The NJSPCA Return!
General | Posted 12 years agoWe're happy to announce the NJSPCA will once again be rejoining FAU as our convention charity. For the 5th year in a row, the men and women of the NJSPCA will be at the convention, helping raise awareness against animal cruelty. In return, we're raising money for them (and the lil' critters they help protect), and we're coming up with ideas to try and outdo last year's record donations! Per attendee, we were one of the most profitable cons for a charity in the entire fandom! And we're hoping to blow away last year's donations, and meet (and exceed) the $10K mark!
It's a big job, but we're willing to step up to the plate.
And even better news: for those FAU vets who are familiar with the NJSPCA we're happy to report Corporal Michelle has won her battle against cancer! <3 Great job, Michelle!
We'll get the website updated this weekend to reflect the NJSPCA's return.

May 14 Update
1) Hanover Marriott Room Block Extended
2) Events, new Guest of Honor and More!
3) The Dealer's Den Expanded
4) Looking for Panelists
The FAU staff are checking in with May’s newsletter. We’re knee-deep in prep, and we’re hammering out the final details.
Don’t forget to pre-register for FAU6! Pre-registration closes August 1st!
http://www.faunited.org/register.html
1) Hanover Marriott Room Block Extended
We’ve recently received word that the Hanover Marriott sold out of Thursday and Sunday night room blocks, making it hard for some people to reserve their rooms for the con. Never fret! We’ve taken the issue up with the hotel and added more room nights across the board!
Haven’t reserved your room yet? Act quick, rooms are filling up fast. Reserve your room today by clicking here:
http://www.faunited.org/hotel.html
2) Events, new Guest of Honor and More!
Unfortunately, due to life events Fossil is no longer able to make the convention. We’ve saved a spot for him next semester at FAU7!. Stepping up in Fossil’s place is renown artist Strype! Hailing from far, far away in a land known only as “Canadialand”, Strype is an artist known for richly detailed scenes and life-like mecha, armor and cybernetics. He will be joining Miss Mab as one this year’s fantastic Guests of Honor and will be hosting panels on art, lighting techniques and design.
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/strype
Not only that, but this year we have a number of events we’re really excited about. We’ve invited a real-life rocket scientist (Codename: Laz) to come out, will be hosting a poker tournament (where all proceeds go to charity), plus our annual auction, live music and entertainment, DJs and much, much more!
Also returning this year is the band Look Left. They will be performing live during cocktail hour! They’ve got a new album out and they’re sounding better than ever. Don’t miss it!
3) The Dealer's Den Expanded
We’ve rejiggered the Dealer’s Den, and managed to squeeze in half a dozen piping hot, oven fresh new tables. If you’re looking for a table for FAU 6 you’d better act quick and get ‘em while they’re hot! Head on over to the Dealer’s Registration page to reserve your space.
http://www.faunited.org/dealer.html
The FAU 6 Dealer’s Den. Always fresh, never frozen.
4) Looking for Panelists
FA United is looking for talented and creative people to host panels at the convention! Have a topic you’re passionate about, an art style or technique you wish to share or just a general interest you want to share with others? Sign up to host a panel about it! Your panel can be about anything, from arts and crafts, to music and technology, even ponies or unicorns (or the deathrays that can take them out!). Panels of all sizes are accepted, including panels catering to mature audiences (18+).
http://www.faunited.org/panel.html
The sooner you get your panel in, the better shot you have at getting the time slot you want! The deadline for all panels to be submitted or any changes to be made to existing panels is Monday, July 1st, 2013. So get yours in now!

FAU 6 Dealer's Den Updated!

Just a quick note that we've added a list of all confirmed dealer's for FAU 6! We should have a more formal news letter posted sometime within the next week or two, as we've got some big surprises in store (such as a guest speaker from NASA!).
Stay in tune!

We Had a Great Time!
General | Posted 13 years agoThanks to everyone who came by FAU5. We had a blast, and with 629 attendees, were able to raise over $8,000 for our charity! That's an amazing number for such a small con. We're not wasting time though, and already planning for FAU6.
We're taking feedback for what we can do better! Moving to a new hotel can sometimes be a bit disorientating, but we've already got a huge list of ideas of things we can do to make the entire con better. Namely improving registration, working to get more panelists and events, improvements to the Dealer's Den (and Artist's Alley) and other improvements. We're always open for ideas and suggestions!
That said, we're seeing overwhelming support from you over the journals! We're glad to hear so many of you had a fantastic time!

The Hanover Marriott. Better in EVERY Way!
General | Posted 14 years agoWe've moved to a new hotel, and we're working on improving everything from the ground up. So let's start by talking about the new hotel, the Hanover Marriott.
What's better?
Simply put: everything.
The hotel was designed with natural lighting mind, so it never feels claustrophobic and always shines. Open. Clean. Accessible. The layout is simple, easy to navigate, with efficient high speed elevators and plenty of places for impromptu get togethers. The hotel is local to dozens of restaurants and shopping, and is a relatively short drive away from New York City (for the sight-seeing inclined!).
Let's Talk Con Space
The Hanover Marriott has more than TRIPLE the convention space of the ol' Hotel ML. That means no more crowded rooms, a bigger Dealer's Den and far, far more dedicated space for events. It gives us the ability to plan bigger panels, and spread them out over more rooms.
If we ever wanted one thing: more con space. Now we've got it, and in droves!
The Auld Shebeen
An Irish pub found within the Marriott, the Auld Shebeen is an amazing lil' gem. Let's be honest: most hotel restaurants? Not so great. The Auld Shebeen is one of the exceptions. Constructed of hundreds year old reclaimed wood and stonework imported from Ireland, the Auld Shebeen is rich with atmosphere, tasty food and beverages that won't at a fair price. The food is astounding, and the service exceptional.
A Better Headless Lounge & Fursuit Space
Last year's Headless lounge was disappointing. We realized we could have done better, should have done better... so we are! The new Headless Longe has four separate individual air conditioners, multiple fans and built in water stations with FILTERED water!
Quite a step up. We want to ensure suiters feel welcome at the con. The hotel space is vastly larger, ensuring there's TONS more space for you to run around and play!
A Wine Bar
In addition to the regular cocktails we feature at FAU, the Hanover Marriott features a wine bar (found in the lobby) with 20 different wines available on tap. The wine is controlled via the hotel, and attendees can purchase a card from the front desk to access the various wines. Wine is rotated daily to ensure freshness.
We encourage all attendees to drink responsibly.
The Rooms
The Hanover Marriott put in over $20,000,000 in renovations just two years ago, and it shows. All the rooms have been renovated with new beds, furniture, fixtures and more. All rooms have LCD HDTVs (and "jack packs" that allow every connection to the TV from HDMI, S-Video and more). The rooms have nearly every TV connection imaginable. Want to hook up your Xbox? Laptop/Computer? You're covered.
There's more, too... but that's for a later post!

Reminder - Bring charity auction items to FAU!
General | Posted 14 years agoThe apocalypse is nearly upon us! Can you believe FAU4 is just a few days away?
This is just a friendly reminder that we're looking for gifts from our attendees that we can auction off to benefit our charity. 100% of the money raised at the auction goes to the NJSPCA.
Drinks will be available during the auction preview in the ballroom Saturday evening at 7, and followed by the auction itself at 8, hosted by Matthew Ebel.
For information please visit http://faunited.org/auction.html
Thank you, and see you all this weekend!

FAU Charity Auction Info
General | Posted 14 years agoFA United and Vault 73 are proud to announce we're hosting an open charity auction at this year's convention!
The auction is an event held Saturday evening and hosted by musical guest Matthew Ebel. We will be offering donated items and products to bidders to raise money for our charity, the NJSPCA. In the past, we've raised nearly $6,000 for our various charities, and this year we plan to raise the bar even higher!
If you are interested in donating to FA United's charity please drop off your items with Registration. Anything that is appropriate for all ages will be accepted - art, toys, memorabilia, tchotchkes, what have you! Our registration staffers will be happy to accept your generous donations so we can raise money for the honorable members of the NJSPCA.
If you have any questions about donations or the charity auction send an email to skippyfox at skippy@sk1p.com.
We look forward to seeing you at FAU4, and hope you can extend your generosity for such a noble cause.

http://www.faunited.org/conadmin.cgi
--===THE SITE===--
We've added much more information to the site, and revised the hotel page with newly updated information from the Hotel ML (formerly the Mt. Laurel Marriott). If you don't have a room yet be sure to act fast, as we're running low on space.
http://www.faunited.org/
--===REFER A FRIEND===--
Refer five friends, and get an automatic sponsorship upgrade! You help promote us, and we'll promote you! If you reg as regular attendee you get a bump to sponsor, or from sponsor to supersponsor.
--===THE ZOO===--
We've relocated our Zoo this year to give attendees more breathing room. More space to stretch out, talk and be social. Conventions are a social experience, and we want to make sure yours is one of the best!
--===GAMES===--
Our game room is back, and better than ever. We'll be continuing our traditions of multiple game tournaments, and even host Popcap tournaments - Peggle, Plants -vs- Zombies and more!
In addition, we've listened to feedback and added a separate room for table top and card gaming!
--===FURSUITING===--
We've listened to feedback, and taken further steps to improve our Headless Lounge! The lounge now has three times the space, multiple air conditioners, refreshments and fans with more emphasis on keeping you cool so you can stay in suit longer.
--===PANELS AND EVENTS===--
Good news! We already have more events lined up for FAU4 than we did last year, and we're still adding panels as we go. But we're still on the look out for talented, creative individuals to host panel events with us.
If you're interesting in hosting a panel or a meet at the con let us know, and be sure to check out our events page. A tentative outline will be posted to the site four weeks before the con.
