Art Notice - Expanding, trying new things, etc
Posted 11 years agoNot so much a journal but more of a notice: I have finally decided after about two years on the site here to start expanding the kind of arts that I'll make. That means I'm going to start drawing and painting pictures that are not for all ages. And yes I admit, booze was partially responsible for my choice.
I felt it was right to at least get this out there before a picture someone isn't expecting were to show up in my gallery.
Anyways, I'm going to try a few different coloring styles to branch out again, and I may in fact pick up Paint Tool SAI this weekend, I would like to look at some preview videos and reviews a bit more before I commit.

FWA 2014 - Fun times and observations
Posted 11 years agoJust got back from FWA and had a really great time with all my friends! Has it been one full year already that I began going to conventions? For me last year this was the bar that was set when I began going to conventions. I’d compare AC to FWA, FAU to FWA, and even FurFright to FWA, because FWA 2013 was an amazing experience. So now for FWA 2014, how did it go and what to expect for next time:
This time we flew out of Bradley airport instead of LaGuardia, and going out of the big local airport went much more smoothly than going to and from New York. For once, air travel was painless and went on without any kind of gotchas or hitches.
xxxbladewolfxxx and I landed on Wednesday and toured the city a little bit, going to our favorite Sushi stop Yumi Yumi. Still amazing as ever, the food was awesome. :D We then got some sodas and spirits, snacks, etc. We got the room prepped, I drew some great arts that I’ll ink/tablet up and put on here later. Thursday everyone arrived and I met up with Sky, Keelah, Christian, Gear-Paw, and Madshy. Everyone was awesome and the bestest peoples to spend a weekend with. :D
The con itself for the weekend was again great! The convention floor space was well thought-out and planned. A few things moved like Artist Alley and the headless lounges but the regular Dealers Room was the same. The dance raves were awesome! The overall vibe of all the con attendees inside the hotel were happy, the suiters as always were a blast, and I was happy to be the goofy crazy Ruskie Dezik husky. ^___^ The game room again was awesome and crazy. Loved to take a few quick glances at the big League of Legends tournament they had.
So the convention on the convention floors was again great. That being said you can probably tell I’m leaving something out there. The convention -> on the convention floors <- was great. The hotel… well the hotel elevator problem still persisted. 70 floors and there were 8 out of 10 small mid-sized elevators operational. Yeah, it was elevator-con again. Not as bad as last year, but overall the accommodations with the exception of the elevators were nice.
This time however, I myself was approached by nine Atlanta denizens asking for money during the 5 days/4 nights we were there. How bad was it? Bad. Very bad. Wednesday – Was approached by a guy asking for subway money at the booze store. Thursday – On the way to the Waffle House a block away, asking for money to eat, and another guy on the way out of the Waffle House. Friday – A man came into the hotel saying his car got booted, and was willing to give us his car keys and phone as collateral for 10 or 12 dollars. …yeah… Saturday – Another person approached us for cash near the Hard Rock restaurant. Sunday – During the dead dog dance, I was outside with other fellow suiters, and three people came up to us all asking for money. The hotel actually had two Atlanta PD officers standing guard outside the main entrance. Monday – On the subway, a guy went train car to train car asking for money. Side note, as we went to the airport to drop Sky off, there was a car fire off the right side of the train in a parking lot.
Every day we were asked for money. Not only that but once the city found out a convention was at the Westin, street performers began to mingle nearby the hotel, and at one point they were performing in front of it along with the rest of the suiters and con attendees. What the hell happened to Atlanta? o___o I don’t remember anyone panhandling us last year. I felt terrible averting my eyes and looking away but holy hell, obviously it’s a major problem and it didn’t seem like the city was doing anything to stop it or help. If nine Atlanta locals came up to me for money, I can only imagine how worse it was for others who spent a lot of time outside.
It just felt like Atlanta didn’t have the same good vibe as it did last year. Again the convention was great, I had a great time, but just the excessive panhandling was just a big shock for me :-/ Next year it wouldn't surprise me if the con security measures are going to be extensively beefed up.

At FWA!! Doing sketches for furs who find me!
Posted 11 years agoAbout to kick off FWA again! And I think I feel confident on my drawing skills that I'll do sketches for anyone who finds me :)
I'm going to be Dezik for the weekend so if you can pick me out from the crowd I'll do $2 sketches, maybe even more!

Kicking it into high gear
Posted 12 years agoAlright I need to seriously kick my own ass and get going on some projects I have just sitting in my sketchbook waiting to be made. Seriously. I'm sick of doing a painting and then just burning out for the next three weeks. I want to be able to take an idea, sketch it, tablet it, color and detail it in a few days or less, so the material is always fresh.
SO, self imposed challenge: I'm going to do a few quicky pics. Lines, Flat color, SIMPLE detail coloring without going too far. The goal is to finish each picture in three days or less. READY GO. *draws*
EDIT: Blah. Coloring is next. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12064397/

Why did FurFright have to end?!
Posted 12 years agoNow that it’s been a few days since FurFright, I've been able to collect my thoughts. What an awesome weekend I had! :D And I’d never have thought there would be a con like this only 20 or so minutes from my place. I spent four days with awesome people and met new peoples, as well as get reacquainted with quite a few people I haven’t seen in years, including some people I’d have never thought be involved in the fandom before.
I was sad to see it end and Post Con Depression really stung me this time, even worse than FWA or AC. D: Well I can’t wait for the next FurFright in 2014! =D ....blegh why did it have to end?! D:
Art news, finished a painting! After four weeks of working on it… v__v; Yeah I've thought about this, I need to change my coloring style, or something, as it’s starting to bug me that it’s taking weeks or months to finish one piece. I’m actually sketching a lot in my sketchbooks and have a whole plethora of doodles and things that I’d like to make, and for a painting project to eat up so much time just burns me out. X-/ So I need to figure something out. I’d like to work on a sketch for a few hours sure, maybe a few sketches to flesh out an idea, but then once I commit to it then a day or two most to draw and flat color it, and then two or three days tops to detail it. Having a faster turn-around would perhaps keep the work fresh and inspiring, instead of going on 4 to 6 weeks detailing one thing and spinning my wheels.
As part of the sketches and whatnot, I have some ideas for possible characters I’d like to develop. What though I don’t know yet, but I’m sure it’ll come to be in due time.

To prepare for the future... the aftermath
Posted 12 years agoAlright well, in April I posted a cryptic journal entry about how I was planning on entering into an agreement on better positioning myself financially. It's now come to pass. It's done, it's over, it's happened. And I'm pissing my pants with Buyer's Remorse. X(
My place of residence has a large mortgage on it, and with the housing rates as they were in April from when I originally bought the place, I wanted to find a better deal and lessen the duration of it. I absolutely hate being in debt, and if I do go into debt I want to get out of it as fast as possible. So long story short, I entered an agreement with the bank, and offered to put a lot down into it in order to get the rate as low as possible. And it worked out fine. :) Problem is, I'm now three hairs shy of broke and in a very fragile financial state. :( Running the numbers, if things stay as they are then I'll be okay as long as nothing bad happens. Any sudden big expense like... god forbid I get into a car accident or my job is suddenly in jeopardy, or anything else like that, then I'm in serious trouble.
It's led to having a few sleepless nights. :-/ And it's been a constant mobius strip in my head! The rates shot right back up in June so I got in at just the right moment... but it's a ton of cash that I parted with to get it to work that I'd kinda like to have. But had I not and instead waited, it'd be more cash I'd need to spend. So I pounced on it when I saw the getting was good. I just hope it doesn't turn into a "leapt before I looked" thing.
Other news, I signed up on Facebook finally! :) Now to add and post more stuff about my life on the interwebs! 8D

Big time PCD
Posted 12 years agoI WANT TO GO BACK TO ANTHROCON!
I had so much fun in Pittsburgh that it really hit me when I was back at my job sitting in my greyish-blue cubicle. I wanted to get over it before I put my thoughts about the whole experience into words.
xxxbladewolfxxx wrote about the whole trip here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4823618/
The road trip there was awesome. The hotel was awesome. The convention was absolutely awesome. Pittsburgh was amazing. Everyone was happy, waving hands, saying hi, taking pictures. Everyone. Every single person in that city had an awesome weekend. I have never seen an entire city be so welcoming and... happy! The food was awesome. The company I was with were awesome. Everything was awesome. The rave on Saturday night without a doubt was THE best one I've ever been to in my life. No club I've been to was able to do what the DJs that Saturday night put on.
The awesome
inuyoko allowed me to be Yoko in the parade and Duke's dance. I had an absolute blast doing it. :D
.......I REALLY WANT A FURSUIT! D= In March I commissioned
artslave for a Eredran dragon partial. I know she's really really busy but after suiting at FWA and AC, now I'm really eager to continue doing it because it really is a lot of fun. :D
And I think I'm finally going to cave. I'm going to need a Facebook account to keep track of all the amazing people's I've met these past couple of months. I'm going to sign up first chance I get.
(UPDATE) Well maybe not. Apparently the sign up form doesn't like "Dragon" as a last name. I was hoping I could use an alias name rather than my real name but... well if it doesn't like it then blegh on them. I seriously don't want my real name to appear anywhere on Facebook. o.=.o Seriously. I'm already required to use my real name for my racing fun at iRacing.com. Anonymity is a dwindling sacred thing these days.
Well I have a few art projects that I'd like to get done now to reflect on what an awesome time I had. :D It'll keep me busy for the next couple days/weeks.

In right under the wire
Posted 12 years agoI completely forgot to pre-register for AC coming up, I was so busy with the work load at my job that it completely skipped past me. So last night after getting out of the Superman Man Of Steel movie with
, I went on the AC website on my phone to find out that the pre-register deadline had ended 15-July at 11:59 PM. We got out of the movie 16-July 12:15 AM. D:
I saw the registration link on the left, and when I went into it, the registration form was still working. I went for it, registered, and got in right under the wire. Around 1 AM, the registration page was updated to read "pre-registrations are now closed".
I cut it reaaaaallllly close. X) I'm very thankful it worked out. *sighs relief*

Commission Information
Posted 12 years agoAfter doing trades and gift paintings for a while, I’d like to open up commission work for anyone interested. Because I’m relatively new, prices will be low, and I’ll see how it goes.
My art style is a traditional painterly aesthetic, rather than blended gradient illustrations or hard-edge cell shading. I mainly use Corel Painter 12 to create a simulated traditional painted piece, and can be done with Digital Oils, Acrylics, Pastel, Gouache, or Airbrush, Sponges, and so on. I like the spontaneity of letting the brush strokes build up the painting and give it a bit of character and personality.
With regards to what I’ll make, please note: I reserve the right to not do something if I’m not comfortable with a requested piece.
What you’ll receive is a large resolution high-quality PNG file via email, as well as any sketches and flat-color under-painting work in the creation of the piece. I also do real Pastel & Charcoal paintings on Mi-Teintes Pastel Paper, but these pieces I have to transport and send via mail, along with all the unforeseen postage fees, shipping, handling, and any extra stuff involved. Please ask me if you’re interested.
I’ll accept PayPal and Checks. Cash is a bad idea through the mail, but if I’m going to meet you in person at a meet or convention, then sure.
Commission Information and Pricing can all be found at the Commission Information tab on my front page. Direct Link: http://www.furaffinity.net/commissions/eredran/

Out of Hibernation
Posted 12 years agoBlegh I got busy with life again. I have a really bad habit of vanishing when things begin to get tight and deadlines arise at my job. This is something I ranted about all the time in my dA journal entries, and ten years later I still haven't gotten better at being on more often. So no remorse for me! It's just something I really need to kick myself about. Vanishing = Bad.
So I have a ton of messages to go through :-x And I plan on going through all of them!
That said, I'm going to open Commissions! Just Badges for now. I want to see how this goes before I start accepting larger requests.

To prepare for the future...
Posted 12 years agoWell it’s time for one of those Journal entries where I spew all the worrisome crap going on in my mind for all of the interwebs to see in an attempt to seek some kind of solace. Not entirely sure how that works, but hey! It makes for good entertainment.
And with that, I’ll serve up some good drama!
I hate to be cryptic here, but I've been ‘advised’ to prepare for the future. What that means is in order for me to prepare for the future, I’m about to piss away almost all my entire life savings of cash in an attempt to *ahem* better position myself financially in the current fiscal climate. …*cough*. Yes. By spending nearly everything I have and all that I’ve worked for and saved, I’m ‘doing myself a favor’. 8D You know, god freaking forbid the market systemgoes into another free fall crash (like in 2008) has another minor correction and I get laid off again and be a lazy good for nothing slob who just needs to stop having a vacation, get a job, and stop complaining. I’d be SOL. o____o So yes, I’m having huge Buyer’s Remorse at the moment, and I’m losing a little (a lot) of sleep over it, I’m having trouble focusing and being motivated at my job. I just want these next few weeks to be over and done with.
*sigh*
Alright well some GOOD NEWS. I have put in a deposit for a fursuit for my dragon character Eredran. =D And despite the aforementioned drama, I am setting aside cash to have this done, even if I get into financial trouble or not. Yay.
Because I’m going to be financially strapped, after the current painting I’m working on, afterwords I will most likely start taking commission work. I’ll cross this bridge when I get there.
Whew, alright. Yeah I kinda feel better after getting all this out in print. Doesn’t help when I re-read it. ;___;
And with that, I’ll serve up some good drama!
8D You know, god freaking forbid the market system

Post FWA
Posted 12 years agoFWA was one of the best weekends I've ever had! The peoples, the sights, the great vibes, everything! It was awesome!! :D I was going to write up everything that happened but
beat me to it: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4448779/
One thing I really enjoyed was the Artists Den floor and the Artist Alley rooms. Watching everyone make art, showcase their work, making badges, pictures, and other things, really motivated me to draw and paint again. In fact while we were all resting in our room between the events I made three pictures on my little table easel I brought along. I'm going to upload them later and then I'm going to paint them! :D And then, I'm going to open up for Commissions. I really want to do it, and seeing everyone there in the Convention rooms doing it really energized me to try it myself. I'm going to finish these couple of paintings/pictures that I have queued up, and then I want to give doing real commissions a shot. I really enjoy putting smiles on everyone's faces making characters come alive. :D
So to reiterate again, there were plenty of completely awesome and amazingly great things that happened during the whole trip. Reflecting on the trip, there are a few things I felt like I really need to work on for the next big convention.
1. Even though
said to me that anyone in a fursuit would be more than happy to say hi or take a picture for anyone who asked, I was still really shy to do it. Towards the end of the con on Sunday I began to loosen up a little, but I was still too nervous. This is something I really need to work on for AC or FAU or any future con.
2. I was and still am nervous about wearing a tail in public. Inside the hotel I didn't have a problem with it, but out on the street I became nervous. When my great friend
allowed me to wear her DKitty character, I had no problem going around in the hotel or out on the street. It was great! But the tail by itself where my real face is exposed made me very nervous. This is again something I really need to work on and overcome.
Other than that, I had so much fun seeing everything, participating in the events, going to the raves with
, going out fursuiting with everyone mentioned above and also including
and
was the best time in my life I've ever had. And I really mean that. I miss everyone that I went with. *sniffles*
But I really want to go to the next couple of conventions coming up! And maybe I can have a fursuit of my own soon! :D

Vacation!
Posted 12 years agoI'm getting excited for going to FWA on Thursday. It's going to be a completely new experience for me, and I'm going to take lots of pictures and hopefully get to meet lots of peoples! :D
With arts and stuff, before I get into a art rut I'm half ready to put this painting I'm working on at the moment on the backburner until I get the motivation to finish it. I work for about five minutes at a time and then go back to drawing other stuff. Just not feeling this one, which my pastel instructor a while ago said wasn't a bad thing if I wanted to put some work away for a while until I'm ready to finish it.
But anyway, vacation!! :D Woo!

A spontaneous paperweight
Posted 12 years agoA spontaneous paperweight has fallen into my possession. It weighs about a pound and cost some serious dosh to get. I stare at it right now, as it mocks me with its insidious evilness.
And what is this paperweight which I abhor with such anger and rage? ....My graphics card! :D
.... >___<
Apparently only 4 months into its life, it just up and fails. Right in the middle of my painting my picture. You know, NOTHING lasts anymore. *sigh* Alright well my painting and other stuff is on hold for the next week or two as I go through the joyous pain of getting the RMA going. Dammit, I was actually getting somewhere with my painting too.

2012 – Looking back
Posted 12 years agoWell it’s the end of the year. Looking back at how the year has gone I try and reflect on the big things I did and what I achieved, as well as what I’d like to do.
- 2011 New Year’s Resolution - Success! Joined a gym like I said I would at the beginning of the year. Lost 17 pounds so far and successfully kept it off. Picked up a pair of Vibram five fingers and I love them. With them I can run further and faster for a longer period of time without fatiguing so fast. Fastest mile time for 2012 was 8:14, and my fastest 5 km run was 29:43. Longest run without stopping was 4.26 miles in 40 minutes. I know I can do better, I just have to keep exercising and eating right.
- Played around with pastels more and finished a few paintings, just some simple images of flowers and landscape stuff as practice. I framed a few and gave them away as gifts to peoples at my job who were interested.
- Joined FA! And went to my first fur-meet ever in October. Was great fun :D
And… well other than that, a lot of nothing. Just making sure I kept my job, reading software development books, playing around with coding ideas, did late night support calls for a bit, work work work. I’m boring! 8D
2013 New Year Resolutions!
Gym - Lose 10-15 more pounds, beat 8 minutes in a mile run, and attempt a sustained run for 5 continuous miles.
Pastels - Attempt a few pastel landscapes on my plein-air easel, maybe in Elizabeth Park :)
FA stuff - Maybe poke my head into a con if one pops up nearby. Also make an attempt to not let my job bog down my paintings. I make too many doodles and sketches, and I need to start seeing more of them through all the way to a finished piece.
Try and do more stuff other than work related things in my spare time. There’s better stuff I could be doing.
Misc – Sounds weird, but as long as I've remembered I've always wanted to join a karting club. Like, professional karting, where the kart can go up to 85 MPH unrestricted. I want to find a place somewhere nearby and do it.
Yay for year-end reflection!

Hectic hump has surpassed
Posted 13 years agoEver get to a point where it's just one thing after another after another of work, appointments, work, scheduled runs with friends, more work, overtime work, family, and then work? Yeah that was me from November till now. I want to now do absolutely nothing and just relax.
Tomorrow I'm looking forward to going to the Rocky Hill diner meet thingy. Good times, good eats, meet new peoples. Should be fun. :D

Hurricane Sandy
Posted 13 years agoHope everyone stays safe and sound as the storm comes up the East Coast and curves inland tomorrow. The storm looks like its going to stall when it hits the mainland and hover in one place for around 48 hours. Electricity will probably go out due to the sustained winds, so stock up on dry food and a few days worth of water.

Stay safe everyone!

Trying to be more active!
Posted 13 years agoBlegh! My life's been consumed by work and being too burned out from said work to really be on a lot. I'm going to put my best effort going forward to end this burned-out rut.
This happened with my other gallery over in dA land. I'd disappear for weeks because I was too tired to really draw or paint and I lost a lot of time that I could have otherwise spent productively. D: The full paintings I do end up taking weeks or months to complete. So as a challenge to myself, I'm really going to start trying to draw some sketches of just random stuff every day or so in hopes of making some more finished pieces more quickly.
With that said, maybe the problem is I have no clue what to draw when I stare at the white paper or canvas. That, and I don't have deadlines of any kind when it comes to making pictures. One thing I've always wanted to do was to possibly start doing commissions on the side but I always bowed out. Maybe to keep the drawing bug alive, I could do some sketches of characters any one would like to suggest to start. :) Maybe from there I could take it to the next level.
But for now, Imma sketch and doodle stuff for the rest of the night.
