Year 12 review
Posted 10 months agoIt's that time again where I do the year review on Christmas because that's the day I made this account for reasons I can't remember.
Sometimes (a lot of the time) it feels like I'm not doing enough, but this was actually my most productive year. I got published, my comic hit 600 followers, and I drew more art this year than the last 3 combined. Even if this account's growth has kinda stagnated (unlike my waistline), thanks to all FOUR of you who stuck around anyway!
I don't know how next year will shake out, but... It's been pretty good so far. Maybe next time I'll make art consistently enough to do one of those end of year reviews (probably not lets be real).

I want to do art trades
Posted 2 years agoThis year has been tough. I've spent the last 3 years trying and failing to apply for research positions and I'm tired.
Honestly I just want to quit and do art/commissions full time but I have no confidence I would make any money, even with the mild success of my webcomic. Or if I did I'd be miserable.
Thoughts? Prayers?
I think the problem is I'm not part of any communities, or really talk to other artist, so I have no idea what I'm doing, or how to improve, or any motivation to share my own art.
At the very least I want to do some art trades to get a feel for what comissions might be like, and because I'm just not really motivated to draw for myself atm, so if you want to do a trade just let me know!
Visual art only, no extreme fetishes (fatfur is fine), and as long as its not ms paint stick figures I'm fine with any skill level

The big three zero
Posted 2 years agoToday is my birthday and I finally turned 30. Luckily nothing changed, since I've already had crippling back injuries and hair loss for years now!
Even though objectively this year has been the most productive since Covid, I feel as if I really haven't accomplished anything. The last 3 years of my life were just deleted and I'm playing catch-up.
Now for some actual updates:
I stopped using Tw*tter years ago, but now I also have an Itaku (which currently has nothing on it) and I finally got a Bluesky invite (which does have stuff on it and I'm slowly working on reuploading old art to)

Posted 3 years agoA decade ago I made this account, although I've only used it for less than half that time. To be honest, the last couple of years have been very bad. I know the last thing anyone wants to see on december 25th is some rando whine online about how life sucks or whatever, but I just need to get this off my chest even if no one sees it or cares.
Even if my back injury had been completely cured, which it hasn't, I still don't find any enjoyment or satisfaction in doing art for this account, or anything really. I just recently got back from speaking at an international conference, I should feel accomplished but I don't. I've finally had some luck with publishing opportunities, but I know they're going to slip through my fingers. I've poured all of my personal time into my webcomic work, and it's seen a lot of success, but now I'm on break it feels impossible to pick it up again. I quit twitter years ago because it was making me truly miserable (a very good choice in hindsight given the current circumstances) but I have no social media now. I've hardly talked to anyone for more than a year. Why am I like this? How do I stop being like this?
I just have no idea what I want to do with my life. Do I want to stay in academia? But there's no opportunities. Do I want to do art full time? How? I can barely draw for myself, let alone for money. The future just seems confusing and bleak, and when good things happen and opportunities arrive, it's hard for me to even care. How do I be successful? How do I talk to people? How do I feel proud of my accomplishments? I just don't know.

The reason I vanished 6 months ago
Posted 4 years agoSo I got burnt out on art early this year and wanted to work on some other projects. This wouldn't have been a big deal, except that some time in May I developed severe back pain. I have no idea what happened or why. As far as I can tell it was basically "Jerma Disease" - just mysterious pain that prevented me from doing anything.
After about 2 months I realised it wasn't going away on its own, and when you can't sleep from the pain and even breathing is agony, everything seems hopeless and depressing, and consequently I didn't even want to do anything or talk to anyone, even if I could. Getting a doctors appointment was a nightmare, and it's only recently that I've managed to get to any kind of physiotherapy but, finally, after a bunch of failed rehab regimes, my back is now starting to improve to the point where I can draw again.
I'm not really back yet, but I am getting back, hopefully.

Posted 5 years agoHappy Chrimas etc. woo boy time sure has... passed? maybe? I can't tell any more. Since my last update I've done... pretty much nothing. I was looking at those 2020 summary of art memes and realised I haven't really drawn anything since March, or talked to anyone, or done anything at all, really... but hey I'm sure next year will be better haha *nervously looks back at the last 2 decades getting steadily worse* But for real I hope you are all keeping safe and happy
I did hit 250 watchers though, I guess that's a milestone? I'll maybe do another art raffle again at some point (hopefully not 6 months later like last time) and maybe this time I'll use a random system that actually makes sense and doesn't take ages to work through!

I noticed today is also my 7 year anniversary on FA. I have no idea what I was doing at 5am on Christmas day that made me register an account, but I don't think it was anything good. Even though it took a long time to actually muster the confidence to even fav art, let alone post it myself, I think it's had a positive effect on my life, I've met all sorts of new people, and basically I'm trying to say thanks to you all uwu

Maybe we'll do another some time (at 200 watchers perhaps? halfway there)! ngl I wanted to draw everyone's chars but i would die i've already agreed to do so much stuff this month lmao
Things learnt from this raffle: the numbers thing doesn't work if there's not enough entries lmao. If I do another, next time I'll try just assigning a number based on the reply order and roll on that. It's all random so it won't be first come first serve, although the numbers might be a pretty good way of making people read the rules, so maybe I don't need the owo face proof idk!!

One week from now, probably just before midnight on December 15th, I will use random.org to choose one "lucky" watcher to receive that oh-so coveted prize of free art!

If your character is fairly simple, you might get more detailed shading, and conversely if your character has like, really intense rainbow markings everywhere then they'll probably be cell-shaded.
If you win, I'll note you (or DM you on discord if you want, let me know in your entry comment. I don't use Telegram, unfortunately) about poses and such. There's no strict rules about what I will and won't draw (just because I don't want to write out a huge list of things just for this lol) but assume the picture will be SFW and fetish light for now (ie. if your character is fat I'll draw them fat, but not being force-fed with a hose). We can discuss things, but please keep this in mind when you enter!!!

Posted 6 years agoIf you're watching me on twitter (why???) you may have seen that I passed my viva a couple days ago! Now I can officially put "Dr." on all my bank statements as I watch my student debt increase :')
ANYWAY now that I have a tiny bit more free time I'm actually gonna try and do that raffle to celebrate! (celebrate by doing work!) I know I said I'd do a raffle for 100 watchers like 6 months ago but for real this time I promise I'll do it. Probably. Maybe. 160 watchers is basically 100 right.

Posted 6 years agoBeen a bit more than a year since I uploaded my first pic and I made it to 100 watchers! thanks for all the support and for liking my stuff enough to watch even though I'm so so bad at replying uwu <3. I might hold a little raffle for watchers so keep an eye on this space!
Since it's been a while here's some updates:
It's been very up and down over the past year. I started uploading stuff mainly as a way of overcoming what I thought was just a bit of shyness and social anxiety. Unfortunately that plan didn't work out, to put it lightly... the problem was much deeper than I thought. I'm now dealing with these issues in what I hope will be a more productive way, so things are looking up!
As for the art, I feel like I've massively improved over the last year, and hopefully it shows :3!

Posted 7 years agoWork has now officially ended! Unofficially I still have a bit of stuff to do next week, but I now hopefully have time to actually do stuff/draw regularly again!
The last thing left to do is tomorrow there's a conference I have to go talk at (I'm literally the first one on at like 9am >w<). That'll take pretty much all day, but afterwards I was thinking of going to the Londonfurs winter party since it's basically 5 mins away, probably at like 6:30 or 7. I know the probability that anyone reading this is going, knows anyone going, or cares at all is literally 0% but I guess it's worth a shot! Since this'll be my first ever "furry event" (if I actually get there in a timely fashion and don't chicken out at the last minute lol) I will probably spend my time standing in a corner avoiding eye contact. Baby steps tho...

Posted 7 years agoFor the, like, 4 people who'll actually read this: you may have noticed that, despite being on FA for a while now, I only really started uploading things in the last few weeks. This is because, until recently, I had basically zero internet presence, no social media, never said anything, watched youtube videos without liking commenting or subscribing and so on.
As such, I know basically no-one on or off this website. To help solve this problem, I've created a Twitter account (edit: and Discord). There's nothing there at the moment, because I have literally no idea what to do with it or how to use it, so feel free to talk to me about literally anything.
I know that, personally, whenever I see something like "follow me on twitter! talk to me on Discord!!! You can say anything!!!!" I instantly think "I don't know what to say. Guess I'll do nothing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯'.
Don't be like me.
I'm extremely bad at taking the initiative and talking to people first. So if it seems like I don't want to talk, I actually do but I have no idea what to say. So please talk to me about anything. Art, music, video games, teaching, that one time I found a guitar in my attic and learned to play it upside down by accident, my fursona (for some reason?), your fursona, spamming the thinking emoji, or even my incredibly specific knowledge of art literature and philosophy circa 1890-1940. Unless its really personal I will definitely respond, follow you back etc.
If you want to talk to me on some other platform, or think I should be on it, definitely tell me, since I don't actually know what people use.
On a similar note, I have Steam and Battlenet
