Here there be Dragons Patreon page is open!!
General | Posted 11 years agoYup, after a few weeks of thought and effort, Here there be Dragons officially has a Patreon page.
http://www.patreon.com/user?u=116126
Bear in mind, I'm still working out all the details, but I'm pretty sure this can only mean good things for the comic, and it's various side-content.
The fans have been *very* generous to me and Karno over the years, and I think this would be the next logical step. A lot of artists seems to be doing it, and goodness knows I have always had more ideas than money to realize them.
If all goes well, you guys might get to see a lot more of those dusty corners of my mind. We'll see how it goes.
Please note that due to the latest hubbub, you can no longer use PayPal to support creators of adult content (such as me) on Patreon, but rather you'd need to use a creditcard. Hope this isn't a problem for anyone.
Another problem that resulted from this is that my page on Patreon has automatically been set to "private", meaning it will not show up in the search results. You need a direct link to my Patreon page (such as the one above) in order to find my page and be a patron, so if anyone asks you where my Patreon page is, link them here, or give them the above link directly.

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea Part 2 (spoiler free)
General | Posted 11 years agoJust finished playing through BaS #2, and man oh man was it money well spent.
I'm going to avoid spoilers, and I'm just going to say that, if you're into the Bioshock games for the action, you *might* be kind of disappointed in this DLC, but if you love the lore and the setting of Rapture, then *wow* do you hit the jackpot with this. There are so many flashback to the original Bioshock I can't even count them all, and you even get to see some things that were only hinted at in that first game.
One scene in particular made me laugh with glee. It was just so good.
I give Burial at Sea Part 2 two thumbs up.

Here there be Dragons goes Patreon? Speak your mind please.
General | Posted 11 years agoOr at least, it might soon.
Yep, I've thought about it for a few weeks, and me,
Karno and a few other friends have discussed it, and HtbD might soon be getting its very own website, and a Patreon account to help it grow.
Now, while I'm still figuring out some of the mechanics of it all, I have a few questions for the fans of the comic.
1) I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but I think there's at least a chance that the comic might get over-sponsored. If that happens, I feel it's only right to give the generous fans bonus material. My question is, what would you like to see?
2) Is there anyone who would like to see the comic in color? if we get a lot of patron, this could actually be affordable, but the question is if anyone would want it. Me personally, I would prefer to see the comic stay black and white, since that's the way it's always been, but I'd like to hear the fans' input here.
HtbD will of course continue to be posted here, so you long-time fans don't need to fret, but it might also show up on a new website. You will be informed when/if this comes to pass.
Please, speak up, let's hear your thoughts on this.

General | Posted 11 years agoHey there everyone.
Just wanted to make a quick journal thanking all of you who were kind enough to send me wellwishes on my birthday. Really appreciated it.
Also, I only just realized, Here there be Dragons have officially been running for 5 YEARS now. Man, this is one long-lived comic when you think about it. :3
Possibly more good news about that in the near future, but some details will have to be checked and confirmed first. I'll keep you posted.

DING! 34!!
General | Posted 11 years agoAnd just like that, I am one year closer to being in my exact mid-30s. XD
Gotta say, I feel just fine. I would have liked to have been employed on my birthday, but while I'm not getting an actual paycheck, I'm still making it by okay, and I get to sleep in, so it's all good so far.
Haven't got any big plans for the day, but the omen in the family says they might drop by later, so I need to do some last minute cleaning. But you do that when you know you're having guests.
Let's see, news....
Well, I suppose I can tell you that HtbD page #16 is in the process of being inked, and pages 17 & 18 are in the works right after that. This month may have had a slow start but it will have a good finish. ;)
Script-wise, I've got the outlines done all the way up to page #27, but I still need to polish those. Once all those are done, I *think* we're about at the "2/3rds done" line, and I'm guessing part 3 of HtbD will end at around 40 pages or so.
Damn, these chapter just keep getting bigger. Wonder if I need an editor?
Or maybe you people prefer the undiluted products of my brain? >:3
I am considering opening a Patreon page for HtbD. This is still very much in the idea stage, and I need to check with a few people first, but it might just happen.
I am also working on and off on a new adult comic with a very nice Brazilian artist. This is completely separate from HtbD and is one of those other ideas for comics that have popped up into my brain over the years. We have 10 pages done in the sketch stages, but I am not sure where to post it just yet. I *might* consider going the Patreon route with that later too, but I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's see if I can get the HtbD one off the ground first.
I think that's everything.
You all have a good weekend now.

Support an artist (Livestream)
General | Posted 11 years agoHey everyone!
Just wanted to spread the word about a great comic artist that is running a commission livestream right now. It's Ralph Hayes Jr of http://www.rhjunior.com/ . I think he's mainly known for his Tales of the Questor and Goblin Hollow webcomics. Both are excellent reads in my book.
Anyway, he's currently doing livesstreams where he takes $20 commissions live to help with some backtaxes, which is a worthy cause. I've gotten 3 of them so far (which will be posted here as they finish), but he could use a few more (he could need about a 100 or so before the end of the month), so if you have some spare cash for a great and funny comic artist, go to the link below and get one for yourselves.
http://www.rhjunior.com/commissions/
Ralph Hayes will be streaming this whole month, Mon-Fri 6pm-9pm ET. If you can click on the livestream video lower on that page then the stream is up.

Robocop review (semi-spoilers)
General | Posted 12 years ago*giggles with glee* OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOOOOOOOOD!!! SO AWESOME!!! SO MUCH ACTION!!! AAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
*takes a deep breath* Okay, okay. I'm calm. I'm cool.
I give the 2014 version of Robocop a heartfelt two thumbs up. And I *mean* that "heartfelt" comment.
I went into this movie feeling more than a little cautious. I saw the original when it came out, and frankly, I'm one of those that neither could see a way that it could be improved, nor did I see the need for anyone to try. Still, the trailers didn't look half-bad, so I decided to give it a chance.
And boy howdy was I glad I did.
Mind you, we're crossing into semi-spoilerific territory from here on out, so if you wanna savor the surprise, stop reading right now, go see the movie and judge for yourself. Okay?

Still here? Okay, I'll take that as consent to proceed.
I'm pretty sure that everybody already knows the plot of Robocop, so I don't feel the need to bring that up.
And by the way, in case you're actually unfamiliar with the plot of Robocop...
*bitchslaps you, twice, HARD*
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING EVEN GLANCING AT THIS REVIEW FOR?!!! GET YOUR HEATHEN EYES AWAY FROM THIS JOURNAL AND GO SEE ROBOCOP!!! NO, NOT THE GODDAMN SEQUELS!! THE ORIGINAL AND THE NEW ONE!! OH I AIN'T PLAYING BITCH!! *scruff-carries you to the door and tosses you out* GIT YO IGNORANT ASS OUT OF MY SIGHT!!
*dusts off hands* Alright, now that only the true movie-goers are left, let's talk business.
I've spent the better part of an hour since I got out of the theatre thinking about how the new Robocop movie compares to the old one. And frankly, I can't think of a single thing it does *worse* than the original. Instead, there are things that it does differently, things that it does better, and things that it plain skips.
Differently:
- Robocop ruthlessness. Robo was always fairly ruthless in the original, but there, you kinda got the impression (mostly from how slowly he moved) that he wasn't all that passionate or personal about it. The new Robo is slightly different, in that you can tell that he still acts with a kind of human passion, but he instead does it with machine-like efficiency. That's a step up on the awesome-scale in my book, and those people in the movie who are intimidating by him, you kinda wanna go "Nonono, you're not a coward, you're being sensible. That is one scary motherfucker.". And his speed! Holy shit! You so much as threaten this guy and there is no hesitation (which is also explained), you blink and the next moment you've been shot. Ruthless!
- Technology. The original movie came out in 1987, at a time when the Internet was still in its infancy, and wireless transfer of data was barely even a concept. Updated to a current-day perception of technology, and even a fairly generous view of what tech will be in a few decades, the amount of information (and by extension, power) and processing capability that 2014-Robo has access to with just a thought is light-years away from the original.
- Murphy's partner. Murphy original partner, the female Anne Lewis, was never really a favorite character of mine. I simply didn't like her that much. Boy was I pleasantly surprised when they teamed up Murphy with none other than Michael K. Williams (the guy who plays "Chalkie" White on Boardwalk Empire!!!). AWESOME!! Granted, their partnership isn't as extensive as in the original duo's, but they still get some good moments together.
- We only get to hear the original score *once* in this movie, which could very well be my only semi-real complaint. I heard cheers in the theatre when those oh so sweet notes came out of the speakers, and I joined in with the rest of the audience.
- Props go out to Samuel L. Jackson who plays the judgmental newscaster (they never flat out show that he's in OmniCorps pocket, but he's definitely biased towards them). He's actually a very interesting character, who's not flat-out a scumbag, but rather spiced with asshole-ness. And I actually thought we'd go an entire movie without heard a single cussword outta Jackson, but no, he get's exactly *two* cusses. Wow, I'm impressed.
Better:
- Character development. I cannot stress this enough. In the original, only Robo got something in the way of development, and that was bare bones at that. In this new version you get so much more. Robo, his wife, the CEO of OmniCorp (the new OCP), even the doctor who puts Murphy back together again, they all get a fair share of their time in the spotlight, and it works fantastically! Raymond Sellars, the new main bad guy, gets a hell of a lot more development. You get to see how he really works under the hood. Okay, he's still an arrogant asshole, but you get to see him make those defining decisions that ends up having such huge consequences.
Skips:
- That dystopia feeling. In the original there were a lot of pretty grim TV commercials that painted the world outside the one we mostly saw as a pretty grim place. Those are gone (mostly) and only one, the most often-quoted one ( you know which one I mean) only being referenced. I found this pretty refreshing, since the original tended to be a bit depressing. Sure, it was spice, but they kinda went a bit too far with it.
- Gore. Let's not mince words here, the original Robocop went through squibs like a coke addict goes through syringes, and it was frankly utterly ridiculous at times. Okay, an amusing kind of ridiculous, but still. The new one tones it way down, but thankfully doesn't go the CG blood route. There is still some gore in this movie, some of which actually made me cringe, but this movie *earns* it. I won't spoil it, but I'll rather just give you a quote that speaks volumes.
"Oh God, there's nothing left."
- Finally, a few gimmicks that weren't in the original, but that I am glad they restrained themselves from putting in. NO! 3D! NO! SLOW! MO! YYYYYEEEAAAAHHH!!!!
- Gun tricks. The original Murphy did a lot of gun twirling and tricks which he learned in order to emulate a TV hero that his son idolized. This was later one of the defining character traits after he became Robocop. The new version doesn't do those tricks (though he has one mean quickdraw). Nor is the new Robo's gun all that iconic. The original one was a Beretta M93R which has been modified to look bigger and badder, and it was awesome to hear that distinctive burst firing. The new one only gets the briefest of introductions, and it really kind of whizzes by. It's only been 2 hours since I saw the movie and I'm already having trouble remembering the new one.
- ED-209 no longer squeals like a pig. THANK! YOU! GOD! GOOD! FUCKING! RIDDANCE!
- No 1-shot-ing ED-209. This was one of the sweeter moments of the original, in which the middle of the movie Robo gets his ass kicked by ED, but the 2nd time they meet, Robo just straight-up bitchslaps ED to death. No such catharsis in this one, but Robo *does* have an ED fight, and it's pretty awesome.
All in all, I found Robocop to be a worthy equal to the original, if not even a little better with all the character development that get's *just* the right amount of screen time.
Once again, I heartily recommend this movie to anyone who's in the mood for some good quality action.
Seriously, any movie that can actually make me giggle with glee has *earned* that recommendation.

My parents used to throw parties with this stuff during the summers, and my actually built an entirely new house at the back of the property just for this. Not a full-sized house, mind, but still, way nicer than a mere shack. That's how potent the smell is. Neither I nor my brother would go near that house for days afterwards. Ugh! XP

Happy New Year 2014!!
General | Posted 12 years agoHope everybody else had a good New Years Eve as well. Pity I didn't wake up next to anybody but oh well, can't have everything.
Hmmmmm, let's see, New Year's Resolutions...
- Use up all 30 sessions on my membership card to the local gym.
- Continue working on Here there be Dragons.
- Start on my new comic project (secret secret secret X3)
- Delve into the mysteries of the Turk's Head knot.
- Hopefully make at least one complete paracord whip.
- Try at least 5 new pie recipies.
- Get a more active social life.
- Get a new job. Maybe at sea.
Besides that, I'll let the year come in its due time. Looking back, 2013 wasn't all that bad really. It had its ups and downs, but then so does everything.
Take care out there. Welcome to a brand new year. ;)

Welcome to a brand new year. ;)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug review (spoilers)
General | Posted 12 years agoAWESOME!!!!
*ahem*
Well, I saw the movie yesterday, and have thought it over. And I definitely recommend seeing this movie.
I saw it in 3D and HFR, and unlike the 1st movie, I didn't feel the two tricks added much to this one. If you want, you can see it in the tricked-out version, but I don't think you'd miss it if you saw the regular one.
Smaug was *Epic*! Effing HUGE!! Some have complained that Smaug acted a bit much like an idiot, but you need to keep in mind, Dragons in Tolkien's universe are more "brawny" than DnD dragons. They're arrogant, proud, and can't really do much in the way of magic. Benedict Cumberbatch works wonders as his voice.
Erebor was *beautiful*! Truly shows off that dwarves in the Tolkien saga think, plan and build *big*.
The barrel ride down the rapids was funny as hell, especially Bombur's parts in it.
Legolas has been called a scene-stealing attention-whore who has no place in this movie (or in the original book), and while he definitely kicks an unprecedented amount of orc ass, yeah, I could do without him.
The love-interest between Tauriel and Kili? Utterly superfluous and pretty overdone.
I've heard that some have felt that ending the movie before Smaug's death was a bit premature, but really, would you rather have him dead and then they spring the Battle of the Five Armies right at the end? Either way it'll be a cliffhanger.
Thranduil is a massive *prick* XD
Showing us the tomb of The Nine was *cool*. Maybe a bit nondescript, but I figure that's what you go for when you bury servants of utter evil.
And finally, the steward/stooge/buttmonkey of the Master of Lake Town reminds me so much of Grima Wormtongue I wanted to throw popcorn at the screen every time he was on.

General | Posted 12 years agoHere there be Dragons in... Spanish???
General | Posted 12 years agoUmm, yeah.
Apparently there is some guy (or girl) who thought the first chapter if HtbD was intriguing enough to translate the entire thing to Spanish. Have a look.
http://g.e-hentai.org/g/643512/1849ef0c8f/
Seeing as I unfortunately don't speak Spanish, can anyone of my Spanish-fluent fans tell me if they did a good job of it? XD

Proposed HtbD schedule (cast your vote)
General | Posted 12 years agoHey everybody.
Most of you have probably seen the HtbD samples posted in Karno's gallery by now, an are wondering why I haven't posted the full pages.
A fair question. Here's the answer.
After an influx of *very* generous donations earlier this month, Karno ended up working on four HtbD pages at ones. Three of these are currently finished (one of which has ben posted), and one more is in the works.
Thing is, after seeing this journal ( http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5193999/ ), I'm thinking of giving Karno a month off from the comic so he at least has a little bit less on his plate. After all, he worked his ass off to get those 4 pages done while juggling a whole bunch of other projects at the same time.
Which leaves me with a choice to make between two options.
1) Give you guys all 3 of the new pages at once in one big splurge, means that after which, you'd be looking at two months before the next update
or
2) Following a suggestion from
silverback21 , starting next Friday, I will post one new page every other Friday, and then Karno starts working on new pages. That means that, yes, you will have to wait longer to see the whole story, but the wait between pages will be shorter.
As these are donation-sponsored pages, I feel that the decision of which option is to be used should rest in the hands of the fans.
(if any of you generous donors would like to voice your thoughts, send me a note here on FA.)
So, let's hear it, what would you prefer? 3 pages at once and then a long wait, or several short waits with a page every other Friday?
Karno, your thoughts on this?

[CONTEST] Win a free HtbD sketch!! [Closed]
General | Posted 12 years agoHere we go again! :D
Some of the older fans might remember that about 2 years ago, I and
syrinoth threw a little contest. The setup was very simple. I posted a sketch that Syrinoth had made of a panel in the HtbD comic, and the first fan to post *exactly* which page and panel was depicted would win a free sketch of Gustav and Zashy doing whatever the winner wanted (within Syri's comfort zone of course).
Last time
tamatitheninetailedfox won the contest within 2 hours, and he decided to get this as his prize. Both nice and original.
And now we're doing it again.
Syri has already been paid for a sketch, which can have up to two characters, and now all that's needed is an idea.
Here are the rules.
- I will post the contest pic at NOON (12AM) CST on Tuesday the 15th of October (för mina svenska fans blir det k 20:00 på kvällen ;))). For those of you a little fuzzy on CST, just click HERE
- The *first* one who posts a comment with the correct part, page *and* panel that the pic represents wins the contest. If the last contest was any indication, this will be over in only an hour or so, quite possibly faster this time, so stay sharp!
- The winner gets to decide exactly what he wants for the pic, with the following restrictions:
* Two characters maximum (this will be a b&w sketch).
* Can only contain HtbD characters (Gustav and Zashy are most likely, but the two new dragonesses are fine as well).
* Can be either another comic panel, or an original idea.
* No vore, gore, scat or unbirthing.
* Must be consentual.
* Must also follow Syrinoth's standard guidelines.
I am not entirely certain if I should exclude Tamati since he won last time, and maybe I should let everybody else have a chance? Tam, your thoughts on this?
I think that's all of it. See you guys and gals on Tuesday.

[EDIT] And it's
cig1 who's the winner!! Big round of applause!!!

[EDIT] And it's
cig1 who's the winner!! Big round of applause!!!My take on the FA Meme
General | Posted 12 years agoOh Why not?
1. Why did you join FurAffinity?Got interested in the furry art community and figured joining couldn't hurt.
2. What does your username have to do with you?
In part generally where I'm from, and in part inspired by the little lizards I used to catch on the beach when I was a kid.
3. What is your current avatar of?
My OC Andreas Talorim, offering a sip of his latest (harmless!) alchemical cocktail.
4. How many watchers do you have, and how many do you watch?
At the moment I have 3635 (holy shit) people watching me (at least I assume they're people XD) and I'm watching 533 artists. Inbox backlog surpassed "ridiculous numbers" a long ways back. XD
5. Do you have more than one account?Only one here on FA, but I have another on Hentai Foundry and a backup account on
6. Name 3 of your favorite artists on FA.
That's not an easy one, but I think I'll go with
ssn_inc,
neodokuro and
Syrinoth (
Liquidmark and
Maxblackrabbit are honorable runners-up).
7. What artist do you admire because of their personality?
Definitely
Karno. XD
8. Do you comment, fave, or both?
Mostly I fave, but I comment on those submissions that really catch my attention.
9. What do you typically post on FA?
Mostly pages of my adult comic Here there be Dragons, and various smutty pics featuring either my OC characters, or fanart of something I really like.
10.What's your favorite submission in your gallery?
It's an even tie between http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9043551/ and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10937023/
11. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
I wish I could draw period. XD
12. How many hours a day do you spend on FA?
About 10 minutes or so in the morning, then maybe an hour when I come home in the afternoon. Longer on days when I post stuff, especially new pages.
13. Are you a fast, slow, or medium typer?
I think I'm pretty fast typer, but I never made it through that typing course in school, so I have to look at the keyboard when I write, which slows me down a bit.
14. What is the most annoying thing people ask you?
When they ask if my OC Andreas was inspired by Davy Jones or Chthulhu. NEITHER!!!! XD
15. What is the most annoying/offending comment you've received?
Don't think I've gotten one of those yet.
16. What/who inspires you?
Honestly, whatever artist I'm commissioning. I look through their gallery, and like magic, something that fits their style usually pops into my head. Sometimes the ideas brings a whole gang of friends too, making my poor wallet beg for mercy.
17. Everyone has considered leaving FA once or twice. Have you? Why?
I think I pondered it once, when I thought about what I'd do once all my ideas for HtbD were realized. I'd probably leave the gallery up though, not cleaning it out when I go or anything. I hate it when artists wipe the slate clean when they leave, since a lot of that stuff might have inspired me for years.

Elysium review
General | Posted 12 years agoJust came back from seeing Elysium, and I have to say I recommend it.
The trailer was interesting, but what really sold it for me was a comment in an audio review by the Spill.crew, "they blow up people up *real* good in this movie". Now, any film that has earns *that* kind of comment, I got to go see.
And I was well amused by Elysium. One of the more impressive things is the future tech in the movie, which manages to look both futuristic *and* believable. That's actually pretty rare.
Oh yeah, there's some serious gore in a few places in this flick, but they're used to good effect.
Also, I *loooooooved* seeing Sharlto Copley playing the badass villain Kruger in this movie. Hand on my heart, he was probably at least 80% of the reason I went to see this movie. I mean, he is *disturbing*. And it's actually a bit ironic, 'cause in District 9, where he played the main character Wikus van der Merwe , he was running away from South African-Dutch para-military asshole, and now he plays one of them. XD And does it *WELL*.
Anyhoo, I give Elysium my recommendation. It's worth a look.
