FWA 2015 - Chainmaille Workshop
Posted 10 years agoHi everyone! I know I haven't been super active in here, but I'm still alive and chainmailling!
I'd like to invite everyone to my chainmailling panel! This year in addition to my usual teaching about history and looking at how to get started, there is an optional workshop! For $15 you get everything needed to make your own Japanese diamond pendant! Including pliers! :D If you have your own pliers feel free to bring them and keep the extra pair as a spare set.
I look forward to teaching everyone again! Please spread the word! The workshop is limited to 20 people, and you can purchase your kit through myfwa.com under the con store. :)

Emergency(ish) commissions!
Posted 11 years agoHey folks! Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I find myself behind on a medical bill payment and I could use a little extra money coming in for the season. Therefore, I'm offering a 10% discount on anything! I've got a ring order in the works for tomorrow, so it's a great time to ask for a quote! Any help is appreciated. :) You're all awesome no matter what! <3

Update: Still Not Dead
Posted 12 years agoJust still living with the in-laws. But, we are under contract with a new house. It's better than the one that fell through, but I'm refusing to get excited about it because of how jaded the last one left us.
On the other hand, if this house DOES work out, I'll have plenty of office space for both my photo gear and chainmaille. I'll also have a garage to set up my own cutting/anodizing area. So let's hope that works out.
I'm just hoping those of you who haven't forgotten about me on here will keep Kiza and I in your thoughts, and wish us the best of luck with this house. :) Thank you!

Pre-Made Items
Posted 12 years agoDue to the lack of interest in custom-made items I'm getting, I'm going to start making random items with what colors and materials I have on-hand. I will sell them here, on Etsy and even TopHatter. Commissions are still open, and when this insane house debacle is over I'll buy an ad on FA.
Thank you for those who continue to follow me even though I'm in a bad personal slump right now. <3

Ring Order Day Sale! :D
Posted 12 years agoSince I'm ordering a batch of rings this Thursday, I'm offering 10% off of any custom order placed before then! You have until Thursday at 10am Eastern to note me with an order. I'll invoice you the cost and then be placing the order once I get everyone's payments. :) You may also comment here with any questions or to snag a spot while you think of what you'd like. I'm fine with giving quotes for anything not listed on my price sheet!
I'm not limiting slots right now, so feel free to order multiple pieces. If you have a deadline I need to know ASAP because I'll be moving this month and need lots of warning to prepare.
Thanks guys!

Radio Silence
Posted 12 years agoSorry I've been so quiet ever since FWA folks! I've been mailling still, but Kiza and I are trying to buy a house! Hence being a little busy to be active on here. I promise I am still alive and still VERY much open for commissions. My queue is clear at this point, so if you would like to place any orders, feel free to do so! Sadly it's past the Mother's Day deadline, but I'm happy to do some belated gifts!
Back to the house! We're under contract and just waiting for the bank to do its thing. We've set up appointments for inspections this week, and hopefully they won't find any issues with the house. I'm not going to jynx it by gushing about it here, but I promise I'll post all about it if we get it. :) I'd appreciate any and all positive vibes sent our way!

FWA Report
Posted 12 years agoSo while none of my art show pieces sold this year, I still had a very nice time! After I brought the pieces back to Artist Alley with me (I'm the coordinator), I managed to sell a lady bug and finish up two custom orders for pickup at the con. I also took a collar order. :) Sold a cube, key chain and bracelet also! Yay for sales!
My panel went well, from what I can tell, and hopefully next year I'll have a better camera to do demonstrations with. It's a little tricky to teach dragonscale with my laptop's webcam! xD But I tried! To anyone who attended and still has questions, please feel free to message me here and I'll happily answer them!
Hopefully next year my art show pieces won't be so hidden away. Apparently, some people didn't even realize they were there until I brought them to AA. That's so disappointing. :( But at lot of the Westin staff really loved my stuff! :D Either way, here's to next year! My unsold pieces will be posted online for sale soon. Probably on Etsy, but possibly on here just to avoid their fees. I'm cheap. *cough*
Can't wait to see everyone next year! <3

Birthday! FWA! WOO!
Posted 12 years agoIt's my birthday. You may all pile your gifts to the right, thank you. <3
It's also time for FWA! Kiza and I check into the hotel this afternoon! Can't wait! :D WOO!! *packs all the things!* I'm bringing all the leftover pieces from last year's art show, and a few new ones. Anything that doesn't sell will be listed in my Etsy after con. :)

Last Chance! FWA Feedback/Suggestions!
Posted 12 years agoI'll be hosting my Intro To Chainmaille panel again this year, and I'd REALLY like to know what people are interested in learning. I don't mind if you aren't going to the con, what would you want to learn if you were? :)
I'll be doing about 15-30 minutes of lecture/info about beginner topics like history, tools, supplies, aspect ratio (dear god help me), and whatever else I can think to babble on about. Then we'll have another 10-15 of Q&A, pass around some samples, etc, then move to the hands-on learning, where I teach simple things like European 4-in-1 and Byzantine. Then I'll stick around for any more questions and, if there's interest, a segment of how-tos for more complex weaves, like dragonscale.
Am I missing anything?

Chainmaille Contest Finalist!
Posted 12 years agoHey everyone! My Sweet as Honey set made it into the Featured Weave finals on Blue Buddha Boutique! :D I'm so excited to even just be a finalist among some REALLY cute uses of dragonscale.
If you could please vote for me to help me have even a glimmer of hope in winning, that would be awesome. :) I also won't hold it against you if you vote for some of the other amazing entries! But don't tell me ;-; <3

Ordering some RINGS!
Posted 13 years agoThat's right. I'm not dead. And I'm still doing chainmaille! Just not as much as I had been. Again, I blame my new job. But now that my schedule is more firm, and I know I love doing this, I'm going to keep going. So I'm doing a few ring orders from my suppliers and getting to work on my FWA Art Show projects and some other simple work. This would be a GREAT time to get a custom order in! :) Hint. Hint. <3
Honestly, custom work is my favorite work. I don't enjoy generic creations very much, but I'm going to start making some basic pre-made items at a discounted rate. Look for them soon! I just won't be as likely to custom size or make extreme changes on pre-designed creations, as a warning. :)
So in short, commissions are open! As always! And I love you guys for sticking around!

FWA 2013 Prep - Suggestions?
Posted 13 years agoSo FWA is sneaking up! I'd love to hear some suggestions as to what you all would like to see in my Art Show panel. The theme this year is "Still In Love" and I'd like to match it and maybe try some new weaves.
Also! I have my Chainmaille 101 panel and would love to hear what beginners are interested in learning. :) Ok, gogogo!

Wanna know a secret?
Posted 13 years ago... I photoshop some of the dust/kitty fur off my necklace stand for pictures. BWAHAHAHA yeah.... *cough*
And commissions are open. :) Just sayin.

Apologies for the lack of updates
Posted 13 years agoI've recently been promoted at my day job, opening a brand new store and taking over literally a third of the merchandise. As such, I've been insanely busy for the last month. The GOOD news is now my schedule is more set, I have 7am-4pm shifts from now on. As far as set days, we'll see. This means I've had time to devote to my passion, photography. Photo By MC is officially growing, and I'm already booking sessions. :) The BAD news is, I've had to push chainmaille to the side for a while.
HOWEVER! :D I'm not giving it up. In fact, after the chainmaille panel I attended at Dragon*Con I'm more excited than ever to design jewelry. I have plans to make my own ring cutter so I can work with finer metals at more customized sizes. The panelist answered lots of questions for me, and is happy to answer more so I feel I can continue learning more lovely techniques and better production ideas. :) I'm incredibly happy about my experience with this artist.
So please be patient with me while I get used to my new job and get back to a routine. I have projects in mind and in the works, so I promise more posts soon. Plus, it's time to start working on ideas for next year's FWA art show! :D
I really adore all my followers who have stuck around during my lull. Thank you so much!

Not dead, just dehydrated? July Slots
Posted 13 years agoSooooo... June was a major commission bust. Kinda puts a damper on my drive to maille, but I'll push on! I need to take out an ad on FA. That might help. I'm also going to try making more pre-made things on my Etsy shop, but I honestly feel more satisfaction in doing custom orders. It just feels like I make a better connection with the piece that way.
As for the pre-made stuff on my Etsy shop, I'll probably be running a sale on those soon. They need homes instead of sitting in my finished projects cubby. I still have all five bronze ladybugs for sale, the mini-dragonscale in bronze and green, as well as the absinthe themed charm bracelet. Please head over to my Etsy shop and have a look!
For July I'm going to open new slots, but only five this time. I have many rings in stock for projects already, but if I need to do an order I'll let you know in your quote.

Hallo there Watchers!
Posted 13 years agoChildren's Miracle Network Fundraising!
Posted 13 years agoHi everybody! :D I just wanted to let everyone know that the store I work at is about to start it's yearly six-week fundraising spree for the Children's Miracle Network. Since we're based in Georgia, the funds go directly to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and this year they'll be using the money to open their own Prostethics and Robotics labs.
My store beat EVERY OTHER WALMART in the country last year for fundraising. We beat our goal of $75,000, raising over $83,000. It was pretty awesome. This year? We want to raise $100,000. :D
In order to help, I'll be donating part of my chainmaille sales from May 1st to June 16th to CMN through my store. I am also willing to take any donations you want to send and send them directly in to the donation pool. This is an amazing cause, and if you could see the families this helps I know you'd be even more moved.
If you have any questions about the charity or what the new labs are about, either ask me or check out www.childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/ and www.choa.org
PS: Totally working on that price chart. TOS updated, so please skim those, and note that bracelets have dropped in prices thanks to a better supplier. :)

Rings Ordered, Commissions Very Much Open!
Posted 13 years agoHi everybody. :) I just placed a rather large ring order with C&T Designs (American based and slightly better pricing than Blue Buddha), and I'm excited to see the product. I've heard very good things about this provider from other maillers who've worked with them. Plus, NO CUSTOMS :D However, TRL has some "oops" colors I may have to order >3 The Seafoam is pretty!
As far as commissions go, I'm currently working on revamping my prices and making a visual price chart. I don't have a lot of samples of everything I can make (which is pretty much anything I can get a visual of), so it's a little tricky for me to really grab your attentions. x3 But over time I hope to build up my portfolio for you all. :) Today I'll be updating my website gallery a bit as well.
Other than that.... um.... :D Spring! *goes to frolic*

Absinthe Collection For Sale
Posted 13 years agoYay posting from my iPhone at work!
Just a heads up, the remaining pieces from my FWA2012 Absinthe collection are now available for purchase in my etsy shop. Http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheFetteredFennec I am also open for commissions at this time, now that the con is over.
I was happy with my show results; it was a much needed pick-me-up. I wad beginning to lose faith in my ability to produce desirable jewelry pieces! Thank you to all who visited my table at the art show and even showed interest in my work. :3

FWA Art Show Results
Posted 13 years agoI sold stuff! The Bold 'n' Brilliant byzantine sold, and the Shaggy Scales Necklace sold. :D Everything else will be available for purchase on my Etsy shop by the end of next week (hopefully by Monday to be honest).
I got some fantastic feedback from my chainmaille 101 panel and I was so thrilled to have people there WAITING for it to start. :D I had no idea people were so interested! I hope I helped people learn and be able to get started. If you attended, please feel free to leave me some feedback here so I can be better prepared for next year. :3
