Awesome ride. Let's go again!
Posted 15 years agoTo me, birthdays are like standing in queue for a brand new rollercoaster. It's an agonizingly long wait, slowly creeping along in the corral, the anticipation building as the line gets shorter and shorter. Until finally you're next in line, the rush starting to build as you wait for your turn at the ride. And then you sit down...
One minute and 43 seconds of wild adrenaline-enfused thrills, the ride's over and it's right back to the back of the line where the wait starts over again.
Some rides aren't as good as you'd expect them to be. Most times, they live up to -- or far exceed -- your expectations. And on that rare occasion the ride operator is generous enough to hit that button and send you off on a double-serving.
This year, the operator definitely gave that button another smack.
You guys and gals are awesome. Big green 'roos don't deserve anywhere near as much attention as you give them.

Eurofurence 16 Was a Hit!
Posted 15 years agoNow that my body's recovered from the time change I feel I can put together decent enough thoughts to talk about this year's Eurofurence.
Once again, the convention rocked. If you can afford a flight to Germany, I highly recommend putting this con in your "to do" list.
I will admit that the new venue -- a four star hotel in downtown Magdeburg -- just doesn't quite have the same charm and character as the Ringberg Hotel high atop the mountain in Suhl. But the EF staff made it work for the most part, and will no doubt take that first year experience to ensure that EF 17 -- also at the Maritim in Magdeburg -- will be even better.
And even though I say "Ringberg is better," what makes the new venue great is the location: there's only so much you can do in the hotel, so it's wonderful to be able to stretch your legs during the inevitable downtime. Don't like the inflated prices of the hotel food? You've not only got excellent German, Italian, Asian, and, yes, American restaurants right next door, but there's also shopping across the street -- a supermarket ensured that snacks and drinks were right at the ready.
Hopefully Maritim will finally catch on to the fact that there were far cheaper food and drink options right outside their door and do what it can to keep con goers on-site for all their drunken mayhem needs.
For those who miss the Hotel Ringberg or wanted to find out why the EF hotel for the past three years was held in high regard, a semi-organized party made its way on the Monday after the con closed to Suhl. This, I guarantee, will be an open invite tradition that will continue until this gathering will grow too big for the Ringberg to handle. It's so much fun to simply hang out and unwind in the lobby lounge, enjoying the company of those you just saw a few hours ago.
Shoutouts: Thanks to
coyotesnack for helping find a place for my big green butt a week before the show, and
kralle for supplying said space. Thank you
Nachtfuchs for stuffing me into his jeep for the three hour roadtrip to Magdeburg, and
tanidareal for letting me torment her cats. Azrael and Jumpy, thank you for helping myself and Gideon down off the Ringberg mountain, and get through the language barrier in Suhl. Cheetah, Loewi, and all the rest of the Germans that put up with me for two weeks or bought me drinks...thank you as well!

Posted 15 years agoSimilar to my previous journal (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1257327/) where I asked you to tell me what to do (which spawned this drawing: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3914500 (and I still need to get drawing number 2 done), I'm throwing this out there to anyone who actually reads my journal:
You. Me. In a picture. What's happening?
If your character were face to face with a giant green kangaroo, for better or worse, what's the situation?
Get creative but keep it clean. Taildangling's great but hey, I'm looking for a little variety here.
The most interesting and/or most creative ideas will get commissioned on my dime.
Go!

Posted 15 years agoEvery day, Fur Affinity goes criminally undersupported with examples of large characters grabbing smaller characters by their tails who are then hoisted relatively harmlessly off the ground.
Support Proposition Y01NK and encourage more artists to draw this highly demanding subject. In time, we will get Taildangling added to the list of specialty tags on Fur Affinity.

Posted 15 years agoWhat would a Macro reality show be like?
I can imagine an "America's Got Talent/X-Factor" style competition where up and coming giants show off their stuff to the panel of classic beasts (Lizzie, George and Ralph) as they decide who will join their ranks in the next Rampage.

A call for help
Posted 15 years agoSo with the advent of Fur Affinity, I've pretty much steered away from updating my Macrophile ego page -- I mean, what's the need to archive in one place commissions and gifts if I can simply favorite them here for easy access?
Well, laziness gets the best of me: I forget that artists come and go, and so do their art pieces. Looking back at all the works I've favorited over the years, there are many, many, MANY "Submission has been removed" blank pages.
Now, most of the removed submissions were likely kangaroo pictures I just really liked, but there are a few images out there that were either commissions or gifts, and I was too lazy to simply right click and save locally.
So if you can do me a favor: if you've ever drawn anything for me, can you please email me as high a res version as you can muster?
My email: biggreenkangaroo[at]gmail.com
Even if you think I already have it, it's good to be redundant. Thanks guys!

Suggestion for Link of the Day:
Posted 15 years agoRequest!
Posted 15 years agoI'm going to go against everything I hate in the fandom and...beg for free art. So I'm prepared to face the firing squad.
But at least hear me out!
One of my earliest macro memories is watching the end of this cartoon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1LO6KD3j9E#t=6m00s
(my apologies if Time Warner pulls the video by the time you read this)
Perhaps this cartoon is where my taildanging fixation comes from, too!
Now my request:
I would love to see pictures involving Duncan pulling a BIIIIIIIG version of your character by the tail in a similar/exact pose to these framegrabs:
http://duncanroo.macrophile.com/fun.....f/tomjerry.jpg
With me in Tom's role, and your character in Jerry's. Duncan's usually grabbing tails...just kind of makes sense that he grabbed one without realizing how big the person on the other end was before he pulled.
I'd love to see how many variations I can get. I won't be offended at all if I don't get any, though...but I will totally love you forever if you find it an amusing scenario for your character.

Cheap macro commissions!
Posted 15 years agoThought I'd pimp my friend
tyrnn who's looking to fill up a sketchbook of a variety of drawings for 10 bucks a piece.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1383796/
His specialty is macro, and if you're one of the odd ones who's actually watching me, that means you're probably into that as well.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1383796/
tyrnn is one of the few people I can say has been improving every single day he's been drawing. It's been awesome watching his style evolve and expand, and I really think he's at the point where he's well worth the commission money.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1383796/
Do me proud and throw him some challenging commission ideas. I'll guarantee that you'll get your ten bucks worth, no question!

Soda Roo Drama? No wai.
Posted 15 years agoI've been disconnected from the world for the past 24 hours flying out to Australia. But I hope I misheard this: there's currently drama about the Soda Roos going around?
What I heard: people have picked up on the meme and have been drawing up their own versions of soda kangaroos, and the person/persons who kicked it off is getting uppity because other people have run with their own ideas based on it. And, again, I hope this is just a rumor, but as I heard it, to make a soda roo into a suit you have to get accepted from the original soda roo owner first.
As in, there's an approval process now for the once awesome meme going around. Instead of soaking in the flattery that what's been created has taken upon a life of its own, they've gone Hollywood.
Here's the problem:
The sodas? Intellectual properties. Even the meme starter probably didn't go to Dr. Pepper to make sure it was okay to make a kangaroo fursuit based on the beverage...or even name it that. It's an playful homage, but if Dr. Pepper didn't want to play nice the ol' Dr. Pepper kangaroo could end up seeing a cease and desist note showing up in his/her pouch.
It's a great idea, absolutely, but c'mon, to think you own the rights to soft drink-based kangaroos? How far will it go? If I wanted to create a red/white Budweiser roo, that should be fine, right? It's not a soda. Maybe a Goldschlager roo, with gold flakes all over him.
I hope I'm wrong, but knowing the fandom, if there's the potential for drama...it'll happen. Let memes run their course, it's pretty awesome being a part of one.

Posted 15 years agoPlease don't nominate Duncan for the Fursuit tournament thing that's going on now.
I'm super content with having a recognizable suit that people seem to enjoy interacting with. I don't need to be in a competition where I'm ranked against hundreds of others.
I tried it once a couple of years ago and got knocked out early, so I have no interest in seeing what would happen now, what with all the newer and prettier suits that have come out since then...
Thanks!
(feel free to nominate
duncanthedog though)

Posted 15 years agoSo I feel like commissioning someone for something...different. I'm never any good at coming up with ideas, which is why I'm coming to you.
I don't care how outlandish the idea: reply with what you'd like to see me do. Or what you'd like to see happen to me. Good or bad, doesn't matter...as long as it's a relatively clean (meaning no sex/naughty bits).
When the list gets long enough, I'll manually pick an idea that's appealing and commission (i.e. pay) an artist to do it. I'll also have one of the ideas randomly selected, and get that commissioned out as well.
Thanks guys, should be fun!

Plus the fact that I've been in that area before and I know there's a ton of fun stuff to do. Photo ops galore!
