

Free art raffle!
Posted 13 years agoI don't do them. Or rather, I don't do the ones that require you to create a journal advertising just to get a chance to be a part of the "free art raffle."
I'm all for the social networking aspect of FA. But I'm not going to use my journal to advertise everything that comes along. It's already difficult getting people to click over to this thing, so I'm only gonna promote stuff that I truly believe in.
Getting free art's awesome from a consumer's point of view...don't get me wrong. But I'd rather support artists financially whenever I can, and I'll do everything I can to throw folks over to the ones I think are amazing.
But spamming a free art raffle ain't gonna do it for me.

Bears, bunnies, bad-ass trailer
Posted 13 years agoI have no idea what the game's like, but I like the style of the teaser:
Which one of you is responsible. Fess up.

Who's next?
Posted 13 years agoThere's gotta be a bunch of folk out there I haven't tormented yet. Once again it's time to up my game.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm not gonna torment everyone, and I'm certainly not gonna cause trouble with someone who's expecting it. I'm fickle. But feel free to drop your contact info either down below or in a note and we'll see how it goes.

I certainly can be! Maybe a good kind of bad?
