I've been doing videos a lot lately
Posted 14 years agoSo in my never ending quest to spread myself as thin as possible, I started getting into making videos.
in the My Little Pony fandom, people take show clips and mash them together with music or splice them into other animation themes. I thought I would try my paw at the music video style of PMV (Pony Music Video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVBx3SbgZlA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqYT3tpvG9Q
These had mixed results. As I liked the songs, I was still learning the tools to make them and it shows.
I then had the idea for a mocking of the old spice commercial.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdd9BoHkdlY
This was better as I used some fan art to toss into the mix, but i also wrote a new script and recorded new vocals, this opened up better creativity in me and a new spark for what I was doing. People also seemed to like it.
So follow a lot of the things going on in the MLP famdom right now and a Fan Fiction called "The Vinyl Scratch tapes" has caught my eye. It's the story of "Radio" being discovered in Equestria. This set my mind to thinking that the radio station would nee Advertising spots. I happen to love me some Radio and I also like the "Sweet Apple Acres" apple farm in the MLP show. So i put 3 and 5 together and came up with this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btSH-8x_OhA
I am pretty proud of this one, and now has been picked up and promoted on "Equestria Daily" blog. the #1 blog out there for MLP news and fan made stuff. I feel a pretty big sense of accomplishment in getting them to recognize it and post it up on their site.
I hope I can keep up the god videos, I have a few ideas for more radio spots for current shops in Ponyville and Canterlot.

Moving again
Posted 14 years agoI am packing up and headed back to San jose from whence I came. The job here in Nevada is just not working out. Yes i know it's a job and some people cant even find that! But after a year of snide comments, back handed bullshit, 6 months on 32 hours instead of the 40 I should be doing it all just comes down to the bullshit meter is just too high.
I am going back to California but NOT with my tail between my legs. I did some pretty fucking good work here and I am proud of it.

Back from Furry Fiesta 2011
Posted 14 years agoBack to work now, it was a very long 5 days between flying last Thursday and then again all day Monday. Between that, the Furry Night Live crew spent two days up til 6 am getting the Show we put on Saturday afternoon good enough to the point we could present it.
I feel we did a good job with our skits and people liked the jokes. I did a spoof of Samurai Delicatessen which was Samurai Fursuit maker. Lots of foam bits and fur flying in that one! We also did a spoof of the Dallas TV show and the All in the Family TV show.
Now it's plans for Califur's FNL show, only have three months to get that together. Oy!

Working on new stuff
Posted 14 years agoSo with the success of the last color piece, I am going to try again! I penciled up a Godiva the Skunk piece last night and I am happy with the pencils. Time to get some copies made and test out some colors.
She is a "Candy Skunk" so her coloring is kinda light chocolate and Beige so the shading may be a real pain but we will see.

Started some color tests
Posted 15 years agoI realized that I have never had this many colors to work with and I'm just going to have to take the plunge. I got a piece of Bristol and made small boxes on it. In each box I have started putting down each color of pencil to see how it looks on the paper I'll be using. I guess you could say i am doing a hand made color test of this paper.
Having been dropped to 32 hours at my job I will have Mondays to get some things and art done so expect more from me soon.

Picked up new pencils
Posted 15 years agoI took a friend to dinner last night as as we got done early, I commented if the local Micheal's arts and crafts was still open or not. So we ran by and they were open so we go in and poke about.
I was looking to see their price on the 132 color set of prismacolor colored pencils, well being "Back to school" time they had a really great 40% off sale going on so I snatched them up!
You cant really beat almost half off on art supplies, and I've never had so many colors to work with. The Casidhe piece only has 2 colors of grey in it, just layered over and over again! I cant wait to try out the new pencils on the final piece.

Progress
Posted 15 years agoA bit of test colorings have been done to the new piece. I broke out the colored pencils for the first time in like...10 years I think. I really was scared of color, still am...but I bought a great book on colored pencil painting and I'm gonna give it a shot. All these tests are on just plain copy paper so once I transfer to actual drawing paper it should look even better. I have like 5 layers of color in some spots and the copy paper just wont hold anymore color. But at least I have a bit of practice and can see where I want to go with it.
Started a new piece
Posted 15 years agoCaside Vixen was tweeting about wanting a picture of her character in shiny latex. I tweeted back "I'll draw that for a dollar!" and she gave me card Blanche to do what I want. I sketched up the preliminary last night and did a little tweaking today. I'll copy it a bunch of times to practice making the latex look like latex. I've never done it before so I am guessing this is gonna take a while to learn.
Some progress
Posted 15 years agoSo with the move to Nevada I have been Way busy ™ but I finally got my art table set up and some of my art supplies and books out. I started to tighten a sketch idea then moved into a new sketch of a white tigress. the small sketch worked up a bit more and I'm cool with it but not the best thing I've ever done.
Once I can get the scanner set up I'll post it.

New Art?!?!? OMBG!
Posted 15 years agoYes, new art from me. (Waits for all the gasping to die down) I'm starting to get over my aversion to trying what other people are doing. Thus you see the Jay Naylor tribute piece i just finished last night. I also think I will stick with pencils for a bit until I get my mind working on art better again. Thank you all for sticking with me, I know it's been an awfully long time. Life has just been throwing me curveballs with the occasional bean ball thrown in for a change of pace.
I am going to school at the moment for CNC machine Technology and these are night classes. I am almost done so here is hoping things turn around very soon for me.

I finally get back to drawing and now!
Posted 17 years agoMy scanner is starting to die, finally. Well it is over 10 years old. I have been keeping it around because it is 11 by 17. BUt last year this company started making the same scanner in USB. So I should break down and get a new one.
A year????? Fuuuuukkkkkkk
Posted 17 years agoYea, my last journal was a year ago. What has happened to me since?
Well, I made a movie, had a gas at FC, Lost my job and been on unemployment for what seems like forever.
My GF moved in with me, got back to motocross racing after rebuilding my dirt bike. Also attended AC for the first time with a full fursuit.
Right now I signed up for CNC machining courses at a local college. It looks like I might even go for an AS. I also may have a job lined up fixing wrecked motorcycles. We will see if that comes through.
I came up with a couple projects for FC this year, but I am keeping them under wraps for a bit. You will know about them soon enough.
I do most of my journaling on Lj, so I need to remember this one and get over here now and then for those that don't read Lj. I apologies for being gone so long.

Burning man life drawing
Posted 18 years agoI hit the life models camp at Burning man and cranked out a bunch of 5 and 10 minute sketches. I've put up the three best ones here. Also found some old art I did way long ago. It just proves to myself that I have come a long way.
Wow, a thousand page views
Posted 18 years agoI know it doesn't seem like many, but I never thought it would be that popular.
I have a 1000 commemorative drawing in my head. As soon as I get my art room settled I'll put it down on paper. Work has me running ragged right now and it's a bit tiring when I get home.
But the art room will be finished this weekend and I'll be sketching again!
YAY!

I'm still not dead
Posted 18 years agoBut I'm moved into my new place now. nice big townhouse to call my own, just me and my cat and my bikes and my art.
Speaking of which, I found more stuff to scan while emptying boxes. I got my scanner all set up and then found that the custom power supply I bought for it (Expensive at that) had it's custom, interchangeable tip get lost in the move. I have no idea where it is and the scanner is junk without it.
I'[ll have to go back and look at my old place and see if it fell off when I was unhooking everything. If not, then it's another very expensive power supply or I buy the USB version of this scanner that is now out.

I am also in the middle of trying to find my own apartment/duplex/condo and thats been chewing up weekends.
I'll have some new stuff soon.
Thanks for sticking with me.

In case it wasnt clear
Posted 18 years agoThe Fur-la-dance is an MP3 audio file.
I just drew the little guy to have a piece of art to go with it, instead of a bland box that says "music"

Is the pencil artist a second class citizen?
Posted 18 years agoI see a lot of wonderful art here. Mostly in color. I also have NO idea what "OC" is other then some program where two artist can kit bash an image together I think.
I work in pencil, I used to ink stuff but my ink talents have fallen by the wayside. I do need to pick it up again and will soon, but in the mean time I get this feeling that just doing a pencil drawing, no matter how good it is, will just get a collective *YAWN* from the gallery.
Is this the case? I've seen some incredible pencil works out there. DO you as an apreciator of all things artistic usully blow by pencils as "unfinished"?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Feeling a little better
Posted 18 years agoThe Arctic pic made me feel a little better. It came out rather ok for the time invested in it. I could have set it aside, taken tracing paper to it and redone it again to take care of come glareing anatomy mistakes but it was all for fun.
I still have the wet t-shirt idea on the drawing board that needs to be finished.
I also have a couple of pics in my head that are really standard erotic pose fare. Sometimes I just get the feeling that doing a pose that everyone has done before seems like not trying hard enough. But thats really bunk, everyone needs to draw something and if thats what is in your head then draw it. Sure it may be derivitive, but I like to work from magazine pictures. I dont blanently copy any other artists poses.
I'm still not back to the point where I can draw poses out of my head and make them look right, so I use the inexpensive pose magazines (FHM, Maxxim, Penthouse, Playboy) to get an overall idea of pose. Then I will move the character a bit on angle. Like take a frontal shot pose and turn it to 3/4 view in my head.
