Look, I'm no artist. I might've dabbled in the sketchy-sketches years ago, but I lost that creative spark well before I found the fandom. But to those just starting out:

Learn to draw BEFORE you start drawing porn. Geez.

There's nothing worse than seeing crooked, four sided boobs and dongs drawn by people on FA with the artistic skills of an eight year old in special ed class, and trying to pull it off as a serious attempt.

Nobody's going to get turned on by rigid and awkward furry stickfigures with ears and tail "getting busy," and if you do...well, I'll sell you a commission. Duncan-drawn porn, 2000 dollars.

You know, I've been called egotistical...and rightfully so. I mean, I buy commissions from artists to draw giant green kangaroos. Hey, I really enjoy being drawn!

But this just takes the cake:

I saw the ad banner on the left side of my screen for an Arabian Nights calendar. I clicked on it because I went to Eurofurence and that was the theme of the convention, so I thought maybe it was a compilation of photos from the photoshoot there.

No. No it wasn't.

It's a compilation from the photoshoot at EF15, but of ONE character. 13 different poses of the same fursuit in front of the same background. The only added spice: special guest stars with that fursuit. Wow.

I have no problems with anyone making money in this fandom, but consider your market and the message you send when you do something like that. You really must be into your character to expect 13 entire months of attention from consumers, for a whoppingly beefy 25 dollar price.

Oy.

 flamedrake is fun to torment. Incredibly fun to torment. So I couldn't waste the opportunity to really push his buttons at his first US furry con.

I commissioned  teaselbone for a very specific design that I could put on t-shirts that myself,  macroceli and  ozkangaroo would wear around the convention.

If I could accurately explain the look on  flamedrake's face when he first saw  macroceli's shirt, and then my shirt a few seconds later, I would do so...but I cant. That look of horror-slash-embarrasement-slash-joy is just damn near impossible to describe.

That, right there, made the con. It's great when a plan comes together so well that it's better than you expect.

Incidentally, I've given all rights for  teaselbone to alter the design to accomodate any interested character. So if you want to see your (or a friend) in a belly for use on a shirt, give him a poke.

Anyway, I hate this photo meme. I've always liked the anonymity of the furry fandom. Sometimes I don't WANT to know what the human behind the character looks like...lord knows you guys would definitely be disappointed in seeing mine.

What's worse is the meme encourages the absolute worst photo you can take of yourself. Yeah, not very good PR, people.

So I've been driven off of Fur Affinity for as long as this meme continues.

People who have auto-headers and footers in their FA journals that are like 17,000 times longer than the actual journal text.

Which means that I have to scan through tons of rehashed garbage text of what commissions they're working on or who's their FA crush or why furries suck before I get to the point of the journal post to begin with.

And then when that journal post is sandwiched in between EVEN MORE rehashed, auto-pulled commission/FA crushes/furries suck comments, it's almost impossible to see why I clicked on the journal to begin with.

FA's journal engine already sucks, so don't make it worse by filling in the header/footer fields with unnecessary crap.

Don't tell me who's my favorite! I've got my own tastes, thank you very much! I wouldn't presume to be "everyone's favorite giant green kangaroo," cuz who knows -- maybe someone'll dip Kangaroo Jack in green paint and feed him steroids. Heck, he'd certainly be *my* favorite giant green kangaroo.

I've gotten enough emails/notes recently about why I don't post commissions and gift art to my Fur Affinity account to make a note on my position. So here it is.

I honestly believe that a site like Fur Affinity is for the creators and not for the art whores. The issue comes from people who commission works or request gift artwork and post those pieces to their accounts. According to the for you/from you policy on FA it's perfectly legit, but here's the problem: the creators don't get alerted when their pieces get commented or favorited on the other person's account...so the only way to keep track of all the kudos or criticisms is to constantly poke around all their art on other peoples' accounts who have posted their works.

Plus the fact that there are some commissioners/requesters/artwhores who simply upload to their account without any sort of comment that they weren't the person responsible for the drawing their uploading. I absolutely hate that. I actually have to investigate and research whether I should be watching certain accounts because of awesome pics that have been uploaded...I like the art that's posted to the account, but did this person REALLY do that piece? Let me poke around and see what else they posted...

This issue can be resolved with a simple addition to the submission tool of Fur Affinity: when you first click "submit," you should go to a screen that has two check boxes: "This art is by me," or "This art was made for me." This way the database of the site can make it easy for users to sort who are the creators and who are not.

So, yeah. That's my stance. If you draw something for me, please upload it to your account!

It's hard to believe that each birthday that comes is better than the one before it, but you guys manage to make it so. Thank you so much for all the notes and shouts and posts, they kept coming in and only lasted a couple hours since the FA engine can only display so many!
