Aggretsuko END-CREDITS SCENE!
Posted 4 years agoI just finished the latest season of Aggretsuko and surprisingly there was an end-credits scene??? I didn't expect it, considering they don't do end-credits scenes. Nothing big, though the promise of her returning in season 5 was nice.
You COULD call it a mid-credits scene, since the credits were still rolling, but it ended at the same time as the credits. At the very least, it's not an after-credits scene.

Vaporeon in Detective Pikachu 2(clickbait title)
Posted 4 years agoHey guys, what do you think? Will Vaporeon be in the sequel(or TV show, whatever happens), or will The Pokemon Company say "Oh, HELL no!" on giving fans a realistic Vaporeon after that "compatible" meme?

FINALLY watched Digimon!
Posted 4 years agoI’ve heard for 20 years that the Digimon show is better than Pokémon, and today I finally watched the first two episodes…
Meh.
It felt more derivative than I expected and the characters were shallow. It's your typical cast of personality types thrown in to an unfamiliar situation, with all the animal companions having the same personality. I’m sure someone would tell me to just keep watching, and it probably will get interesting, but I’m just not interested. I really haven't known much about Digimon, and if you showed me one I'd think it's a Pokemon. I at least have a little bit of knowledge about them now.
SO THEN I WATCHED THE FIRST TWO EPISODES OF POKEMON...
Wow. Night and day difference. Just comparing the first two episodes, Pokemon blows Digimon out of the water. I actually never watched the first two episodes before, I only caught various episodes as they played on TV after it was already popular. The opening theme is engaging, the world is fleshed out right from the start(Digimon has only showed a forest), it's funny, and the story gets moving. I'd add in that I immediately cared about the characters and that they're more memorable, but that just comes with knowing about them for 25 years.
Also Team Rocket is awesome.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX
Posted 4 years agoPlayed the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX demo today and I'm enjoying it more than Pokemon Sword and Let's Go Eevee. I really like the style and so far it's less repetitive than the other Pokemon games.
I named my rescue team "To Serve Mon"😄 👽
Meanwhile, Charmander is burning bridges early in the game: https://twitter.com/ferretwilliams/.....71747715493892
It's tempting to buy it, but at $59.99, I have too many other games that haven't been played yet.

Chipwrecked is the best Chipmunks movie
Posted 5 years agoI finally watched Chipwrecked and it was a very fun movie! I hadn’t seen it because it got such horrible reviews, but I’ve enjoyed other low-rated films too(Kung Pow), so I really can’t trust reviews to match my tastes.
The first two Chipmunks movies were origin stories(2 in a row?), and origin stories aren’t always necessary. The first 2 movies were good, sure, but this is the one where all that is out of the way and they can focus on the characters. I really don’t care how they came to know Dave. I just want to see the Chipmunks being the Chipmunks. Throw a situation at a character and see how they react. None of the reviewers would say this, but Chipwrecked made them stronger characters.
And yes, the references were absolutely dated and I could see the Castaway reference a mile away.
Simon: In fact, we were a mile and a HALF away. Although most people saw it when we were ten nautical miles from it, so don’t be so proud.

Finished Beastars! OMG!
Posted 5 years agoSo yeah, Animal Crossing took all my entertainment time from March 24 through today, leaving me with only 4 episodes of Beastars watched until I decided to watch "just a couple" episodes tonight and couldn't stahp! That is such an interesting anime, and the art is amazing. Definitely like "If Zootopia had taken the predator/prey theme further, and had sex", but also more intellectually satisfying. Eager for the next season. Curious about that one character that has a different name depending on the dub or subtitle(LOL, I hope that's vague enough to not be a spoiler).
Enjoying Beastars
Posted 5 years agoThe English dub of Beastars is on Netflix, and my first impression was, “This is extremely geared toward furries”. It’s interesting, the cel-shaded 3D is excellent, and the intro is great, though I wasn’t sure just yet. Then I watched the fourth episode. I was enthralled. I haven’t watched past that yet, but the episode synopses for later episodes make me eager to see what happens.
Futurism: Cooktops
Posted 7 years agoA passing thought on the technology of my Tarnation comic, which is set over 100 years in the future:
I had recently been considering what a cooktop would be like in the comic, likely millimeters thick and using "pixels" of heat so you can have full flexibility of pan size and arrangement of pans... but thanks to all the Instant Pot sales going on today, I realized that stovetops will actually be obsolete by then, as heating elements will eventually just be built into all pots and pans, possibly with that "pixel" technology for different heat levels within the skillet, especially once wireless energy and long-life batteries make power cords obsolete. This will allow cooking on any surface. We already have electric skillets and electric griddles today, too. Might still need a range hood, though I could see air purifiers being built into lids at that point too.
I don't see ovens going obsolete, though.
Anybody know of a good resource of future predictions? I want to avoid missing obvious things in the comic. I've already shown a cooktop in Kenny's cabin/apartment, not anticipating this realisation.

Sandra And WOO Kickstarter!
Posted 7 years agoThe racoony comedy comic "Sandra and Woo" has launched a Kickstarter for its 10th anniversary book! This is a huge anthology of all of the comics. Dare I compare it to my copy of the Calvin & Hobbes 10 year anniversary book? If you like Sandra and Woo, check out the Kickstarter! Just curious about the comic? Go to http://www.SandraAndWoo.com !
In addition, there will be an art book featuring art by over 50 artists... which includes me! That's right, I actually get a cut of the profits. Even more reason to buy the books!

Stop missing update days, Garrett!
Posted 7 years agoI hate to miss another update day, but I suppose a fire in the kitchen is a good excuse this time. Wow, that smoke spreads to everything. Everybody's okay, but that stove is a goner, as well as everything on the counter(goodbye, peanut butter).
Also had to get other things done on top of that.

Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

I'm watching this freaky animation right before bed, so Tuffy will likely haunt my dreams. I'm so mesmerized by it. They actually did the scene justice with a tiny mouse performing Gene Wilder's lines.

I am such a furry...
Posted 8 years ago...I made a Lion King reference in a work email just now.
Okay, I really just made the subject line "Morning report", which is more a reference to the musical or DVD release of the movie(they added a song called "Morning report"), and the theatrical/VHS release did include A morning report, and simply "morning report" is vague enough to not be a reference... it's really the intent of the reference that makes it such a furry thing to do. Gah, just writing this journal makes it even more a furry thing to do.
Our work emails also include Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Star Trek references pretty often. "Make it so" has indeed been the body of an email. So has a Cyberman saying "DELETE!".

Six Months of Doctor Who (followup)
Posted 9 years agoI HAVE JUST FINISHED WATCHING EVERY SINGLE EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO MADE THIS CENTURY!!!
It took 6 months. I started on May 6th, 2016 and finished yesterday, November 13th. I can call myself a geek once again, until you find out what else I haven't watched. I've long suspected I'd be a big Doctor Who fan. I could have even passed as a Whovian before watching any episodes with all the info I absorbed since 2005. I'm not sure I knew of it before it came back that year(previous episode was in 1989 w/ a movie in 1996). When I realized that my Amazon Prime subscription gets me ALL of this century's Doctor Who episodes for free(with Prime subscription, and season 9 wasn't free until about the time I got to it), I knew I had no excuse to have not watched it. I really got my money's worth with my Amazon Prime subscription this year.
I'm really glad I chose this year to binge-watch it, because there are no episodes between Christmas 2015 and Christmas 2016. Spoilers tend to trend while the show is active("I wear fezzes now"), and I'd feel really bad that I can't watch the episode everybody's talking about. Of course, catching up sooner would've been better. I tried to watch one a day, but I occasionally had to take a break either to prevent burnout or to get stuff done. I feel like I went through each Doctor's stories too quickly. It feels like David Tennant was the Doctor for just a couple months when in fact it was 3 seasons & some specials that went from 2005-2010.
Now I have no more spoilers to watch out for, and no questions that anybody can answer about future episodes. I am at the same point in the series as every other Whovian with the exception of the classic series that went from 1963-1989, and the 1996 movie. I've seen lots of info & video clips from the classic series and the movie(and I watched the entire Weakest Link episode they were on before I even knew who Rose was). I'll definitely watch classic episodes in the future, but I have no intention of binge-watching them. 26 seasons is too much to ask of anybody. Today I'll be watching The Power Of The Daleks in the theater. I should probably watch An Unearthly Child before any other classic episode, being the absolute first episode, but when there's an event with lots of other Doctor Who fans that involves a lost episode that they recently recreated with animation, I have to go to that. My original deadline for finishing was Christmas, which pushed me considerably, but I decided that today would be a better deadline because these fans WILL be talking about the episode I just watched yesterday. I was already on track to finish in time, but it gave me an extra push.
The entire time, I was live-tweeting my experience. Looking back at the tweets, I already don't remember what I was talking about in some of them, so I now know what some people were thinking as they read them. I'm sure it was a fun recap for some people to see these episodes through the eyes of a new watcher again.
Relive my journey through 9 seasons of Doctor Who via my tweets by clicking here!
There are a few tweets from before I started the binge-watch, and I think it's really interesting to see what I was saying about the show before I even watched one episode(not many pre-2016 Doctor Who tweets). I recommend holding down the End key on your keyboard to go straight to the bottom(or flip madly on your touchscreen device). Start from the very beginning.
Comic news:
You know you were wondering. The comics will return next year. No exact date until I get a full month's buffer. My mom has recovered from her stroke enough that I feel confident that I can maintain an update schedule again. I have too many comic ideas waiting to be drawn.

I just realized something about fursuit makers
Posted 9 years ago...you probably get a lot of requests for "strategically-placed holes". I actually hadn't thought about that until now, and I've been in the furry community since the early 2000's. If I had gone into business as a fursuit-maker, I would really have been caught off-guard with such a request and wondered how other fursuit makers handle that request. Do most just accept the request like it was just another body part, considering it is? Or, is it like clean artists, in that many refuse to design a suit for sexual purposes?
I don't care what people do in private, so I figure I would just go with the request... after I Google how to design a SPH, because if there's one thing asexual ferrets don't have, it's "strategy".

Live-tweeting Dr. Who
Posted 9 years agoUntil this year, I had never seen a single episode of Dr. Who. Oh, I knew plenty about the show, enough that I could even pass as a Whovian, but never actually saw a single episode. That changed this year. I'm now on season 4 of the new series(started 2005) and fully intend to be caught up before the next new episode, which will be on Christmas. No regular episodes in 2016 makes for a very good catching-up year. Today I watched 7 episodes! Is it wrong to have a Dr. Who marathon on Independence Day?
I'm live-tweeting nearly every episode I watch, as well! Typically one tweet per episode. If you want to follow along with my discovery of Dr. Who, maybe relive the wonder of seeing the early episodes for the first time, you can follow me at https://twitter.com/ferretwilliams
There will rarely be spoilers, but if you intend to watch Dr. Who for the first time, you might see spoilers. If you want to spend the next 3-6 months watching Dr. Who, it's available on Amazon Prime for free(except the latest season, which costs money), and I think Netflix has it as well. The 2005 series was an excellent place to start, even if it's a weaker season, because there was a 15 year hiatus before that, not counting the lackluster(so I hear) 1996 movie. As a result, they don't expect you to have watched the entire 1963-1989 classic show. I have no intention of watching all of classic Dr. Who because that's such a huge task. Catching up from 2005 is easy compared to that. I will watch some classic episodes eventually, though.
Quick tip for anybody not caught up: DON'T... GOOGLE... ANYTHING. Not only will everything be from a current-day perspective(you might see that dead character again), but spoilers travel back in time with this show. I made the mistake of Googling the graffiti on the TARDIS, thinking it was a behind-the-scenes reference. "NOPE!" is all I'll say on that.
PLEASE WITHHOLD ANY SPOILERS! Even if you think what you are saying has been revealed, it might not be. I'm having a hard time avoiding spoilers as-is. I've known fezzes are cool for a while now. Still haven't seen any Matt Smith episodes yet.

Zootopia: third time's a charm?
Posted 9 years agoI had pre-ordered the Zootopia Blu-Ray on Amazon and finally watched it tonight, after having seen it in the theater twice.
The first watching, in the theater, I enjoyed it but was mildly annoyed by how the "stereotypes are bad, m'kay?" message was shoved in my face. It's like being scolded for smoking when you don't smoke and already know that it's bad.
The second watching, also in theater, I was unexpectedly more annoyed at the heavyhanded message.
This third time... much better. I wasn't annoyed at all by it, although I still rolled my eyes at the "A bunny can call another bunny cute, but when someone else does it...". That line slows down the scene, and SHE'S CUTE, DAMNIT! I also like Clawhauser even better. He's just so cheerful! Oh, can I call a cheetah cheerful?
I had watched the DMV scene several times on YouTube before watching the movie, and I have no idea when that scene will get old. I still laugh every time at Flash's slo-mo smile. They timed that entire scene so perfectly!
I then watched the special features, which were all worth watching. I had watched a couple of deleted scenes on YouTube before the disc was released, but really wanted to wait to see them on Blu-ray so my experience won't be ruined. I'm glad I limited my deleted scenes viewing, because the YouTube versions didn't have director commentary beforehand. I'd want to watch those anyway, so mixing already-watched with not-watched parts wouldn't be as great an experience. That taming party scene was sad.
...And then I watched it in French. Well, parts. I like to hear how they sound and how many signs were translated. A fair amount of signs were changed to French, but Zootopia has way too many signs for them to get even half of them translated. If you're not familiar with Disney's translations, the signs in their 3D animated films actually look like they were originally in the target language. I first noticed this in Toy Story 3 when unexpectedly a button was labeled in French. I have a gallery of translations from Wreck-It Ralph as well.
Will I create a gallery of translations from Zootopia? Maybe. I really want to, especially since I can play Blu-rays on my computer now, making for perfect screenshots.
I also heard Judy say "Allons-y" in the French version, btw. That was definitely fun for a Whovian like me to hear, even if it's a pretty common French word. Also, Clawhauser didn't sound flamboyant enough, and I don't think the French crew got the memo that Finnick has to have a really deep voice. It was a little deep, probably got the gag across well enough, but the English voice was so deep that even though I was expecting deep, I was still surprised at how deep his voice was.
I'll eventually watch the Spanish version as well. I know more Spanish than French, anyway.

Where to find me? Pth, like I'm posting. Also Dr. Who
Posted 9 years agoThe recent password reset didn't fare quite so well for me, but after 3 days an admin responded to my email about not being able to reset my FA password. Others have had this issue, and I'm sure the admins are swamped with emails like mine. Thankfully I don't depend on this site in any way, so 3 days was not an issue for me. I know it would be for anybody relying on commissions from here, and those people definitely get my sympathies. You could say, "Don't rely on one site", but I know firsthand(through my job) that sometimes all your business comes through one channel no matter how many sites you do business on.
I'm staying where the audience is. Whenever I start my comics again, I will still post to FA and Weasyl. Inkbunny... the people have been good, the site is advanced... but one look at the homepage with no content filters in place(and boy do I have many!) makes it clear that my comics don't fit in with the *ahem* main subject matter of the site.
With all the hubbub of the site being down, I heard about Furry Network for the first time. I decided to check it out, but am not sure yet about it. It's still in beta, so it could be completely different when the comics return.
[UPDATE: https://beta.furrynetwork.com/ferretwilliams/ is my FN profile. I expect traffic there to die down after a few months like Weasyl did. Weasyl profile is https://www.weasyl.com/~ferretwilliams and Inkbunny is https://inkbunny.net/FerretWilliams ]
"When will the comics return?", I hear. My intent is January, but I make no promises. I have to get 8 comics in the buffer(1 month) before I'm comfortable re-launching, and I don't dare re-launch too close to December because I always take that month off from comics(too busy). I've bought Clip Studio Paint(formerly called Manga Studio) and a Surface Pro 4, which I expect to speed up my cartooning. My mom is doing better after her stroke(2.5 years ago), which frees up some time. I hope to release a browser plugin before I re-launch the comic. I'm not saying what the plugin will be because it's just too early. Last time I announced a big programming project(BlendShow), it went nowhere. I still want to work on BlendShow and have a good plan for it, but I'm no longer sure if I'll use it enough myself to properly support it.
Right now the biggest focus of my time is... finally watching Dr. Who. I've heard so much about it over the years that I could fake being a Whovian very well. I know quite a bit without even watching it. I've been very low on geek cred for a while, and Dr. Who is something every geek should at least check out. While I wouldn't say I'm a Dr. Who fan YET, I'll be decorating my office wall to look like the TARDIS next week. I'm watching the season that started in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston, being the first season available for free streaming to Prime members and being a very good place to start due to the long hiatus it came back from. Tonight I watched episode 8, "Father's Day". Such a sad episode. The next episode is where people say it gets good(Captain Jack!), although the Dalek episode was a nice taste of what I'm expecting of the show. Earlier in the season I made the mistake of looking up the graffiti on the TARDIS, expecting a behind-the-scenes reference. I now know that in Dr. Who, spoilers travel back in time and I should not look up ANYTHING that I'm curious about in the show. I will instead ask friends.
I'm really looking forward to watching David Tennant. From what I know, I expect him to be "my Doctor". Once I finish all of the new series, I intend to watch Dr. Who episodes from last century, and with that, I expect Tom Baker to be a worthy rival to that title.
Sheesh, I'm not even through the first season of Star Trek! I've seen random episodes, but I don't know how many episodes I had watched. So far, I know I've watched episodes 1-27 thanks to Amazon Prime's records, and surely some others after that. Wow, those were some long seasons. I used to prefer Captain Picard, but now I'm seeing what people liked so much about Kirk. Maybe when I re-watch TNG, Picard will win back my preference.
Other shows I'd really like to check out after hearing so much about them:
Breaking Bad, not available for free. Might be cheapest to find some used Blu-Rays.
X-Files, free on Amazon Prime. I somehow never watched this cultural phenomenon. I will only watch the episodes people consider "essential", most likely.
I'm so behind on pop culture.

My Zootopia review
Posted 9 years agoZootopia earned its 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Also, the stereoscopic 3D was excellent. The high framerate took away all the annoyances of 3D, and this kind of world demands depth. Or at least it seemed like high framerate. I find no mention of it anywhere, but there was none of the "next scene in right eye, previous scene in left eye" for a single frame like I saw in Guardians of the Galaxy(great movie). It was absolutely comfortable. The 3D also helped emphasize the difference in scale between characters and the scenery.
There are great puns on the billboards in the background, but you probably won't notice them in the theater. The only way I noticed them was from the clips I saw online beforehand. I'll have to buy the Blu-ray so I can see everything. Definitely seeing it a second time in the theater, something I rarely do.
The theme of racism(species-ism?) felt a little thick, I generally don't like to see it even if it's to demonstrate how bad it is, but they do a good job with showing how it hurts everyone. Most of the species have stereotypes limiting them in some way. They balance it with humor very well. I had some big laughs, even in the DMV bit which I had seen several times before online. Anticipation really works for that scene.
And the lemmings. Not a single lemming jumped off a cliff. They were shown as wealthy business rodents. I'm happy to see, of all people, the company that started the myth that lemmings jump off cliffs, portraying them differently. And they like popsicles. I might have to let that inspire a drawing.
I'm disappointed at the lack of ferrets.
As for the 20 minutes of previews beforehand, Jungle Book seemed better than it seemed from the other trailers, but I think it was mostly due to the fully-orchestrated "Bear Necessities" playing in the background. I really like hearing different takes on songs.
The next Ice Age movie... my first and last thought on that trailer was, "ANOTHER one?! Why?" Going into space really seemed like a jump-the-shark moment. Yes, Scrat goes to space, I am not kidding. The humor seemed cheap, and I have no intent of seeing this one. I'm sure I skipped the previous one, but I've lost track.
The Secret Life Of Pets trailer was better than the Ice Age one, but the only scene that remotely makes me feel like watching it is when the poodle rocks out. Besides that great scene, the rest of the trailer was okay.
Angry Birds... meh.
Finding Dory had previously held no interest with me. Now it seems possibly good. Seems like a rehash of the first movie, but with lower stakes.
And then there was some trailer for some movie where some kids are in an unrealistic situation where they go against authority.
None of my trailer reviews are in the order they played, except maybe Jungle Book. I think that one was first.

FAMVU
Posted 10 years agoSo, FurAffinity has been bought by IMVU, a 3D chat company similar to Second Life, if Second Life limited you to tiny rooms that didn't let you move around all that well.
People are scared about this, but I seem to remember people really wanting new management at FA. Well, you kinda got what you wanted. Granted, Dragoneer is still in charge, but IMVU bought FA, so he's not exactly the dungeonmaster anymore.
It's too early to tell how this will go, but I'm definitely interested in seeing how this plays out.
(oh and yes, I'm still alive, just busy with life)

Update on FA situation
Posted 11 years agoUPDATE: "StarryKitten" didn't seem to have much of an adminship. He's reportedly resigned. "Too much drama for not enough pay", or in other words, no pay. Notice I said "reportedly", as it would be hard to prove that he no longer has any access to the site. Even if he's not put back into a "secret admin" position, he had access to the code and could have done anything. As a result, I'm still treating this like a site that could get compromised at any point.
One thing I do believe, though, is that he feels like he got too much drama for his taste. Unfortunately, that sort of thing is what inspired his previous destructions.

Mass-migration to Weasyl, watch me there as well

Oh no, it's time for another mass-migration to Weasyl. I wanted to keep my journal about going to F3 Con this Saturday at the top(I also want to already be asleep), but this migration seems serious.
Watch me at https://www.weasyl.com/~ferretwilliams
In short, Dragoneer has hired a shady hacker with a history of rage-destroying sites he has been trusted with. Two, specifically. He also reportedly spied on users on one of those sites. What... the fuck. Seriously, if the guy wasn't his neighbor and co-worker, I don't believe Dragoneer would have let him anywhere near the site's code.
Today I've changed my FA password and turned my ad-blocker back on for FA as a security measure. I'm also removing it from my check-everyday bookmarks. I now consider it a site that could get compromised without warning. Good thing I don't have private info on this site and everything's backed up.
My stuff's also at https://www.weasyl.com/~ferretwilliams
I am not leaving FA. Yet. First off, I barely use the site, nor any furry sites. No time. So, there wouldn't be much difference. If I do leave the site, I don't expect to delete the account or the gallery. If I leave, it'll be because I don't trust the safety of the site, and that's no reason to remove the comics. I feel like checking back to see how this whole thing develops.

So, want more information about the hullabaloo with this new admin/coder, StarryKitten? There are various sources, including right from the new guy's own comments(in case they get deleted, I did indeed go to the comments directly for verification), but the best roundup of info with sources is right at THIS LINK. Lots of sources. I'm willing to give second chances, but I see multiple chances used up already.

BTW, F3 Con
Posted 11 years agoFYI, I intend to be at F3 Con in Springfield, MO THIS SATURDAY. It goes from Thursday to Sunday, but I have no vacation days at my new job, so one day is all I dare. If you're going, check out my ad in the con book! The theme of this convention is internet memes and I own ICWutUDidThar.com, so I kinda have to contribute some meme-y goodness.
Hopefully I'll be healthy for that. I've been sick for a week now but am taking antibiotics. The only symptoms have been sluggishness and hyperventilating, so it MIGHT not be contagious. If I feel like I shouldn't go, I won't.
