Posted 10 years agoOkay, Obi is ready to ship
The absolute saint of a person Paintedmutt needs a photoshoot first thing in the morning. I had a little issue with some body padding that needed to be solved, I thought I could dart it but I ended up just re-taping the part of the pattern completely.
Emerald and Dani are next up.
My plushie is almost ready to start putting together. Scratching patterning a plushie is a little more trial and error than I thought it would be, but a nice little side project for when I need some time off the big projects.
For everyone sending me dummies, remember my address HAS CHANGED. PLEASE NOTE ME WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SHIP.
Yes, I have changed addresses three times since last November. It's been a little crazy. Thanks for putting up with me.

My two cents on IMVU acquisition of FA
Posted 10 years agohttp://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.....c&start=45
Clarification:
The advertising that we are talking about is not ads for the IMVU service on FA site. We will be monetizing the FA site traffic by selling ad space to third parties - ads will be unobtrusive and targeted to the community interests.
Non-VIPs on IMVU do see third party display ads on our website.
Thank you

That's what it comes down to. The bottom of the screen clearly states FA is now copyright of IMVU. IMVU owns FA, Dragoneer is an employee on some sort of salary now. IMVU aquired FA. IMVU aren't partners, they aren't interested in furries for fa or the community or changing the status quo. They clearly stated their intentions.
FA has a TOS. Read it and agree and continue on with your day or disagree and go somewhere else. My point with this journal is we as consumers are more valuable than some furry porn. They don't care about stealing our art.

Back up and running at 100 percent. so much room for activities!
Hey hi hello
Posted 10 years agoI am 90 percent moved in and like 50 percent unpacked. I'll have some pics of the new place soon. It took a lot longer than I thought it would to move. I appreciate your patience and I'm already starting to get back to work. If you were holding off mailing your dummy Skype me when you are ready to ship for my new address.
Hopefully Internet will be up tomorrow.
Also on a personal note my mom was hospitalized last night after having a major heart attack. I'm struggling to deal with that. She is alright, they put a stint in and she is stable, hopefully she can leave tomorrow.
The signs of a heart attack for a woman are different from a man's. Please take a moment to educate yourself on the signs, you might save a life one day.

UPDATES
Posted 10 years agoFirstly, something is wrong with my Skype, I can't get on it. Not ignoring anyone, simply can't access it right now. Please message me at familliar420[at]gmail.com or note me here if you are trying to get ahold of me for now.
Secondly, we closed on the house and we start moving in on the 1st. The internet is disconnected on the 1st, I won't have internet. I imagine it will take us a week to move. Please be patient with me.
Lastly, I only got about half of what I needed to get done actually finished for TFF despite 12 hour work days. I'm going to keep working until the 1st to get the two other suits that were due done before I move. The girl helping me got a "real" job, bless her heart. So I'm alone again.
I appreciate everyone's patience with me and I am certain to start my next batch within a week of my projected time frame.

Back and working
Posted 11 years agoMy goal for the rest of this month is to have three projects in my queue and ready for furry fiesta so I can get some good pics. My new part-time help is actually a burner girl named heather; not a furry, but she's great at helping me do busywork like basting and tracing.
Gone for the weekend

Open for commissions, my future in fursuit building
Posted 11 years agoI had never intended to make this my full-time job but starting this year, it is. I believe the best plan of action is to take 6 or 7 commissions for the year at a time so I can have more money at once to invest back into this. Investing money means I build faster. I can get my vac form machine up, sculpt and cast more blanks, and cast more parts. Not to mention a better sewing machine.
My darling boyfriend is working on some banners so I can post up banner ads and stuff like that. So I guess let's do this!

Updated TOS
Posted 11 years agoI make costumes as a source of income. This is how I pay my bills so I take it seriously. I also take you as a customer seriously and want you to have the best experience possible. I am here to answer any and all questions that relate to your fursuit, fursuit care, performance, hygiene, safety, and storage.
35 percent retainer is non-refundable and due at the date of acceptance or within 3 business days of agreeing to these terms of service and goes towards the total balance. This 35% non-refundable retainer is put in place to cover my losses in not only materials but time, money, and energy as well. I accept paypal mainly but will accept money orders.
The balance needs to be paid in full before the suit is mailed. You are responsible for shipping. Generally shipping for a fullsuit is in the 50-75 dollar range. I track and insure my packages, you will see the receipt and tracking number.
I am fairly laid back with my payment plans. My turn around is 4-6 months depending on complexity so keep that in mind. If you need longer to pay it off, I can work with you. You can pay me off quick or we can split the balance up over a few months. Generally people who miss a payment just get pushed to the back of the queue, causing delays in completion. I know life happens and an open line of communication solves many problems. The worst thing you can do is ignore me.
If I've had your suit finished for more than 60 days I'll start charging rent at 100 dollars a month and we will decide on a payment plan that will work for both of us. If your suit has been finished or in any stage of completion for 4 months without any attempt at payments and little conversation I reserve the right to refund what you have paid minus the deposit, modify the suit so it doesn't resemble the original and sell it at auction. All of these scenarios are avoidable with simple communication. A situation where rent would be applied would be an order that has been finished and paid off but the customer is unreachable or has otherwise dropped conversation.
My suits come with a 30 day warranty. If something doesn't fit or if there happens to be a problem with something we can talk about it. If it's something you can't fix yourself just put it back in a box, ship it back to me, take a picture of the receipt with tracking and I will reimburse you and pay to ship it back. I am not responsible for normal wear and tear. If you need a little fursuit care kit I can supply you with one. Knowing how to make a simple stitch or use a glue gun goes a long way to fix a loose claw in a pinch. If you feel that it's better to have a local work on a suit instead of taking advantage of my warranty, it voids the warranty. Adding anything extra like zippers or holes voids the warranty. I don't mind at all if you need help with something but take advantage of my warranty first.
If you ever need a refurb, refurbs are always free as long as you pay shipping both ways.
Everything needs to be shipped back clean. Your suit will be shipped with a care pack of tutorials and things you need to keep the suit clean.
*DURING THE COMMISSION PROCESS*
You will have my skype or my e-mail address. Skype is by far the quickest way to contact me for small questions and to exchange wip. I enjoy customers who give me feedback and are involved in the process.
You will get foamwork approval, pattern approval, and approval of everything before it's shipped out. You need to make sure that the reference sheet you provide is up to date and accurate. If you need help with a reference sheet I can help you.
*WHAT I NEED FROM YOU*
I need a hand trace mailed to me. On the hand trace you can write the measurements I need and will outline for you.
DTD if applicable. If you need help in finding an appropriate tutorial I can help with that. If the dummy is poorly made, if the arms aren't extended fully, if there aren't marks to show how the dummy needs to be put back together, I may request a new one be made at the cost of the customer so if you need help please ask! If I require a DTD, I won't start your fursuit until I have it. Any delay in getting the dummy to me may cause a delay in your finished product.
I have cats. If that's an issue let me know so I can accommodate you.
*THINGS I DON'T DO*
Designs you don't have a right to make copies of. I am absolutely not responsible for any copyright or trademark infringement that I am not aware of. Examples would be monster energy drink logos, pokemon, or another person's art or design you happen to like and use without expressed permission. You would get into more trouble wearing it than I would making it.
Extra zippers or holes.
I usually don't want you to supply me with materials like fur. If you happen to have a rare dye batch that I can't find and you need to color match the rest of your suit AND THE FUR IS UP TO MY STANDARDS I can make exceptions.
I don't do deadlines of less than 4 months for large commissions. Exceptions can be made but only if payment is made 75-100 percent up front.
*WHEN TO CONTACT ME DURING A COMMISSION*
I am always very excited to hear from clients before, during, and after the commission process but please try to contact me after 8:30 am central and before 12:30 am central.
Need anything else? Have any questions? let me know how I can help you.
The act of sending me a deposit means you agree to all terms outlined and understand you and you alone are responsible for this transaction. my paypal is the same as this g-mail account. You must send me money from the paypal attached to this specific e-mail and all future e-mail conversations must take place through this e-mail, for your safety and mine. Please mark deposit payments as a deposit.

2 fursuit commissions open
Posted 11 years agoI have one spot that can be started on immediately and I have one spot that can be started on in Febuary. My turn-around is generally in the 4-5 month range, 6 months at the very very latest. I'm not keen on deadlines right now, but I'm willing to work with you if the price is right.
If you are interested please note me with your reference sheet. I'll take a few days to decide.

Two new kitties!!
Posted 11 years agoWe adopted two adorable sisters from the pet store, got a deal because we took both; only 75 for the pair! That was the cost of dinner and a movie to give these two cuties a purrever home. They are both black with gold eyes except one has a white star on her chest. We couldn't take just one!
Baby kitty isn't too pleased with new cats but we are taking it really really slow; mostly smelling through the door, I'm sure in a week they will be fast friends if I take my time.

Changes in prices and TOS
Posted 11 years agoI have come to a point where I need to start charging more. Charging more means I can take less work and spend more time on a project. Spending more time on a project means a better quality product. It will also give me more time to spend on things I want to do, like fashion items meant for a wider market. It means I can hire help for more hours.
I don't want to fall into a vicious cycle of needing to take more work than I can finish in order to pay bills. My prices are much lower than the average and that is going to not be a thing anymore.
So starting January I will have a new price guide. I'll probably open in February after my currant queue is finished.
Some changes to my TOS include;
Projects with hard deadlines requiring 65 percent up front and a duct tape dummy in the mail within 5 business days.
Situations where a deposit may be forfeit. Thanks!
A contract with an E-signature.
Tax taken into account during the quote process.
None of the changes will effect my currant customers, whom I love very much.

Getting some help
Posted 11 years agoI'm working something out with a friend to come in for a few hours here and there to help me catch up on work, as of right now I"m a little behind with what I wanted to have done this weekend because I got sick. I think it's time to pick up some help anyway if I want to have the output I need to sustain any sort of business model and sustain sanity at the same time. She's gonna come in and help me do sewing, cutting patterns, stuffing dummies, and prep work; all the patterns and foamwork are still all me. When she gets going I'll announce her/give her proper credit.
Thanks for your patience and understanding!
Also I know that I have moved, but I'm moving again. I basically downgraded to a smaller area in my boyfriends house while we house hunt.

DISTINCTIVE FABRICS WARNING PLEASE READ, REPOST
Posted 11 years agoCross posted, original post found http://fursuit.livejournal.com/6156.....4606#t64544606
IF YOU CAN CONFIRM THIS FOR YOURSELF, IF YOU KNOW COMPUTER STUFF, DO SO. DON'T TAKE ONE PERSON'S WORD FOR ANYTHING. MY FRIENDS AND I ARE TAKING STEPS TO CHECK THIS OUT.
I know there's been some fuss in this community regarding DF's customer service, which I've experienced myself. But now there's an issue that I can no longer keep quiet.
I am a software engineer, and I work primarily in web development and security.
Issue one: DistinctiveFabrics.com processes their passwords in plaintext. This means that if you log in on a less-than-secure connection, there's a chance someone could steal your login information. Ok, ok, so it's Distinctive Fabrics, who cares? Well if you're like a majority of people, you MIGHT do what security professionals have been telling you not to do for years and reuse passwords ;) (No shame, I'm guilty of it too!) Is your DF account password the same as your bank account login, your Paypal, or anything else sensitive? If so, CHANGE. YOUR. PASSWORDS. NOW.
My roommate (also a software engineer) was able to snatch up my password and log into my DF account from his own computer in mere minutes, using a program that's readily available called Wireshark. This sort of attack is trivial, and is also a great reason to avoid unsecured wireless connections and to maintain a different password for each account you have.
QUICK EDIT: Uploaded the screenshot with a sample login and password being transferred in plaintext http://imgur.com/JcoZ76G
The second, more complex issues is...
While checking on a recent order (where items had been discontinued and not noted on my order, and where items had been left off), I noticed that my account listed one of my older orders, but not my most recent, under My Account > Orders.
I wanted a digital copy of my old receipt, so I simply edited the URL to my current receipt number, and was automatically taken to my newest receipt--which is normal and correct. However, the curious security professional in me decided to try entering a random order number to see where it would take me.
I was able to access dozens of other customers' orders, including their name, shipping address, personal phone number, order contents, order date, and personal email address. I am personally uncomfortable with this information being essentially wide open for potential abuse. Please keep in mind that this data wasn't found through "hacking"; anyone who can use the keyboard can do this.
I contacted DF about this potential issue, including screenshots and detailed descriptions of my methods, on October 15th. They responded with the following:
"First , let me thank you for the extremely important information you have provided in regards to the website. Our techs have been working on updating the site since it is showing sings of old age and they will work on correcting the issue."
It is now almost mid-December, and I am still able to access other customer information.
I'm not saying you shouldn't use DF ever again, but I think that we all need to be cautious when dealing with their site until they decide to fix things up a little.
I can provide proof images for everything I've stated here (including what I sent to the company itself), although I'd have to do a lot of editing for the ones that have other customer's personal info on them. Let me know if you're interested.

Back!
Posted 11 years agoOkay, I'm like, 90 percent moved in. There is a van full of stuff outside waiting to find places for. This isn't even the last time I'm moving. My boyfriend and I are house hunting, I just moved into his place because I just couldn't bear to spend another moment away from him (And it's a lot cheaper/easier to save money)
So expect to do this all over again in a few months, lol!
As for updates, moving kind of screwed me up a bit but I'm still TECHNICALLY on schedule. I'll have a suit finished in a day or so and two small projects done to ship on december 1st.
Oh, oh, I'm casting silicone and resin parts now. Not everyone is getting automatic upgrades but if you want the things it's an option to talk to me about.
Thanks everyone!

Updates and facebook
Posted 11 years agoMoving is happening. Everything that isn't supposed to be finished this month, and I mean everything else, is not being worked on until December 1st or around there.
Moving is a crazy stressful time for me and even finding the motivation to get it done is staggering so I appreciate everyone's positive attitude and patience during this difficult time.
oh also my facebook got nuked because it wasn't under my real name. If you were on my friends list before and I disappeared without a warning I didn't delete you my facebook nuked itself without my say in the matter. I have a terrible memory for names so please re-friend me.
For everyone else, I'm making a fan page after I move.

Posted 11 years agoYes yes yes I'm home. I need to get unpacked and cleaned up and down to business.
I have a Thanksgiving deadline so that's what I'm working on for the majority of November. I have a hoodie that needs to be finished as well. I am not terribly used to having so many customers at once so just know you can always Skype me if you need to talk, I usually won't contact unless I have updates but please feel free to chat.
