Posted 18 years ago***Boys to Furz 4***
Well Just finished the first Editing pass and things are looking much better after the feedback I'd gotten from my sources. Very pleased and I've managed to clean up the Tie-in with A Pups Wish is Granted so it flows/overlaps even better.
***Boys to Furz 4***
***General***
I've got two stories now in progress and one of them will be ready for posting in January but I don't know which one will be finished first.
One thing I'll be doing at the beginning of December is removing the drafts from the scraps folder. So anyone who wants to grab em better do so because they'll be gone in a couple of weeks.
***General***
A Repeat: I will no longer post drafts of WIP stories as I don't want folks asking why I didn't go a different direction. Saw how much grief that caused on a friends site when he did it and I don't need it.
Not that I don't want feedback, just that I don't need folks bothering me about directions I considered dead ends or useless for my story and remember it is my story. So what you'll see after the new year will be the finished version from now on.

Sick
Posted 18 years agoCouldn't dodge fast nuff and flu caught me last night. It's been running round the campus last couple weeks and as usual, I've got it. getting to the point that I need to simply stay away from school during the winter as I always catch what ever bug is running around this time a year.
did make progress on chapter 4 as got a pretty decent effort written though it happens later in the chapter. It's done and I'm looking at changin things a bit and going with this idea's structure. Feels better for the wrap up that chapter 4 supposed to be.

What is Art
Posted 18 years agoWas reminded about an incident during my summer volunteer sessions as the local library pre-school arts-craft classes.
We had the kids doing a simple abstract method: pour various colors onto the paper and fold in half, smooth it out with your hand
Creates very interesting blotchs that can represent almost anything a child sees and one boy (5) excitedly came up to me saying he saw a a dinosaur or something in his picture. Truthfully I didn't see it but instead of disagreeing with him asked what else do you see? and like the other volunteers said, it was as though I light went off before he run off to think about it.
I found out later that he supposedly had several problems, hyperactivity being the biggest one and yet I distracted him from a tantrum before it even started.
Well that boy reminded me of 2nd grade when we did the same thing but instead of being distracted, the teacher (Sub) disagreed with me, so I threw the tantrum he would have. That was over 30 years ago and yet I still remember it almost as clearly today as the day afterwards.
That was when I learned the most important thing about art. It's personal to the artitst. Our vision, feelings and emotions get wrapped up in what we create and although you can be taught techniques that may allow you to achieve the effect/look that you want, that is all anyone can do for an artist. Otherwise it's no longer art and becomes impersonal and mechanical, loosing the heart and soul of the artist and to me that's the greatest pity of all, loosing the heart and soul from our art.

Plague-Boys to Furz Updates
Posted 18 years agoChapter 2 is now finished and Chapter 3 has hit final editing stage a week early while A Pups Wish is Granted has shockingly gotten a few favs. Thank You
This is important
I am going to take a break after Chapter 3 is completed as planned. I may add some artwork, if I can get it scanned in the next week (Large Format Scanner at local office supply store) along with a couple of new sketches or drawings depending on what gets done.
UPDATE Nov 12, 2007
Chapter 3 is completed and Posted
Update Nov 13, 2007
Okay, I'm working on wrapping the first story up in Chapter 4 and there maybe a little overlap with Pups Wish at the end though everything else will be covered before that, such as What bath did it take place in. Dawnslights assistant (where's the classroom). Minor things that I have to tie together. Main issue I'm still working on is the Overlap since any would have to take place after that.

Someone help me up Please??
Posted 18 years agoFell over in shock at the response to A Pups Wish Granted. several favs of it and it's not even be up more then a day.
Wow. Thank you all.
One of the toughest things to do well, is show a childs innocent exploration as Bobby does and then to have his sister take things in hand (no pun intended) and point out to him what bits are what.
The ending is important as this is actually the 2nd story of the Plague Series and yes I'm still working on Boys to Furz. It's just being a real PITA today on editing and going very slowly but it's going and since I'm now back on my feet, I'll get back to editing it.

A Pups Wish Granted - Rewrite Posted
Posted 18 years agoHear Ye: Hear Ye:
Well I certainly had fun writing this one since it's more humurous then serious. A little yiff, some fun and games, tickling toes and a surprise ending.
Now I've spell checked it and it shouldn't turn you into a toad or salamander but no guarantees.

Need a bigger scanner
Posted 18 years agoI hate the fact that it's almost impossible to find large format scanners and the few that I can find are so expensive I may as well take my artwork into the local office store for scanning as they've got the large scanners needed.
The big issue is I don't usually work on smaller paper although I have in my small sketch books. My preferred size sketchbook is legal sized (14x11) and even finding a legal sized flatbed scanner is almost impossible as all the others are sheet fed. Even my current flatbed can do legal but the paper has to be flexible enough to be sheet fed, otherwise the bed is only letter size. Yet the dang thing is actually legal size because of the sheet feeder, so why no simply give me the ability to use the entire bed?
I'm hoping to take enough artwork in for large scanner use that can then be placed onto either a Flash Drive or burned to CD if needed as I have no idea how high a resolution their scanners are capable of. Want 300 DPI in 32bit color and saved as BMP/Tiff format and I'll convert them to an appropriate size/format to put em in my folder.
