What is a reference sheet?
Posted 3 years agoor what it should really be referred to as, a 'character concept sheet'
So you've designed your character and it looks awesome! now you want to become your character and you decide to commission a fursuit, thats brilliant! so you look up a fursuit builder, admire the quality of their work and decide to commission them for a suit of your character. The problem here is you have only one drawing of your character, which isn't much to go on for something that is going to be three dimensional. The suit builder could take a wild guess at what your character might look like from different angles, but it might not be what you had in mind and you may end up disappointed with the final piece and the suit builder probably spent time stressing over blindly trying to guess how your character looks from different angles.
This is where a character concept sheet comes in handy. Before commissioning a suit, go and find a character concept artist first and work together on how your character would look from different angles. Keep in mind it's important to keep the proportions of the character the same for every angle including the markings, and the colours should be flat with no shading so fur swatches can be matched up as close as possible.
some examples of character concept sheets:
https://characterdesignreferences.c.....f-looney-tunes
http://www.promobearsusa.com/wp-con.....-Plush-toy.jpg
https://i.pinimg.com/564x/b9/bb/2b/.....9bb39dd01a.jpg
things to consider when working on your character concept sheet:
1. Expression
How do you want your character to appear to others? happy? grumpy? mischievious?
2. Style
Are you after a toony or more realistic look?
3.Shape
Digigrade or plantigrade? four finger hand paws or five? wings?
4. anatomy
does your character look like it's species?
5. aesthetics keep markings clear and precise.
So to round things up, before commissioning a suit:
1. come up with a character idea
2. get a character concept sheet made
3. commission a suit builder
4. enjoy your suit!
I hope these tips are helpful.
kind regards

pre confuzzled announcement!
Posted 7 years agoThank you all for your commissions in the past and supporting me and Scrappy. Life has become a bit hectic at the moment and we are still trying to get back on track. Last year we rescued a pregnant Springer Spaniel and had the tough job of raising 9 puppies. This put us on hiatus from fursuit work as the pups were priority and took up majority of our time. Now they have been rehomed, we have kept two ourselves. But with pups being pups, they get into all kinds of mischief and like the look of fluffy fursuit materials. So we have been waiting until they grow up a bit before continuing with and taking on any new commissions. Also the room we construct in is too cold during the winter to do any work in. (usually we would move rooms but the other rooms are accessible to the pups and not everyone in the house remembers to shut doors to keep them out) we will however be making small pieces to sell at confuzzled to see how we and the pups get on with that. we are also playing by ear as our hours at work are being changed (which will make fursuit work more possible as currently we both work early and long hours and by the time we finish work and other priorities there aren't enough hours to begin any fursuit construction) but we have been left hanging on that one until they give the word. Which means everything is currently on hold until we hear confirmation of the new hours.
future projects will be chosen, meaning not everyone will get a place on the commission list unless it's something we want to make. the reason being is we want to gain more experience, but we can't do that when our commission list is full of smaller projects (aka sleeves, feet paws, bodysuits only etc). These are a possibility but only when bigger projects aren't on the construction table.
We thank you for your patients and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Look forward to seeing you all at Confuzzled

Studio Updates and Adoptables wanted!
Posted 8 years agoHi all! hope your new year is going well.
we are busy making suits ready for Confuzzled 2017, replying to quotes and updating the website.
We have created a new page on our website http://facepaw.weebly.com/adoptables.html as an experimental idea. Since we've had 'artistic liberty' enquiries, we've decided to open up an ADOPTABLES page!
The idea is that we post up character designs that we would ideally like to build, instead of having an artistic liberty option.
There will be a list of character ref sheets with a price next to them for a basic fullsuit (alterations can be made but will affect the price) So all you need to do is pick a design you like and contact us for more info.
The page is a bit empty at the moment, so we need to get it filled. We are currently looking for adoptables to fill the page up.
we can either buy the adoptable off of you, or we can advertise the adoptable on our website with a link to you and you receive payment when someone commissions a suit of the character.
example:
[ref sheet adoptable image] ADOPTABLE 1: Purple Fox
current owner: labradorpup2001 [include link]
basic plantigrade fullsuit: £1500
contact us for a custom quote (e.g if you want digigrade, indoor feetpaws etc)
partial: £750
When filling in the quote form, please fill the 'character name' box with ADOPTABLE1
So if you have an adoptable you no longer want. or you have created a character to sell, let us know!
hope you have an awesome week!
